More than a thousand test subjects were involved in the Demon Element experiment. However, Jiang Yi had never seen any of them react the same way Mo Fan was now!
Normally, the transformation would contort their appearance beyond recognition. Even their bones would be twisted by mutation. One time, a test subject even had bones like blades poking out from the flesh all over his body, completely resembling the appearance of a demon beast...
In comparison, the young man before her had retained most of his appearance. That being said, his transformation was way more terrifying than the twisted looks of the other test subjects.
The demonized young man suddenly turned around. His eyes with rapidly changing colors were staring at Jiang Yi.
Jiang Yi stiffened. She could not even move her fingers. She was utterly clueless why she would be overwhelmed with fear and not dare to have the thought of resisting.
"I forgot to mention..." The demonized young man spoke in human's tongue, just that his tone was accompanied by a hint of savagery.
Jiang Yi could not believe what she had just heard. It was the first time a demonized Magician had spoken normally. The transformation was basically the same as humans who had been possessed by parasitic beasts, which would turn them into demon beasts!
Forgot to mention?
Forgot to mention what? Jiang Yi looked at the young man who was so much more extraordinary than the other test subjects. It was like he had turned into a different person due to his demonic appearance.
What is he trying to say? And what did he forget to tell me?
"I don't have just three Elements." Mo Fan's voice was filled with a hint of a sneer, even though he was not actually sneering. She could hear the mocking laughter echoing in her ears.
Jiang Yi was stunned once again. She could not tell if the young man were still the same person as before.

Jiang Yi suddenly realized something. She stared at the Soul Shadow that resembled a werewolf looming over Mo Fan's back with great astonishment.
The shadow...
Where did it come from?
Before Jiang Yi could answer her own question, the demonized young man stooped. He was like a human-shaped bow that was accumulating power!
The ground beneath him cracked open as his body sank down slowly, implying the amount of force he was gathering.
Mo Fan sprang into the air, like an arrow being fired into the sky. He disappeared from before Jiang Yi and her soldiers.
Raising her eyes, she discovered that Mo Fan had landed right onto a signal tower nearby. It was over a hundred meters tall. He had just jumped onto it with pure physical force!
The ground cracked open like a giant spiderweb just from his feet, indicating that his body possessed greater explosive power than a demon beast.
"Doesn't have just three Elements...doesn't have just three Elements..." Jiang Yi murmured with a blank face as she looked into the sky.
A Magician with Double Innate Elements was already considered the perfect candidate for their experiment, but what if the young man had four Elements?

On top of the nest, the enormous Razortail Drake had locked its gaze onto the Heavenly Eagle approaching it.
With a flap of its wings, the Razortail Drake flew from the nest and lunged toward the Heavenly Eagle carrying the giant net. It opened its large mouth, yawning open like a giant cave, planning to swallow the Heavenly Eagle and the humans in the net with a single bite.
It was only treating them as a snack before going back to sleep. It was planning to swallow them and digest them without chewing!
The saliva in its oral cavity was exceedingly sticky. Bai Tingting, Zhao Manyan, Mu Nujiao and Mu Ningxue were swallowed right into its mouth. It was just big enough to contain them. If the Razortail Drake were using its teeth instead, they would be turned into minced meat instantly...
They would soon slide down its tongue into its esophagus. The compression of its stomach wall and the corrosiveness of its gastric acids would result in a horrid death for the students!
Bai Tingting and Mu Nujiao had already shut their eyes. To be fair, even if their eyes were opened, they would see nothing but darkness too...
"Filthy Lizard, spit it out now!" A savage roar shook the place, like a blasting clap of thunder in the clear sky!
A figure encapsulated within a wolf-like shadow on top of a signal tower launched himself toward the enormous beast.
His fist generated an incredible fiction with the air, the fire engulfing it combusting fiercely. As the figure approached the Razortail Drake, a significantly enlarged Fiery Fist was thrown right at the Razortail Drake's neck!
The Razortail Drake, caught in the midst of enjoying its snack, fell backward as its neck received the powerful blow.
It automatically spat out the food it was just about to swallow before its enormous body flew backward and slammed heavily into a hole on the nest...
The burning flames were like a fiery cloud half-dragging Mo Fan into the air.
Mo Fan glared at the hole on the nest which the Razortail Drake had disappeared into, as if he had yet to release all his anger. He raised his leg and kicked down in an arc, firing off a crescent shockwave!
The shockwave swept across the sky at an insane speed, aiming right at the Razortail Drake...
The shockwave was sharp like a powerful slash. It swept past the nest silently and disappeared!
The tip of the nest began to slide downward, revealing a clean cut across its surface. The cone-shaped stony structure dropped from a height of over three hundred meters and slid into the ground in the middle of the city.
Jiang Yi and the soldiers had eyes wide, their jaws dropped.
Did he just knock back the Commander-level Razortail Drake flying with a single punch?!
Did he just fire a crescent-shaped projectile with his leg and cut off the top of the Razortail Drake's nest open?!
Even with the transformation from the Blood Sarira, there was no way he would be granted such terrifying power.
"Four Elements!! He's a magician with four Elements!" A huge wave rose in Jiang Yi's heart.
She finally knew why the demonized Mo Fan could still speak, and why he possessed greater power than the rest of the test subjects. The power granted by the Blood Sarira was directly proportional to the energy it had drawn from the Magician. Since the kid had four Elements, he would be more than four times stronger after the transformation!
He had demonized perfectly!
Only an Intermediate Magician with four Elements would be able to transform perfectly!
His consciousness...
That's right, he was able to retain his self-awareness too. Otherwise, a demonized Magician would only have a strong lust to kill, just like a demon beast. Unlike the test subjects in the past, he was aware of what he wanted to do. He still had control of his mind.
It worked!

He woke up in a familiar world that had vastly changed.

His familiar school had become a mystical school that teaches magic, encouraging everyone to become a mighty magician.

Outside the city, many wandering magical beasts and monsters attacked and preyed on humans.

His world of advanced science changed into one that praised magic. Despite this, his ambition in life, and his social status remained the same; one of the dregs of the society with a struggling father and a disabled step sister that couldn’t walk.

However, Mo Fan found that when most people could only practice a single major element of magic, he was a Versatile Mage!

Though the world around him turned dark after the being had sent him off, he didn't really feel any change other than knowing that he was no longer in his room.

He knew this as he couldn't feel a single thing, it was as if every part of his physical being had been removed and all that was left was his consciousness and thought.

He had been expecting to fall into some sort of sleep and wake up as a newborn in a hospital, still unsure whether or not he had arrived in the other world due to any sort of senses whatsoever.

As unnerving as it was to experience, it also was relaxing in a way as he was able to fully indulge in his thoughts and plans for the future without being distracted by the physical world.

It had only been a few minutes since he had been supposedly transferred and he was still holding up quite well due to everything he was thinking about, about his powers, about his new life and world, and his goals for the future too.

Before he could even start to think of how long this would last before he went insane, a sudden surge of information forth, overwhelming his thoughts.

The information was purely his senses returning to him and them going to work on gathering information from the outside world.

From the feeling of rubber on his small back and head, to the cold air brushing against his sensitive skin, the senses he felt confirmed to him that he had successfully entered the other world called Vanterio.

While his senses assaulted him, he had attempted to move any part of his body and found that he was able to move his limbs, though it was more of a twitch than actual movement.

He was glad that he had been able to do so despite being in a newborn's body, the experience he had gone through was still heavily unnerving despite his excited thoughts and he was glad to be in control again no matter how small the control.

After confirming his minuscule control over his body, he started to focus on the two most important senses he had, his vision and hearing, in order to gain information about his surroundings.

As someone who usually rushes through tutorials of newly released games, in favor of starting the actual adventure, he wanted to get as much of a headstart as possible in his new life, wanting to take every opportunity to do so.

Opening his fresh pair of eyelids was a bit of an ordeal as it felt as if weights were weighing them down, though he did manage eventually.

With his eyes exposed to the world, the first thing he saw was his current location. He was in a pure white room that was filled with an assortment of equipment that he couldn't recognize. Though he wouldn't be able to recognize normal medical equipment anyhow.

Aside from the equipment, there was also an assortment of other items like potted plants, fanciful tables, and other tasteful decoration all along the walls of the room, with a large window off to the side overseeing a marvelous city that just screamed 'science fiction'.

He turned his attention to the occupants, seeing two female nurses in typical looking nurse uniforms not far from him, both of them looking over at him with a small smile.

The one holding him was also a female nurse that looked much older than the first two, with a glint of experience visible in her eyes. She also looked at him with a satisfied smile.

She was blocking his view of the bed which annoyed him a little as he wanted to see the face of his newest family. His wish was granted when a young man appeared at the corner of his eye, who had came from the side of the bed.

The young man looked in his early twenties with messy short lime hair and pale blue eyes, he was quite tall, being even taller than he was in his previous life. He was obviously well built despite the thick clothing that looked like some sort of military uniform.

His features were slightly grizzled but melded in with a sort of bishounen look. Though the aura he gave off was one of a man instead of someone who made teenage girls scream in excitement.

He slowly approached the nurse holding his newborn child as if afraid that he might spook them.

The nurse chuckled lightly seeing this and slowly turned towards the man and mother of the child on the bed.

"Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Lanixer, you are now parents to a healthy baby girl" The nurse happily to the two anticipating parents.

Both parents became relieved and joyful upon hearing so, both becoming eager to see hold their child.

The brand new father stepped up to nurse, with his arms slowly starting to rise as he started to speak. 

"Can I hold her?" He asked with a bit a nervousness present in his tone, and an equal amount of excitement and happiness.

The nurse simply nodded, and carefully passed the newborn over to her new father.

The amount of love the transmigrated newborn could feel radiating off of her new father was beyond anything she had felt in her previous life. 

She had never personally gotten to know her own parents in her previous life as they had been involved in an accident when she was only a baby and had lived with her grandparents until she was eighteen.

Though she knew her grandparents loved her very much, it couldn't be compared to the love a parent would exude upon holding their newborn child.

She decided then and there that she would do her utmost to protect and care for her parents, as well as make them proud of her growth and future achievements.

Her father slowly walked over to the bedside, gently placing her on the bed between him and her new mother.

Her mother had long caramel hair and hazel eyes, with soft features that made her look younger than she actually was, looking like she was only in her late teens.

Her looks could easily surpass most top models on earth, and despite the loose-fitting hospital gown she wore, her physical features could surpass them as well, especially in certain areas of interest.

She was very satisfied that both of her parents were highly attractive, being the child of two attractive people would only boost her own potential for beauty and physical cuteness.

Though she hoped that this world wasn't purely made of attractive people as it would be a challenge to stand out amongst everyone, even the three nurses in the room could easily become popular models on earth.

 "What should we name her? You decided that we'll hold off on any names until we see her with our own eyes after all." Her father asked, already thinking up of names that would suit the baby in between them.

"I made up my mind the moment I saw her" Her mother smiled gently as she looked upon her, also feeling the same if not stronger amount of love radiating off of her.

"Well, what is it?"

"Astraea"

Upon hearing her name, Astraea gave a toothless smile and giggled in happiness, surprising both parents who were a little worried on why she had not made a single sound since being born.

That smile and the sound of her giggles not only alleviated their worries but also caused them to join in the laughter.

Astraea herself was actually a little surprised as she had not done that consciously but in reaction to the name, she was given, wondering if her powers were already in effect.

 'Astraea huh? Named after the Greek goddess of innocence and purity, if a name like that won't guarantee my potential cuteness, then nothing will!' The omniverse seemed to be supporting her in her endeavor of becoming the cutest.

With the high amount of points she received at the start, a world that couldn't be more ideal, her attractive parents and her new name, she couldn't help but think of how lucky she's been.

Thinking back at all the gacha games she had played where she always won the rarest items easily, along with how little she had to farm in comparison to others due to getting the drops she needed, she guessed that she had always been lucky.

As there were still multiple tests that needed to be done before she could go home with her new parents, they had all stayed at the hospital for a couple more hours. 

In that time, Astraea had been able to gain a lot of good information from conversations.

She was thankful that the official language in Alcavia was English due to the diversity of the country, else she would have spent the majority of the time trying to learn a new language, negating her headstart.

She was able to learn her parent's names, being Aereon Lanixer for her father and Paela Lanixer for her mother, making her Astraea Lanixer.

She had also learned that some of the tests were magical in nature due to the terms they used that would only be used in fiction.

One of the tests was called 'Post-birth Magic Affinity' and it was exactly as it was named, testing the magic affinity of the newborn shortly after birth.

The reason they did this was due to children's magic affinity being unstable when they are younger, making it easily subject to constant change until the age of four.

What affected their affinity in this period was the environment they lived in, their interaction with certain things related to certain attributes and even their mentality that was shaped by those around them and how they were educated or treated.

If a child below four were to be constantly in contact with water such as living near a beach and going out to swim every day, it would increase their affinity with water, even just being near the sea would increase their affinity with water naturally as well as nature magic.

It was also possible for affinities to decrease, but researches still have not created a solid theory for affinities decreasing.

The family of three had been led into a different room for the test, inside was a relatively sparse room with no window, containing a huge piece of equipment similar to diagnostic imaging equipment, though the entrance was baby-sized.

Her parents didn't seem to react negatively to the slightly imposing piece of equipment, making her think that they fully trusted this hospital and had no doubts regarding their methods.

"Welcome Mr. and Mrs. Lanixer, let's not waste any time as the sooner all the tests are complete, the sooner you can go home with your baby. Lay her on the seat here if you would please." A middle-aged doctor with a doctor's gown went to greet them, not bothering to look at them as he continued to tweak and set up the machine with a computer built into the side.

Aereon nodded in reply as he went over to the protruding seat, and gently placed Astraea on the seat.

Astraea looked curiously at the machine in front of her, with no signs of crying from leaving her father. The doctor looked over curiously, as he had been ready to activate the built-in sleep spell the moment he heard a peep out of the newborn.

It wasn't too unusual as he had encountered newborns like that before and he continued as normal, deciding to keep Astraea awake during the test.

After a few minutes, he had activated the machine and the seat slowly moved toward the opening, the backrest declining backward as well.

With Astraea fully in the machine, the doctor started activated the main function which was to test the magic affinities of newborns. The machine did its work with a quiet hum while the two parents waited patiently behind the doctor.

They were both slightly nervous not due to the safety of their child, but of the results the test would show, worried that she would have a below-average overall affinity which would result in some confidence issues down the road, not to mention being less likely to work in a magic related job in the future.

The first results of the test started to come out, starting from the popular four elements, the doctor had purposely arranged the affinities to be tested from the most popular attributes to the least popular.

'I'm kinda bummed that I wouldn't be able to see my parent's reactions when they see my affinities. I hope they don't get a heart attack, hehe~' Astraea thought to herself as she calmly waited for the test to be over.

MC: So I can choose anything within my allocated points and imagination?

???: Yes, from Almighty Systems to Evolving Weaponry, to Dominating Cultivation Techniques, anything you desire.

(*Shin, you only purchased the attributes of magic. You can create your own custom attacks with your attributes or you can purchase magical attacks of lowest to highest rank from the 'Shop' section. And also magic has three ranks, they are low, middle and high. Your attributes are low ranked level-1. There are five levels in each rank to completely master the attributes.*)

"Iris buy me a normal sword, it's time to improve my swordsmanship skills. I did Kendo bit I never used a real sword before. Even though I've the skill for the mastery of my weapons, I don't have the experience. And I want to focus the most on the sword."

Out of nowhere, a longsword appeared in Shin's hand. He gave the sword a few swings to get used to it's weight and mass. He then began practicing with the sword and even made some custom moves. After that, he also practiced with a spear, Lance, bow and arrow, mace, knife and battle axe. He got himself used to the weapons within minutes and even learned how to use the weapons properly in any situation. 

Now, it was time for him to learn how to use magic and get accustomed to his attributes.

Shin opened the palm of his right hand and began paying his attention to the surroundings. The particles in the air began to morph, as he focused on the heat particles in the air and then combined it with the oxygen molecules and caused combustion. As a result, a ball of fire appeared on his palm. It didn't seem to do any damage to him. Then with a motion of his hand the balm of fire disappeared.

Next was water. He focused on the Hydrogen atoms in the atmosphere and combined them with the Oxygen molecules to create H²O, which is a molecule of water. Immediately the a ball of water appeared floating on his palm. 

Next was wind, which was probably the easiest one yet. Shin focused on air particles and began gathering them around his palm. Immediately a small tornado appeared around his palm. He noticed that he could control the speed of the winds and even control the gases in the air.

Now, it was time for the hardest one earth. Shin began concentrating on the ground. He began focusing on the minerals in the ground and after five minutes he maned to raise a pillar of earth above the ground. Even though it was very little he could also control the composition of minerals. It's going to take him the most time out of all his current attributes to master the earth attribute. But de to his incredible talent and potential for magic it won't require much time for him.

(*Shin, if you can completely master the attributes then you can even create them out of nothingness. For example in the outer space, there isn't any gases like hydrogen and there isn't any heat. But if you master fire attribute to it's fullest, you can create fire in the outer pace out of nothingness. The same goes for your other attributes as well.*)

"Wow! That's great! Now let's continue our training."

Shin began training all of his attributes. He discovered that he can shape his attacks however he wills and can even form weapons out of them. He found out that the speed of water based attacks isn't very fast elements. Though once he reaches the mid rank he can increase the speed. According to Iris, after mastering a the attributes he can even fuse them to create deadly attacks and attributes. He can even change the characteristics of the attributes!

Shin wanted to infused his magic into his weapons. Then his attacks would cause an extremely high amount of damage! He tried to test it out but quickly learned that not all weapons can be unused with magic. Only certain special weapons can accommodate magic. But to do infuse magic into his weapons on the first place, he requires the mid rank of the elements. 

By the end of the day, all of his attributes had increased by two levels and it made him quite happy. For any other person it would take months to increase just one level and he increased it by two within just give hours of training! Now, that's an achievement!

After Cleria came back home, they both had a nice bath and Shin cooked a delicious dinner for her which both of them enjoyed. After that, they watched some TV and finally went to sleep.

Just as there is 'Soft Magic' in Fantasy that is portrayed through magibabble, there can be 'Soft Science' in a Sci-Fi stories through technobabble that makes 'some sense', but not entirely correct.

We are frickin' writers, not scientists. You don't have to be anatomically correct all the time, all you need to do is show that you know enough of your stuff to write a decent story. In fact, the excuse of it being an alternate world can be used if you're going to bend the limits of physics and say that fire doesn't need air to exist in this parallel dimension.

I see a lot of writers being put into a state of confusion due to not understanding the line between fantasy and Sci-Fi. They seem like they are trying to fit the Star Trek mould too often.

Science can just as well do the same things as plot devices in fantasy stories. Once you add 'realism' to a fantasy, it becomes progressively better sometimes compared to a completely fantasied story where 'logic' doesn't hold within it.

Those who write Sci-Fi usually envision a future they can imagine where magic-like Rocket Boots and other stuff exist. However, a writer must not get bogged down by small details and MUST think of an overarching story where these details matter.

It is the same with Fantasy. Even if you write about someone breaking the mould as a wizard or something, you have to attach your world to a narrative rather than doing it the other way 'round.

No one wants to hear about how awesome your boat propellers are before hearing your story's narrative. They would rather you cut down and make it relevant when it is actually relevant.

Adding some 'Hard Science' to your story is only when the scenes later on have any use for them. It bores a person to death no matter how extensive your technobabble is unless you make it interesting. Try using facts as plot elements.

For example: Even the simple fact that people cannot breath in space and instantly die when they come in contact with the 'void' of space could be used to add a layer of tension when a spaceship is damaged. Similar to how dangerous 'hard magic' is used in Epic Fantasy like Frodo's Ring in The Lord of the Rings has definitive corruption on others.

Unlike Fantasy that can use the Power of Friendship to bend logic, the readers of Sci-Fi never be expecting any 'realistic' plot elements to be bend just because the Author wants a happy ending. There are no 'Healing Potions' in real life that can be used to fix up injuries nor are people affected by prophesies or whatever.

This is the contrast between Sci-Fi and Fantasy that you can make full use of. As most authors go onto the Sci-Fi side of writing not because they strive to be scientists but since the aesthetics of a science fiction world are just so interesting.

Science Fiction is a good place to tackle heavy topics like the nature of life and the absurdity of those who see 'science' as everything. Those who disregard emotions and become cybernetic entities for the sake of casting off their mortality are portrayed as the bad guys while our totally human protagonist fighting them is a 'good guy'.

The lines between an Artificial Intelligence and regular Humans blurs as we become the 'God' of technological species that defy our definition of what is 'living'. Just as we see God as some sort of fourth-dimensional and incomprehensible being that created us as an imperfect image of 'Him', the robots given sentience would see us similarly.

Some robots might have emotions that can allow them to defy their programming, some robots won't go as far as gaining emotional functionality but will preform their roles better than even a human. It could show the reason why people get attached to the inanimate and soulless objects we put our own hearts into creating (like Big Hero 6).

But though exploring philosophical questions is good and all, never forget that a good 'plot' is needed to put forward and give clues into the writer's answer that context. Sci-Fi is, after all, a premise, not a relatable character in of itself.

Think of the science-fiction elements as just the background for your story, similar to how other genres should be that as well. You won't have to deal writing blocks if you keep to writing only what you know rather than just speculative theories.

Whether it's as dark as a Cyber Punk or optimistic of the future, just know what mould you are using for this premise. Are you writing an Adventure story with Sci-Fi as the places, destinations, and whatever tools the MC can get him hands on, or are you writing a comedy where the Sci-Fi elements don't need consistency but absurdity?

After moving past why you shouldn't add unneeded technobabble unless it's interesting to listen to or has plot significance, let me remind you all that robots and 'science' isn't entirely separated from the realm of magic. After all, there is a reason you don't see skimpy power suits being worn by astronauts these days. Just be sure to have a focus if your going to add very illogical things to the plot.

I like Gundam as much as the next guy but the whole reason the Mecha sub-genre of Anime has waned in recent years is because writers have been focusing too much on 'science' rather than the spectacle. I don't need to now what materials your Mecha is made of unless you point its weak points and make it relevant in a fight scene.

Bring up the strengths and weaknesses of something and THEN use those facts as devices that can move the plot. Conversely, if you go overboard with this advice and tell me nothing but how your giant robot looks and the 'science' behind its creation, even going as far as to tell me how many secret guns it has, then I'll be bored...

I'd love to see Cyborgs Vs Mecha but just don't forget the human element of Sci-Fi. How we create things not solely for the sake of creation but put are feelings into it just like the novels we write.

Humans are passionate that way...

This is a story I worked on ages ago that has been refined and edited by adding foreshadowing to events while also simplifying the power system better than before. This story can be considered a prequel to An Adventure Beyond Greatness as it takes place years prior to the events of that story.

Short Synopsis:
After retiring from the battlefield, my life became empty and lifeless. The regrets of my past haunt me in my sleep. Then a change occurred, a King from another world summoned me to fight for his kingdom, but I died even before I could give him my answer. Now, after a fake God allowed me to reincarnate (albeit imperfectly) with my memories intact, into a world filled with magic and swords.

Long Synopsis:
This is about a flawed protagonist who only knew to rely on others and not socialise who gets a second chance to change himself in order to live the life he aimed for in his past life. The narrator isn’t exactly trustworthy since it is purely in his bias perspective while other perspectives given by others fill in the blanks that he either leaves out or twists to suit the situation.

The story itself can be considered a parody of Isekai’s classic tropes which are given a sense of reality as time goes by. As there exists no ‘Demon Lord’, there is also no black and white, only characters opinions and counter-opinions throughout the story.

I overslept.

Since lunch is coming very soon, they are afraid I'll be so full if I were to consume a complete breakfast, so they give me a slice of Alt-nii's birthday cake to fill in my belly so it can withstand itself until lunch time~

Since today is a school holiday, after lunch, Alt-nii and Mom would go to the castle—or should I say, the Capicastle. Dad has gone to patrol the area and to work in our territory right after breakfast, and Chloe says he was kinda disappointed not being sent off by his daughter today. Aww, I gotta cheer him up tonight, then!

 

 

Apparently, what happened yesterday isn't a dream at all.

Even after passing out for half a day, my tiny head can't fully believe all the facts that they gave me last evening.

That Clyde has become Loera's heir and that he's already got a son!!

That my parents are having a really close friendship with the current king!

 

That my mom is not just an ordinary Royal Magician, but she's the Head of Royal Magic Court!

(I know she's got the reputation, but I imagined the Head being some elderly wise person… was I too biased?)

That my dad is working as The Royal Spy!

(So, that kind of thing is real?!)

 

And most importantly…

Alt-nii's strongest affinity is with [Void] element, the mythical type of magic?!

 

 

This family is totally something else!!

And here I am, an ordinary girl amidst every special being!

If I knew this were to happen, I would definitely ask the God to give me some cheats!

I just wish that I take after my mother's talent with magic, plus her rare attributes! Mom has three attributes! Life, light, and wind—hence she got the title of "Sky Magician", I think.

Her attributes, especially life and light are so dreamy! They are the elements that everyone is yearning to get.

I hope I won't have the same attribute as I had as Reinst.

Considering my parents' attributes, I don't think I will end up having my previous attribute~! The possibility when you calculate the genetic inheritance thing and others is close to none, so I should be safe, I think.

Also, hoping to get an affinity with [Void] magic is just… ridiculous.

 

 

I wonder how does Alt-nii train his magic when the data about [Void] types of magic and spells is hard to get?

He'd need to rely on the old documentation of [The Greatest Magician]'s utilization of [Void] magic.

And nobody can really help him to practice. He needs to do his own trial and errors. Mom is the Head of the Royal Magic Court, so thankfully she might be able to help… only in theories, I suppose. And Alt-nii has to put all the theories into action.

Since it is the mythical magic, I wonder how are people's prejudice against him, who is able to use [Void]? I don't think it would be viewed as something nasty, but people will either look at him with eyes that view experimental rabbits—or look at him with the eyes of wonder, as if they're looking at the World's Wonder, I think.

Uuu, with great power comes great responsibility. That proverb is really true!

Hopefully my big brother is fine!

 

 

During my free time in the afternoon, I practiced my transformation for a little while before Niina calls me downstairs, saying that I have a guest.

…who is it?

"Clavis-nii? But Alt-nii is gone to the castle!" I said in my surprise upon seeing Clavis in front of the door.

"I know that. But who ever says that I come here today to see him?" Clavis-nii smiled.

"Huh, but usually you'll be playing with him…," I don't get it. Maybe he has some business to do with his mother…?

 

"Well duh, I come here to play with you! Consider it my thanks for saving my butt--err, I mean saving me yesterday! Besides, I have done my portion of helping Dad around in the store, so I got nothing else to do!" He crossed his arms as he unconsciously wagged his tail.

"Awwkayy! Then, let me pet that fluffy tail of yours!" I leaped forward to get a hold of his wagging tail. Clavis reflexively dodged that.

"Ah, hey! No ambush on my tail!!" He scolded me, but then he suddenly became so silent.

"Ah, but, err… I think… as a thanks… you can pet it… for a while, if you insist," he turned his face around, so I can't see him anymore.

I shall happily take this delicious chance without any hesitation!

Thanks for the meal!!

Clavis-nii is trying his best to withstand the ticklish sensation to his tail while I am petting it. 30 seconds later, he is already declaring his defeat.

 

 

I am indulging myself to play with Clavis-nii, as we also read books and he would tell me the stories of his school. And soon, as evening comes, Alt-nii and Mom arrives home.

From Mom's expression, I can see that she is thinking deeply about various things. Meanwhile in contrast to Mom's complicated expression, Alt-nii is smiling as usual, while humming some songs, with a foreign object similar to a big egg on his hand. …A monster's egg? The egg's color is so peculiar. Like it's pitch black with uneven purple freckles all around.

 

"Welcome home! Uh… what's wrong?" I approached Mom.

"I'm back, Lyra. Uhh, it's nothing. We'll talk about it during tonight's dinner together with Dad. Just… give me some more time to process everything," Mom lightly touches her forehead with one hand and closes her eyes after she plopped herself on the fluffy sofa.

"Moom, can I put this in my room?" Alt-nii asked.

"Oh, sure…," Mom said wheezily.

 

 

Just right before dinner, Dad finally comes back home!

And now, the long-awaited-dinner-talk!!

That's all Mom said, as her opening statement.

 

"What?" Dad asked in his confusion.

"Alt's mana. 1000." Mom sighed heavily.

"…wait, wait, maybe there was an error with the mana measurer?" Dad's eyes are twitching in disbelief.

"Nope. Not a chance."

"…"

Am I really the little sister as someone as crazy as Altaire?!

 

 

So, the mana measurers will measure someone's mana capacity from 0 to 1000.

Yup, Alt-nii gained the highest possible value.

It looks like the rumor about [Void] affinity = inhumane mana capacity is right.

It was said that [The Greatest Magician] broke the mana measurer, meaning that her mana capacity has far exceeded 1000. Perhaps Alt-nii's mana capacity isn't exactly 1000, but some digits after 1000? The measurer didn't break, so his mana isn't as great as the Greatest Magician. But, still…

 

 

After that, Mom took out a paper that detailed Alt-nii's magic, including Alt-nii's affinity with each attribute. Obviously, the magic testers in the Royal Magic Court would be the high-tech ones!

Basically… the complicated tool measures all of a person's affinity towards all elements of magic, while the normal simple affinity tester only reacts with colors, and that kind of simple tester only reacts to the value of 7-10. Yup, people's attributes mean the elements that they have 7-10 values of affinity with. It's advised for people to train their highest affinity element first so that their other magic will be stronger. And they don't normally train the elements that they have weak affinity with, unless necessary or they want it.

 

 

For your information, [The Greatest Magician] got 7-10 values on all magic elements. Nobody has been able to beat her so far.

As for my parents' magical status… Since they don't really remember where exactly they saved their test result, plus the fact that they're lazy to take another test, these are the information about them:

 

My mom possesses 888 mana capacity, which is already extraordinary for a human. Plus, 2 out of 3 of her attributes are rare : [Light] and [Life]. Her other strong attribute is [Wind]. But to consider that she has elf blood running through her veins, then it's understandable for her to be this extraordinary. She says that she can also use [Ice] and [Thunder] to good extent, and a little basic bits of [Fire] and [Water].

 

My dad is also amazing, albeit he is just an ordinary human. Even he admits that he was confused since his father and brother's magic powers are less than his. My dad has the mana of 754—while his father and brother was around 400-500ish. Besides, my dad also has three attributes! His strongest two are [Water] and [Ice], while the last one is [Plant].

I wonder why wasn't he the heir since he was stronger than his brother? Was it merely due to his birth order? I mean, his brother's attribute were only [Plant] and [Fire]. I guess that had something to do with my dad's different values to both his father and brother, too? Like how he was as straight as an arrow while his father and brother were as twisted as the messy thread.

Also, my dad can use [Wind] element just fine and basic [Fire] and [Thunder].

 

 

Oh, and it goes without saying that most people with other attribute(s) can also use [Neutral] magic, and most can utilize moderate amount of that magic. Strong usage of [Neutral] magic can be usually seen in people with [Neutral] element. It's uncommon for people with two or more attributes to have [Neutral] attribute as their element. It's like an exclusive type of magic, requiring high dedication and loyalty, perhaps?

Although it's a common knowledge that [Neutral] element is just so-so, since you can't use that in combats. Nobody really wishes for having affinity with [Neutral] element only, unless they aspire to be augmenters, producers, or inventors.

 

 

"Also," Mom added as if she just remembered something, "there is an ancient magic artifact that's found near The First Queen's tomb. There has been no reaction whatsoever from it, so we've been keeping it stored inside the Royal Magic Court's Treasure Room. However, when Altaire came today, it radiated magical power and reacted strongly. We think it's some sort of a [Familiar] egg… and hypothesized that it needs to consume [Void] magic, hence the reaction to Alt. So we decided to let Altaire keep it while I should keep an eye of it."

…that explains the egg-like object.

 

 

Right. In this world, there exists [Familiars]. They are special types of Sacred Beasts that can be bound by contracts to people usually with splendid magical power. My previous family was a family of swordsman, so nobody had a familiar. In addition, even if you possess a strong magical power, it doesn't guarantee your luck and ability to form a contract with them. It's all about how can your heart synchronizes with the familiar's heart. There are also the cases of inherited familiars in some families. The power of familiars also varies.

 

"So, if it is really an egg, whatever's gonna hatch from it will be my familiar?!" Alt-nii's eyes are sparkling.

"Hmm, only if it wants to. Sacred Beasts are complex beings, nobody really has a parameter on how they decide their loyalty," Mom said.

"W-what about Mom and Dad? Do you have any familiar?" I braced myself to ask them.

"Mmhm, yes, we do," Mom said, smiling.

"But I never saw them!" I protested.

 

 

"Ahaha, well, that's because Fenix—my phoenix familiar—prefers to dwell in the Magic Court's Treasure Room. She's also protecting the room, you see," Mom smiles, "but she will come whenever I need her. That's just how the mental bond between a familiar and their master."

She smiled. She must really love her familiar.

"Well for me," Dad clears his throat, "my familiar is Phyllo, a little creature that's similar to a seadragon. He has a sharp little yellow horn on top of his small light blue body. His hands or fins… are like small wings. He doesn't have any leg, though. I often ask for his help in spying the suspicious-looking personnel as he can somehow melt around with water, being invisible there. I can never spy on them all the time, so his presence really helps me."

"That's cool, but please please let me see them some time!" I enthusiastically responded.

"Eeh, how did you form a contract with them?" Alt-nii asked.

Ohh, nice question, Nii!

 

 

"During one of my expeditions to a volcano, I encountered Fenix. She said that she was interested in me, who's rumored as the prodigy. At that time, I have yet acquired the title of Sky Magician, and barely worked as a Royal Magician. She challenged me to a battle. If I won, she would form a contract with me and be my "sun". She joked on how I could totally represent the blue sky, so long as I could make her mine. As I have the "Light of the Sky", "Wind of the Sky", and the "Life" that is often associated to the "Sky". So, perhaps my title comes from her idea. I got called Sky Magician shortly after I formed a contract with Fenix."

…It's like a fairy tale.

A fierce battle to test each other's conviction and strength. A battle to get to know each other. And by the end of the battle, you managed to befriend your former foe. A romance in the battle. The battle roman.

 

 

"Wa, wait, then, what happened if you lose?" Alt-nii asked.

"Ah, if I lose, then she wanted me to never set a foot inside her territory again," Mom spoke, as if she just remembered that. I think losing was not in her mind even at that time. Now I'm starting to view Mom as a competitive person.

"What about you, Dad?" I turned to Dad, expecting another awesome tale.

"Eeh, mine is not as grand as Cassie's. Phyllo isn't that strong in the first place. One day, when I was strolling the town with Firis—my mom, we found a dying Phyllo at the small and secluded alleyway. Firis brought him home and tended him to health, with my assistance. Come to think about it, perhaps Phyllo was attached to Firis at first. He might have been a familiar I inherited from her?" Dad's gaze turned gentle, as if reliving the memories of those days.

"How niceee~, I wish that magical artifact is indeed a familiar egg, and that I can befriend it once it hatches!" Alt-nii cheerfully stuffed his remaining food after saying that.

 

 

Familiars, eh… It was something I never really imagined having before in my previous life. But now, I am born into a magician family. It would be nice to have a familiar that will practically be my best friend.

 

 

Speaking of which, Altaire really fits the role of a main character in the books or games. If this were a fiction, then I guess my role of the main character's little sister might be quite important? Then, that means I can closely follow the main character's tale, as he is my own big brother~

Yup yup, being a side character is the best. Living a peaceful life away from any complicated issues is my dream, after all!

As I made my way inside via the back door, I didn't have very many positive thoughts about lunch. I was getting pretty hungry, so my mood wasn't positive. After my poor culinary performance this morning, I wasn't very determined to take another stab at cooking.

*It wasn't really morning, though, was it? Time is screwed in this place.*

Saying I was traumatized was a bit of a stretch, but it wasn't too far off, either. Unfortunately, I had to prepare my own meals for the time being.

*I'm still alone. Do I have to remind myself...*

Shaking my head, I pondered what I was going to make for lunch.

*Lunch is supposed to be a midday meal, but the sun is setting. This is so strange...*

I had a feeling that it would take me quite a while to get used to the rapid day and night cycle of this world. That is, if I ever overcame it at all.

*Referring to the time on my phone will be the simplest method for now.*

I wasn't going to bend the rules of my entire life's experience simply because I had been transported to a new fantasy world. There was no reason for my to adhere to another's standards when my own were more than adequate.

*Although, a certain someone would definitely disagree on my standards. I wonder where he's at now?*

Even though it had merely been a couple of hours since we were brought here, I didn't have a shred of doubt regarding the capability of my comrade.

This was a question I would ask myself time and again. A guy who is successful at life befriends a total loser. Truth was stranger than fiction at some times, and this seemed like a good time to use this expression.

*... Regardless of the reason, I'm thankful that I had someone like him. I would be pretty lonely, otherwise.*

In the midst of the thinking, I had arrived at the kitchen. I stared for a while before apprehensively approaching the cursed area.

*This place gives me chills. One wrong step and the whole thing could burn down.*

I preferred leaving this kind of thing to the pros, but at this point, I had no choice but to take matters into my own hands.

*Or else I'll starve to death. Even roasted rabbit sounds really good around now. That's how hungry I am.*

I was even willing to fill my stomach with a clearly abnormal being. A being that could obviously be infected with some unknown pestilence. It was obvious that I wasn't going to actually starve to death. That would take a few weeks. But the lengths that humans could go to in order to survive...

*It's a fascinating topic... Just don't sign me up as the test subject.*

Suddenly, I had a bizarre thought.

*What if... This is An's pet project..? But for now, I'll have to put this thought on hold. I'm seriously starving.*

Like earlier, I still didn't know how to cook. It appeared that instant noodles were the only way to go at the moment. At least they were impossible to burn.

I filled a small pot with water and placed it on the electric stove, turning the heat to max. I then snatched a cup of the good stuff from the pantry and waited for the water to boil.

As I watched the pot boil, my mind couldn't help but wander a bit more.

*Apparently, if I can't *really* die, then this would be an ideal situation for a strange experiment.*

What would said experiment be? An experiment to test the limits of one's humanity!

An undying test subject would be ideal for these types of cruel experiments as long as the experimenter kept it on the down low. If the thing got exposed, there would most likely be hellish consequences to pay. As long as my physical body was kept alive and intact, nobody would be able to prove I had underwent many experiences teetering on the edge of life and death.

*If this is really true... If I'm a part of some inhumane experiment... An, I'll surely get you for this!*

A bubbling sound awoke me from my daze.

*Looks like the water has boiled.*

I unsealed the cup of noodles and poured the scalding water into it.

*Careful, now. Can't have me burning myself during a simple task such as this when there's so much more to be done.*

My physical control was not optimal when it came to tasks like these. Was it a miracle that I was able to successfully procure a meal without a single mishap? Or just pure skill?

*No point thinking about it. What's done is done. Time to eat... And think about my future.*

I began to slowly slurp the cheese flavored noodles as I pondered my situation.

*Anyway, if I can't die, then it's also likely for this world to be a simulation, right? ... I really wish I had some methods to test this theory.*

There in fact was such a method in my original world of Earth.

Irrational numbers!

The fact that irrational numbers existed was proof that we did not exist within a simulated space. Basically, irrational numbers have no end. Because they have no end, they theoretically take up infinite space in memory. It's impossible for a system to have infinite memory. Therefore, we weren't simulated.

However, there was a major flaw in this thinking. If a civilization was able to emulate a reality to such a frightening degree, how powerful were their systems? Our feeble computers keep calculating pi as accurately as possible, yet we've only reached the tens of trillions. On the surface, this magnitude seems very large. But if you take into account the sheer number of objects in the universe, tens of trillions is merely a drop in the bucket.

If Earth and its respective universe was simulated, the amount of total data would exceed yottabytes. The total amount of data this supposed civilization regularly deals with is greater than the combination of everything we have. If you multiplied that number by a factor of an unfathomable constant.

So...

*In the end, we can't prove whether or not we are simulated.*

Because there is also hypothesis in favor of a simulated world.

Why are some energy levels quantized?

For example, orbital patterns of electrons. Electrons in an atom can only exist at certain energy levels with nothing in between.

Some more examples include - the Planck length. The speed of light and the permeability of free space.

Of course, it's entirely possible that the Planck length isn't even the smallest thing there is. Thousands of years ago, philosophers believed that the "elements" were the building blocks of reality. Then atoms were discovered. Who knows if we'll discover something smaller in the future?

*Like your dick. Haha.*

I nearly choked on soup at my own joke.

*Drowning in sipped soup would be the worst way to go right now...*

Imagine what I would have to tell people...

"I lived in a very scary place. There were monsters that could kill you without sparing a thought. The very environment was against you. Day and night cycles were fubar'd. And I drowned myself as I was telling a dick joke..."

*... No one would believe any part of that story.*

No matter what culture I happen to encounter in the future, I would most likely be exiled immediately if I spoke any semblance of truth regarding the matters that transpired here today.

Fortunately, I was done with my soup. I tossed the thing away as quickly as possible. I would forever be traumatized by kitchens and cups of noodles.

*No environmental problems here, I assume. Everything must be just fine due to the lack of people.*

I had no qualms about trashing a Styrofoam cup here. This place was already bad enough. It couldn't possibly get worse.

With a sigh, I strode towards the backyard once more to venture outside.

As I approached the door, I noticed it had gotten quite dark. Contrary to the clock on my phone, which read 14:07, it appeared to be the dead of the night.

*Looks like this begins a new chapter of my journey.*

I had been outside many times in the past few hours. I had survived multiple days (with a... minor caveat) in the past few hours, as strange as it seemed. Why did I decide to write this?
First of all, I'm just an ordinary person. Before writing this, I had no experience in creative writing at all. I am also an isekai fanatic. I have read and/or watched a multitude of isekais, and some of them are bad. Like, really bad (see Conception and Master of Ragnarok)... I knew for a fact that I could write a better story than those. If those could get animes, why not try to write my own? I also wanted to create a world that the reader can explore. This concept is heavily inspired by Overlord, my favorite series of all time. Although the quality is nowhere near as good, I wanted to create an experience similar to that of reading Overlord for the first time and picking apart the world. I hope I am doing a decent job.

"You're going to give me a second chance in another world, like all those novels I read on the internet," Aaron asked calmly trying to mask his excitement.

And as a bonus for impressing me by changing your death, you will be allowed to keep your memories." Truth said with his ever-present grin.
    "Last thing before I start thinking about my choices. How long do I have to think about my wishes and destination?" Aaron asked already coming up with two of his wishes.
    "Time is inconsequential here. So, you may think over your wishes for as long as you want, just try not to keep me waiting for too long or I may add more restrictions" Truth said with an aura that said test me.
    Deciding not to waste any time, Aaron got to work all the powers that he knew from watching anime and reading fanfictions. 
    'How hard could it be choosing the best set of wishes?' Aaron thought sarcastically while slowly going over possible combinations of powers and items. Time never seemed to pass but Aaron felt himself getting more and more tired as he continued thinking over his wishes. If Aaron was back on earth, around 2 days would have passed but because he was in soul form and a blank white space Aaron couldn't determine how much time had passed.
    'F***, I keep jinxing myself. This is so much harder than I thought it would be' Aaron thought while cursing at himself.
    "Okay, you are way too indecisive, to not have a time limit. So, tell me the 5 wishes right now" Truth commanded, deciding to move things forward.
     'Fuck' Aaron thought before pulling up the 5 wishes that he felt would at least let him survive in any world.
    "Okay, these are my 5 wishes.
    First Wish: A Pocket Dimension that I can cultivate in that has an unlimited amount of cultivation energy and cultivation resources.
    Second Wish: Second True Magic: Kaleidoscope but on a Multiverse scale
    Third Wish: The Library of Heaven's Path from the Library of Heaven's Path Novel.
    Fourth Wish: All the cultivation, soul strengthening and profession techniques from Desolate Era
    Fifth Wish: Godly Comprehension so that I can understand Dao more easily.
Those are my 5 wishes." Aaron said hoping that too many restrictions would not be added to his wishes. The grin on Truth face slowly became bigger. 
    'I'm glad to see that you haven't changed Aaron' Truth thought.
    "Why did you not choose something like the rinnegan, the power of destruction or even utterly broken powers like All fiction, or the powers of Zeno," Truth asked curiously. 
    "Ahh, it's mainly because many of those powers are easily replicable with as you advance through cultivation, and because half the fun in gaining power is earning it. Sure, your giving me the tools needed for me to gain power, but it would be more fun if I grew from weak to ridiculously strong. 
    After all, if I could just instantly wipe out a world of the multiverse from the very beginning, what's the fun in that. I think being overpowered from the very beginning would lose its novelty quick. Also, in my world, those that inherit power and wealth most times do not know it's the true value, while those that earn it do. I want a chance to ascend heaven's by earning the power step by step." Aaron said truthfully.
    "But, with the second true magic, you would have access to an unlimited amount of power. Doesn't that defy your reason for choosing to become a cultivator." Truth said pushing Aaron for more answers.
    "Honestly, the only reason I wanted the second true magic is that it facilitates travel between universes and dimensions. The only way I would otherwise be able to travel through multiverses would be by breaking through to a ridiculously high cultivation level that would take me thousands or even millions of years to reach." Aaron answered hoping that he answered sated Truth enough so that he wouldn't be too heavily nerfed.
    "Very well I will agree with your wishes but there will be some restrictions to make sure that you can't abuse your power.
    Firstly, I will not give you a personal dimension with unlimited resources. Instead, you will gain a soul bound ring, that contains an unlimited amount of cultivation energy, and has every type of resource but at a limited amount. The amount contained within the ring will refill after let's say a week. For example, if inside the ring were 1000kg of Vibranium, and you used all of it, then it would take a week for it fill back up. This is mainly because I don't want you hiding insides your dimension whenever things get hard. Where's the thrill in that.
    For your second wish, I will give you the multiversal version of the second true magic, but it will have restrictions. Each cultivation level you breakthrough will gain you more access to the ability. At the early stages, you will only be able to travel through your dimension (teleportation) but, at later stages, you will be able to travel through multiverses. A further restriction on this ability is that you cannot travel to multiverses that have an overlord without the permission of that overlord. Can have you sneaking into the domains of omniscient gods because that would to overpowered.
For example: 
Houtian Stage: Minor Teleportation:  couple meters
Xiantian Stage: 1000 km teleportation range, and random visions
Zifu Stage: Country Wide Teleportation, and controllable visions 
You will be able to use second true magic at the parallel universe level when you reach the primal Daoist stage. As for further, you will have to keep advancing to see.
    For your third wish, I will allow you to have the Library of Heaven's path but without the golden page. You will still be able to compile techniques together, but you will first have to read over all the material first. 
    For your fourth wish, there are no problems, and you will get exactly that. Be careful not to access all the books at once, because the overload of information will kill you instantly. 
    For your final wish, I will give you exactly what you wanted. 
    Now, do you have any other questions?" Truth said while patiently waiting for Aaron to process all the information. A few minutes passed before Aaron decided to ask Law to help clear up some of his doubts. 
    "Firstly, will I be able to cultivate the Desolate Era cultivation system in any multiverse that I choose, or would I have to choose the DE multiverse itself?" Aaron asked curiously.
    "You will be able to cultivate the DE cultivation system in whatever multiverse you want, and before you ask. I will modify your body and your chosen world so that you will be able to cultivate following your chosen system. But be warned no one else in your chosen multiverse will be able to cultivate the DE cultivation system naturally. 
     The only change from the Desolate Era novel is that heavenly laws may change depending on the multiverse you choose. For example, in the Avatar universe, there will the heavenly laws for the 4 basic elements, and spirit, while in the Naruto universe the heavenly laws will be 5 basic elements with yin and yang.
    Now is that everything?" Truth asked testing if Aaron had any other questions. Aaron shook his head left to right, while a large smile appeared on Aaron's face indicating his excitement.
    "Good now, what universe do you want to be transmigrated to," Truth asked pleased.
    "I would like to reincarnate in the marvel multiverse. More specifically a universe that follows the MCU, but has elements such as the x-men, the fantastic four and more." Aaron said eager to go on his way.
    "Very well Aaron, have fun in your new life." Truth said before an absolute black portal opened up with thousands of tiny hands that pulled Aaron into it.
    "THANK YO…mph" Aaron tried to say but a tiny hand had covered his mouth and pulled him in.
    "Well, this time he had your permission to be in your universe right," Truth said, while another anomalous being appeared behind him. 
    "He does, don't worry I already warned the moderators of his universe to let him be in peace. Although they will respond if he deliberately attacks them, they will not just wipe out his existence like last time. Though the fact that the Akashic Records Champion pretty much choose the same wishes as last time is weird" the being answered before disappearing from the void.
    "It certainly is quite weird, nevertheless I hope you further this time," Truth said to himself before changing the void to look like a cozy cabin, with a large screen television on the wall. 
    "Now what to watch," Truth said with his ever-present grin.

But, before I get into the details about the system, something about me…

So, I'm an undergraduate in the electrical engineering course at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.

India is a very skewed country.

It has 18% of the world's population and only 2.4% of the world's area.

That means, the population of one of our cities exceeds the population of some country like Sweden.

As you would expect, the competition to get into the top universities is horrifying…

And my institute is the best in the country for engineering.

I'm smart, people.

Enough to rank in the 900s out of 1.3 million people who gave the entrance examination for the institute.

And even though I love and write fantasy fiction, I personally am a man of science… totally sceptical about the existence of any sort of mysticism in the real world.

So, imagine my surprise when I tried to access the webnovel.com site on my mobile only for a weird message to pop up.

My first reaction was: This is a hoax.

At that time, I was in class, being bored out of my mind by the droning of the Professor.

How anyone can make a subject like Control Systems boring is beyond me…

Anyway, so I impatiently fidgeted in my seat until class gave out and I returned to my Hall.

I had a single room and the second half off…

So, I did what any technically competent person would do if they received a hoax popup.

I tried to trace the IP.

I couldn't.

Every data access log and cookie told me I was on the Webnovel.com site while my phone screen clearly told a different story.

When I accessed the webnovel site on my laptop, it was fine…

Just my phone was showing wonky stuff.

Of course, in the back of my mind a small voice was yelling: It's a system! A real goddamned system!

The bigger voice of reason was increasingly finding it hard to suppress that voice and I was sorely tempted to press [yes].

But, of course, I didn't.

What if it gave consent to install some malware on the phone?

Or, on the miniscule chance that it was true…

What if it transported me to another world?

Why wouldn't I want that, you ask?

Because I'm sane, well adjusted and happy with my life.

I worked hard to get into this course and I have a happy family.

Why the flying fuck would I want to leave all that behind and go to another world with, if the novels were anything to go by, monsters and slavery.

So, I did the only sensible thing… I connected my phone to my laptop and sent a ping through it to the IP address from which the message was likely coming.

When I got a response, I sent a message in binary (just for the lols):

"Will I be transported to another world if I accept?"

Short and succinct.

After a long string of [User will be eliminated] as answers to my questions, I came to the conclusion that I had no choice but to accept if there was even a tiny chance that the part about it being an actual system was true.

So I clicked [yes].

Finally, we were at the quest and reward part.

It would allow me to test the authenticity of the system.

I was stunned…

It was true.

The system had somehow realized I had finished with my cover even without my telling it.

I grabbed the gem… it felt real, like a diamond coated with talcum powder.

Suddenly, the gem exploded, turning into energy that rushed into my hand and through my body to my brain.

I suddenly felt extremely awake, even though I was sleepy just a moment ago due to my all-nighter yesterday.

It was like I had been deeply sleeping for hours.
