"Little bro, I won't even lie to you... I came here to buy some mineral ores from you...would that be possible little bro? Please...." Santa asked with pleading puppy dog eyes 

"Of course it would.....not only that.....In the future, I will be making new unique and interesting products that'll be only available only in Baymard... Anyway, Just tell me how many tonnes you need and I'll provide them for you immediately."

Santa's eyes lit up when he heard the words unique and interesting....he was a merchant afterall

As they moved through the lower region, Landon purposely showed Santa the labs and chalk samples that he developed. 

As they moved through the lower region going, Santa was stunned.... 'He actually made the land bear food.....this guy.....' Santa thought with a smile on his face.

One could see fields of wheat, beans and all other foods covering up to farmalands. There were bananas and plantains growing on the sides as well as apples, tomatoes, lettuces, cabbages and spinach.

All the times he came to Baymard,  97% of farms didn't even have a single crop growing in them. But now these farms were overflowing with rich crops. How could Santa not be shocked? Was this still the Baymard he knew of?

And unlike the other nobles he met, Landon didn't disrupt the peace in the village just because he was passing through with a guest.

Santa observed that as they passed through, everyone on the farms greeted them warmly, especially Landon. And there were no false pretenses in their gazes. He noticed that most people looked at Landon as if he were a God. 

This little brother of his even cracked jokes with the villagers and carried the little children who came to see their parents at work. The kids were all happy that they could touch or be carried by their king. He even did a little magic trick for them before they left.

This is how nobles should act, Santa thought. Infact, Santa was a noble himself. He was the third son of Baron Hamilton of Carona. Since he couldn't inherit his father's title, he chose to be a merchant.

Over the years, he built quite a name for himself and became known through out Carona as the 'Foolish noble merchant' by many.

They call him foolish because since he was young, he never liked following all those pretentious and fake Nobel rules. At an early age, he always liked doing things that regular people loved. 

Once, he disguised himself as a peasant and worked  in a bakery for 3 months. On the third month, his dad found out and gave him the beatings of his life. Because of his nature, he became a thorn in his dads eyes.

People would mock and laugh at the Baron saying that he had a peasant son, as if there was anything wrong with that 

He later on bought a ship and successfully crossed the sea's bringing different thing s from different parts of the world into Carona. He became popular and the go-to-man for all shop owners and nobles in Carona.

But his dad was still constantly disappointed in him, as well as his two older brothers. For them, it was an honor for a noble to fight and go to war for his majesty. 

The only people who loved him dearly were his mom and his three sisters. They thought he was cute, funny and very kind.

He just didn't like pretending and doing senseless things. Why couldn't people talk to each other regularly without the extra rules attached? That's why he secretly admired Landon, he could tell that Landon wasn't one who was also hung up on the rules of ettiquet. 

As they passed through, the villagers didn't even bother with Santa at all...Their gazes were on full focus towards his highness Landon. 

Was this the weak and dumb bastard child of king Barn. Infact Santa knew that he wasn't weak. The aura Landon gave out was that of a person who had experienced a lot of battles.

When he learnt that Landon would be creating items that have never been seen before, Santa was skeptical.

After after taking a tour in the laboratory and seeing this so called chalk, Santa was pleasantly surprised.

Although chalk seemed like a small matter, to Santa it really wasn't. It was genius. Do you know how many slate-boards are thrown away per year in his empire because they get scratched or destroyed?

Chalk was way better than slate-pencils and way cheaper. slate-pencils are like sticks which are used to scratch the boards for educational purposes. Chalk was the best solution for this problem, and it was only found in Baymard. How could Santa not want any?

"Little brother, is it possible to buy these chalk sticks now? I need enough chalk for 10,000 people in one go"

"Not for now Santa, these chalk sticks are barely enough for my people as it is. And we dont have enough man labour to produce such large amounts....but, If you can get me 3000 slaves or people who are genuinely looking for work the next time you come, then I'll be able to produce a huge batch for you....How about that?"

"That makes sense little bro....okay okay.....at the end of each month, I will send one of my trusted aids to you with a ship containing 1000 workers in them. I will do this every month, until you have 3000 men from me."

"That's good.... speaking of which..how much will you pay per tonne of ores? Landon asked

"I usually pay 1200 gold coins per tonne little bro. And I'll be leaving with 150 tonnes of these ores today."

'So I'll get 180,000 gold coins today...not bad..' Landon thought.

"Alright.....so how much does it cost to get slaves?" Landon asked

"In the slave markets, slaves are gotten by how beautiful or how strong they are. The average slave costs 1600 copper coins per person" Santa said

'So for 3000 people I'll need 480 gold coins.' Landon thought.

"Do you have any rare seeds on your ship?"

"Of course I do silly..... Wen I used to come here, the nobles would buy bags of wheat, beans and other foods from me. There would also be a few who buyed the seeds of these foods, although they knew that the lands couldn't bear anything. I'm guessing they still wanted to try their luck." Santa said with a smile

"Good.....once we are done with your order, I'll take a look at your seeds."

Chu Yi dies in a car crash and becomes Landon Barn, the illegitimate son of king Barn, ruler of Arcadina. Because his mother was a maid and the king’s greatest disgrace, his father had always despised him. The same could be said for his half-siblings. 

When he turned 15, his father had announced that the city of Baymard would be given to him, and would no longer be under the empire's control. It was a well known fact that Baymard’s lands were barren, and poverty stricken.... For god’s sake, this was banishment.

His deadbeat father had indirectly banished him from the empire.

I watched Marie lay down after putting the VR headset on. I was trying to figure out why she told me about the red button. Did she know that something might happen while she was in the VRMMO? Did she not tell me everything that went on with Father Gregory and Sister Amy? Now I was actually worried about sitting here. Do I need to be more alert? Should I watch both the door and the window? Why had she brought up the broken window lock now? Its been broken for so long and she just now reminded me of that. Could something have already happened while I was outside the door and I didnt know about it? I was seriously going to freak myself out if I dont calm myself down right now. Taking a few deep breaths to calm myself down I quietly relaxed and closed my eyes for a second picturing Josh and I in the woods laughing about a prank he pulled on the baker right before he was fired. I knew it led to him being fired but it was funny at the time.

My wonderful, handsome and prankster of a boyfriend. He keeps me filled with happiness and love. I am never bored when he is around and we ever seem to do the same thing twice. We have been together in secret for almost 3 years now.

I was caught there in my daydream when all the sudden I felt something brush my ankle. Opening my eyes and looking down I saw nothing there at all. This had to be my nerves and I was just imagining it. I shifted my chair closer to Marie and used the bottom of her bed to prop my feet up and got comfortable so I could read my book I brought back with me after cooking in the kitchen.

Marie sighed which told me she was fully immersed in the game. I really hope things are going to be ok for her. Where the hell was Josh? Is he that worried about my note to show up and then leave? I will have to find him tonight or tomorrow depending on when Marie is not in the game and is charging her VR set. I really looked Marie over. I worried about her when I leave the orphanage in about 6 months. I have to leave at the age of 18 by law. Her offer for marriage would let me take her with me but I dont think Josh would be happy with that. She is my best friend and at times Josh seems jealous of my relationship with her. I will habe to talk to him about the possibility as well. Wow I have a lot him and I need to sit down and talk about. The bodyguard job, what he was going to do now that he lost his job, his place he is living right now is above the bakery. He is going to have to mve out in the next week to a month. The baker might let him stay until he finds another job. If he gets hired by Marie I dont know what he is going to do for living space as he is 18 and can't move in here. Maybe his parents will take him back in for a few months until I turn 18.

Completely lost in thought I didn't notice the arms reaching out to grab me from under the bed.

The next thing I knew both of my legs were grabbed and I jumped to stand up and yelled. Looking down I saw Josh's face smiling from under Marie's bed. When that little shit comes out of the VRMMO I am going to get her back so good. I have no clue what I am going to do but I WILL do something. Damn it they BOTH got me good.

"Josh what the hell are you doing under Marie's bed? You could of given me a heart attack. How long have you been under the bed? Does Marie know you are there? Forget that last question, of course she knows you are there. Why else would she of made me feel so stupid for checking her closet for you. Come on out and go get another chair. We need to have a long talk and hopefully this will work out for us both in the long run."

Josh smiled and slid out from under the bed on the other side of where Sam was. He knew better then to get out next to him. He truly spooked him and he knew his loving sweetheart would get even with him. He also needed to talk to Sam about the marriage idea and find out what this job opportunity is. So he hurried out of the room to find a chair and come back.

"Oh my God I cant believe Josh did that to me. I was freaking out about what I could be missing. Now I know it was so I could have her leave the VRMMO and yell at her for the set up. This talk is either going to make or break our relationship. I am so worried." Sam quietly said out loud.

*Marie/Shi's point of view*

While all that was going on. I found myself back in my room at the inn. I knew I had to head over to the skill trainer and get my quest for my next skill. I checked my timer for how long I had left and was shocked to see I still had slightly less then 2 days left on my time. If has felt like its been days to a week since I first started the game but its only been a day and 2 hours of in game time. I also noted I still had a day and 6 hours left on my noble armor set before I could take it off. So I would have about 10 to 12 hours of being armor free before my role was given to me. I checked my inventory and saw that I had my 86 gold still and all my items I should have and headed out of my room. I noticed a little mail icon but decided to check it after I got the quest for my second skill. Walking out to the Inn was the same as last time only there seemed to be more people there and some looked a lot higher of a level then the starters. I realized that I had decent armor but I lacked an actual weapon other then the beginner sword I was given. It would kill the small creatures around the village but nothing else after I leave this area. I told myself I would get a weapon once I got my quest for my second skill done. I am going to get the Apothecary skill. I know I talked about getting the writing and languages skill but I think making potions would allow me to travel to find rare herbs so I can grow them in my shop enough that I would be able to get out and about.

As soon as I stepped down the last step everyone froze again and bowed, knelt or curtsied. I did my best to ignore them as I walked by but I heard a few whisper to one another if I could be the noble that one person was talking about on the forums. Didn't the person say the race though was Dragonkin? That noble lacks the Dragonkin wings and is a human. Lucky for me my armor and cloak hide my wings so no one could tell my race. My body frame is similar to a humans body frame and only the wings and skin gives away my race, which is currently all covered up by my armor set.

Whispers continued, Just remember the name of the noble and watch out for the notifications. Maybe that source on the forums will know more soon and can share the name or something else. If anyone can see the nobles name let us know after the noble leaves.

I ignored them and kept walking with confident steps. Inside I was yelling at myself at how I could be so foolish and give away too much to the point I might of gotten caught already and that would be dangerous for me. Making up my mind to get a better weapon right now I headed out of the inn and headed straight for the auction hall I saw when I was heading toward the storage master. It will take me about 10mins to walk there so I kept an eye out for anyone following me. I saw a few guards standing near a wall and walked over to them. They stood at attention as soon as I got close.

"Guards, there are some players that are following me and I think they have ill intent towards me. They are all actual players and not NPCs. Please do your job and stop them if they come by. I would like to make sure I am safe while in your fair city."

"By your command we will summon more guards to follow you and be at your destination, My Lady, just let us know where you are going."

"I am heading to the auction hall right now to find a better weapon and then the skill trainers."

"Contacting the guards now. We will watch for players to pass us now. Be safe until the next set of guards arrive. It will be at the most 5 mins until they are in position for you. My Lady be safe and take care."

Keeping my wits about me I continue on my way. I make sure to keep a steady pace and don't look like I am rushing. I keep wondering to myself, how did they find my location? A few mins later I see 3 sets of guards standing along my way to the Auction hall. I am about 2 mins away from the hall. One set of guards start walking towards the hall while the other two stand there talking to each other. As I pass them I see one set stop talking and turn to follow me at a slight distance. It appears the guards are going to do their jobs. I wish they were more then NPCs but I will take what I can get. 

Arriving at the auction hall I am shocked when I walk inside. Everything about this game screams medieval times with different races walking around but the auction hall makes it beyond clear this is a game. On the left side I can see holograms of different types of transportation, mostly horses, carriages and various carts. One the right I see various signs for materials like herbs, food, wood, iron and various plants and flowers. In the center I see a station for houses which intrigues me but I will check that out after I find a weapon and maybe a shield too and then get my second skill. So I walk to the back of the hall and after passing every clothing type, accessory shop and armor shop station I finally found the weapon one. I walk up to it and tap on the screen. Hundreds of options appear. I think about it and limit my search to swords for right now. Prices looked outrageous on here and most I had to be higher level to use do I used the filter to show only what I would be able to use. There were 10 options left for me. The first 6 were great swords and required a lot of strength and two hands and I rejected them flat out. I am on the weaker side body wise as I knew my real body would affect my abilities. Speed and agility would be my strength in the game. I saw two that had a lot of promise but there was a third one that could grow with me. The first two were good and solid beginner swords that looked like more advanced swords. One had a poison ability that I didnt like so I turned that one down. The other one had an ice effect that seemes pretty cool. Both were set in stats ans couldnt be upgraded. The Third one was the one I was being drawn too but the name had me questioning my sanity. 
It was named The woman's cursed blade. The description read, This blade can only be wielded by women and will be bound once equipped. The blade once bound will activate a curse that will grant the user a special affect. What that affect is will be random and then locked in place permanently. Luck could grant you a second or third ability or no ability at all. This blade will level with you as you level and will glow an eerie black shade of whatever special affect you are granted.

I thought hard about that blade. With a price of 6gold it was a pretty big risk as if I get a horrible special effecr or worse no effect at all then I am stuck with that sword taking up an inventory slot unless I destroy the sword and then the gold is a waste as I cant sell it once it's equipped. 

After 5 mins of staring at my 3 options I decided to go with the cursed blade. As I took out my 6 gold coins I noticed a few people standing around sort of near me but not too close to be alarming. I glanced around to see 6 guards near by as well so I relaxed and paid for the weapon. A package appeared in front of me and instead of just taking it I decided to open in right then and there. As I opened it people seemed to watch me pretty closely but as soon as it was open people backed away pretty fast. Apparently the weapon scared them and I am not sure why. I opened my equipment page and went to equip it but got told that wasn't allowed in the auction hall do I put it in my inventory and went over to the shield station. I started looking for a shield and found a matching shield to the sword. It was only 3 gold and decided to get it as well and put it in my inventory too. People around gasped when they saw the shield I picked. I smiled and turned to walk out of the auction hall. One player walked up to me and waved and then asked me a question. It was in a language that I didn't know, maybe it was Japanese or something Asian but I only knew English and the translator apparently only works for typed messages. Looking up I saw his name was Kuro.

"I am sorry, Kuro but I do not understand you. I speak English."

I waved at him and started to head out. He stopped me again and bowed his head a few times and said something else slowly.

"Kon'nichiwa" said Kuro

I smiled, I used to read books about Japan so I knew the standard greeting.

"Kon'nichiwa, Hello, Do you understand English?"

He smiled and nodded at me. Ok I thought I can ask him simple yes or no questions. I wish I could do more and I wondered why he was trying to talk to me of all people. I thought about a way to help and realized that if I got the writing and language skill I would be able to understand him. Maybe it was a useful skill to have after all if I want to travel later in life.

"Come with me and I will see if I can help you."

He bowed and said "Arigatōgozaimashita"

I had no clue what that meant but I knew Arigato meant Thanks so I assumed that was what he was saying. The guards had their hands on their weapons and came closer to be in range if needed. I headed out of the Auction hall to see a small crowd of people around the hall. I headed toward the skill vendor with Kuro following behind me like a little foreign puppy. I thought Fairies are kind of cute looking like a child in height yet they are adults. This guy was dwarf like with a large black beard and a large nose with cute royal blue wings.

We walked to the Artistry vendor and I told the vendor what he would need and that he spoke Japanese and the two of them started talking too fast for me to understand them. Finally they stopped and both looked at me.

"My Lady, the guy here wants to speak with you but can not as he already has two skills. He says he was some very important information for you but you will need to be able to understand him or be able to read it to get the informarion as it is in Japanese. It is something to do with your house or items."

"Very well, if it's that important then I will learn the writing and language skill as my second skill. Please teach me the skill."

"By your command My Lady so shall it be."

*Chime* Writing and language skill recieved *Chime*

Please go over to the writing board and copy the lettering that you see onto the white boards. Take your time and complete 3 boards correctly to learn the skill fully.

I walked over to the writing boards and took my time writing the strange lettering. It took me an hour and 9 tries to get 3 right but I finally got the notification that I had learned the skill.

I turned to find Kuro and he was still standing there patiently with a smile on his face.

"Ok how can I help you?"

"Did you know you picked cursed items? They will bind to you if you equip them. You bought both the weapon and shield set, are you trying to complete the cursed set and become the cursed one? I know where you can find the armor and gloves. The leggings and boots are in the auction hall and for 5 gold you can buy them both. The armor is harder to get to but with 4 cursed items it should be easier. I will help you get to them if you want me too. Do you want to find them?"

"Well I will have to look at the other items to see if I want those. As for the armor set what do you know about them. I might as well grab the rest of the set if they are close. So to answer your question yes I want to find them."

That little spoiled brat of a kid is going to get me punished again. I hated being the whipping boy (girl) for that noble. This was the life I was given in the game I play. Once your character is made you are stuck with it. But we can change our fate and choose our own if we can solve a hidden mystery...

This book is about a world created by someone from a unique type of celestial race thats on top of the food chain in the omniverse. These beings are those who are both blessed and cursed at the same time by their creator god. You will find out more small bits about the being who created the game in the later chapters of this story as a sneak peek of the other book I'm currently creating. That book is called 'Infinitum, One of the Chosen Five Reincarnated Souls' which I'm not publishing any time soon.

Now for the player's assistant and guide. They are real beings living in a separate world while also being randomly chosen as the player's assistant based on compatibiliy. They and the world they live are also created by the creator of the game but their bodies in the game is actually a form of solid-astral projection so it means that they aren't completely a part of the game.

The story will be a little graphic during  a few fight scenes in the real world of the story so please if you can't stomach gore in a apocalypse theme novel don't test your mind's imagination and your stomach's tolerance. Remember health is wealth.

The world had become an apocalyptic playground for a demonic race that had cause a outbreak of zombies and mutated beasts upon humanity and the only way to fight them was through refining oneself and gaining strength from a virtual reality video game that suddenly appeared out of nowhere called Celestial's Space Core: Evolution's Might!

A celestial was gazing upon the sea of stars that twinkle in the sky with a heavy yet sorrow filled heart. Her very being was being pulled to another multiverse to be reborn to become even stronger and transcend into higher being than ever before, but her heart was reluctant to do so because of her love for her home and almost all the races that live there. She who was a human before her rebirth as a celestial because of her unique soul will nolonger be able to come back and humanity who will be facing disaster after she leaves will not be able to protect themselves. For her last ditch effort to saving humanity after she leaves, she created a game that will change humanity and give them the strength to survive.

Listening to the birds chirping outside, Fei walked alone in the empty—save for the guards—open corridor, heading towards the courtyard to learn this week's new combat technique.


As she looked at the yellowing leaves outside, she thought to herself a verse that her Wing Chun teacher often said while drinking his tea, 'Time goes away, waiting for nobody'.


Her master's birthday was in late summer, and it has only been a month since his departure. Yet the leaves are already showing signs of changing colors, a sign of autumn.


Though she had read many books with grandiose descriptions of this season, this was the first autumn that Fei has seen; and she felt that no description from the books could ever match up to the real deal. She was looking forward to when autumn would be at its peak, a time that she was sure would be aesthetically pleasing.


After Carlos left for camp, Fei hardened her resolve to train harder and to accumulate more knowledge, so that she would be a suitable bodyguard for her master when he returned.


She vowed that she would become the best bodyguard that he's ever seen!


She didn't care about anything else, only whole-heartedly focused on her work. She often read in the library, even after her classes ended, hoping to achieve her goal of reading every book in it before her master came home.


After two weeks, Fei's Language A skills, including reading, speaking, listening, and writing, far surpassed those of regular servants in that lived in the estate. But that was to be expected, after all, she could remember every word that she's seen.


But although Fei's skills were better than servants, that didn't mean that she had completely grasped the language. In fact, saying she was better than servants doesn't isn't much praise.


Two of her worst subjects were writing and understanding. Writing was difficult for Fei because she did not understand how to express her thoughts, even if she could remember the shapes of the letters. 

Adding on, although Fei understood the physical meaning of a word, she could not understand its hidden meaning when placed in context with other words.


For example, that strange book that she read the first time she went to the library called The Odyssey. Every now and then, Fei would go back and reread it; but she still can't understand exactly what it is talking about. The book/poem seems to speak in riddles, and so even while she could read each and every word, Fei couldn't fully understand the point of the book.


One day, Fei realized that The Odyssey is what you would call a 'poem,' and from then on, she would regularly read poems, even though she didn't understand what they meant. She just thought that if she kept reading poems, perhaps one day, she'll know what they mean.


Just like this, Fei spent her time in a relaxed and peaceful way.


There was one thing that Fei was a little disappointed about though:


She never saw her Wing Chun teacher again after the first week of her classes.


Although Fei had expected it as such, she still felt a little down. Perhaps it was because he was the most serene and skillful teacher out of all her other teachers?


Indeed, Fei began to train under many professionals to hone her physical abilities and skills. These classes were mostly just for practice, not educational—since she already learned the general information about those techniques from books.


After Wing Chun, Fei learned other various forms of unarmed combat. Apparently though, learning all those martial arts was not needed in an actual bodyguard training; in fact, according to a book Fei read, it would be enough to receive less than two months of training to be considered a qualified Close Protection Officer.

Nevertheless, Fei understood that this was to better protect her master, so she didn't feel any enmity towards Mr. Rochester, who planned all of this.


Waking from her thoughts, Fei realized that none of the servants had approached her this morning. Previously, some of them had regularly bombarded her with all sorts of offensive words and phrases. 

They had started this ruse ever since Carlos left, but it was only recently that Fei learned what all those words they used meant. She also came to know that this was called 'verbal bullying.'


As for the reason that garnered such bullying? Well, Fei had absolutely no idea. She always nodded at them as a form of politeness, and when they spoke poorly of her, it wasn't as if she spoke back and did the same to them.


Fei recognized that if she did thrash out at those people, she would be making trouble for her master, something she did not want. Besides, she never had the urge to talk back to those people anyway. Those words they said didn't harm her. Did they think it would?


Fei suddenly shook her head, noticing that her thoughts had gone awry once more. She continued walking once more, wondering how concealed carrying training, the first session that included the use of weapons, would go.

In a world filled with war and horror, she was a tool of slaughter. 

She fought her way emotionlessly through the war for her masters' commands.

After giving instructions to Qing, Fu Yan started to improve the game.
His goal was to give the user the freedom they wanted.
Though games are games but many players want the games to be realistic because they want to able to do things, they can't do in reality.
That's what games are for.
They allow players to escape reality.
Though games are very good for entertainment but they are also criticized because players get addicted to them and they waste their time so Fu Yan was trying to create a game that would be widely different from all those other games available.
His main focus was to give freedom to players to allow them to do whatever they wanted to do in-game though there would be some restrictions but mostly they would have the freedom they wanted.
The second point was to make it a widely different game by giving it a genre of educational entertainment.
This was the other task that he gave Qing to solve.
The idea was to add puzzles in the game which after being solved would give players boast or something similar.
Fu Yan was not the first one to think about this idea. Many Top-level game companies also thought of this point but it was very hard to implement because when one person solve the puzzle, he would tell others and they would solve it by the same process and creativity would end there.
But Fu Yan had something that they did not have and that is "AI". 
Qing would be given the task to add puzzles and in-game educational entertainment.
She was currently gathering data from different sources.
The first option is to replace puzzles every day whether they were solved or not and the second one was to monitor the puzzles data. If one puzzle had been solved 5 times, it would become invalid and would be replaced.
Now here came the tricky part. If one wanted to replace puzzles in a game, they had to release patches for that players would become annoyed because they would want to enjoy the game not download updates after updates for it.
So Fu Yan was stuck at this point and this was also the main reason why his game was not finished yet.
He had already finished the game development book and was ready to return it to the library.
"I should ask Old Shun if there was any book related to this problem in the library that I can read with my level."
After thinking that he went to his bed and laid down.
He swiped on his hand and appeared in the great hall of the library.
Old Shun was standing there, smiling as usual.

After giving him this book, Old Shun said.
"As you can see this is a beginer+ book and its content would be a little hard for you to understand but seeing that you are hard-working and giving your all so I am giving a gift. You might have needed 40 to 50 credits to understand the knowledge in this book but with my gift, you won't be needing them."
After saying that he pointed his finger towards Fu Yan's head and he could feel a surge of knowledge entering his brain.
Fu Yan was confused with this behavior of Old Shun so he asked.
"Old why did you gave me a gift?"
Old Shun just smiled and said.
"You will be the last librarian that I have to train and after this, I would be free from this duty so I want you to become a librarian fast."
Fu Yan was even more confused after hearing this.
"What do you mean by you would be free after training me."
Old Shun explained to him.
"You see we guardian or you can call us workers are different from librarians. We enter into a contract with this library after we fail to return the books we borrow in time and don't have compensation to pay so we become workers for the library for a period of time to pay what we owe and my settlement was a huge because I lost the book that I borrowed from the library so I had to enter into a contract to work for the library for 3000 years or help train 10 librarians so though only 2134 years have passed, I have already trained 9 of them and you would be the last that I have to train. Though we lose our freedom but we have some privileges. We can access books in the library easily and improve our knowledge and we also have other perks but everything in this library follow the rule of equal exchange so you can understand what I want to say."
Fu Yan's mind was filled with questions but Old Shun refused to say more, saying he would answer these questions of his at a later time."

Louis arrived back at the manor with a massive smile on his face, "my lord, you won't believe what I found!" Following behind him were five women.

"What is it Louis? Who are these women?" Asks Mondaeus curiously standing up and walking in front of Alexander his hand reaching for the sword he is not currently wearing.

Louis looks slightly confused at Mondaeus and the women take half a step back nervously, "Mondaeus, these are the servants who worked at this house previously, can you calm down please?"

Mondaeus turns back towards Alexander with a slightly sheepish grin, "I guess being in a new place makes me slightly jumpy…"

Alexander stands up and pats Mondaeus' shoulder as he walks past him, "Welcome ladies, I assume you are all interested in starting your jobs here again. Can you please each introduce yourselves individually to me?"

A large buxom woman with dark hair steps forward first, her large body dressed in an ankle length dress and apron despite the heat of this southern region, "I be Susan, my lord. I was the cook at this house and do wish to be the cook again"

Having been a commander in the army Alexander was used to the numerous accents of Halgran and recognised the north-western twang to Susan's speech. "ah, excellent, then our meals will be in your care. I assume Louis has told you what the pay will be?"

She responds, "that he did, and I wouldn't ask for a piece more, my lord".

Alexander nods glad that each of these women have already been informed of the working conditions. 

The next woman to step forward is a young blonde lithe beauty, "I am Amis, my lord, and I was the maid here whilst the previous lord was present."

Amis' confidence was surprising for someone so young, she was a similar age to Maria back at the palace and had the same jovial attitude to her.

"You are originally from the Capital? I will be happy for you to serve as a maid here" he responds.

"Yes, I am from the Capital, is the accent that obvious my lord?"

"It would seem so" Alexander chuckles. 

Alexander goes through the other three women meeting them each in turn. Saria the seamstress, an older greying woman who would be less of an employee and more of a contractor when needed. Khara the undercook, a young woman similar to Amis but from the south of the old regions of Halgran, who would serve under Susan. And finally, the second maid, Teri, an older woman of perhaps her mid-thirties.

After having Susan quickly prepare a quick lunch of bread, cheese, and preserved meats, the trio set out to explore the town and investigate current affairs in further detail. Alexander was particularly shocked when they reached the edge of town to find a large number of men working with large mortar and pestles, pounding the large pestle into the mortar and other with wicker disks flicking something into the air.

Confused Alexander turns to Louis, "Louis, what are they doing?"

Louis turns to Alexander shocked by his ignorance, "my lord, they are husking the wheat in order to separate the chaff from the grain…"

Alexander looks puzzledly at the workers having found his first issue to solve, "so many men for something so simple… How are the heads separated from the stalks?"

Louis just pointed over a small shade where a number of elderly men could be seen stripping the heads from the straw with small knives. Alexander was appalled at the inefficiency of this method compared to an even slightly mechanised method. 

"Can you take me to where the flour is ground?" he asks as his mind whirs slowly developing a design for a solution to the problem. "And I want to meet any carpenters in the town as well"

The miller's wasn't much better, apparently must of the town subsisted on a grain porridge because the miller used his own strength to turn his small mill, since the lord had left he had essentially abandoned producing bread favouring working as a farm hand as it was more sustainable. 

The carpenter's were thankfully somewhat competent although they could clearly be improved. They used a pit saw a system which used a pit and a two man pull saw to cut boards by hand, one man in the pit being showered by the fine wood dust. Their horse voices made it clear that the wood dust was having a negative impact on them, but for some time this method would be acceptable and changing it wasn't the major priority right now. 

Walking back towards the house Alexander was thinking about how to make his plans work, "The cliffs closer to the shore are limestone aren't they?" 

"I believe so, why do you ask my lord?" 

"The houses here have a white coating, is that baked lime?"

"I would assume so; would my lord like to see where baked lime is produced?" 

"Yes, actually let's go there before returning tonight"

With a slight sigh Louis responds, "yes my lord"

The lime kiln was more than anything Alexander had hoped for. According to the townsfolk it wasn't used particularly often but it would produce roughly a short ton of baked lime whenever it was lit. It was a real, working flare kiln, with this strong and effective cement was easily within reach. 

Turning to Louis with excitement in his eyes Alexander said, "have this lit tomorrow and find me a work crew of thirty to forty men, I will have designs for a project tomorrow."

That night Alexander immediately went to his room and went to work drawing designs for what he was going to build. The designs were rough to say the least, a quill was not an effective writing implement and Alexander insisted on used feet for everything, so he could easily envisage the design in metres. Not to mention the difficulties of writing by tallow candlelight. 

The next morning Louis came to Alexander's room and knocked on the door. When Alexander opened the door, it was clear the only one who had actually slept in the room was Lucio, who was curled in the centre of the large bed.

"My lord, I forgot to ask, how much do you intend to pay these labourers? I will go out recruiting before breakfast, the fall harvest is soon, and most men are busy." Says Louis.

Alexander attempting to do the maths in his head tries to work out how much an average labourer makes a day as opposed to monthly. Finally completing the rigorous mental maths Alexander responds, "12 pieces a day, copper of course. That should be enough to attract some men to work this very important project. Also, please show me to the masons"

Eventually reaching the masons with Louis' help Alexander shows them his drawings explaining what he needs them to do. They tell him that it should take them a weak to produce what he has shown them in the design, but it will be costly, a whole silver crown as all of them will have to work on the project together. Alexander considers this well worth it and travels to the carpenters next. Showing them his designs, they suggest an even longer time of perhaps a fortnight just to achieve what he is asking and a similar price. A fortnight should be just in time and Alexander eagerly agrees. 

A quick breakfast of fried lamb is eaten before Alexander sets off again with Louis to meet the work team. He leads the large gang of men down to the south of the lake to the short stretch of river closest to the sea. Here he marks one long skinny rectangle parallel to the shore and one much larger one just eight yards from the other. He orders the gang to dig both rectangles to a depth of two yards. The men begin their work eagerly excited by the high wages they are being offered. Louis still confused by exactly what Alexander is planning is somewhat disgruntled by then being appointed foreman of the work-site for the day being told to pick a foreman from the men and pay him a full sixteen pieces a day and make him aware the position can be taken if the team doesn't work hard enough. 

Later that afternoon the lime kiln is lit, and Alexander looks on with both excitement and trepidation, the entire plan will literally be resting on this kiln working effectively enough. The kiln will take at least a day to burn and another to empty, but afterwards there should be just about enough lime for the entire project. 

Three days later Alexander on his daily visit to the site to find the narrower rectangle now fully dug. In the past two days Alexander had, had carts come to the site and dump rubble rock from the mines. The quicklime had also been brought and was being intentionally shielded by some wooden boards from any possible rain. Sand was brought up from the beaches and dumped alongside these materials. Now it was time to begin the next stage of construction.

A talented Engineer reborn into a classic fantasy world? The sky's the limit in this New World Of Steel! At least for now, after all, I doubt a human lifetime is long enough to develop space flight from a feudal society... or is it!? Find out as the story progresses.

The second group left, while the first group perished, at their hands. I checked the corpses, but found nothing. 'They aren't stupid, they took everything that could be of use, even their clothes' I thought. It didn't matter that much, I was still quite happy, that someone would help me out like this. 'I need to increase my strength. I've been too confident lately. Just because I broke through the Half Step of the Outer Limit, it doesn't mean I'm invincible' I thought. 

If the fight was one vs one, I would also kill that leader guy from the first group. I could kill almost anyone from both groups, in one vs one battle. 'The exception is, that leader of the second group. I'm not sure if I could win, even with the help from Frosty' I thought. As I thought that, I asked out loud "Frosty, what do you think? What should we do next?".

Frosty transformed into his corporeal form, and this time didn't try to motion in order to convey its meaning. Frosty started writing something on the ground. Although the grammar was not very good, at least I knew the words and the meaning. Frosty wrote that we should continue with the Mercenary Guild thing, and that increasing my rank was a good idea. "I also thought about that. With a better rank, I will have access to more information. While I'm at it, I can still train and try to increase my strength. How about you?".

Frosty thought for a while, then nodded. "I still have that Extract, it seems to help you develop a lot. Maybe we can use that, to increase your strength?" I said. Frosty nodded, and agreed with me. I took out the Extract, but this time, I gave Frosty a much larger does than before. "Alright, take this. Absorb it for as long as you need. I will manage on my own for now". Frosty nodded, and drank the Extract. Frosty almost immediately froze on the spot, but before it could completely freeze, Frosty change back to the tattoo on my hand.

The Extract was so strong, that even my arm formed a layer of frost. 'This should help develop Frosty's freezing powers. It will be great help later' I thought, and went straight towards a cave, that was closest to me. I still had to complete the task, and I wanted to complete it exceptionally. 'Everything is recorded in that Mercenary Guild. If I finished my task in an exceptional way, this should allow me to move up the Tiers faster' I thought.

I already had over 100 Lears on me, but I didn't want to submit 100. I was aiming at a much larger number. 'I can probably catch about 100 Lears in 1-2 hours. If I assume about 3 hours to return, I have about 18 hours left' I thought. It was 18 hours, because I also had to get to this place, and fight meanwhile. The first cave I've visited, was full of Lears. I started catching them like possessed. I decided to utilise a different method to save some time. I only killed the Lears. I would leave the process of extracting all of the blade like legs and teeth, for when I was on my way back to the city. I could always do that when I walked, so there was no point wasting my time now.

After about 2 hours, I had almost 300 Lears in my bags. I separated the ones I already had, with the ones I had to clean up still. The number of Lears decreased in the cave, so I decided to change locations. 'I can't exterminate them all in one place. Besides, it takes longer, when there are fewer of them' I thought. The next cave, was about 20 minutes away, if one sprinted. 

I repeated the same thing in the next cave, then moved to another. Not every cave was crawling with Lears though. Sometimes I had to change locations very quickly, as the amount of them inside was abysmal. I ran like this for about 10 hours, without taking breaks. I was tired, even though I ate food while traveling from one cave to another. After these 10 hours, I had around 800 Lears in my bag. That was the amount of Lears, I caught in that 10 hours period. All together, I had almost 1000 of them. 'I will catch a bit more, and then return. I wonder what type of bonus will I receive, when I bring a 1000? It is 10 times more than required, so I'm expecting a better bonus' I thought.

When I finally finished catching those Lears, I had over 1000 of them altogether. I decided to just rest, and eat something. The bag was also heavy. One Lears weighted around a kilogram, so I was carrying about a tonne of them in that bag. I could put them into my Storage Feather, but I figured that carrying so much, was also a form of training. With my rest and meal done, I started cleaning up the Lears.

'I still have couple of hours, before I need to return the task. I can just do it here then' I thought. I was already sick of those Lears. It was such a monotony, and I still had to clean them up. This alone took my a few hours. I finished cleaning the rest of the Lears in my bag, as I walked towards the Varent.

I went straight to the Mercenary Guild, and walked over to the counter. The same Golem that provided me with the membership stone, asked "You came to hand your task in?". I nodded my head, and said "Yes, I also have more than required", and handed him the paper with the task, as well as the bag which contained 1000 Lears. 

When he took it, he became visibly shocked due to the weight. I said "I would like to get the bag back". He came back to himself, and said "Of course, we are interested in the items required only. By the way, how many did you collect?". I said "1000 of them". He took in some air, and replied "That is exactly 10 times the required amount. Because you brought so much, and it was your first task as well, I will double your contribution points. Although the amount of money will not change, you will get paid the same rate, 25 Copper Hals per 100 Lears. Are you alright with that?".

I said "Sure". He took the bag with him, and dumped the content somewhere else, probably into another storage item. He returned after a while, and handed me the bag while saying "Hand me your membership stone. I will update it". I gave him the stone, and he said "For this task, you will receive 2 Red Hals and 50 Copper Hals, as well as 100 contribution points, which is double of the usual 50 that you would receive".

He recorded all that on my stone, and then gave it back. The Golem then said "You can now take on another task if you'd like, or wait some time. You have 100 days, to finish another task". I nodded my head, and headed to the boards that displayed those tasks. This time, I wanted something more interesting, than simple Lears collection. I also planned to aim for a bonus like before. Last time, I didn't pay much attention to the tasks displayed on the boards, because I simply wanted a task which would give me a reason to leave the city. Now that I had a more detailed look, I noticed that not every task could be taken by me, or at least that was what I assumed.

The tasks possessed ranks as well. There were Bronze, Steel and Silver tasks displayed on the boards. My rank was Bronze, so I probably couldn't take the Steel or Silver ranked tasks. I didn't even try, I was sure that the Golem would say "You can't take that task, your Rank is to low", or something like that. I searched for Bronze Rank tasks, and found an interesting one. 'This one should be fun' I thought, and took it.

Clarence nodded. "Yeah… Then let's have Sophia to make an explanation."
Sophia thought he would call number five in order, but she didn't expect him to call her. She said, "Because there were many Arab businessmen at that time, Arabic numerals were improved by Arabs and introduced to Europe. Europeans thought Arabs had invented the numbers, so they called them Arabic numerals."
When hearing this, the audience understood. Several fans took the lead in applauding, and others applauded.
Although both of them gave the right answer, Ada only knew the answer but didn't know why. Everyone could tell who was more capable.
After a few more questions, everyone except Sophia and Ada made mistakes. At this point, the audience noticed Ada, the only contestant who could compete with Sophia.

The screen enlarged Ada's answer for everyone to see.
The audience then saw it clearly. It was Dai Xi.
Xu looked like Xi, but they were different. So, Ada's answer was wrong.
This mistake was too low. She just wrote the wrong word in such a game.
Ada blushed. It was not easy to memorize those things. She had never learned knowledge about this and misread the word. Unluckily, the computer happened to choose this question. So, she was just out of luck.


For nearly 30 years of existence, she had been in a wheelchair, suffering from polio since childhood. While her freedom of movement had been diminished, the activity her brain had outstripped everyone. Unable to join in the rough of other children, she had spent all her lifetime reading, which gave her exceptional knowledge. 

She accomplished many outstanding achievements across several fields and became a famous Science Professor. Her life changed forever when she was caught in a suspicious fire in her lab. Rebirth occurred and when she comes back to life, she finds she is now in the body of another Sophia Green, a teenage high school bully.

Meanwhile, Albert Pearson, the first heir of the richest family around the country who hid his true identity becoming an assistant of Sophia Green has gone crazy after hearing the news of Sophia's death. 

He went back to his family and took advantage of his status to keep searching for the truth of that fire.

And one day he met a teenage girl whose name was Sophia Green...

Fate changes between them as they are seeking the truth behind her death! Could he recognize Sophia and confess his feelings?






Special Note: If you are looking for a sweet contemporary-romance genre, this novel doesn't have that kind of plot. Most plots of my novel talk about mystery, suspense, and a slice of life. Often FL starts a slow pace of development, from weak to strong.

The group was merrily chatting while making lunch. The woman whispered with each other while the two old men, Bernard and Paterno, watched them. The three new faces, Chanchan, Mustache, and Bear, finally started a conversation with them. Its a bit misleading, seeing a group of five uncles gazing at the youthful women, but no one felt worried since their gazes were filled with warmth.
Jun strode towards the group, then sat on the chair beside Evo, who was busy writing things in his notebook.
"Are you writing? That's odd. Never seen you write before."
"Have you ever seen me without my laptop? That's right. Right now."
"Your handwriting looks awful."
"You're brutally honest, and you're not helping."
"Why? Is what you're writing important?"
"I liked the idea of setting up a store. Do you know that life only starts when humans settle down? The nomads got tired of moving from place to place and started planting. They then made a small community. People gathered, and civilization finally started. As more and more people settled down, living conditions and technology finally advanced, just like what the ancients did. We need to settle down to start something, and a store can do it. People will need food and shelter, even protection. We can offer that, and you can offer all that."
"If you mean killing infected and making the place safe, then that's easy. We also have experience in controlling an area, so this should be feasible. But what are you writing?"
"I'm planning for the future. I'm writing everything we know about this new world. This could be useful in the future."
"We could sell it and earn what? Food? Are we going back to the bartering system." Jun sarcastically said.
Evo slightly lowered his head and began thinking. He muttered to himself, "We can't. And if we use the old monetary system, only the rich who are probably hidden on their mansions would benefit."
Evo looked at Jun, then said, "We need a new commerce system."
"Don't look at me. If you want me to kill infected, I'll gladly do it."
"It's cooked! Everyone, please get your plates and line up."
"Right on time. I'm starving." Jun said.
Evo followed Jun to get some food. They went back to their seats and started eating their food.
At that time, a hand touched Jun's shoulder. Adrian appeared behind Jun as he was about to swallow a spoonful of food.
"You need to see something."
Adrian spoke solemnly while looking stern. Jun chewed then swallowed the food as he glanced at Adrian. "Right now?"
"Yes."
"Okay, let's go and see whatever it is."
Jun stood up and followed Adrian, who walked towards the stairs that lead to the second floor. Evo got curious and followed the two of them.
"You got any leads? Are they having bad thoughts?" Jun said as they climbed the stairs.
"No, they don't have any guns or any plans. I left when I started hearing moans."
"Ohhh! They're having a party, and they didn't invite me... Those rascals!" Jun said.
Evo smiled wryly when he heard what Jun said. He just caught up to them, and this kind of conversation welcomed him. He shook his head as he grinned. "Marianne would kill you if she heard that."
Jun hollowly laughed, then looked below the stairs, searching for Marianne. He found her encircled with other women, who were chattering nonstop.
"Is she you're girlfriend?" Adrian asked.
"No. Where are we going? You need to eat lunch too."
"We're here. I probably won't have enough time to eat lunch, though."
Adrian stopped in the middle of the hallway, then faced the glass panel on his left.
A tall statue of the national hero, Jose Rizal, towered in the middle of the plaza. Further back were three buildings that have the same height that just varied on their sizes.
The building on the left was the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, also known as TESDA. It serves as the Philippines' Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) authority. As a government agency, TESDA is tasked to both manage and supervise the Philippines' Technical Education and Skills Development (TESD). Its goals are to develop the Filipino workforce with "world-class competence and positive work values and to provide quality technical-educational and skills development through its direction, policies, and programs.
It's a school that offers a wide array of courses like agriculture, automotive, electronics, and other useful skills.
The building on the center was a huge event center, and the one on the right was the District's Engineer's office. Seeing the building, Jun was reminded of his father, who used to work at that building.
Jun became speechless as he looked at what was happening in the plaza. A horde of infected was surrounding a group of people. Police officers and civilians were fighting the infected. They seemed to have run out of bullets since they were using guns to bash the infected's heads.
Jun noticed something wrong when the survivors inside fought calmly and systematically. The infected didn't charge at them and instead encircled the area. He then remembered his conversation with that 'lying lieutenant.' The lieutenant said that they were stranded on the plaza square, surrounded by infecteds.
Seeing the situation, he finally believe the claim. Though it was a bit late, he would still try to help them. Not because he was a good guy, but because he was really interested to know what keeps the infected away from them.
Jun took the radio from his dimensional storage. At that time, one unlucky survivor actually got caught and was pulled out from the 'circle.' The survivors near him tried pulling him back and succeeded. The upper part of that unlucky person's body was riddled with bites and was bleeding non-stop. A woman ran and knelt down beside the body.
Jun pressed the button on the radio. "Hey, lieutenant something. Are you still there? Can you hear me? Hellooooo~ Anybody~."
Jun waited for a reply and received an unexpected one.
"You're a fvcking piece of shit." said the man on the other side of the radio.
"I agree," Evo said, who was standing at his side.
Jun glanced at Evo, then chuckled. The two of them were already used to each other. Dissing at one another, was one of their ways to pass the time.
"Is that how you want to thank me for thinking of helping you?"
"You're still just thinking of it?" the man replied. "People are dying here. We haven't eaten for days, and we won't last another day. The safe radius keeps on decreasing! The infected are now five meters away from us! They don't even die and keeps standing up after we kill them!"
Jun became interested in the safe radius that the other person mentioned, but he frowned after hearing the last sentence.
"Aren't you looting the bodies?" said Jun puzzled.
Although he has the unique ability to see extra description, looting the bodies only needed someone to place their hands on the dead infected's body. By some luck, people should be able to chance upon it after spending some time fighting for their life.
"What do you mean by looting the bodies? Do you want us to check their belongings and go out of the circle?"
Jun contemplated for a second. Considering that they were probably using the guns at the start of the apocalypse, they wouldn't be able to loot the bodies since infecteds would surround it. It would also be suicidal to stop and check things out when you're in the middle of a chaotic place. They got stranded in the safe zone, and when they ran out of bullets, they started using the guns as melee weapons. At that time, the bodies should have fallen to their side and not backward. They should have been curious and touched the dead bodies. But why don't they know about it?
Jun got his answer after asking a few questions.
When the infected fell inside the safe zone, the dead body turned into sparkling particles and flew inside the statue. The lieutenant thought that the statue was helping them, and so they tried pulling the infected inside the circle. Things worked for a while, but suddenly, the docile infected charged at them. Then they noticed that the circle radius was reduced to nine meters.
With the thought that no help would come, they decided to kill the infected. Since they don't know of any other way to get rid of the bodies, they used the power of the statue even at the expense of the safe zone shrinking.
"Stop doing that. We're going to help you." Jun said.
"Okay, everyone! Take some rest. Help's coming!"
Jun could hear cheering from the other side. He watched them celebrate from afar.
"By the way, what level are you now?"
"What level?"
Jun became speechless. "Never mind."
Evo suddenly said, "Maybe there's a downside on staying in a safe zone? Like some pros and cons. The place offers safety while taking away the ability to earn experience. It's possible, and the most likely reason."
"Okay. Let's go down first." Jun said then started walking.
Adrian ran up to him. "So, what's the plan?"
Jun casually replied as he climbed down the stairs.
"We're eating."


In less than a minute, the world that we knew had changed. A mass vertigo occurred and for a brief moment, everyone fell unconscious. When people woke up, they learnt that their bodies were strengthened and that they also gained unique skills for themselves. Zombies and mutated monsters began to rampage on the streets.

Jun was a casual thug. When he woke up, he gained an extra ability that will help him survive in this new world. Join him as he journeyed through this apocalyptic wasteland in search of his remaining family. Watch him build his own underground empire and make a haven for his own.
