Chapter 2433 - Foundations Revealed One After Another
Nine Dragons Emperor responded to Shi Feng's statement with a hateful glare. The force Zero Wing had mobilized had sent Twilight City on high-alert. How could this be interpreted as anything other than an interruption?
Moreover, Shi Feng's grand arrival had ruined Nine Dragons Emperor's efforts to interest his Guild members in a partnership with Mythology. Not only had Zero Wing's show of strength shocked the Dragon-Phoenix Pavilion's members, but it had chased away any thoughts about Mythology.
"No, you haven't interrupted us, Guild Leader Black Flame. You're right on time," Phoenix Rain said, a rare smile gracing her lips at Shi Feng's greeting. She then turned toward Cold Shadow and firmly stated," Vice Guild Leader Shadow, although I am very interested in a partnership with Mythology, I'm afraid that I cannot sell Candlelight's shares."
When Phoenix Rain rejected Mythology's offer, silence filled the plaza. Every member of the Dragon-Phoenix Pavilion turned to stare at Phoenix Rain, complex emotions flashing in their eyes. Surprisingly, however, no one stepped up to object.
If she had rejected Mythology's offer earlier, they would've fought her decision as illogical and doubted her ability to act as a Pavilion Master, but with Zero Wing's three Flying Ships before them, no one could find a reason to argue with her decision.
They were talking about Flying Ships, and it was clear that Zero Wing had some method to secure multiple ships. Now that Zero Wing ruled the skies, no superpower would dare offend the Guild.
With Zero Wing's help, the Dragon-Phoenix could ensure the safety of its transportation routes in the future. In fact, the Pavilion could even rely on Zero Wing's reputation to secure even more sea zones, which they could develop, and in turn, fuel the Guild's growth.
However, if Phoenix Rain sold her shares of the Candlelight Trading Firm to Mythology, the Dragon-Phoenix Pavilion would likely lose Zero Wing's assistance. The difference between an ally with shares and one without was massive, after all. Furthermore, everyone knew how stingy Zero Wing was with its shares. If Phoenix Rain sold Candlelight's shares without Zero Wing's consent, no one would be surprised if Zero Wing became an enemy.
"Rain, you should think this through carefully. You are aware of the Guild's situation in the Apocalypse Empire. Many Otherworld powers have already begun to set their sights on our Guild, and you know better than I why we took the risk of transferring Twilight City to the Dawn Ridge," Nine Dragons Emperor loudly proclaimed when none of his Guildmates spoke up. "If we can form a partnership with Mythology and obtain Combat Runes, the Dragon-Phoenix Pavilion can quickly establish a foothold in Level 100 neutral maps. With the resources and equipment we can acquire from those maps, we'll be able to stabilize our position in the empire. Are you really willing to throw this opportunity away?"
Before Zero Wing's Flying Ships had arrived, he had merely hoped to reduce Phoenix Rain's popularity within the Pavilion, but now, he steeled himself to tear her from Zero Wing, no matter what it took.
Phoenix Rain and Zero Wing had become firm allies long ago. Zero Wing's strength was Phoenix Rain's strength. But Mythology was a different story. The potential alliance with Mythology might drastically elevate Phoenix Rain's position, but it would be temporary. Mythology wasn't interested in a partnership with Phoenix Rain specifically; it wanted an alliance with the Dragon-Phoenix Pavilion. This would leave room for him to take advantage of plenty of opportunities, but if she stuck with Zero Wing, he'd have nothing.
Fortunately, Mythology had offered something that the Dragon-Phoenix Pavilion urgently needed. There was no way the Grand Elders could ignore the temptation of Mythology's Combat Runes.
Although the Dragon-Phoenix Pavilion was a super-first-rate Guild, its strength was only considered average among the many superpowers in God's Domain. Now powers from the various Otherworlds had begun to invade the main continent, the Dragon-Phoenix Pavilion's position in the game was under threat.
To alleviate some of the pressure the Guild faced, the Dragon-Phoenix Pavilion had decided to gamble and transfer Twilight City, the Guild's strongest city, to Dawn Ridge to secure its hold over the neighboring Level 100 neutral map. However, the other superpowers in the Apocalypse Empire weren't idiots. They had also invested plenty of resources and stationed their players in the Dawn Ridge.
If the Dragon-Phoenix Pavilion had a powerful tool like the Combat Runes, it would have a much easier time exploring Level 100 neutral maps. This was the Grand Elders' ultimate goal.
Hearing Nine Dragons Emperor's comment, several nearby Grand Elders frowned and turned toward Phoenix Rain, their expressions hinting that she needed to make her decision carefully.
The Combat Runes would be significantly helpful when the Guild's members explored Level 100 neutral maps. The benefits these Combat Runes offered were just as impactful as Zero Wing's Flying Ships could be. In fact, the Combat Runes might be even more beneficial to the Guild. Zero Wing owned those Flying Ships, after all; the Dragon-Phoenix Pavilion did not. Moreover, rejecting Cold Shadow's offer would be on par with slapping Mythology in the face.
Mythology was one of the virtual gaming world's Five Great Super Guilds, and it had already shown the Pavilion a lot of respect by approaching the smaller Guild for an alliance. If the Pavilion rejected Mythology, the Super Guild would offer nothing. It might even move against the Dragon-Phoenix Pavilion. Although Mythology was focused on its development on the western continent, it was still one of the Five Great Super Guilds. Causing trouble for the Pavilion would be child's play.
Phoenix Rain's expression turned grim. She had never expected Nine Dragons Emperor to pander to the Guild's Grand Elders after failing to rouse their Guildmates. The Grand Elders didn't normally meddle in the competition for the position of Grand Pavilion Master, but they were from the same generation as Ku Rong. Their influence in the Guild couldn't be underestimated. Even Ku Rong had to weigh their words carefully.
What a smart move. It's no wonder how he maintained his hold on the Black Dragon Empire in the past.
Many Planar Passages were connected to the Black Dragon Empire, which led to intense competition in the empire. Normally, only Super Guilds were confident in stopping so many Otherworld powers from invading, but during Shi Feng's previous life, Nine Dragons Emperor's Branch Guild in the Black Dragon Empire had successfully defended the Dragon-Phoenix Pavilion's territories, only losing insignificant sections.
"Don't be in such a hurry to reject my offer, Phoenix Pavilion Master. Mythology is sincerely interested in an alliance. If we can negotiate a partnership, I can even speak with my Guild Leader about selling some of our Tier 3 Combat Runes to the Dragon-Phoenix Pavilion. Tier 3 Combat Runes will grant the Pavilion an absolute advantage when exploring Level 100 neutral maps," Cold Shadow said sweetly, smiling. As she spoke, she glanced at Shi Feng.
Cold Shadow was familiar with the predicament the Dragon-Phoenix Pavilion found itself in. As long as she could purchase Candlelight's shares, she didn't mind letting Nine Dragons Emperor borrow her power to suppress Phoenix Rain.
Naturally, Zero Wing couldn't hope to compete with the terms Mythology could offer.
When Cold Shadow finished speaking, the nearby Grand Elders watched with bated breath. Although they didn't know much about the western continent, they knew a thing or two about Tier 3 Combat Runes. Only three Super Guilds were capable of producing the tools, and they didn't sell them to outsiders. If the Dragon-Phoenix Pavilion's Tier 3 experts could equip Tier 3 Combat Runes, then the Guild would be unstoppable in the Hill of Ruins, the Level 100 neutral map neighboring the Dawn Ridge.
Moreover, these Combat Runes would ensure that the Pavilion had an easier time developing its navy.
Just as the several Grand Elders were about to step forward to persuade Phoenix Rain, Shi Feng retrieved an ancient Magic Array Scroll from his bag and handed it to her.
The moment Shi Feng revealed the scroll, it drew everyone's gaze. The Magic Array Scroll's Mana was extraordinarily dense, nothing like the scrolls players typically saw.
"This is the sample of what we spoke about earlier. If you find it acceptable, we can negotiate prices," Shi Feng calmly stated as he gestured to the Magic Array Scroll now in Phoenix Rain's hand.
Cold Shadow only grinned at Shi Feng's play. She found it simply laughable that he wanted to use a Magic Array Scroll to compete with her Guild's Tier 3 Combat Runes.
However, when one of the Dragon-Phoenix Pavilion's Grand Elders, who possessed a Master ranked Appraisal Skill, curiously appraised the scroll, he couldn't help but gasp.
"An Advanced…Ancient Barrier Scroll?!"


Starting over once more, he has entered this “living game” again in order to control his own fate.

This time, he will not be controlled by others.

Previously the Level 200 Sword King, he will rise to a higher peak in this life.

Methods to earn money! Dungeon conquering strategies! Legendary Quests! Equipment drop locations! Undiscovered battle techniques!

Even the secrets Beta Testers were unknowledgeable of, he knows of them all.

+ From ancient Greek myths to Game of Thrones, the legend of the dragon is one of the most enduring and romanticized throughout history. It has been traced back as far as 4000 BC and exists in all parts of the world. In and around Europe dragons are viewed mostly as monsters of evil intent. In ancient Rome, the army used dragons as symbols of strength. During the Renaissance, fear of sea monsters kept sailors from venturing too far from known waters, and the edges of their maps would read "Here be dragons."


+ The etymology of the word dragon, which it says entered the English lexicon in around 1220 and was used in English versions of the Bible from the early 14th century. Dragon derives from Old French, the language used by nobles and law courts following the Norman conquest of 1066. This, in turn, stems from the Latin draconem or Draco meaning "big serpent," which was derived from ancient Greek δράκων (drakon).


+ In Greek mythology, the Hesperian Dragon named Ladon was a hundred-headed serpent that guarded the golden apples in the garden of the Hesperides. Historically, European dragons were viewed as being evil, jealous, and greedy hoarders of treasure. In the stories, they were generally treated as violent monsters who must be slain by heroes and saints. European dragons could have four legs, two legs, or none, and often had wings.


+ In Asia, and especially China, the view of these creatures was very different. Dragons were thought to live under the ocean in the winter, arising in the spring with a clap of thunder to bring the rain needed for their crops, according to the American Museum of Natural History. They breathed clouds and moved the seasons. The dragon was the symbol of the Chinese Emperor, and the Imperial throne was called the Dragon Throne. Known as the Dragon, the emperor ruled in harmony and brought peace and prosperity to all.


+ Chinese dragons are depicted as being more serpent-like, with long, snaking bodies and usually had four legs. They are generally seen as wingless. How people view them and what they believe about them varies widely, but the idea is too widespread not to think there are some common roots.


+ Ancient Origins discusses a number of potential roots. The first one is crocodiles. Saltwater and Nile crocodiles are the two largest living reptiles on earth today. Currently, saltwater crocodiles live in the eastern Indian Ocean region, and Nile crocs in the rivers, marshes, and lakes of Sub-Saharan Africa. But 1,000 years they had a much larger habitat range and could have been encountered by people living in Greece, Spain, and Southern Italy.

+ Dragons appear in the mythology of many ancient cultures but nowhere else in the world was the creature quite so revered as in China. There, in marked contrast to other world mythologies, the dragon was almost always seen in a positive light and particularly associated with life-giving rains and water sources. Considered the most auspicious year sign, worn on the robes of emperors, depicted in the most precious materials from gold jewelry to jade figurines, and with countless references in literature and the performing arts, the dragon was everywhere in ancient China and looms as large today in the Chinese psyche as ever.


+ One of the earliest creatures to appear in the tales and legends of ancient China, the dragon is most often depicted as a giant and lithe beast which dwells in either water sources or clouds.


+ The Chinese dragon is extraordinarily powerful, and when it flies, it is usually accompanied by lightning and thunder. When, by whom, and on what reality the dragon was first invented is not known, although some historians suggest a link with rainbows and a 'serpent of the sky' which is seen after rain showers or at waterfalls. Carved jade dragons have been excavated at sites of the Hongshan culture, which can be dated to 4500-3000 BCE, far before any written records of the creature appeared. The historian R. Dawson gives the following description of the Chinese dragon's physical attributes.


+ Alternative descriptions give similar attributes but sometimes with the body of a snake, the eyes of a rabbit, the belly of a frog, and the antlers of a deer. Other qualities of the dragon were that it could change its shape and size at will and disappear or reappear wherever it wished.


+ The Chinese scholar Wen Yiduo suggested that this fantastic collection of beastly parts was actually based on the political union of several different tribes, each with a different animal as their totem. The dragon was, therefore, a symbolic representation of the assimilation of these tribes into a single nation. An interesting hypothesis, it does not, however, explain the appearance of dragons long before any such political associations existed in early Chinese communities.


+ Despite the dragon's fearsome aspect it was not usually seen as the bad-intentioned monster that inhabits the myths of other cultures around the world where it is typically slain by a brave hero figure. Indeed, in China, the dragon was and is regarded as being a just and benevolent creature.


+ It is for this reason they became associated with rulership and especially the emperors of China who, in their capacity as the holders of the Mandate of Heaven and as God's representative on earth, must always rule in a just and impartial manner for the good of all their subjects.

  Accessing Myths Selecting Dragons And Dragon Kings In Ancient Mythology]


+ We encounter dragons in almost every ancient culture of the world. Dragons played an important role in the beliefs of our ancestors and these creatures were depicted in a variety of ways.


+ Dragons can be placed in two groups- East and West dragons, and they were regarded as either good or very fearsome and evil creatures. In ancient China, the dragon was a highly significant creature that became a symbol of the Emperor and his throne was sometimes called the Dragon Throne.  Ancient Chinese believed dragons were in control the weather and water. These creatures were said to be able to manipulate oceans, floods, tornadoes, and storms.


+ There are nine distinctive Chinese dragons and some of them are serpent-like creatures with large bodies and long heads. The dragon in China is believed to be a benign creature that is said to bring wisdom, power, and luck. They are famous for their goodness and to ward off evil, protect the innocent and bring safety to all. Tradition and celebration of New Year in China can be traced to a dragon named Nien (or "year").


+ Nien was a legendary wild beast that attacked people at the end of the old year. Villagers would use loud noises and bright lights to scare the creature away, a practice that slowly morphed into the Chinese New Year festivities. Today the dragon has its own year on the Chinese calendar. On the British Isles and in Scandinavia, dragons were often depicted as wingless creatures. In this part of the world, the dragon was depicted as a more malevolent creature that was very difficult to kill. The West dragon was wingless and lived in dark places or wells where he was guarding hoard treasures. Approaching the dragon was almost impossible because of its poisonous fire breath. Dragons in British and Scandinavian mythology often appear in stories when a prince tries to save a young maiden from being abducted by the fearsome animal. 


+ If he can slay the dragon, he can become the new King and win the girl as his bride.n ancient Chinese mythology we encounter five enormous dragon kings who were rainmakers and rulers of the waters. Four of them were stationed at the cardinal points and ruled the seas. Their chief had his abode in the middle. The five dragon kings were named Lung Wang. The dragon kings of China lived in crystal palaces under the sea. 


+It was believed these underwater dwellings were part of the mysterious Underworld that could only be reached through underground mountain caves and special secret entrances. When the Water Dragons rose to the surface the caused typhoons and when they flew through the air caused heavy raining and hurricanes. The Dragon Kings are among the deified forces of nature of the Taoist religion. A dragon's head was one of the most famous symbols of the Vikings. 


+The Viking dragon was in many ways a representation of the Midgard Serpent, a mythical sea creature who fought with the Norse god, Thor. The reason why Vikings built ships with huge dragonheads was that they wanted to appear as frightening as possible from a long distance. Vikings called their longships "Drakkar" or dragon ships and the dragon was a powerful and fearsome symbol of war.


+ Many have seen the Welsh flag features a red dragon and that the Prince of Wales uses rampant dragons on his banner. The old British word "draig," meant leader, and the word, "pen," meant head. The two words combined to form Pendragon or Pen Draig, a noble surname in early Britain as early as the fifth century. The dragon symbol continued to be used by the last native Welsh princes of Wales, Llewelyn ap Gruffydd, and Owain Glyndwr, during their struggles against English occupation in the 14th and 15th centuries.


+ The Pendragon name in Welsh literature includes Uther Pendragon, father of the legendary King Arthur.

Computer interpreting mythological creatures. After that creates or tells small stories on them. This is mostly for fun I hope you can forgive me I do not think this would be interesting to most people but please give it a try.

This is a personal collection for my own use.

In the System Space, Fang Ning was staring anxiously at the battle that they had not experienced for a long time.
Compared to Sir System, he was even more aware of who this opponent was!
Because he had repeatedly received information from Axiom Daddy on Earth, and he could sparsely sense the same aura from their current opponent!
Was this the Heavenly Axiom of Mars?
No, more precisely, this was the consciousness of Mars!
The consciousness of Mars had been awakened!
This was a fact terrifying enough to make everyone horrified.
Its presence could only mean one thing, that was, the Earth Heavenly Axiom's consciousness was not the only one in the universe.
Meaning that all these countless stars and planets, were likely to all possess their own consciousness??
If that was truly the case, then the real protagonist of the Era of Mythology in the future universe, had only today, begun to emerge!
It would be neither human nor the Gods of the Upper Realm, but these stars that have long existed since ancient times!
All this time, they had operated according to specific laws and patterns.
Without purpose, without consciousness, and without meaning.
Without a past, future, or desolation.
Along with incessant combustion, all of them had only one unified end, and like their many predecessors, they belonged to the boundless darkness.
However, when the Upper Realm descended Earth, when the Era of Mythology had been activated, these stars had finally ushered in a turning point in their fates!
Their long history of revolvement had allowed them to accumulate the deepest foundation and deposits, which would make them the true protagonists of the Era of Mythology.
Compared with them, all individual powerhouses appeared so insignificant and powerless!
When he thought of this, Fang Ning could not help but feel a deep sense of fear.
As strong as Sir System was, he was only a match for those enemies in the ordinary sense.
Now that they were faced with a warrior formed by the consciousness of a planet, would he still be able to defeat it as he did with the others?
His fear, in the instance the Earthen Dragon suddenly rushed in, had been magnified to the extreme.
At this very moment, he could not be any gladder than he was not on the battlefield. 
He was very aware of the fact that he was a terrible fighter, and he may never be able to learn the skills of battle and the will of a warrior like the other protagonists. 
Because he was lazy, afraid of suffering, of pain, of toil, of getting hurt…
Fortunately, all of this had nothing to do with the Sir System which it was hosting.
In combat, and in micromanagement, it was the true definition of a God!
Fearless, composed, and merciless.
The Azure Dragon dexterously avoided the swift blow of the Earthen Dragon and immediately seized the other's exposed weakness.
With a swipe of its claws, the Earthen Dragon was split in two!
The Earthen Dragon vanished thereafter.
With only such a light blow, the Earthen Dragon had completely failed its assault attempt! 
This was the difference in skill in combat!
The newly formed consciousness of Mars, when it came to combat, had merely followed the techniques of the natural field. 
It had yet to realize the opponent it had challenged had long since risen to levels far above and detached itself from the restraints of the laws of the universe. 
It was not facing an enemy of the conventional concept, but in a sense, its enemy was one that worked in even more mysterious ways, perhaps even more so than that of consciousness of stars in the galaxy.
However, the Azure Dragon did not get carried away with itself, neither did it lose its vigilance; only mortals were confined to such flaws, flaws that do not belong in the same realm as the force which governed its existence.
Sure enough, the next moment, a dark red wind stirred up again, reuniting with the Earthen Dragon!
Seeing this, Fang Ning fell into deep thought. Befuddled, he ran into the office of the Draconic Penitentiary to look for Anderson, the resident battlefield guide to commentate on the battle happening outside.
The expert that was Anderson, after seeing the situation outside through the screen, began his commentary.
"It seems that this Earthen Dragon, taking advantage of its home base, will incessantly regenerate itself so long as it remains near Mars; more importantly, it seems that its combat skills may also evolve rapidly as well." Anderson analyzed seriously.
Hearing his words, Fang Ning repeatedly nodded.
Without fail, just as he had mentioned, in the next battle, the Azure Dragon took a little more effort when he tried to tear apart the Earthen Dragon, the other beginning to attempt to dodge his blows.
Even though it still proved to be an easy task as the skills and tactics of the Earthen Dragon was still quite rusty.
It seemed to only know how to tackle, bite, and scratch, just like a newborn tiger cub, which had yet to experience the brutality of the forest woods, and yet to master the art of the hunt. 
However, it was easy to foresee its powerful support system. 
Constant regeneration allowed it to build and learn its skills unscrupulously, recklessly, directly from the highest-end of combat skills. 
Even when the Azure Dragon had successfully crushed the other for the third time in a row, it was still able to reanimate itself.
When Fang Ning saw this, he finally expressed his worry, "Sir System, this is not going to work. It's obviously trying to steal your combat moves, once it learns, you'll have to put in a lot more effort. It has the ability to regenerate endlessly, even if it can't beat us, it'll wear us to death. This is an entire planet's deposit we're talking about, as scarce as Mars is, it's still an enormous planet, and we're just tiny organisms, we can't even begin to compare."
"I hear you and I agree with everything you just said, but just as it's learning from me, I'm also studying its weaknesses. With an ability to regenerate like that, there's gotta be a catch to it, and I need to find this loophole." Sir System said agreeably.
Whenever it came to serious matters, Sir System stopped butting heads with Fang Ning.
"Antaeus, the Giant from Greek mythology, lost its powers after leaving the earth, maybe you can try to lure him away from Mars." Fang Ning suggested.
"Okay, let's give it a try."
The Azure Dragon let out a long screech, but unfortunately, this was in space…
Unable to unleash its full vigor, no one could hear it. 
Then, with a toss of its head and tail, it flew outwards into the sky.
The Earthen Dragon followed closely behind, intending to finish it off.
10,000 kilometers away from Mars, the Azure Dragon killed off the Earthen Dragon again. As usual, the Earthen Dragon reanimated, only this time, the speed of its regeneration became significantly slower.
The distance continued to widen, now 100,000 kilometers away from Mars. When the Earthen Dragon died again, it perished into dust and vanished into the dark space. This time, it was never reborn. 
On the battlefield, stood only the Azure Dragon, unharmed.
"Hey Mr. Rich Host, your strategy worked." Seeing this, instead of celebrating, Sir System became annoyed.
"Uh, isn't this a good thing?" Fang Ning mumbled, he felt wrongfully blamed, "You managed to defeat that Earthen Dragon, didn't you? It wasn't able to reanimate again."
"What's good about that? Did you see the system notification?"
"No."
"Then it's not over yet, this means that the Earthen Dragon hasn't completely died yet, it must've regenerated back in its home base." Sir System grumbled unhappily.
"Oh, I understand now, unlike Antaeus, while it loses its ability to regenerate when it's far from Mars, but if defeated, it can be resurrected again back in its home base. It's meaningless unless we defeat it in its old nest, but if we kill it there, it'll just regenerate itself again! This is such a paradox!" Fang Ning said in frustration. 
"Actually, there might be an easy way to solve this paradox," Sir System suddenly changed the topic, "But I'm going to need someone's help."
Fang Ning sensed a bad feeling coming up, he hesitatingly asked, "What do you mean?"
"It's easy, you put on the two Divine and Earth Monuments, distract the Earthen Dragon while I dive into Mars and look for its core and eliminate it once and for all!" Sir System replied confidently.
"Impossible, I'd never do something so dangerous, not in this life." Fang Ning shook his head.
"Oh, very good. "Oh well then, I'll find someone to help you," Fang Ning quickly shifted the topic, giving it some thought, he started listing, "Lovely is no good, he's much too small, if we're talking about someone with high combat abilities, there's plenty of them locked up in the Draconic Penitentiary, but ones like the War Devil Lei Tian are unreliable. The Bodhisattva Spirit King doesn't seem like someone we should bring into a place as dangerous as this, he's good at eliminating monsters and demons, but he's capable of spirit control, and doesn't have the power of the Upper Realm."
"When you list them all out, now I understand, we've got plenty of allies who can play supporting roles, but we've got no one strong enough to actually fight by my side and risk making enemies." Sir System said gloomily.
Fang Ning shook his head and sighed, "It can't be helped, there's only so few that keep up with your fighting skills, as for the only allies we have that are strong enough, it's too risky to let them face Mars' consciousness, they can't resurrect themselves, if they die, they're gone for good. "Then, let's go back. I also hate vampires," Jeanne said. She was an ex-exorcist and she knew how those groups of bloodsuckers would use a human as their livestock. 

"However, I am a bit curious and I am not part of the three factions. I can help you with the negotiation," Yuuki said with a smile. 

"What are you going to do?" Rias asked. She knew that this guy was thinking something bad, but she didn't hate it. 

"First, let us think what is their purpose for coming here? Is it only for Gasper? Or is there something else?" Yuuki said. 

"I have heard that the group of vampires are in war two each other, nyaa," Kuroka said. 

"War? Is that true?" Rias was surprised. 

"I am not sure, nyaa. Well, I have come to Romania with everyone to follow the trace of dragons since Vali wants to fight it, nyaa," Kuroka said. 

"...." They were speechless when they heard the news of that battle maniac wanting to fight a dragon. 

"Wait? Dragon? What do you mean?" Azazel was startled. 

"Let's talk about that later." Yuuki cut Azazel and said, "Then, along the way, you have found out two biggest groups of vampires were at war, right?" 

"Yes, nyaa," Kuroka said.

"I am not going to approve this!" Rias said angrily. She was angry when she thought her family would be used as a tool for a war between vampires.

"Why?" Sona asked calmly. She was the calmest of all of them and could tell there was a high possibility that that thing would really happen. 

"I definitely won't accept this!" Rias said in anger. 

"Rias, calm down. You might not want to accept this, but this might affect your brother's authority," Yuuki said while caressing her back. 

"What? How is it going to affect my older brother?" Rias was surprised. 

"The three factions treaty," Azazel said with a gloomy expression. 

"What? What does this have to do with the three factions treaty?" Issei asked. He had been confused by this conversation since it was too complex for him. 

Yuuki sighed looking at Issei and said, "The three factions that are angel, fallen angel, and the devil have always promoted the peace treaty to other factions of among other's mythology. So far only Norse mythology who is being led by Odin has joined the three factions treaty. However, what if the vampire group is going to join too? With the danger from the Khaos Brigade, the help of vampire group is necessary to make the peace treaty among devil, fallen angel, angel, and Norse mythology will become stronger." 

"But what does this have to do with Sirzech-sama?" Koneko asked.

"But to do that, you might need to give Gasper to the vampire's group," Yuuki said. 

"What?!" Issei was caught in surprise by this statement. "No! I won't let anyone take Gasper!" Even though he wanted to have a harem, he wouldn't sacrifice his junior. 

"Isn't there a way to save Gasper?" Rias asked, looking at Yuuki with a hopeful expression. 

"Of course, there is a way," Yuuki said with smile looking at them. 

Everyone seemed to be relieved when they heard it. 

"How?" Sona asked. 

"It's easy, we're going to join the civil war of the vampire group," Yuuki said.

No one was sure what to say when they heard his proposal. 

"Nyahahahaha." Kuroka laughed loudly when she heard it. 

"Anyway, we won't know until they have come to us. It's better to prepare for the worst, aren't we?" Yuuki said. 

They looked at each other and nodded. They would do anything to save their friends even if they needed to join this civil war.

In the darkness, Lu Shu sat on the stool, watching the Fallen Lizard be consumed by the divine water. During this process, the water was growing rapidly in size.
It was unknown how long the lizard had been trapped here, but the long time had blunted its powers. Otherwise, its defeat would not have been so easy.
The speed of erosion gradually slowed down, as if the Fallen Lizard had mustered all its remaining energy in resistance. Yet, at that instant, the corrosion accelerated again as the resistance faded!

Lu Shu was silent for a long moment. "So you helped it because you were getting impatient?"
Hai Gongzi cast Lu Shu a frosty stare.
"From Ao Hai's distress, +999!"
Lu Shu fought hard against his urge to laugh. My friend, your OCD is incurable…
"Speaking of which, in your world, aren't evil dragons bad? Why did you help it?" Lu Shu asked curiously.
"The internal matters of our Dragon Clan are none of your human beings' business. You call it bad? Is good and bad absolute in this world? Ignorant," Hai Gongzi taunted.
Then Lu Shu understood. The Dragon Clan was a rather close family, and even evil dragons were still dragons, just like distant relatives were still considered relatives…

Now, it seemed inappropriate yet again to call it "the chaos snake", and "Chaos" would be a better name. Things were constantly changing and Lu Shu could never predict what was going to happen next. In order to save the trouble of renaming the snake, it would be better to dwell on an easier name… Lu Shu observed Chaos, whose snake skin was cracking bit by bit, and it had been fast asleep since the reception of the petal.
Lu Shu recalled Chaos to his Seal of Lands for its slow transformation, and he was ready to get out of the cavern.

(Author's Note:  Hi, everyone!  I figured I should try my hand at DanMachi.  Partially because of the upcoming season and movie that will be coming out soon, and partially because there is a D&D campaign I really need to write, but haven't really found the inspiration to finish the story.  Heh.  In either case, I hope that this goes well and that everyone enjoys reading this as much as I will writing it.  I hope you enjoy it!  (Also, please read the author's notes at the end of the story for any side notes I might include or words that may be considered unfamiliar.  Happy reading!)

Chapter One

A Legend and an Old Friend

 Many ages ago, before there was Orario, or even the Tower Babel, which the city was built around; before the gods came down from Heaven and closed off the Dungeon that Babel was meant to seal, there was in the sight of the lesser races the mountain city of Celestia, which is the City of Heaven.  Before the Black Dragon came and defiled (1) Gaia, Heaven and Gaia were intermingled, and the world knew neither war nor death.  But the gods were disquiet, and in their hearts desired to see more than the paradise that all things shared.  And so the gods sought wisdom, and their wisdom turned to pride, and their pride turned to discord.

 From the discord that the gods had between them, they desired to rule over the lesser races and the world.  These races were made by the High God, and were pure in their hearts.  Now the High God made for the lesser races a command that blood be not shed between them, for though they were all of different kindreds, the races were kin in the eyes of the High God.  So some of the gods, who grew evil in their discord, planted a tree that bore golden (2) apples, and deceived the lesser races, claiming that they would become gods as they were and enter into Celestia.  And it was then that the lesser races desired to see the High God and the throne at the top of the Celestial Mountain, and took the apples and ate.

 Thus the discord that planted and watered the tree of the golden apples was planted in the hearts of the lesser races, and blood was shed between them in the sudden hate that they bore between each other.  And so it was that the High God knew of the evil that was done in Gaia, and cursed the gods that rebelled and the blood that stained the world.  From that blood, Gaia opened her mouth, and Sheol (3) was formed in her depths, and the High God commanded Gaia to punish the lesser races for their part in defiling her.  Monsters ever after came from the depths Sheol to drag the children of the lesser races into it.  But, for the gods that rebelled, the High God cast them from the Celestial Mountain, and caused them to become monsters more terrible and fouler than any creature that would ascend from Sheol: dragons; and He sent them far away to the North. (4)  But for the chief rebels of the gods, the High God cursed into the most terrifying of the dragons: the Black Dragon, the Behemoth, and the Leviathan.  Yet, it is said amongst the gods that did not rebel that one other god was cursed, but she, being the most powerful of the rebels, and the planter of the evil tree that marred Gaia was named Enyo Eris: the Golden Serpent, the Dragon of Light, and the Destroyer. (5)

 This is ever our secret shame, for we gods have cursed all races to fight Sheol, the Dungeon, until one is completely destroyed.  And I am sorry, Bell, that you must take part in it.

 It was mid-afternoon and raining in Orario the day an old man, clad in dark grey robes, bearing a silver staff that bore a seven-pointed star as its crown came to city.  He wore a hood upon his head that covered much of the sight of his face, as he gazed ever downward as he moved.  He moved quickly, for an old man, and his white beard that came down to his waist swung side to side, catching the drops of warm rain that graced the city in its summer season.  When he did raise his face, however, he would reveal the astonishing blue eyes that the hood kept hidden from the people of the city.  Any who saw those eyes felt fear, for they seemed to see deep within the hearts, minds, and souls of those who dared.  Yet, he made no act of hostility towards any, despite the fears of those who took the chance to gaze upon his eyes.

 Eventually, his quick paced movements found him in front of a three-story mansion that had a fence of iron around it for protection against possible thieves.  The old man chuckled to himself and lightly touched the iron gate that opened up the way to the front door of the mansion with the star of his staff.  The large gate then trembled and parted open, making a screeching sound before the old man.  He smiled and walked through the gate before touching it in the same manner, and the gate closed behind him.  When he came to the door, which was wooden and embroidered with the image of a bell with flame behind it, however, he merely knocked on the door with the bottom of his staff.

 "Damn it, Bell!" the old man heard beyond the door the voice of what could have been a young woman in her late teens.  "How many times have I told you not to leave your keys here!  What if I wasn't home when you came back from the Dun--"

A short woman, with a childlike face but a rather well-endowed chest burst through the door.  She had blue eyes like the old man did, though her eyes were not quite as bright.  She also had long, jet-black hair that was arranged in twin tail set.

"—geon?" Her eyes widened as she looked up at the old man who completely dwarfed her in height.  "M-Michael?!"

 "Hello, Hestia," the old man smiled kindly.  "It has been a long time, hasn't it?"

 "I… I don't understand!" Hestia cried out nervously.  "What are you doing here, Michael?"

 "Oh?  Am I not allowed to see an old friend?" the old man returned to an unreadable face, his eyes narrowing at Hestia.

 "I know you don't go anywhere to simply see anyone," Hestia frowned as she spoke, though she spoke quietly.  "Michael, what are you doing in the Lower World?"

 "I think you can guess why I'm here, Hestia," Michael chuckled.  "You and the others should very well know why I go anywhere."

 "D-Does anyone else know you're here?" Hestia deepened her frown, fear entering her eyes with every second the old man stood before her.

 "I suspect not," Michael stroked his beard thoughtfully.  "Though I do confess the mortals have taken no love to my presence."

 "Nor would the gods," Hestia sighed and dragged Michael inside the mansion before anyone could see them together.  Quickly, once he was ushered in, she slammed the door shut and locked it. 

"May I make you some tea?"
 
"Ah, yes, that would be quite acceptable," Michael nodded, and Hestia led him to a dining table.  After she disappeared into the kitchen for a few minutes, she came back with a couple of tea cups and a kettle.

 "I'll ask again," Hestia mumbled after she poured the old man his tea and set it in front of him.  "… What are you doing in the Lower World?"
 
"I wonder about that," the old man smiled and took a sip of the tea.  "Does my presence trouble you that much, Hestia?"
 
"More than you could know," Hestia sighed softly as a frown returned to her beautiful face.  "The Captain of the Helen (6) Legion of Celestia is in my home!"
 
"You make me sound rather scary," Michael chuckled.
 
"Only a fool wouldn't be terrified of you," Hestia watched the old man carefully.  "I think we both know you took the form you have now simply to mask what you actually are."
 
"The High God restricted my power and bade me to put on the raiment of the Gaia, as He did to you and the others," Michael smiled before he took another sip of his tea.
 
"But you can go back to the City of Heaven as you wish," Hestia glared at Michael.  "The other gods and I can only return to Celestia if we are slain."
 
"Yes, I may come and go as I please," Michael nodded, "but I still have my limits.  My powers in the Lower World are far more diminished simply because I am not allowed to interfere too much or dominate the wills of the mortals."
 
"And yet you walk through the unseen world," Hestia muttered.  "You have tread Celestia, the physical world, and the spirit realm!  You have no actual limits like I do!"
 
"Ah, now I understand the reason for your bitterness!" Michael nodded.  "You are angry that you can not use more of your powers in order to help your mortals."
 
"If I had your power, the Dungeon would be destroyed," Hestia grumbled.

 "It wouldn't be divine punishment if you and the others destroyed the Dungeon yourselves, would it?" Michael smiled.  "Besides, even if you were given back your powers, it wouldn't be enough to take down Enyo."

 Hestia flinched at the name and looked down in despair, tears welling in her eyes.  "Is… is there really nothing we could have done?"
 
"Zeus and Hera were defeated, and they had more power than any of you so-called 'gods,'" Michael stroked his beard slowly.  "To the Far North, Odin (7) has been struck down by the dragons.  Thor (8) has made his attempt at mounting regroup and defense of (9) Asgard, but he is quickly losing numbers.  The adventures of Asgard need aid from Orario, I imagine."
 
"Orario is not as strong as Asgard!" Hestia frowned.  "Even if we do have an adventurer ranked at level seven, and a few ranked at level six, Orario does not have the number of first-class adventures that Asgard does!"
 
"Even if that is true, Asgard does not have much of a choice," Michael argued calmly.  "Orario has the numbers that Asgard needs."
 
"So, ask Ares!" Hestia cried.  "He has more than enough soldiers to hold the dragons back!"
 
"Enough soldiers, yes," Michael nodded.  "But, none of those soldiers are powerful enough to contain those dragons.  You know what they actually are.  Not even the Dungeon has such power inside it, with the exception of Enyo."

 "The Dungeon has enough power to overrun the world if its seal were ever broken," Hestia mumbled with despair.  "The dragons of the far North are powerful, I agree, but they are few in number."

 "And the Ancient Dragons, those fallen gods, are fewer," Michael said bluntly.  "Yet, they will still be an unstoppable force against forces of Asgard and all the world if they are not stopped.  If they reach Orario, their power will break the seal of the Dungeon regardless if Enyo reveals herself or not.  Their forces combined?  Only the intervention of the High God would stop their wrath."

 "Then why not petition Celestia?" Hestia trembled under Michael's gaze.

 "Those still in Heaven?" Michael stroked his beard.  "I imagine your kin loves their excitement too much to lift their fingers to save the Lower World.  Still, the Legions of the High God have been watching carefully."
 
"But you won't do anything," Hestia's heart sank as she trembled even more.  But Michael simply smiled at the beautiful goddess.

 "I'm doing something now," Michael replied before taking a sip of his tea.  "I'm warning my friend.  Let not your heart be troubled.  It is not your Familia I will be directing to Asgard."

 Hestia felt tremendous relief when she heard those words.  Bell would not have to fight a futile war against an enemy that rivaled the gods in raw power.  Yet, she still felt fear in bottom of her heart.  Seeing Michael only meant that doom would come shortly after, and that doom often meant death.  When he was not presiding over the Helen Legion, he traveled the spirit realm to collect the dead.  When he was not collecting the dead, and he most often was, he would show himself to mortals to warn of coming disasters.  Always Michael would disappear almost as soon as he would appear, and always would that disaster come and mortals would have no memory of him.  But the gods remembered, and feared his wanderings more than all monsters of world combined.
 
When Hestia was a young goddess, and still dwelt in Celestia, she would see Michael to hear of the stories of his travels and those of mortals.  She always loved his adventures and hoped that she could one day form a Familia to share the stories of their adventures with him.  Even though her Familia had done wonders already, it was still small and she thought she couldn't yet compare to the stories Michael brought to her.  Mortals fascinated her, and she had grown to love them through Michael's stories.  But Bell she fell in love with, and she refused to lose him to the doom that followed Michael's footsteps.
 
"Michael," Hestia started slowly, "why did you come see me first if you were going to find a different Familia to go to Asgard?"

 "Why?" Michael echoed.  He smiled mysteriously before standing from the chair.  He gripped his staff and it seemed to Hestia that the room grew darker as he grew taller.  But, when he reached his full height, the light came back to the room as quickly as it had fled.  "My dear Hestia, you are the Lady of Hearth and Home.  If the mortals cannot depend upon you for rest and warmth in the days ahead, then their doom shall be cold, lonely, and bitter."
 
And after his words passed his lips, he tapped the end of his staff upon the floor and vanished from Hestia's sight.  Slowly, the goddess slipped from her chair and sank to her knees.  Tears formed in her eyes as she clenched her fists on the floor.

"No….  Don't take him," she whispered to the now lonely room.  "Don't take Bell away from me."

1.  Gaia: In Greek mythology, Gaia was mother of the Titans and grandmother of the Greek gods.  She is also called "Mother Earth."

2. a.  The Golden Apples: In Greek mythology, the "golden apple" was a fruit made by the Greek gods (Eris, in particular) and protected by a multiheaded dragon known as the Hydra.  Hercules defeated this monster and obtained the apple as one of his quests for the atonement of slaughtering his family.  Later, this apple was used by Eris in order to start a chain of events that led to the Trojan War.
b.  In Judeo-Christian text, the "forbidden fruit" was the instrument by which humanity was cut off from God/paradise.  Interestingly enough, the ancient Hebraic word for "apple" and the word for "evil" were similar.

3. Sheol: A Hebrew word for "the grave."  Sheol is believed to be where souls go after death.  Even though the word is also known to mean "the abyss," Sheol is more related to the Roman Catholic concept of "Purgatory," otherwise known as a "limbo."  When the Hebrew Bible was translated into Greek after Alexander's conquest of the ancient world, Sheol became the word "Hades."  While Hades also means "the grave," or, "land of the dead," it took on the more fearful meaning of the word "hell," or "prison."

4. In Judeo-Christian text, "the North" was where Satan made his throne in the world.  The text suggests that it was in the furthest north of the world.  The text also highly suggests that Satan was draconic in appearance, some text often associating him with the Leviathan, calling him a "sea serpent."  In this text, of course, Satan is painted as having the desire to rule over the world out of sheer envy.

5. a.  Enyo Eris:  Enyo and Eris are two different goddesses in Greek mythology but are of a similar domain.  The two were part of a group of three that were all ruling over the domain of war, the third being the Greek god "Victor."  Eris was considered the goddess of discord, and Enyo was simply a goddess of war.  While it is obvious what Victor was associated with, Eris and Enyo were slightly more obscure.  Eris did not require war as part of her primary domain, but anything that would require people at odds with one another, meaning she delighted in any form of chaos.  Enyo, however, wanted war for the sake of war.  Her delight was in bloodshed and the ruin of all things.  In theory, while Eris was certainly the more cunning and manipulative, Enyo was clearly the crueler and eviler.  While, of course, Victor was associated with war as his primary domain, it could be said that order was his true domain through "survival of the fittest."  This idea also applies to the concept of "peace through strength," as achieving peace was victory in and of itself.
b.  In Judeo-Christian text, Satan is referred to as an angel of light, ("Lucifer" being the Hebraic word for the meaning,) a devourer, and "the destroyer."  However, unlike Enyo of Greek mythology, Satan delights in the destruction of all things through manipulation rather than destroying everything simply because it is there.  It is interesting to note, however, that Hebraic text paints Satan, when calling him the "devil," as a kind of prosecuting attorney, wanting the destruction of souls by naming off evil deeds.

6. "Helen" is the Greek word for "Greek."  In Judeo-Christian text, the angel, Michael, was referred to as a supernatural military leader who was the assigned spiritual steward-regent over Greece.

7. Odin is the king of the Norse gods.  According to Norse mythology, he sacrificed one of his eyes to obtain knowledge and wisdom.  He got what he wanted, but he also received the knowledge that the Norse gods (and the world) were doomed die at the hands of the evil Frost Giants.  Odin is associated with ravens, one of the wisest of birds.

8. Thor is the son of Odin in Norse mythology.  He was the wielder of the divine hammer, Mjöllnir, which is the most feared weapon in Norse mythology.  Thor and his hammer are associated with thunder.

9. "Asgard," in Norse mythology, is the city of the Norse gods.  It is also the highest branch of Yggdrasil, "The World Tree," which separates the cosmos into nine realms.  From Asgard, Odin could see all of the activities of the nine realms.

Orario is not the only city to stand facing the threat of monsters.  To the far North, the ancient city of Asgard stands vigil over the Dragon Valley, home of powerful monsters like that in the Dungeon itself.  With the death of Odin, and the destruction of the Odin Familia, certain powers both within the Lower World and outside the Lower World are moving.  And in the center of it all, Bell Cranel must become the hero he has always dreamed to be.
