Volume I of the Holy Akashic Conqueror, Rise of the Empire is finally done. So what will I say to this, I have started writing this story as nothing serious at start, one fated evening on the 21st November 2018.

It was after I have finished reading fan-fic Reincarnation Paradise I was inspired to write fan-fic about Tokyo Ghoul. Originally I wanted to write only about Tokyo Ghoul world, but alas I had too many ideas and plans, former novels I have written and all things. Now I have created the giant-like multiversal world. :D

Personally, I have never imagined I would create something so big, as my initial plans were many times smaller. 

So the first thing I wanna say Is that I thank you for your support, ideas and help during these 9 months. It was very fun writing this and still is. I have still many things to improve and do in my novel, so please bear with me. (Especially that romance, I am terrible at that :D)

Hi! For my QI readers, I realised that you didn't get to read how I started writing Spirit Immortal. So below is a short description of myself!


Background about myself and inspirations for writing Spirit Immortal
Currently, I am a university undergraduate, and I have been reading fiction for years. I first got into reading fiction because of anime. Initially, I was a pure anime/manga fan. But I then found out about the existence of light novels. Light novels were far ahead from the existing anime, so I started to binge read translated volumes on Baka-Tsuki. It became somewhat of a drug to me. I kept reading and eventually, fictions had become part of my daily life. However, everything changed when the Yen Press attacked… Suddenly, many of my favourite novels disappeared, and less and less light novel translations surfaced. 

Finding myself in a severe deficit of fictions to read, I found something called Novelupdates. Every few minutes, there was a new novel chapter being released. I was overjoyed. Finally, I was able to satisfy my daily fiction needs. That was how I got into wuxia/xianxia novels. Being ethnically Chinese and fluent in both English and Chinese, there was a great allure for me in these stories. When I was younger, I would frequently watch The Legend of the Condor Heroes and many what we call "wuxia xiaoshuo." So seeing that the traditional stories blend with modern themes was somewhat shocking to me. To think that such a part of the internet existed!

So I started reading a lot of wuxia/xianxia stories. I remember the early days of Coiling Dragon and Stellar Transformations. The friendly competition between Gravitytales and Wuxiaworld. But one day, I encountered Doulou Dalu. For those who have not noticed, Spirit Immortal's cultivation system is inspired by this very novel. The reason being, it was the only cultivation system that I could actually follow. It's a very simplistic system, rank 1-100. The other Wuxia novels cultivation systems confused the heck out of me. However, worry not, Spirit Immortal is not a fanfiction of Doulou Dalu. In fact, other than the cultivation levels, they are nothing alike.

For a while, Doulou Dalu was my favourite novel. To a certain extent, it still is my favourite translated wuxia/xianxia novel. But I started feeling bored. Every single book that I read followed the same format. And after many disappointing stories, I thought to myself… Hey, I could just write something I like!

Thus, the idea of Spirit Immortal started germinating in my mind. It took me over five months to finish plotting the major arcs, characters and finally the ending before I started typing my first word. Majority of the reason why it took so long for me to start writing this story is because of my procrastination and school. Additionally, I didn't know if the story was going to be well received. But eventually, I steeled my mind and said: "Whatever, as long as I am satisfied with the story, who cares?"

So yeah, currently the number one fan of Spirit Immortal is myself, and I can't wait to put the entire story I have in my head into words for all of you to read. It will take time though, so do stick around!


Issues I have had when writing Book Two
I have realised that many of you were unsatisfied with the pace of the story, saying that it is too slow and whatnot. And guess what, I agree! I have been putting the character and world development at the forefront of my story thus slowing down the story progression, However, fret not, now that the first two books are completed, the story progression would begin to expedite as I believe that I have sufficiently developed my characters!

I'm trying to be more descriptive in my writing but that is still a work in progress. Perhaps it would be the greatest hurdle for me but rest assured, I will try my best!

Another major issue I had was time management. I started writing Spirit Immortal during my semester break where I had plenty of time. I even managed to complete Book 1 during that break itself! However, once school started, I had to figure out a way to balance work, personal life and writing Spirit Immortal. There were some days where I only had three hours to efficiently write, proofread and edit my chapter before I deemed it ready to be published. Hence, there might be times where my writing quality dropped slightly but I'm trying my best to ensure that I retain and even improve on my writing quality, so please be patient with me on that one.


Future of Spirit Immortal
Once my semester break hits once more, I will be sitting myself down in order to write as many chapters as I can. Perhaps, eventually, I will take the road of creating a ******* account to allow you guys to read advance chapters and at the same time, give myself some funding to weather through the school days. 

So yeah, I can't thank you guys enough for continuing to stick with me as I continue to write Spirit Immortal. I hope that I will be able to deliver the satisfying fiction that I have conjured up and brought you as much enjoyment as I had in writing this story!

"Man I really need some action in my life!" Val said towards the sky.
Val Luna, male 19 years old. Live in a small apartment for 2 years since his parents kicked him out for not having a good grade in school.
'Growl'
"I know, I know ill get you some food buddy," Val said rubbing his tummy.
Arriving at a convenience store, Val bought some cup noodles and a drink.
"That will be $2.75." Said the store clerk.
"Here you go," Val said handing a 10$ note.
While waiting for his change, a Christmas card caught his eye. The card didn't seem much, it's just like any other Christmas card you would spot in a shop. The card was red with a Christmas tree in the middle of it. Though that's not what caught Val's eyes. Underneath the tree, there was some writing. The writing says, 'Do you wish for adventure in a new world?' This obviously shouldn't be something written under Christmas card, yet it was there.
"Here's your change sir." The clerk said snapping Val out of his mind.
Usually, Val would not buy something like this, but something kept on telling him he should. So he bought it.
Back at his apartment. Val boiled some hot water for his cup noodle. While waiting for the water to finish boiling, Val kept looking at the Christmas card that he bought.
Opening the card up, there's nothing besides a white canvas.
"Well since I bought it might as well use it, though Christmas wouldn't be here until 2 more months."
"Since it's a Christmas card let's send it to Santa, though I stopped believing in Santa when I was 3 when I didn't receive the gift that I wrote to him about wanting a Summoning System that allows me to Summon characters and item from my favorite anime and games, then again it could also probably be because my mom and dad just said Santa isn't real and I should just go to my room and study."
"Well, whatever might as well make one last wish for the fun of it."
Grabbing a pen Val wrote what he wanted.
After about 5 minutes Val finished writing what he wanted.
"Seems good, let's read it out so there's no mistake. not like anyone else is reading this."
"Dear Santa,
it's me Val, the person that wished for a cool Summoning System 16 years ago from you, and to this day I have not received it. After that day I have stopped believing in you, yet it's funny that I'm writing another for you even though I have stopped believing in you. But as I'm a forgiving person I shall trust you once more and this time I wish for a journey. A journey in a new life. I hope you can fulfill this wish.
Love, Vale Luna."
"Now then address, since Santa is depicted to live in the North Pole let's just put that."
'Kettle Sound'  (A/N: I don't know how to write hot water boiling sound)
Pouring the hot water in the cup noodle, Val waited a few minutes before eating to let it cool a bit.
'Let's go put this in the mail since I'm waiting for either way.'
Walking to the nearest post office box Val dropped the card and walked back home.
[Next Day]
Waking up Val sees that he's no longer in his room.
"Uh...What the?" Looking around all Val can see is big lushes of tree and vines surrounding him.
"I don't think I'm dreaming and it doesn't seem like I'm high on drugs." Val continues talking to himself while looking around.
[Beep]
[Welcome Host to The World of Velfom]
"Beep? Host? Seems like I have transmigrated." Val said calmly.
[Host is correct]
"Was the letter the reason I arrive in this new world?" Val asks the System.
[Host is smart indeed, Host is correct, thanks to the letter you sent to Santa. He has granted you the wish.]
"*Sigh* Well this is troublesome isn't it then."
[What is troubling you Host?]
"This, like the whole thing! If I had known the letter was true then I would also have asked for some Godly power so I can live! But since I only said that I wanted to explore a new world, I have no actual way of even surviving!" Val said in an outburst.
[Do not worry Host, you have me!]
"I see, are your functions the same as the other System?" Val asks.
[Please be more specific Host]
"I meant like inventory, shop, quest, etc. Those kinds."
[Host is Correct, however, everything is locked besides three functions.]
"Tch, of course, they are locked, anyway then what are the three functions? Val asks.
[Status, Quest, and Summons.]
"Wait...Did you just say Summons?" Val asks as his voice grew in excitement.
[Yes Host, I said Summons.]
"But how? I only ask for a new world and now that I think about it I never ask for a System!" Val said as his realization of the System.
[Would Host like to read the message left by Santa?]
"Message? Go on."
[Hello boy, it's me Santa. But you probably already know that but anyway I'm here to tell you about your wish. I have seen your letter and it does hurt me a bit from seeing you say that you don't believe in me. Sad news aside since I have seen your letter I decided to grant it to you along with the System you asked for 16 years ago, and if you wondering why I'm granting your wish, let's just say fate decree so. Hope you enjoy your new life and your System.

Hearing that Santa had granted his wish including his Summoning System Val could not help but yelp in joy, jumping around and praising Santa.

"Kind of sad being compared to those Chinese XianXa noble but whatever, also what is the class section all about?
[Class can either be obtained from the Summon Section of the System or Host becoming said Job. The classes can range from Janitor to Dragon Slayer. Each class has its own perks and weakness. For example, becoming the class Dragon Slayer Host will receive some Dragon Slaying Skills, of course, that is only if you buy it from the System shop. If Host were to actually obtained the class from slaying a Dragon then Host must come up with the skills himself, but Host can also buy the skills if Host is lazy to make up any skills.]
"I see that's pretty interesting, then let's get to the main question. Do I have a beginner gift of some sort? And if so, use it."

[Sypnosis]
Wishing for some action in his boring life, Val wrote a letter to Santa (North Pole) wishing to go to a new world with a Summoning System to accompany him.

Val didn't think about it too much as he did it as a joke, but his joke seems to have come true.

Waking up the next day, Val had woken up in a new world in the jungle with his Summoning System.

Note: The summoning system is a anime/gaming system, so like other summoning systems he can get items and characters from them from the anime and gamingverse.

At 5 PM Feng and Chen reached their rented house . They had bought food from the nearby restaurant as they were tired to cook the food.  


They ate the food. Chen took bathe and entered her room for sleep after managing everything . 


Feng also leaned on the bed after washing himself. The house was with two floors . So they had private room for themselves . 


Feng started to wonder about how to make his family life easier as it needed large amount of money . He could do good without System . But he wanted to make his close ones life better . 


He wanted to help Chen fulfil her dream . For that he needed money . Being namely the son from Ye Family , he knew better about himself . He needed to earn money by himself .


For earning money , he wasn't stupid so he had many idea but executing such idea needed money . He couldn't just start assassinating people of this world without knowing how the world works or who are good or bad people . 

Even more he didn't wanted to use such means . Other simple means was to use his skill as a doctor to cure patients but he knew nothing about how this world medical system worked currently . 

Beside this he could use his previous world knowledge to write songs or movies or others . Movies writing was one of the option but he rejected songs writing as he didn't know much Chinese songs . Movies writing was also cancelled as new writers story wasn't accepted for large amount . 


He finally decreased the list to three option .
1.Creating Games
2.Drawing Comics/Manga/Manhua....
3.Writing Stories/Novel.....

As a art student he felt that second option was the best for him . He started to choose from the list he has thought on his mind after researching about the current world condition . 


He was thinking about creating globally famous 'Death Note' on this world but decided to go with 'Doraemon' as it was much easy to draw . Mainly because Fatty Feng Proficiency wasn't good at the present moment . 

Feng didn't want to use the System to purchase 'Art Skill Fragment' as he was confident in raising the skill by himself even though he didn't draw much in his past life .

Feng now needed a Laptop for drawing the manga . He used to stream his gameplay from his phone .


Feng wanted to get best out of everything so he decided to live stream himself drawing . He knew the income from it would be low but money is still money .  


After making up his mind , he wanted to practice inner-force but decided against it as he was too tired dragging his overweighted body . 

He slept early . He woke up exactly at 4 in the morning . It was his habit for practicing . He went out for a run .

Almost for an hour , there were only countable people on the run . Then more people started to appear . 

Feng was only able to run about 6-7 KM in 2.5 hour resting on the way . He reached the house did some stretching and entered . 

He directly went to bathroom . He was too tired and there was sore muscle . 

While bathing he entered System and was surprised to find a  notification .

But here's the news:

Webnovels

Webnovels are a subset of contemporary Chinese literature published exclusively through Internet platforms. Think ArchiveOfOurOwn but not free, and for original content. My extremely subjective view of them is that they are generally speaking, terrible pulp fiction mostly written for emotional satisfaction rather than because the author is chasing the Nobel Prize for literature. However, I don't mean to demean them because they're the exact type of stuff from which really good shit will emerge, so I've been eyeing them from a safe distance for a while. They're basically the combination of what YA novels and shitty romance novels and Dan Brown books and stuff are to English readers - utter shite, but also an important part of the ecosystem.

While online publishing exists in the west, it's not nearly a big of a deal as it is in China. A very large portion of the top IPs mainland Chinese people consume originated from webnovels - Mo Dao Zu Shi is one that I know has some recognition on Reddit. Off topic but is it a coincidence that webnovels, the the most loosely-regulated medium available to most people, is also the most popular? Worth thinking about isn't it. Unfortunately the webnovel community had also suffered some intense state-run censorship over the past two years which has greatly reduced creative freedom (ie. many no longer dare to describe any physical contact between characters in fear of being reported as pornography, no kidding).

Webnovel authors rely on a few large platforms for publication and readership. Without getting too specific: readers purchase works they like through the platform, and the platform gives a portion of the income generated by a novel to the creator. This system works - many authors depend on it for a living, others use it as a side hustle or write for fun.

Fucking Tencent enters the game

A few days ago, Tencent, which owns one of the two major webnovel platforms (and holds 50% of shares in the other one), updated their contract for authors. Some of the changes are as follows:

All copyright of any given work now belongs to Tencent, until 50 years after the author's death. Tencent can do whatever the fuck they want with it without having to negotiate anything with the author.

Legal fees caused by copyright disputes will still be entirely paid by the author, not Tencent.

Tencent can release any work on the platform for free.

Tencent has the right to any social media accounts of the author.

Tencent is not obligated to provide authors with any employee benefits.

Upon signing the contract the author is obligated to provide an exact schedule for how and when a work will be completed. Failure to following the schedule will be seen as breaking the contract, to which Tencent can respond by not distributing benefits to the author, or requiring the author to take responsibility for losses incurred.

Why this means fucking Tencent is about to ruin everything

As you can see, this is basically a slave contract. It will completely re-shape the existing Internet literature landscape - authors lose all rights to everything and Tencent gets a free IP farm. Tencent can adapt your work in any way they like. If Tencent doesn't like you, they can kick you off and give your penname and social media handles to someone else. Tencent can change your work any way you want, without your permission. Tencent doesn't even need to pay you, in fact you might wind up paying Tencent. While the most famous authors will be temporarily unscathed, everyone else will probably lose any income they receive from writing.

This all happened a few days ago, and the community is in chaos. The most commonly reposted comment is that authors have been collectively reduced to a bunch of ghostwriters. Some of the most successful authors have made long posts on social media denouncing the whole thing, while many others stayed conspicuously quiet. A very popular book "Gui Mi Zhi Zhu" (Lord of the Unknown? something like that) that updated periodically for years suddenly concluded yesterday with an ending many readers found disappointing, likely in low-key protest against the change.
Even worse, numerous less-famous authors who are well-aware that they aren't popular enough for Tencent to feel the need to financially compensate them properly have announced they will just stop writing entirely.

In the long term since Tencent, a profit-incentivised megacorp has complete creative control over so many works, a sharp decline in the quality of popular media available in simplified Chinese is inevitable - everything from adding lowbrow fanservice to completely altering the themes of a book will likely happen, based on Tencent's track record. It's a truly horrifying prospect for Chinese-only readers who had little high-tier pulp to consume in the first place. Someone posted: "Censorship by the socialist regime killed Internet literature, and now capitalists are here to eat its corpse," very edgy but pretty accurate in my opinion.

While saying that this will "destroy" Internet literature in mainland China might be an overstatement right now, it's another clear step towards the medium's demise because the other webnovel platforms are likely to follow Tencent's footsteps if this implementation turns out to be profitable. I've never felt more sympathy for my friends who aren't bilingual, they'll be stuck with shittier and shittier IPs until the whole thing collapses.

Why isn't anything being done about all this?

Because there's little anyone can do. Tencent famously possesses "the most power legal department in China", a lawsuit will go nowhere if not bite you in the ass. Organised protests and labour unions of any form are illegal in China. Ironically enough, most of this happened on Labour Day.
Not using the platform this happened to is an option that many are taking, but no one knows if it will be effective since only users who actually care will participate.

Conspiracy theory time

Archive Of Our Own, the free fanfiction platform, was banned in China around a month ago due to idol fandom squabbles (there are good posts covering it on this sub). Could Tencent have been behind that, since AO3 is non-profit and actually endorses creative freedom?
