"I should probably raise the attributes of my purple cards right? I'll spend more of my resources on it then."
Everyone managed to draw a purple card, and swapped it into their strategy full of happiness.
Chen Mo had such a big smile on his face that he couldn't say anything.
In reality, these have been decided beforehand. The first ten draws guaranteed a decent purple character card. It didn't matter how lucky or unlucky you were.
However, subsequent ten draws would definitely be lucked based. Although there was a certain guarantee for purple cards, it was possible to draw Ambasador, Baron Rivendare, The Mayor, or other purple monster cards which didn't have too much value in raising.
However, once you do a certain amount of draw tens, a rare card must appear, such as Cannon Lady, or Nosuke Shinsuke.

Afterwards, the amount of runes players will get will decrease, and the probabilities will return to normal in order for the cards to retain their values. If the players wanted better cards they'd have to top-up.
For the rich, there must be certain guarantees in place to make sure that every penny they spent would be worth it to prevent them from feeling cheated.
This was a hidden specification among Chinese card games. Of course were more headstrong and wouldn't do that, such as Onmyoji.
Onmyoji didn't have any guarantees in place, therefore the ability to draw SSR would be entirely up to luck. This led to account selling in the early stages of the game, amongst many other problems.
Of course, as Onmyoji was already really high quality, it had the rights to do so. Chen Mo's current 3D art skill was still lacking compared to Onmyoji, therefore he didn't dare be as headstrong as Onmyoji when making I Am MT.
Jia Peng had hadded Brick into his team.
The monsters in the dungeon did not stand a chance against Brick's Blizzard. He progressed through the dungeons swiftly with the help of the others in his team.
"This feels great!"
Jia Peng won one battle after another, and every time he beat one he would receive some rewards as well as chests, task rewards and achievements. When he got stuck, he would redeem the rewards and level up his cards. Afterwards he would continue going through the levels...

This combination of events would allow players to feel a great sense of satisfaction and allow the players to recognise the value of the in game currencies.
With the satisfaction and recognising the value of the currency, it would allow the player to continue playing on the second day, chasing for another good card.
The IP's function in card games was most important in the first step, attracting the players. The better the IP, the more players it attracts, the more loyal they are, the more players the game will get.
As the numbers go up, profit naturally went up.
However, could the IP decide the fate of a card game? Not necessarily.
Under a circumstance with about the same attractiveness, the profit deciding second day retention, long term retention, and average spendage are all based on the quality of the game, where the IPs don't add much to it.
Many would say that the IP was very important to the game, and would be the point of comparison to other games. What they mean was that it would be easier to differentiate yourself among the ocean of other mobile card games with an IP.
What if the card game was compared to other mobile games? In reality, without the IP, card games would still come out on top.
At the later stages of mobile card games, it eventually devolves into an AFK quest completing game, as the playstyle of the game would no longer be sufficient to keep the players' interest, and could practically be ignored. However, with the numerical stimulus, luck based card drawing, and virtual currency makes it difficult for the player to detach themselves from the game in fear of losing it, which in turn keeps the player in the game.

Bored out of my mind, I mindlessly scrolled through my phone in search of something to entertain myself.

It's been a month since the beginning of quarantine and I have long run out of things to waste my time on. Tv shows? Went through most of those worth watching. Books? Already read through those that I didn't find annoying. 

As the last resort, I turned my attention to the App Store. In no way was I a huge fan of mobile games but desperate times call for desperate measures. 

First things first, I dealt with a few apps that for whatever reason didn't want to update automatically and switched over to the games tab.

Scrolling down, I soon ran into the 'New Games We Love' section, and oddly enough, instead of the usual longwinded list of second rate time wasters, the section was empty save for a single game.

"MonstersAR," I read aloud. "Is this some sort of bug?"

Curious, I clicked on the lonely icon to find out more about the game, and quite frankly, I was disappointed. According to the introductory video and the description, augmented reality monster battles were the main theme and it seemed to be just another ripoff of PokemonGo. Though it did deserve some praise for the art quality, as most of the monsters in the video looked uncannily realistic.

Seeing as it was free and I had nothing better to do, I clicked install. Won't hurt to find out if the game matched with the hyped-up introduction. 

It took about a minute for the game to load and without wasting any more time, I started it up.

The first thing that showed up was some bold white text on a black background that read, "God Inc. presents, 'Monsters: Actualized Reality'"

"God Inc.? Actualized Reality? What are these guys trying to pull?" I questioned, taking a sip of beer to moisten my throat.

Soon, the game finished loading and I was presented with the usual registration process. Not willing to waste more time than necessary, I put in my actual age, 25, and chose Adam as the game id. After accepting the terms and conditions without even bothering to read through them, I was finally led to the actual game.

Unfortunately, most of the functions in the game menu were greyed out and a blinking arrow insisted that I click on what seemed to be a mailbox. Following the obvious instructions, I clicked on where I was told to and was promptly presented with a letter titled "'Newcomer's Gift'.

Opening the letter, I skipped through the paragraph-long welcome from the game producers and clicked 'claim', earning myself a size-able list of gifts:

Next, the arrow directed me to my inventory, and this time, I received a line of instructions, "What kind of Monster Trainer are you without an actual tamed monster to your name? Use the Summoning card to receive your first monster."

Getting the hint, I tapped on the Summoning card and was automatically transferred to the Summoning Chambers tab. Reading through the tedious description that could be summed up to using the card to get a single Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, or Legendary level 1 monster. With drop rating depending on the strength of the monsters, the rankings become pretty self-explanatory.

After tapping on the 'Begin Summoning x1' button, my phone's screen lit up with a rainbow of colors that converged into a golden framed card. It depicted a white tiled floor with a humanoid shadow stretching across the surface. The only defining feature of the shadow was a menacing crown worn on its head.

"So my monster is some sort of crowned shadow?" I mumbled absentmindedly.

Tapping on the card, it flipped over and displayed the monster's description on the back:

"A legendary on the first draw?" I said, growing a tad interesting.

Done with the description, I closed down the card and another line of instructions appeared, "Great! Now that you have your first monster, let's get him settled into your team."

After I tapped continue, I was forwarded to the Monster Barracks section. It had two tabs: Storage and Team.

Following the arrows instructions, I moved King Sombra from the unlimited Storage into the Team tab, which only had 6 slots. Apparently, only the monsters kept in the Team tab can be used for battles and I only have a single chance per day to switch the monsters between the Storage and Team tabs.

After dumping all that information on me, I received further instructions, "Amazing! Now that your team is geared up and ready to go, you can try invoking your monster." 

Choosing to continue, I was asked to give 'MonsterAR' access to my Camera. After accepting, my display switched to the camera view, with an overlaid picture of a red pentagram.

Next, I was asked to stabilize my phone to align the pentagram with my floor. It took a bit of fiddling around but soon enough, the pentagram turned green and with that, a line of text was added to the overlay, "Wonderful job! Now to invoke your monster, simply repeat the phrase: 'King Sombra, I invoke thee!'"

"Voice control?" I wondered and cleared my throat. "King Sombra, I invoke thee!" 

"What the!?" I stumbled back as the overlay in my camera display began to project itself into reality. Line by line, symbol by symbol, something was etched onto my carpet by an invisible force. It took mere moments until it was complete.

For a second nothing really happened as I stood staring at the glowing green pentagram in the middle of my apartment. Though the moment of peace quickly come to a close as shadowy tendrils escaped from the confines of the pentagram. Silently, they stretched along one of my walls, slithering all the way up to the ceiling and soon transformed into a disproportionate humanoid silhouette made of pure shadows, with a crown of undulated darkness adorning its head. Sticking to hard surfaces, It loomed menacingly over my modest frame.

Having to face a monster straight out of some grim fairy tale, I was left completely out of my element. My brain worked in overtime and seeing that the monster wasn't in rush to turn me into a midnight snack, I chanced a peek at my phone. 

The blasted piece of technology was at fault for my current predicament and my only hope now is that it deigns to provide me with a way to survive.

A new line of text appeared on the screen, "Amazing! Now try commanding your monster to use a skill by calling its name."

I gulped. Commanding this monstrosity? Is this thing seeking my death!?

Though not seeing any other alternatives, I resigned myself to do as instructed. Parsing through my memory, I stopped my choice on one of the more harmless skills in the deadly repertoire of my monster.

"Shadowmeld," I said firmly, my nerves as taut as a string.

The motionless giant finally moved and for a moment there, I thought that it will finish me off for daring to open my mouth. Fortunately, that moment soon came to pass, and faster than my eyes could follow, Sombra's form split up into tendrils of darkness that seamlessly merged into my shadow.

For about a minute, I stood petrified, not daring to move a muscle. The pentagram has long disappeared and without a sign of the monster in sight, I was seemingly once again all alone in my lovely apartment.

Feeling as my tense nerves began to loosen up, I tentatively turned my head to take a glance at my shadow.

"You still there?" I asked the empty air.

My shadow enlarged and wriggled a little in response.

"Well, F..." I promtly cut myself off, just in case the shadow finds my cussing offensive.

When Adam stumbled upon an unassuming game in the App Store, he didn’t expect that it will completely overthrow his understanding of reality. MonsterAR seemed to be just your average game - taming monsters and using them for duels, nothing out of the average. Though when said monsters escape the confines of your screen and start appearing all around the globe, that is when you truly start questioning your life. Anyway, here is info dump 2, mostly about the system and not Yu-Gi-Oh itself. No spoilers will be made here so feel free to read first.

So the monster cards, to start it off. If you have read already, you will realise that some cards got Nerfed like crazy, while others are better than before. This is all because of the simple fact that the game and the world are not the same. I will try my best to keep the cards core effects and functions as similar as possible, but I can't just make it over powered.

Summons, aka Monster Cards. 
Monster cards from lv 1 to 4 can be summoned and put back into the deck whenever as long a card does not have specific conditions written on it. This stops once a card goes beyond level 5. For it requires Tributes to summon it, once it is summoned, the tributes monster is considered dead and is in the graveyard. 

What does this mean? simple, it means that if you want to take the summoned monster back into a card form, you will have to tribute another monster if you want to summon it again. This is to make it so that he can't just abuse it. Same goes for cards from the extra deck.

Next up ATK and DEF, I had to think about these two quite a bit and decided to make attack and DEF the abilities of the said monster card, whichever is higher will count as its body strength. Here is an Example.

Gogogo Giant has 2000 ATK and 0 DEF.
This means it's body's strength is at 2000 and is very strong when attacking, but I can't defend for shit. See it from a games point of few, The DEF is the armor of the card, without any armor it will take true damage, no matter how high the HP, it will still take true damage. 

So you can count the highest Number as the 'HP/Body Strength' and whether it is ATK or DEF, it depends on how much damage it can deal or how much it can negate.

Spell cards, Spell cards can not on influence the monster cards, but the world and its inhabitants itself. For example and equip spell card that that Grant's 500 ATK, like a pendant, it can be used by the worlds inhabitants and it will strengthen their body and they attacking capabilities, other equip spells that come in the form of swords, guns and other armaments will have different effects depending on what it is. All will be explained later. 

Field spells will influence the world for a limited amount of time, am still debating on having it for 10 days or a month for its effect to stay. I don't think it should be permanent unless a card specifies otherwise.

Trap cards are the same as spells, they influence the world, a good example is Mirror Force, it will be heavily nerfed as it will otherwise straight up kill all attackers and we don't want that. There are many other cards with unique effects that I will have to think about once I get them from the draw.

So anything after XYZ will not be added. Such as pendulum and other mechanics that may have been out now.

Dual Academy the place where the best dulest in world are born and where the othes who can't make have their finnal stand. Karin stood on the boat for good 10 minutes just takeing in sight of his new home.  After that he made his way to the main building to hear the speech  and get his dorm number.

The speech was  nothing really special is what Karin thought after that he and pulled out P.D.A and check for dorm room. When he was done he looked up and the former main character of the series siting with his sidekick. Karin decided to go introduce himself to them walking to them Karin said "Jaden right? the gut who beat Crowler".  "That right Jaden Yuki the next king of games who are you" Jaden said with his typical cocky smile.  "Karin Ishtar and I am  the next king of games is me" Karin said as he walked away.

Karin walked away from Jaden thinking about how this guy was going to save the world. After walking for while he got to his dorm and got up to his room. He checked his watch and saw that he had about one hour before the welcome part was going to start so he decided to take a shower before hand. He walked out of the shower and decided to call home to tell his mom that he was ok. The phone rang twice "Hello Karin is everything all right" he heard his mothers voice on the other end of the call. 

"I'm fine mom just calling to tell that and make sure your alright" Karin said as stared to get dressed. "It all right here and little sis misses you she won't stop crying till she fell asleep" his mother said. Karin had weak smile on his face as he said "I'm sorry about that I call tomrrow so I can talk to her". "That's good to hear so tell me did meet someone today" his mom asked. "By someone do you mean a girl" Karin said. "Mabey just want to know if my baby boy in gornwing up" she said. "I may have met someone but it to soon to say" Karin said. "Alright I have to go now your father is coming in and we have plans" his mother said. "O-K bye love you" Karin said as he hung up the phone after that he took a look at himself.

After making sure that he looked alright and turned around and head to yard behind the dorm to where the welcome dinner was being held. He walked outside and saw that the party was in full swing people where talking and eating all around the lake. He looked to try to find the girl that still owns him a dance after looking around he saw her. She was standing with her friends she had not notice him yet. He walked up from behind her making sure that she did not see him. "Hey I believe that you still own me a dance" Karin whispered in her ear as he rested his head on her shoulder and put his hand on her lower back

"Karin!" Alexis yelled as turned around to face him "you sacred me" she said as playfully slapped his arm.  He took her hand and stared to spin her around so her back to him again "come of Lex let dance" Karin said. She turned back to and rolled her eyes "no so fast I want to you talk to my friends" she said. Just as she about to introduce him to her friends some guy jumped in front them "Who do you think you are  being so close to Alexis" the guy. Karin looked to he could see the guy more clearly in turned out to be Chazz.

"I don't think that is any of your business" Karin as he pulled Alexis closer to him as he said this. "It is because I'm her date for tonight" Chazz said or yelled. Karin turned his head down to look at Alexis "I turned him down he asked me like 20 times" Alexis said. Karin turned back to Chazz "while you heard the lady so this not your business" he said. Chazz looked he about to kill Karin "you nothing but 3rd rate duelest you have no right be with her!" Chazz yelled. This caused Karin to get made his dueling was thought to him by his father and deck was his pride no one gets to make fun of it. Karin eyes harden as he turned to Alexis and said "Lex do mind giving me 5 minutes to teach this how far out of his league he is". 

Alexis looked into Karin eyes and know that he was mad so she walked away from the two boys. Karin looked back at Chazz "get your deck out your deck out lets duel" Karin said as he took out his duel disk. Chazz just slime like a cocky son of bitch and took deck and disk

Karin looked at Chazz like he was idiot and draw his card " I told you make count and that call you do". " Let me show you how to play this game is supposed to be played I stared my playing mystical space typhoon to get rid your face down" Chazz's face down pops up showing mirror force. " Now I play magical meltdown" a red magical circle appeares on the ground between the two of them "When   magical meltdown is activated I can add 1 Aleister the Invoker from my Deck to my hand" Karin said as he added the card to his hand.

"Now I summon Aleister the Invoker" Karin said as the spell caster comes to life in front of him. " When he is normal summoned I can add one Invocation from my deck to my hand". "Now I'm going to play it when Invocation is activated I use to fuse summon". "Now I;m going to fuse Aleister on my filed with the white stone of ancients in hand to fuse summon invoked mechaba" Karin says. Mechaba comes to filed.

While his believers enjoyed the entertainment of gaming and earnestly cherished them, Xi Wei would gain divine energy as the God of Games.
In fact, the former God of Games was born through such divine energy before Xi Wei had transmigrated, staying alive until the fall of Tierra.
That was why Xi Wei immediately directed his attention here when he thought of how he should secure new sources of divine energy.
His rewards were merely motivation for the Players to play those Steam games, but what they really enjoyed was the game itself.
That being said, the most well-received game was not the most divine power consuming Thunder or the card game Xi Wei himself held in high-esteem, but Tierra Blocks, the least conspicuous of those three.
Naturally, that was a copy of Tetris that Xi Wei had made.

Back on Earth, Tetris had a demonic attraction to it and spread itself across countless platforms since its birth in 1984, even winning Guinness World Records in its own categories.
It was simple to understand, easy to play and possess a devilish charm that would have everyone continue playing.
Almost all who had any link to electronic gaming would have heard of it, and it continues to create new heights in the present age.
Moreover, as the eldest amongst match 3 games, Tetris has all the strong points the others possess: easy access, minimal effort and excellent feedback, delivering a strong sense of pride and accomplishment when each row was removed.
In contrast to the hardcore Thunder which could be time consuming, Players could simply start a session of Tetris when they had free time since it was a casual game. It would at once vent the stress after a daily quest, placate post-slaughter impulses and perfectly utilize the Players' vacant time.
Moreover, each Tetris session came only at the cost of 1 game coin. It was therefore not unusual that it was more well-received by the Players.
Now, the first exchange Players would share had gone from 'Did you farm the dungeon today?' to 'What's your Tetris high-score now?', and heaven knows what it would be like later on…
On the other hand, Thunder also did rise to critical acclaim amongst the Players, with some actually believing that it was a trial that the God of Games had bestowed upon them and that they could change class to the Riders if they had passed. However, the claim was refuted by other Players who pointed out that Players of every class could play the game anyway.
Moreover, clearing each level would take too long, and aside from the people awaiting their revival in the little black hut, the Players could only have one or two sessions at night, enjoying the exhilaration of being a Griffin Rider.
Additionally, the Great Revolt which Xi Wei had placed his hopes on was almost dead-upon-introduction. While it was not as if no one was trying it, there just wasn't that many who would play it.
But that only made sense upon closer examination. Xi Wei's original intention in coming up with this card game was to secure a wild craze like Fight the Landlord did back on Earth, but he did not consider the circumstances of this world.
For one, this world had its own gambling entertainments, and if the players did not find card games to be a fresh breath of air, it certainly wouldn't be as popular as the other two games. Secondly, unlike Thunder and Tierra Blocks which could be directly played by inserting coins, the Great Revolt requires at least four players to start a session.
Besides, Players weren't exactly idling at home the whole day and free to play games, nor could they stay too often on the Steam platform. With the total number of Players being just over two hundred at present, it was quite difficult to get four-people in a game.
Those were the exact reasons which left card games in its miserable state.
Still, Xi Wei was not too disappointed. When the number of Players increased, a social PVP game like this would become very popular.
On the other hand, one might actually presume that Xi Wei was introducing games to cripple his own Players, but that was not true: even throughout the society Xi Wei had transmigrated from, it was not hard to notice that it was a few minor students who had become addicted to games. Adults—especially those with proper jobs almost never fall to the state of gaming addicts, and would at most play a few rounds of League of Legends after work, games that had a quick rhythm.
The reason for that was simple, too: students face no pressures in life or an objective to strive for, and should their self-control be lacking they would become addicted. In contrast, adults would often work long, dizzying hours every day due to economic pressure. Would they have the time to get addicted? Even those who loved playing games at a younger age would have their gaming consoles and triple A games put in a corner gathering dust after buying them all…
Naturally, the inability for certain useless parents to properly educate their children was why there would always be people accusing video games as the root of all evil. Even so, since their pride was too strong to allow them to see that they were the very cause, they would exert every possible effort to find any excuse, and video games were certainly the best scapegoat and was often used as such targets.
On that note, one should mention that anime and digital literature were the other two elements alongside video games given the moniker of the three scapegoats in children's education.
Meanwhile, the Players in this world were all essentially Xi Wei's believers. Their life had barely reached sufficiency, although almost all of them understand that this didn't come easy: the God of Games could not spread its gospel out in the open to other cities yet, and if they did not diligently improve themselves, they could face disaster on the scale of Tierra's fall.
Couple that with daily quests and dungeon farming which basically feeds back to Players similar to a game, that was the reason they wouldn't get too addicted, and merely keep those games as a pastime.
That's right. Xi Wei can say for sure that his Players would never obsess themselves with gaming without regard for day or night!

"Why can't I get in the top thirty?! Or should I say how did those other guys survive the entire screen filled with spells?! Are the top thirty players in Thunder all monster?!"
Marni, who was feeling weirdly exhausted in spirit turned off the game for a while to head to the forums for some complaining.
He felt his vision blur, and he had already materialized beside a Lifestone in the next split second.
He gaped at the familiar sights before him, mumbling in surprise. "Did I already play for three days?! No way… I have to earn some EXP to make up for lost time… but before that, some R&R with Tierra Blocks. Steam, start!"

This is the tale of an earthling, who transmigrated as a dying third-rate god but somehow rose through the ranks, gaining followers and eventually causing the Fourth Great Apocalypse.

"Have you ever heard of the God of Games?"
"The God of Games..?" Eleena shook her head in puzzlement. "I have never heard of Him…"
"What if the God of Games could give you the power to defeat your enemies?" Xi Wei coaxed patiently.
Eleena remained silent for a while, before resolutely lifting her head and fixing her gaze on Xi Wei. "Then I am willing to become a believer of the God of Games!"
"Belief isn't something to only be spoken by mouth. Close your eyes and envision His name in your mind, and feel His power with your heart," he said solemnly.
"O Master of Games, grant us new life!"

When Katie got to class the next day, she was more than thrilled to realize the class has grown to twice its previous size. Instead of the dozen or so original students, there were at least fifty teenagers in the class.

Katie walked to her seat. A boy was sitting there, right in her place. Katie didn't waste another word before snapping out her Walther handgun and slamming it on the top. Half the class turned. Some of the original classmates turned away as quickly as they turned over. Nothing surprising there, given the person doing it. But some of the new students were obviously disturbed.

They just entered the games yesterday. They had no idea what they would go through.

The boy looked up in surprise.

"What?"

"You're sitting in my seat. Get out."

"Wow chill girl." The teenager threw his arms up. His eyes lingering on the black handgun. The firearm made him flinch, but his pride kept him from backing down. He didn't even need to look to know half the class must be observing.

Katie sighed before suddenly wacking the boy across the cheek with the butt of her gun.

The boy yelped and collapsed on the table. His face covered with blood. Katie casually pushed him out of the seat before sitting down. Her gun spinned around her palm. The boy looked as if he wanted to say something, but a friend of his walked over and helped him move away.

Katie finally sat down inside the seat she fought so hard to get. Mr. Isaac hasn't arrived yet, which meant one thing:

"This is so booorrrrrrriiiiinnnnngggggg! Someone do something fun!" The brunette growled, and she didn't even bother to keep it down. No one answered her, but a few did look at her as if she was a madwoman.

Slowly, she glanced across the classmates and counted them. 1. 2. 3. 36. 55. 56.

That's 56 different ways to die. But her eyes suddenly lingered on one blonde.

The door snapped open, and one undead teacher walked in. Mr. Isaac tilted his head. First, he looked at the newcomers.

"For the new students, Mr. Stein has entrusted you all to my care. I know a transition like this can make some of you uncomfortable, but rest assured that I will take very, very good care of you."

The room was pen-drop silent.

"Now, what should we do today?" The undead scanned the room. Most of the students stood up straight, not wanting to give the monster any idea or attract his attention. There was only one exception.

"What? You forgot to prep for the class?"

Katie sat back, crossed her legs, and tilted her head. She was anxious, but not because she was afraid the games would be deadly. Nope. She wanted the games to be fatal. She wanted blood to be spilled and bodies to be dropped.

She really wanted to get her girl back, no matter the cost.

"Well, here's the thing," Isaac's eyes landed on Katie briefly. "I watched a movie a while back, it's called Cabin in the Woods, and it had some really interesting content. For example, there's one part where the kids picked out some toys from a stack, and the toys they selected represented the monsters that would come to kill them."

"This, sounds fun."

"And I, would like to re-enact it, with my best students."

"Yessss!" Katie held her fists tight in excitement. Cabin in the Woods? Ok. Never saw it. Don't know how it is. Don't care. But monsters! Monsters! She didn't give a crap about fighting monsters. No one could beat her in a war of attrition. What she was worried about was a game that relied on intelligence and wits. She would rather break the back of ten wraiths than solve a puzzle.

And the more monsters she kill, the more Caitlin would realize who she really loves.

Most of the original classmates didn't even turn. They have gotten used to Katie's maniac outbursts. But a lot of the newcomers silently shifted further away from the brunette.

On the side, Caitlin and Zach exchanged troubled glances. Caitlin had a Walther handgun, a gift from Katie. Zach had nothing. He was too busy sticking to Caitlin to go buy a gun.

Mr. Isaac waved his hand.

"It's a bit crowded here. Let's go to the football court, shall we? That will allow things to be more entertaining."

The class, whether they wanted or not, stood up and marched out of the classroom. They didn't want to do what Mr. Isaac instructed, but they didn't want to die either. Obey, and they might live to see another day, another game. Refuse, and they might as well shoot themselves in the head for the quickest way down.

The entire way down, the fifty or so students encountered more than their fair share of fellow students and teachers, but no one bat an eye. This continued until everyone was standing in the football field a distance away from the main school building.

"So," As the students were getting in place, Katie walked to Isaac and tapped his shoulder. "how are we choosing who's fighting? Is it an all-in battle where we all charge in? Or do we get to volunteer? Or! Or you can just assign who goes...or even better! Maybe you give the choice to someone else, and they get to choose who goes! A bit less fun at the first glance, but just think about what people will do to not get selected! Don't you think that's gonna be halirious?"

Isaac glanced at Katie's hand as if he wanted to bite it off. Finally, he hissed something.

"This is not your playground, Katie Lockwood. Don't think, just because you are more mentally twisted than everyone else in the class, that you get to do whatever you want..."

"Ok. Ok. Just making a few suggestions. That's it. No need to be such a jerk about it." Katie shrugged and stepped back.

Mr. Isaac reached inside his pockets and pulled out a stack of cards. He turned to a girl near him and held the stack out with its back facing the girl.

"You, choose."

"I…" The girl gulped. She was one of the newcomers. Just thrown into this chaos, she was still working really hard to adjust to this. She could almost feel tears coming down her cheek.

What if she chooses an extra mean monster and people get killed because of that?

"Choose." Mr. Isaac repeated in a hissing voice.

"Ok. I'll choose! I'll choose!" The girl stepped forward, closed her eyes, and reached forward to pluck out a random card from the stack. She turned it over and gave out a slight yelp.

On the front of the card was the portrait of a creature so vile just its image could make the girl step back. Its furry legs spread across the entire card. Distinctly, the girl suddenly saw the legs on the card reaching out, crossing dimensions and bringing itself to the real world. She screamed and tossed the card as far away as possible.

Yet her arms were shaking like tree branches in a tornedo. The card landed just a few feet away from her legs. She turned and returned to the rest of the students as quickly as possible. Her legs didn't fail her the same way her arms did. Good for her.

"Ahhh...the Spider Queen." Mr. Isaac watched as the creature slowly climbed out into the football field. It got larger and larger until it was the size of an SUV.

"Oh god…" The students gulped.

Katie licked her lips. The Spider Queen looked big and bad...and it probably is, but she should be fine...right? She rested her hand on her sidearms in uncertainty.

One thing for sure. Whether she wins or loses, things would be really, really fun.

Mr. Isaac started explaining the rules.

"I will select three of you to fight the monster you selected. You can use anything you have. The game will only end until either the students or the monster is dead."

"Oh...my condolences to the unfortunate souls." Katie immediately had a followup question. "So, what happens after that giant spider kills the entire trio? Do we send in another squad of sacrificial lambs?"

The students nodded. They didn't quite like the way Katie asked the question, but they did find a point in her words. If the students were just constantly sent in three by three, then they could see the entire class eliminated in a single day.

"Where's the fun in that?" Isaac grinned, a sight menacing enough to shut up crying children. "No. You will select a new monster everyday. If the trio of the day goes down screaming, then that's it."

Caitlin breathed a sigh of relief. She guessed so. From what she and Zach discussed, Mr. Isaac wanted to drag all the games out. He had the ability to slay everyone in the class, including Katie, but he stuck with these so called "games" instead and picked the students out one by one.

But things weren't over just yet. There was still a giant spider on the side, ready to devour a trio of unfortunate teens.

All the students had their eyes trained on the undead as he announced who would be in the fight.

"Sara. Brandon. Frank."

All the students relaxed. They might still die tomorrow, but at least they would be set to drink and party for another day. Well, all except three.

Brandon and Frank were two newcomers. This was their first real game, and they had no damn idea how they would fight a spider the size of a car. Seriously? Was this really something for amateurs like them? They almost wanted to complain and ask Isaac to give the privilege to be heroes to the other class.

But none of them said it, not because they were concerned about PR, but because they knew it would be useless.

Sara was paralyzed as well, but she quickly had an idea. Her head snapped to Isaac.

"Mr...Mr. Isaac, can we give the chance to someone else? If they also agree?"

Some students smirked. How naive was the girl? The fear of death must be pushing her mad! Who does she think Mr. Isaac was? Some sort of saint? Plus, who would be foolish enough to take the chance and replace the girl in death? Some idiot boy, perhaps? Blinded by the desire to be a hero? Maybe her boyfriend.

But some wiser student turned and glanced at Katie. You don't say! So that was what Sara was trying to do! Not bad. Even better, it might even work!

Mr. Isaac knew it as well.

"Normally, I will say no, but given some of our students are extra...motivated, I will allow it. As long as the other person also agrees, you can give the opening to her." He didn't even bother to hide it with the pronoun.

Sara's mouth curved up. Her tears of sorrow turned into tears of joy as she practically ran to Katie.

"Save me! Please!"

Katie grinned, stretched her arms, and tapped Sara on the tip of her nose.

"Well, you are cute, so…"

Suddenly, her eyes lingered on Caitlin and the boy beside him. And at the moment, her heart was filled by a wave of blinding anger.

What am I? Some sort of tool? All of you treat me like some sort of psychopath normally, and when it comes to stepping in and saving the day, you come running back to me? Do I look stupid to you?

She could never hurt Caitlin. Not in a million years. This Sara, on the other hand...

"Nope." She turned back to Sara with a cruel look. "This is the captain speaking. The weather is looking extra spidy. There are some signs of severe acid, as well as a forecast of trapped and melted in a corrosive net. Now, please sit back and strap in and enjoy the one-way trip to hell. Thank you for choosing AirIsaac. Your suffering is our pleasure."

"What?" Sara's eyes widened. She has already zoned out after the first word Katie said. What the fuck? Why would Katie say no? Why? She was about to say yes!

"Please! I will do anything!"

But her desperate attempt was cut short when Isaac snapped his finger, and Sara and the other two boys were teleported to in front of the Spider Queen.

As the slaughter unfolded, Katie casually walked over to Caitlin.

"You could've saved her!" Caitlin growled, her eyes trained on the battle and not on Katie. After what Katie did, she couldn't bare to look at her.

Caitlin knew all too well why Katie did what she did. Katie said she would show Caitlin the way, and this was her way of doing it.

Katie shrugged.

"My life is a life too, Caitlin. If I get cut, it hurts like hell too. If I lose my head, I die too...I think. Why should I risk killing myself for someone who would leave me for the first dude she sees?"

And she wasn't talking about Sara.

"I wasn't leaving you!" Caitlin could feel tears forming in her eyes. "I...I just wasn't prepared to tell you that. I was going to, but...but that is not an excuse to take things out on Sara! You wanna beat me up, fine! But Sara! What did she ever do to you?"

That was when the gravity of the situation suddenly hit Katie. Right! What did Sara do to her? Nothing! Sara didn't betray her for a man. She didn't leave her hanging. She was just an ordinary girl who came to her for help!

She didn't deserve to die like this, especially not after Katie mocked her so cruelly.

Katie snapped around to Isaac.

"Hey! I volunteer…"

Her mouth went shut when her eyes landed on Sara, or rather what was left of her.

The poor girl's limbs were no more than green puddles of acid dissolves. At the first minute of combat, the Spider Queen spew acid across all three students. Frank was straight-up melted. Brandon lost half the skin on his face and was stuck on the ground screaming for the rest of his time. Sara was a tad quicker, but she lost her entire left hand as well.

None of the three students was heavily armed. Their best weapon was a revolver that Sara brought, and only a fool would think those small caliber bullets could as much as dent the Spider Queen.

Sara tried to shoot a couple of times, and the results matched the expectations. When she tried to run, it was already too late. The Spider Queen leaped forward and, with a single swipe, parted her head with the rest of her body.

Her body collapsed right then and there, but her head flew across the air before landing right beside Katie's feet.

Katie looked down and found herself staring straight into Sara's still open eyes.

For the first time in the day, Katie Lockwood was dead silent.
