They day after The Colonel's Convoy settled into the university. A blizzard of an unworldly making set in. Gathered on the main floor, Bayek addressed the convoy once more before taking on his scientific endeavors for the winter. "We made it, Ladies and gentlemen, we made it. This will be the first winters of many. All of us here are mostly military, other civilians before this all started. With that being said. I want everyone to get with Emma, April, and Miranda. Tell them your job, any skills you feel will be beneficial to this company. From their duties will be assigned. 

You can eat, drink, and kickback all you want. But you will carry your weight. All children of school age will continue their schooling. At least things that will need to be learned in order to keep us going. They will spend each day of the week except weekends, learning about the different jobs assigned around the company.  "

Bayek took a long breath and looked over the company observing their reactions. Everyone seemed intent on pulling their weight. And showed expressions of conviction. Nodding his in approval Bayek continued 

"Evolved people will spend this winter with me on the top floor, for research. After jobs are assigned, we will start forming teams and then everyone will be subject to more physical training.  PT or die. But I won't be the one to kill you, those walkers outside will. Finally. Every Monday will be posting task on the board in the main hall. It will have things that the company needs, and things that are needed to prepare for departure in spring, today is now November 13, 2010. So, relax, do your jobs and enjoy your stay at the University resort" 

Finished with his address the building echoed with shouts "Kill! Rah!" civilians gave a round of applause with smiles on their faces. They could be in worse situations. But the Colonel made sure they had shelter before they froze to death. It was the third time head saved their necks and the people appreciated it.

The company began forming to lines. One for military personal and another full of civilians, to report their occupations and skills. Bayek and April took a walk through the building. It had three floors all together. The first floor consisted of 6 lecture halls and 4 small classrooms; the first floor was also attached to a Starbucks. The second floor had a common area, 6 laboratories and 2 chemical and equipment lockups, along with the staff offices.  It was an identical set up on the third floor as it was on the second. More than enough supplies for Bayek to conduct research. 

During their stroll, April and Bayek talked about their food supply, Medicine, ammunition, clothes, and more.  They decided to wait until the blizzard killed over and to ration supplies for the time being. Looking at a map of the surrounding area. 
"So how do you want to handle this?" April asked him




"I'm going to leave it up to you, just make sure you check that Starbucks for coffee. I 'll call for you when I'm ready for the evolved. Make sure that the power is directed towards the heater and light out at 9 to save fuel. You got this?" Bayek asked

"Of course, you just find a way to kill those things."


The winter went buy in relative peace, Teams went out and gathered supplies from the surrounding are to prepare for war season. Most of the walkers were frozen stiff during the winter. And the world had shown another face. The harshest winter anyone had experienced was upon them. It was like the Siberian tundra outside , But the company soldiered on. 

Archery and hand to hand combat was taught to everyone. Civilians had to become fighters. And the kids were taught to load magazine, engineering, first aid, and other things that were crucial to the survival of the entire company. With a routine in place, everyone started to feel a lot more comfortable in the university.

Bayek him self like the change, the company was turning into 100 percent fighting force. And the best part was that the more they trained the more their bodily limits increased making it hard to achieve evolution, but when they did, it would produce phenomenal results.

Bayek spent his days in the lab, Reading and studying. Testing the evolved and normal humans. With the body of a variant and the cocoon of an evolved. Bayek pretty much had all he need for his initial research. Days turned to weeks and weeks to months. Bayek spent his time shut in the lab. He had come to the conclusion that the suppressed DNA activated after the sudden increase of environmental pressure. It was like, evolution on steroids. The next question was how to induce the DNA activation without the need to fight a horde.

In mid-March, Bayek had saw a school student reading a comic book. It was none other than captain America Volume 5. Bayek laughed to himself. In his past life, Marvel had made a Captain America movie. Steve Rodgers was a slim and sickly man in the beginning. That is until he was injected with a serum and but in some type of incubator. In that moment, Bayek had came up with the craziest fucking Idea of the century. 

Snatching the comic book from the kid's hands, Bayek went straight to Starbucks. It had been turned into a kitchen for the company. The team leaders always ate last and liked to conduct their morning meetings while they ate

Rushing through the door. Bayek slapped the comic book on the table. "If I didn't know you in Atlanta, get out." Bayek ordered in a stern commanding voice. When the room was finally cleared of untrusted personnel Bayek looked at everyone with a childish grin

"When you have nothing to lose, risk it all" They group looked at each other a little confused. "Remember the memo I sent to you about the confirmed trigger that causes onset evolution?" 

April nodded her head "well, the next question I asked my self was how to  trigger an evolution, without the need of a horde. I was completely stuck. Until I saw a kid reading Captain America…"
The group was stuck for a while, it seemed that not a lot of them were comic book fans. But in the Nadia was slacked jawed "No way?!" The group turned to look at her.

"What are you doing her, I didn't know you in Atlanta" Seiichi spoke
"Leave em alone Bayek, they're Cesar's family and they've been a big help this winter" April intervened

"Oh well. By sound of your little outburst. You know what I'm thinking. Care to share with the Group?" Bayek asked with an amused smile

"Umm... Well before the outbreak I was like a super mega comic book fan, I mean I have a had the copies comic book from timely comics before it became marvel. Captain America was like one of my all-time favorites…" Nadia ramble

"Yo! Get to the point" Hazel interrupted her
"The point is, Captain America wasn't always Captain America. He was an average joe like the rest of us, until he was injected by an experimental Serum."

In that moment, it dawned on them. Bayek was finally going full Dred Doctor.
"That's the craziest fucking Idea, I've ever heard. We can't inject people with magic serums" Em was the first to voice her disagreement

"The Serum will induce pain. Extreme pain. The Incubator is the difficult part" Bayek went on to explain his entire plan with everyone. From the purpose of the serum, the construction and purpose of the incubator. And what he hoped to accomplish if everything went right.

"We need to risk it all. By this time next year, who knows how many variant will be hunting humans. And what if that variant, evolves.  Our only choice is to get stronger. Guns can put them down. But we can't shoot what we can't see. And when those bullets are all gone, then what?" Bayek said his closing argument and watched the changing expressions of the group.

That meeting, in a run-down Starbucks, would change the course of humanity in ways that Bayek would have never imagined. Marking the era of a battle against an enemy far beyond any of their comprehension. The meeting will become known as the first gathering of the Genesis Council.



In the following days. The company spent their time hunting down parts to build the incubator.  While Bayek meditated and cultivated his Qi. One night in the middle of deep meditation. Bayek had saw images of the Goddess Hecate in his mind's eyes. She said no words and only sent him pictures. These pictures were messages left in him, when Hecate had given Bayek his last gift, for the mistake of dropping him in The Walking Dead world.

When Bayek opened his eyes. The layer of impurities flaked off of his body and his eyes shined with a profound light
"So that's how it is."

The message was stopped after that. It was the stages of cultivation that Bayek could ascend. According to his personally examination. He was nearing the peak of body condition. He wouldn't be able to hold Qi in his body until Qi gathering stage. All he could do know was use external Qi, like a human energy conductor.

My MC find's himself to be the last believer of a dying Goddess. Rewarded for his loyalty he is granted another life... And then some.

However, what happens when the Goddess you love so much, fucks up and sends you to an apocalyptic world, where the dead walks.

10 Classic Superheroes, Ranked By Their Origin Stories

Not everyone is born a hero. In the case of superheroes, it's a singular moment that typically sets the individual on the path to becoming a force for good. That's what is known as the origin story. Whether it's an alien with unbelievable powers or a regular Earthling who's just trying to do the best with their natural talents, each comic book protagonist has an experience that leads them on their heroic path. And boy, have there been a lot of these told for both classic and modern heroes. 

The comic book medium has been going strong for more 75 years, and over those decades hundreds, if not thousands, of superheroes have been introduced. Typically these origin stories have been seen across a variety of media by both passionate comic book fans and people who are just looking for a good tale. And just because a hero is successful doesn't mean that they got off to the best start with their origin stories, but when these tales are told right, they're the stuff of legend. Here are some of the most famous superheroes of all time ranked by how great and epic their origin stories are.

1. The X-Men

Of course, each individual X-Men has their own unique stories, but together the team's origin tale is a classic. As mutants, they were all born with their abilities rather than imbued with them by science, magic or aliens. Consequently, many of these people face mistrust and bigotry from the general population who view them as freaks of nature. However, despite their persecution, they still use their powers to protect the innocent. Brought together by Charles Xavier, the X-Men not only combat threats ranging from fanatical humans to fellow mutants, but their overall mission is to fight for the rights of their fellow mutants and usher in a world of acceptance and peace. So even though their overall story is based in a superhero world, it's memorable because their goals are similar to what many of us want to achieve in real life.

2. The Flash (Barry Allen)

In the 1950s, DC Comics decided to relaunch several of their most successful superheroes from the 1940s as new individuals. The Flash was the first to receive this treatment, being reintroduced in 1956 as forensic scientist Barry Allen. While working late in his lab one night, he was struck by lightning, which subsequently knocked him into shelf full of chemicals. After waking up, he discovered he could run at superhuman speeds, and donning the red and yellow costume that's become much more recognizable than his predecessor's, Barry became the new Flash and built a quite a supporting cast. Visually it's one of the best origins on this list, but it also has a distinct sci-fi feel to it that few DC hero origins had before it. Many non-comic book fans saw this origin told for the first time back in October on the CW series The Flash.

3. Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)

Green Lantern was the second DC hero to be revitalized during the Silver Age of comic books. This time around, test pilot Hal Jordan inherited a special ring after it was bequeathed to him by a dying alien named Abin Sur who had crash-landed on Earth. Unlike the magical ring that the Golden Age Green Lantern wore, Hal Jordan's ring was a product of science that allowed him to use his willpower to fly and make solid constructs with his mind. Inheriting Abin Sur's legacy, Hal became the new Green Lantern of Sector 2814, and the first human to ever join the Green Lantern Corps. Like The Flash, it's memorable for its sci-fi feel, but also to due to how this Green Lantern inherited his heroic legacy from a mysterious visitor (which would later be repeated with Kyle Rayner) whereas his predecessor Alan Scott just sort of stumbled upon his power.

Seen On Screen: In the flawed, but right now only, Green Lantern origin movie with Ryan Reynolds, which hit theaters in 2011.

4. Iron Man

Although the location for Iron Man's origin has changed several times throughout the decades, the story itself has not. While demonstrating some of his creations abroad, Tony Stark was injured and taken captive by enemy soldiers. While in captivity, he was forced to build weapons for these terrorists, but with the help of scientist Ho Yinsen, he built a mechanical suit that allowed him to defeat his captors and escape to freedom. With a renewed perspective on life, Tony uses his new armor to protect the innocent as Iron Man. Not only is it one of best redemption origin stories and full of action as Tony escaped his imprisonment, it also showed that not everyone who becomes a superhero starts out as a moral individual. Sometimes takes a nudge (or in Tony's case nearly dying from shrapnel in your heart) to discover your true potential.

Seen On Screen: Stark's destiny was brought to life by Jon Favreau in 2008's Iron Man, with Robert Downey Jr. in the lead.

5 Captain America

Captain America's origin story wouldn't work well as an anti-drug PSA, but it's an excellent story of trumping over the odds. Steve Rogerswanted to serve in World War II, but his scrawny body and ill health prevented him from enlisting. Fortunately for him, he was chosen as the test subject for Project Rebirth, and after being injected with the Super Soldier Serum, his body became the epitome of physical perfection. Soon after the scientist who created the serum was assassinated by a Nazi spy, leaving the serum's formula lost and making Steve the only one of his kind. He subsequently became Captain America to not only to help defeat the Axis forces, but to become one of the most well-known superheroes in the present-day after being frozen for decades. As mentioned earlier, it's memorable for featuring the little guy rising up to beat the odds, but it also helps that it was an important reflection of the era he was created in and even inspired good to defeat evil in real life.

                                                                             Location: The Comic Book Store 
                                                                                      June, 29th, 2025

Hundreds of zombie hordes and different types of zombies stood outside of the comic book store, bashing the windows of the store and throwing rocks and pebbles at the walls, trying to get in. Anthony, Rose, and Audrey stand from the inside of the store, geared up with things. Anthony was geared up with his classic Cheeto launcher, his ruby axe, and his basically broken captain america shield, which he was planning to repair after the fight. Rose was equipped with her shovel, and Audrey was armed with her weapon, AKA a cleaver. Rose walks to the doors and sets her hand on the door handle. Anthony covers the underground base with pieces of the store's floor that Trevor had dag all that time ago. Anthony lifts a thumbs up. "Are we ready?" Anthony says. Audrey looks at the ground. "Ready" Audrey replies. Rose looks back at them. "Alright." She says, then unlocking the door. Instantly, a tank zombie barrels through the door, sending Rose flying backwards and smashing into a shelf of outdated DC comics, as the shelf falls over, crashing into the back wall. Anthony takes his half broken Captain America shield out and jumps onto the tanks back, stabbing his shield into the tanks zombies arm, as the arm slides off and lands on the ground. The tank roars and spins around, and Anthony struggles to stay on the zombies back. "Audrey, help Rose! I'll take care of this!" Anthony says. Then, all of a sudden, zombies' heads fall downwards. "What's happening?" Anthony says, watching zombies fall one by one. Then he comes out, "Trevor!" Anthony says, "Did ya miss me?" Trevor said, "I'll keep the zombies away from you, while you take down that tank!" Said Trevor. "Got it friend!" Anthony says. Anthony whips his axe out, raising it up and slicing down, cutting the zombies back. Blood drips from the wound, splatting onto the floor. Anthony then pulls out the cheeto launcher, pulling the barrel of the gun back, ready to fire. But suddenly, the tank reaches its hand over its shoulder and grabs Anthony by the shirt, then slamming Anthony onto the ground, cracking the floor. Drool and saliva falls on the floor of the store around Anthony. The tank snarls and goes in for the bite, and- WHAM! The tank is whacked in the knee as the tank falls down. Rose grabs the tank by the hair and pulls up the head, then slicing the neck of the tank in a heartbeat. Rose lowers her shovel down and lifts Anthony up. "Thanks," Anthony says. Rose shrugs. "It was nothing. Now, let's go help Trevor" She says. Audrey follows behind Rose and Anthony and they run outside, to see Trevor slicing zombies left right forwards backwards 3 dimensional you name it. Trevor, who now looks like he's about to pass out, whacks the zombie out of commission. Trevor falls backward, straight into sleep mode, "He must really care about you not dying Anthony." Audrey said, "Yep." Anthony replies. Anthony tries to drag 
Trevor inside of the comic book bunker, but because of how enormous this kid is, and his gadget vest, Anthony is unable to drag Trevor. "A little help guys?" Anthony said, straining, Rose and Audrey walk over to Trevor and Anthony. Rose and Audrey grab Trevors jacket, and pull him into the comic book store bunker. "Why the hell is he so heavy?!" Audrey yells.  Trevor is set on the sleeping bag, and then Rose, Audrey, and Anthony, just hang around, doing stuff. Audrey is trying to figure out why Trevor is so goddamn heavy, Rose is watching Anthony try to fix up the radio scanner so the squad could find their missing parents. "I cannot figure out how Trevor is so heavy, I give up." Audrey said, then sitting down in a chair. "What do we do? Other than just hang in here and do stuff?" Says Audrey. "I dunno, sharpen your blade?" Rose replied. Anthony looks over to Trevor, dropping his work supplies on his work table. "How about we wake up Trevor?" Anthony asks, raising an eyebrow. Rose shrugs. "Let him get some rest, Anthony. He needs some after fighting all of those zombies anyway" Rose replies. "You're right." Anthony said. Audrey ignores it and tries to wake Trevor up. "Wakie wakie eggs n bakey!" Said Audrey, shaking Trevor. "What are you doing?" Anthony said, looking over his shoulder.  "I'm trying to wake up Trevor!" Audrey says. Anthony grabs his supplies and gets to work. "You're supposed to give him rest, stop messing around and just chill." He says. Anthony starts to connect wires and place pieces of scrap metal on top of the inside of the radio scanner, covering up the inner workings. Anthony lifts his welding mask up, and shoves his TLG filler rods into his pockets. "Done" Anthony says, sighing and sitting on a chair. "And plus, I have a new idea for some gadgets . AKA: walkie talkies!" Said Anthony in excitement. "We could use some communication around here" Audrey says. Anthony nods and climbs out of the underground base, lifting himself up to the actual store. Anthony stands up and looks through the window, and the sun had just about set, and the sky was barely blue. Anthony slides back into the base. "Okay, can one of you get me materials?" Anthony says. "I can" Trevor suddenly says, fully up and leaning on the wall.  Anthony pulls a thumbs up. "Splendid, friend!" Anthony says. "Wait, you guys can also help too," Anthony says. "Rose, you're in charge of getting scrap metal, which you can get at the junkyard. And Audrey, you can get brick." Anthony says. Audrey and Rose nod, jumping out of the hole. Trevor follows behind them. "Don't die, Trevor" Anthony says. Trevor chuckles. "Anthony, I never die" Trevor says, finally exiting the store. Anthony then reaches into his bag and pulls the guy's diary from before, starting to flip through the pages. "Meanwhile, I'll learn how to control the NIght Lurkers themselves." Anthony says.

When a full blown zombie apocalypse breaks out, Friends Anthony and Trevor have to fight monsters and zombies of all shapes and sizes. will they survive the apocalypse? or will they die trying?

Avery is on his way home, he had just finished reading in the library. Without anything to do anymore, he left the school to go home early.

On his way, he saw a newsstand on the sidewalk. He stopped and decided to take a look. He saw plenty of newspapers and magazines but only one thing had caught his attention, comics.

There he saw the latest volume of his favorite comic superhero. He grabs a copy and asked the seller.

" How much for these? " He said.

" Oh, that one? It's a new release so one hundred pesos. " A bald old man wearing a gray shirt and blue loose pants said with a smile.

Avery pulled a hundred peso bill out of his wallet and gave the payment. After putting the comic inside his bag he left quickly.

He doesn't talk too much, Avery grows up like this. An introvert, he doesn't have any friends. He had lived like this since his childhood, with only comics providing him entertainment.

Even his parents are having a hard time when it comes to talking with him. They have tried several methods for him to overcome his shy personality but to no avail, it not worked.

After school, he'll be heading home immediately if no extra school works would be given and lock himself in his room...

While walking he noticed that a crowd of people is gathering at the front of a building, a bank to be exact.

It is also surrounded by police mobiles and officers armed with their guns.

Even though, he didn't bother to care about what's happening in the area. He's pretty sure that it is another crime being committed by some money-thirsty dickheads too lazy to find a decent job. So, Avery just continues to walk.

BOOM!

But then, a loud explosion resounded.

" What the-! " Avery cursed as his heart throb violently. But he wasn't able to continue because of shock.

He slowly turns his head to where the sound of the explosion came from, and when he did his eyes widened. Cars are flying like leaves in the air and the bank from the earlier is on fire.

People screaming and gunshots could be heard too, but not too clearly for him as he starts to feel dizzy.

And then a huge figure landed in front of him. Avery's vision is blurry it took a moment before he could resist the dizziness and could finnaly see what's in front of him clearly.

When he did, he looked at the huge figure and scan its whole. Avery became paralyzed after. He saw a huge topless man wearing an orange pants carrying two bags full of bills in both hands.

Avery whole body trembles, he clearly knows out of all who is the man in his front. This time he had totally lost all strength in his body.

Not like earlier he could still move but now, he can't even think of anything. His mind completely blackout.

The man is not just an ordinary money-thirst dickhead, but a mutant. No ordinary person could get out of that place unscathed with numerous armed police officers waiting for him outside.

'I'm dead' he could only thought of this to himself.

Avery couldn't move, he couldn't also hear the voices of people on the place telling him to get up and escape.

Even though the police officers were keep on firing their guns on the man, its useless. The man isn't even flinching.

The man stared at the teenager at his front viscously and smile.

He raise his hand and was about to punch the teen when suddenly~

Pow!!! Another figure showed up and dash in the middle.

Avery is awakened from his blank state due to the strong force of wind produced by the impact of the dashing figure that collided with the man's body.

The man who raised his hand disappeared, Avery could no longer see him at his front. Instead he saw a new figure, a man, floating in midair.

Red suit, white cape, and a pair of gold boots and arm guards. When he appeared all the people's face in the area became delighted. All the screaming and gun shots stop as if to them they are saved.

Other police reinforcements arrived after together with the ambulances securing the safety of the civilians and to treat the injured ones.

" Are you okay kid? " The man asked him.

Avery wanted to answer but no word came out from his mouth. He wanted to thank the man but, unfortunately he couldn't speak anymore, he's probably still in shock.

Just right after the man in cape asked him, he collapse.

" Hey! There's a kid here. He's probably in shocked, please give him proper treatment. " The man in cape called out the medical officer to help the teen.

" Captain Adam! Yes sir, we'll immediately do as you say.
Bring a stretcher here and a first aid kit! "
 The medical officer smiled at the caped man he addresses as Captain Adam and reach out to his subordinates.

Swish! Captain Adam flew off from the Area and headed towards the man he punch earlier.

" Picking fights on an unpowered teen, that's a bad habit you have there. " He said as he slowly floating towards the culprit who had caused the chaos on this place.

" I DON'T CARE! " The man get up quickly and threw a punch at Captain Adam.

" Pretty fast huh? Too bad I'm your opponent. "  Captain Adam leaned a bit on his right easily dodging the punch effortlessly.

But the man didn't loose his cool and throw another four simultaneous punches to Captain Adam. 

Yet just like earlier he dodge each of them without breaking a sweat. And at an incredible speed he countered. Captain Adam punches the man's right rib causing him to moan in pain.

" Ack!!! "

The man is forced to kneel and loss all his strength.

" I assume that's all. Behave in prison ok? " Adam smiled and said before he call the police officers to arrest the man.

Many people wanted to talk to him, civilians wanted to express their gratitude and so as the police, and the reporters who's job is to atleast make Adam say a few words before he left but, none of them succeeded.

Adam flew off and vanish faster than a bullet.

Logan aka wolverine will have the same ability as in the comic books the alone difference is his bones will be strong as like it is coated with adamantium and he will not lose his memory's.

"You said Chang Gu asked you for a favor? So, in other words, he can be considered your client?" Lee Zheng looked at Chen Ge with blatant suspicion on his face. "But you have not met him before. Why would he come to a person who owns a haunted house to help him finding a missing person? That does not make sense at all."
"How does it not make sense? This person who owns a haunted house has a sparkling record of helping the police solve their cases, right? That only proves that I have a wide range of hobbies and am interested in many things." On the surface, Chen Ge was conversing with Lee Zheng, but he kept his eyes glued to the curtain. No one in the room could see Chang Gu but him. They had no idea that this patient who had already been sent for autopsy was currently standing behind them.
"Helping us with our cases? Well, you sure are quite open with your self-praise." Lee Zheng was about to counter that claim, but there was nothing that he could say to overthrow it. There were many haunted house operators in the country, but a boss like Chen Ge was indeed exceptionally rare. One would probably come just once in a hundred years.
"Brother Zhang, other than calling out my name, did the patient say anything else before he died?"
"No, he only kept screaming your name before he died." Lee Zheng creased his brows into a frown. "Please be a little bit serious. We now suspect that it was you who put him in this state. After all, at the mental asylum, you were the only one who shared the room with him. In other words, you are the only one who has had any contact with him."
"Brother Zheng, I swear this is a misunderstanding!" Chen Ge immediately jumped to his explanation. He told Lee Zheng about Chang Wenyu and the parents of the children who were sent to the door behind the School of the Afterlife. However, he did not tell the full story. He chose parts of it that could be shared and used that to distract Lee Zheng's attention. In reality, Chen Ge himself had no idea what Chang Gu's goal was. After all, when he was at the School of the Afterlife, he was technically scammed by the Chang Gu and his sister. The real victim of that situation was Chen Ge.
Of course, Chen Ge was not going to take issue with a dead person. He planned to take Chang Gu home with him after this. At the end of the day, they had been through many things together, and Chen Ge had a feeling they had many things that they could talk about.
If it was another person who had come to drop these things on Lee Zheng, the latter would not have given the person any chance and would have taken him to the station in cuffs for questioning. But Chen Ge was different. No matter how ridiculous his stories were, they would be confirmed later, especially when it came to the prediction of a murder case. It was almost a prophetic power that the young man had. His stories were scarily accurate.
Seeing that Lee Zheng was still hung up on the suspicions, Chen Ge decided to pull open the zipper of his backpack and said in the severe tone, "Brother Zheng, can we put the issue about this patient aside for now? I have something more important to report to you. Actually, when you gave me the call, I was already prepared to go to the police station to find you in person."
"What could be more important than the loss of a human life?" Not only Lee Zheng, even the doctor in the room was irked by what Chen Ge said. They all felt Chen Ge was being a bit too unfeeling and harsh.
"The loss of several human lives." Chen Ge took out the information from his backpack. When he said that, the sickroom was shrouded in silence. Everyone turned to look at the stack of white paper that he was holding.
"I went to the old city last night and came upon a big discovery at a place called Jin Hwa Apartments." The actual statements and crime scene reconstructions written by the dead were hidden inside Chen Ge's backpack's compartment. What Chen Ge took out was a simplified version that he had personally written when he was in the cab. It only contained several names and several important clues. For murder cases, it was best that things were not that detailed. After all, if a normal person managed to reconstruct the murder scene perfectly, it would only be logical for the police to suspect them of being the murderer.
Chen Ge handed the papers over to Lee Zheng. "Why don't you take a look at it yourself?"
Even though it was already the abridged version, it was enough to shock and stun Lee Zheng. After all, the whole apartment block was filled with murderers and madmen. To accomplish his own goal, the ghost fetus had conducted a careful screening process when he chose his tenants. He denied those who had a kind heart, those who did not have a mind that he could corrupt, and those who were too simple and naïve.
After collecting for ten years, instead of saying that all the crazies at Jiujiang had chosen to move to Jin Hwa Apartments and Jiu Hong Apartments, it was more like the ghost fetus had found them and lured them into one spot. When Lee Zheng was skimming through the papers, Chen Ge made use of this chance, grabbed his backpack, and moved to the window.
When Chang Gu saw him approach, his body started to shake slightly. He lifted his head and used his remaining eye to look at Chen Ge. His lips opened and whispered in a tone that only Chen Ge could hear, "I can still see my little sister, yes?"
Chen Ge nodded. He took out the comic from his backpack, flipped it over to a random empty place, and then turned to look at Chan Gu silently. The meaning was clear. It was inconvenient for them to talk there. If he wanted to see his sister, then he had to go with Chen Ge. Chang Gu did not have much choice. The reason he called out Chen Ge's name before his dying breath was probably for this express reason. Chen Ge managed to extrapolate that much from the fact that his lingering spirit had not left the sickroom after he died as if he was there waiting for Chen Ge to come. The two shared a silent connection. Chang Gu entered the comic without resisting. Chen Ge put the comic away like nothing had ever happened.
"Is the air conditioning broken? How come it suddenly feels so hot?" The doctor lowered the temperature of the air conditioning, and he moved several steps toward Lee Zheng as if he was curious about the content on the white paper. Hearing the shuffling footsteps, Lee Zheng immediately put the papers away. His expression was severe when he turned to look at Chen Ge. There was fury burning inside his eyes, but the fury was not directed at Chen Ge. Lee Zheng was a man of justice; this was one of the reasons Chen Ge admired him so much.
"Chen Ge, you have to follow me back to the police station after this. This is too serious. We have to inform Captain Yan about it." Then, Lee Zheng turned to address the doctor and the nurse. He told them to keep the room where Chang Gu died vacant for a while. He then left the hospital with the other police officers and Chen Ge in tow.

At the police station, once Captain Yan was briefed of the situation, he immediately summoned all the important personnel to have an emergency meeting. Everyone was seated inside the conference room. Even Chen Ge was given his own seat, and most importantly, none of the officers felt that Chen Ge's presence was out of place. The staff had compiled the information provided by Chen Ge and compared them to the missing person records and the unclosed cases from many years ago. The police discovered that the murders mentioned on the papers matched some of the cases almost perfectly.
"Round up the teams immediately. We are going to Jin Hwa Apartments now. By the way, call all the people who are on leave back to the station as well!" Captain Yan was going to lead the team personally. After he had assigned everything, a few police cars left the station in a group.
Hugging his backpack, Chen Ge was squeezed between two other police officers. He appeared rather cautious and reserved. "Er… should you guys send in some plainclothes to do some investigation first? If you go in directly like this, you might scare some of the innocent tenants there."
The atmosphere inside the car was serious. Neither officer answered Chen Ge's question. Ten minutes later, they arrived at Jin Hwa Apartments. The parade of police cars rumbled through the streets. The sirens echoed through the air of the old city. Karma might be late, but she would never miss out on the party.
Most of the tenants had no idea what was going on, but some of the tenants had already prepared to sneak away. When the police arrived, however, they directly sealed up the whole of Jin Hwa and Jiu Hong Apartments. No one was going to escape.
The ambush was so sudden and without any warning. In a way, this was the first time Chen Ge had seen Captain Yan in action. He carried out his action with drive and determination and had a scarily accurate instinct when it came to crimes and cases.
Everyone at Jiujiang Police Station was a well-trained member of the law enforcement. After all, they had been 'baptized' by a shower of heavy crimes. Even a newbie would grow exceptionally fast in this environment. For those working there for just a month, they would have been exposed to a number of heavy crime cases that would rival the total number of those at other stations in a year.
In just ten minutes, they had managed to apprehend many suspects. Captain Yan and the rest had also noted the mysterious disappearance of Xiang Nuan and Wen Qing. The crime scene investigators managed to find Chen Ge and other strangers' fingerprints at the scene. The police had also discovered a large amount of death notices with Xiang Nuan's name.
"You were here last night?" Both Captain Yan and Lee Zheng were staring at Chen Ge. They took on a different persona when they were working a case, and that brought some amount of pressure on Chen Ge.
"Wen Qing is the estate agent who is responsible for these two residential areas. She has worked here for ten years already. She's the one who told me most of the information that I handed over to you." Wen Qing's occupation meant that she needed to have a close relationship with the tenants there, so there was a chance that she would know about everything that had happened. Other than that, Wen Qing was now trapped on the other side of the door. The police could not summon her for questioning, so Chen Ge could come up with any story that he wanted.
"So, where is she now? Weren't you with her last night?" Lee Zheng peppered Chen Ge with questions. This time, the case involved so many people that even this experienced police officer who had been through a lot was quite nervous.
"Wen Qing noticed the strange actions of the tenants here a long time ago, but she was too scared to speak up because she had a feeling someone was onto her and might her or her son. However, she did not know who that person was."
"Someone was threatening her?" Even Captain Yan's expression changed. This case was getting worse the more he dug into it.
"Yes, you can see that from the flyers in the corridors all over the building that slander her reputation and the stack of death notices that were addressed to her house. There are some people who could not wait for her to die."
"Some people? More than one person?" Captain Yan very astutely captured the choice of words that Chen Ge used. "There are many people who wanted this poor woman dead? Is it because she found out about their secrets?"
"I do not know the details either. I am afraid you will have to find her and ask her in person." Chen Ge changed the subject. "But Wen Qing did mention something to do. She did say that the person that wanted to kill her was related to a hospital."
Chen Ge decided to bring up the non-smiler and the cursed hospital now. He could push all the blame behind the murders and the disappearance all on the cursed hospital. When Chen Ge could not find the solution, he decided to pin the blame on the cursed hospital.
After all, it was indeed the faceless doctor sent by the cursed hospital that framed the ghost fetus and killed Wen Qing; that was truth. Even if Chen Ge was given a lie detector test, he would pass with flying colors. Not only Wen Qing's disappearance, Chen Ge had also pinned all the wicked things that the ghost fetus had done onto the cursed hospital. The ghost fetus was corrupted by the hospital, but the ghost fetus was dead now, so the crimes committed by the ghost fetus should be shouldered by the hospital. That was quite sensible in Chen Ge's eyes.
Earlier, when Se Xin died mysteriously on the operating table, Captain Yan's people spotted the non-smiler on the surveillance camera outside the hospital. Then, they had once again spotted the presence of the non-smiler on the street outside of Jin Hwa Apartments. Combined with the 'crucial clues' given by Chen Ge, the investigative direction of the entire Jiujiang police department would be targeted at the cursed hospital.
Several murders were exposed, and the murderers were apprehended on the spot. The owner of Jiu Hong Housing Agency who rarely showed himself was also summoned to the crime scene. The police interrogated them one by one. This continued until the afternoon. Interestingly enough, after the police finished their questioning of Jiang Jiu, they had him sit together with Chen Ge to wait for the next round of questioning. Of the two of them, one was the last to see Wen Qing alive, and the other was the last to talk to Wen Qing on the phone.
The actual lynchpins of Western Jiujiang New Century Park and Eastern Jiujiang futuristic theme park were seated side by side. This was a scene that was hard to imagine. After the police left, when there were only the two of them in the room, Chen Ge leaned back in his chair and glanced sideway at Jiang Jiu next to him. Time had not left much of a trace on Jiang Jiu. He was supposed to be around the same age as Director Luo, but he appeared much younger than Director Luo. However, he was dressed his age. It made him look very formal.
"It is quite difficult to schedule a meeting with you. This is indeed a rare chance for us to meet." Chen Ge took out the comic like he was looking for reading material and casually flipped through it. Jiang Jiu did not reply. He appeared to think that it was beneath his level to speak to Chen Ge. Perhaps he might have responded if it was Director Luo.
"The ghost fetus that threatens you is no longer of this world." Chen Ge flipped the comic to the page where Zhang Yi was hiding and stopped.
When the term ghost fetus was mentioned, Jiang Jiu's hands trembled slightly, but he soon caught himself. "I do not know what you are talking about."
"If that were true, you would not have responded to my statement." Chen Ge stared at Jiang Jiu, and his pupils slowly narrowed. After he used Yin Yang Vision, the presence about him completely changed. Even the temperature inside the room started to drop.
"From how I see it, you have lost your mind from spending too much time designing the haunted house." Jiang Jiu refused to admit it no matter what. He turned his head to the side, but his body was shivering out of fear.
"I do not care about the rest. I only want to know one thing." Chen Ge stood up and looked down on Jiang Jiu. "Did you hear any information about my parents from the ghost fetus?"
Jiang Jiu was a pure businessman, for benefit and gain, he could accept working with a ghost. One could not expect honesty from such a person, but by giving him enough benefits, he could be urged to spill the beans on everything he knew. The room temperature continued to drop. While Jiang Jiu was hesitating, Chen Ge realized his own body temperature was dropping as well. That caused a twinge of fear to curl around his heart. He was reminded of a very bad memory.
"I have never heard the ghost fetus mention your name before, but he likes to make mud statuettes that resemble you. He appears to want to become you."
"Is that all? Then, did he mention anything about my parents?"
"He did go to find your parents before." This statement excited Chen Ge. It caused the blood in his veins to boil.
"When did that happen?"
"I cannot remember it that clearly anymore. I only know that after that incident, the ghost fetus never stepped into Western Jiujiang again." Jiang Jiu slowed down as he gradually calmed down. He tried to wrest the control away from Chen Ge. "I can tell you something even more important. The city of Jiujiang is very unique. Your parents were forced to stay here, or rather, they were not allowed to leave, due to some unique reason."
"They were forced to stay here because they were needed to guard over something." Chen Ge thought back on his more than twenty years of life on this earth, and his lips were pursed together. "Were they protecting me or the door at the haunted house?"
Jiang Jiu had quietly memorized everything Chen Ge had said. Naturally, that did not escape Chen Ge's notice either. Thankfully, he had the perfect solution for this problem.
"I did not want to do this initially, but you are too cunning, and I am afraid that you might use my words to harm in the future, so…" Chen Ge waved at Zhang Yi. "Make it quick."
Jiang Jiu had no idea what was happening. He frowned deeply. "Who… who are you talking to?"


The hearse with the weird odor slowed to a stop before the entrance. The sound of pebbles could be heard bouncing on the ceiling. There were footsteps coming from the corridor, and there seemed to be someone sawing next door. The door knob to the room rattled slightly, and the faucet in the bathroom kept dripping even though it had been screwed shut. There was a rubber ball that rolled on its own underneath the bed. Wet footsteps started to surface one after another on the floor. 
At 3 am, Chen Ge held a cleaver in his hand as he hid beside the room heater. The call he was trying to make was finally answered. "Landlord, is this what you meant by 'the house can be a little crowded at night'‽"
