Sometimes being famous, isn’t everything...

My name is Jay Black or perhaps John Black, 

and this my story.

Grabbing the vibrating phone, a soft pain runs over my stomach. Ignoring it I turn of my alarm and go back to sleep.

"MELANIE! I'm leaving!" Shouts my brother. He is in college and leaves after I do.
Processing what he said I grab my phone to see what time it is. Shit. I should be leaving now. I get up and rub my eyes before walking to turn the lights on. Squiniting at the sudden brightness I head to the bathroom. Walking to the toliet I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror. Ew. My hair is a mess and my masscara from yesterday is smeared under my eyes. 'I look hideous.'
After using the bathroom I go back to my room and open my closet to reveal a sea of black clothing. I grab a lace like undershirt that isn't too see through and a band T-shirt. Moving to pants I yank black ripped jeans from the top rod and throw them on my bed. Quickly I undress and throw on my clothes but as I'm putting on my pants I look down to see puffy red lines crossing over my uper thighs. My brain instantly shifts. 'You fuck up. This is what you deserve. You will never be beautiful. You will never leave a mark on this Earth. Honestly you don't even make a difference. What is one life going to do to an overpopulated world?' I drag up my pants as fast as possible and adjust my clothing in the mirror. I grab a chain from my desk and hook it onto my pant loops and sit down in front of my light up mirror. Grabbing my makeup I slam it onto my face not really caring what I look like since nothing can save my face. My pale face makes my black eyeliner stand out. I don't do it thick like a "typical emo" but I do wing out the end. I also grab a dark purple lipstick before getting up and grabbing socks. I walk out to brush my teeth and hair, head to the front and put my high top VANS on before grabbing my keys and backpack and leaving. In the garage I straddle my motercycle and shove my head into the helmet. Opening the door I back out before heading to the school.

Once arriving I see that there is still a crowd of people outside the school so I park my bike, take off my helmet, and grab my pack of cigarettes. I grab one and place it inbetween my violet lips before grabbing my lighter and burning the end. I take a deep breath and let the smoke fill my being calming my nerves ever so slightly. Chatter fills the air and already annoys the shit out of me. I put in my ear buds and turn on my music drowning out everyone else. I close my eyes and take another drag from the cig before letting it out slowly. I drop the bud to the ground and walk to the school with my bag slung over my right shoulder. 'Here we go.' I grab my tounge ringh between my teeth and pull as I approach hell on Earth. 

Walking through the big double doors I saw many girls look at me while whispering to their friends with an evil smirk on their face. The boys don't pay much mind to me and if they do it's to throw a wad of paper or pencil out me while yelling "GOTH." No guy ever pays attention to me unless they want to try and have a fun night. But nothing more than kissing has ever happened. Besides once. 'Every school's the same, but if that's true, where's the queen bitches?" Just as I think that, I find them. They are in a group gossiping amoung themselves with their jock boyfriends punching each other. They all look pampered and spoiled except for one who completely shocks me. He is dressed in a black leather jacket with a red loose tanktop. His black jeans are ripped and not super tight. His shoes are black high tops from some high end store I'm sure becuase of their stupid appearance. He has olive skin and dirty blonde hair. I can't see his eyes from here but I'm sure they are a light blue like every other basic white boy I've seen. I wasn't stunned by his looks, honeslty I can't even see his face from where I am standing, but I was suprised that this school already had a rebellious student. Normally when I go to school I am the ony bad girl there and no girl dares speak to me unless they want to impress some guy. They think that a punk look will suddenly attract the boring jocks. By the time I leave at least one guy has turned punk and has a good girl girlfriend who he cheats on, obviously. So to see this guy, I sense a challenge coming my way.

I realize that I am supposed to check into the office first and I see the door behind the group. Great. I prepare myself to walk over there, expecting them to insult me or something, but instead one of the girls pokes my shoulder. I flinch at her touch and take out one of my ear buds focusing my attention on her. She has light brown hair in a half up do with silver glitter in it, her make up is caked on and she has an obvious fake tan. She is pretty but she is trying too hard. Her shirt is a size to small and her shorts leave little to the imagination but I see a tattoo or a fallen angle on her thigh. She has long socks pushed down so they bunch just above her chuncky Air Force sneakers. 
"Hey!" She says in a fake cheery voice. "You should totally come to my party tonight! Seeing as your new it would be a great chance to get to know people!" She says with a weird look in her eye.
"No thanks." I say cooly and try to turn away but she grabs my wrist making me turn my head to face her. She doesn't realize that she is squeezing my cuts sending a fight or flight response through my body.
"Please! It will be fun!" She snaps her fingers and one of the other girls behind her gives her a flyer. 'She's crazy. What teen prints flyers for a party that I'm sure isn't legal.' She grabs the paper and shoves it in my hand that is curretly still trapped by her manicured hand. "This has all the information! Hope to see you there!" She says and lets go of my wrist.
 A burnig sensation rises up my arm and I feel something start to fall. I look down and a single drop of crimsion liquid falls onto the paper. I don't think anyone sees as I walk away but I look up to see the blonde *uck face looking at the paper. I walk quickly past him and head to the bathroom. 'The office can wait, I need to fix this.'

In the four regions within the Qingxi Villa District, even though they were constructed at different times, their overall designs and layouts were largely the same. In region three, other than the average land area being slightly smaller than region four, the overall infrastructure was about the same.
At Cao Shanshan's house, the main villa had a swimming pool about half as large as Ling Yun's. It seemed to be about two hundred square metres in an oval shape.
Ling Yun was too lazy to go around. As he carried Cao Shanshan into her villa, he jumped across the swimming pool that was about ten metres wide, landing onto the other side without a sound.
Cao Shanshan saw that Ling Yun had such amazing reflexes, and her mind and heart were even more excited. As she looked into Ling Yun's eyes, her own eyes completely reflected worship and admiration.
Very quickly, they arrived at the walls of the villa. Looking down, he asked gently, "Which room is yours?"
Cao Shanshan was blinded in her infatuation. Her face blushing a light pink, she lifted her finger and pointed at a window on the second floor. Unbelievingly, she asked quietly, "It's about four metres high. Can you reach it?"
Ling Yun smiled devilishly. Without answering, he hugged Cao Shanshan's round, hot soft curves. On the spot, he jumped lightly, flying above the red-tiled roof.
Even though Cao Shanshan was a hundred percent sure than Ling Yun would be able to reach it, she was still scared out of her wits. Her face drained of all its color. Her snow-white hands held tightly onto Ling Yun's clothes, afraid that she would come crashing through the skies.
Ling Yun smiled slightly. When they landed again, the both of them had already entered Cao Shanshan's bedroom that was overflowing with her feminine charms!
Cao Shanshan lived alone in the master bedroom on the villa's second floor. Just considering this room, it was about eighty square metres. Other than a three metre long round bed, it had a bathroom, wardrobe, sofa, tea table, television, computer and study table. It was even more complete than a regular person's living room.
In order to get the most sunlight, the bedroom's southern wall was a completely transparent full-length window that extended to the ground. "D*mn, that's some high-tech right there!" Ling Yun quipped quietly in his heart. It was truly the first time he had seen the luxuries of a truly wealthy family.
Cao Shanshan knew that her bedroom's soundproofing was very good. Hence, she talked in a slightly louder voice. "Ling Yun, other than my father and Cao Tianlong, no other man has ever stepped into my room before…"
As Cao Shanshan said this, her voice vaguely carried a sense of pride as if she were bragging about her achievements.
Ling Yun asked immediately, "Who's Cao Tianlong?"

Su Mo's token began vibrating. He was to fight in the fourth battle.

He took a deep breath and stretched his muscles. How had it all gone so wrong? The thought of dying lingered still, as did the cold. 

Vince stood with a grunt and stumbled into the bathroom to wash his face. Very few people modelled their avatar in Twilight after themselves. The game was realistic enough in its own right. Not to mention the blood and gore. It was no wonder most players wanted to disassociate from their characters as much as possible. Vince sought the opposite. His game avatar shared his messy blonde hair, the stubble and even the small scar over his lip. For him, Twilight was a second reality. A reality in which he was someone. A reality in which he had failed. Today had been a total disaster. The fiasco was probably all over the news already. He checked his phone and sure enough, articles were already popping up. 

'Light just got obliterated by the Dark!'

Vince sighed. It wasn't that rare for the Dark to win, but the media would blow everything up if it meant more clicks. Now it was up to the guild to control the damage to their image. 

Vince wore his projector suit, stood in front of the mirror and cycled through his clothes. White t-shirt and shorts, SOAD hoodie and jeans, pyjamas. He ended up downloading a black suit and pants, and the suit projected them onto him. 

The guild's executives would be waiting for him at their usual meeting place in less than an hour. What would he tell them? The PvP force would suffer a huge loss, and those that died would be forced to PvE. He decided not to think about it. Improvisation was never his strong suit, but it'd at least save him the stress for now.  

Vince left his apartment and took a detour to visit the hospital. He hadn't seen Sophia in a week, and worries circled his mind. She'd been admitted to a health center ten minutes away, so he walked. The pure white of the building jumped out among the dull gray of the city. The light inside was too bright for his eyes after the darkening gloom outside, enough perhaps to bring on one of his headaches. 

"Hey Vince." The receptionist handed him a keycard with a smile. Even some of the staff had come to know him after so many visits. 

"Hello. How are you?" Vince placed the keycard in his breast pocket.

"Same old," the man said and slid a scanner over. "I saw the news about the battle. Seems like you had it rough."

"You can't imagine." Vince swiped his card over it and heard the Ding of doom. That was another month's earnings gone, just like that. 

He waved the man goodbye and climbed the stairs to Sophia's room. There were commercial prints on the hospital walls, tasteful in the dull kind of way. Above every door he passed was a large plastic sign, dark with white lettering- no fancy fonts, just bold and all-caps. It was so new and spotless he felt like the whole building was just a projection meant to fool the eyes. A nurse slipped out of Sophia's room and saw him walking over. 

"How is she?" Vince asked. 

"Got her medication, so she's calm now," the nurse replied. There was an awkward silence. "She always asks for you, when she remembers."

A lump formed in his throat. "Now?" He asked. "Will she recognize me?"

The nurse shook her head. "I won't give you false hope." 

Vince simply nodded and let her tend to other patients. He stood facing the door, bracing himself to meet a stranger instead of a friend. His hands trembled as he used the keycard. 

Sophia didn't look his way. Her eyes were glued to a TV screen, where Vin's recent battle was being replayed. Her hair was dark, and cut short. So she won't hurt herself, the doctors had said. Even though she was his age her face was soft and her features fine, like a child's. 

He walked inside and the door slid closed behind him. There was not a lot to the room besides the television, the bed and an armchair next to it. Bland and impersonal. 

"Sophia?" He sat next to her. 

"I already took my pills," she said without turning.

Vince heart sunk in his chest. "I'm not a doctor. Just a friend." He tried to hold her arm but she jerked it away, finally glaring at him.

Her emerald eyes painted Vince with suspicion. There was a tinge of doubt and fear that cut deep inside him. That made him a stranger.

"I'm Vince. I'm an old friend here to see you." He spoke slowly, made it easier for her to follow.

"Oh, I'm sorry." She visibly relaxed. "I have this condition and I can't always remember things. You probably know already…"

"You don't need to apologize." Vince smiled at her.

When she had first been diagnosed, he was angry, refused to acknowledge it. He kept looking for parts of her that were not always there, pressuring her to speak thoughts she couldn't form. It took a long time for him to develop the patience she needed to interact.

"What are you watching?" Vince looked up at the screen. 

"It's Twilight!" Sophia hugged her knees and raved like a child showing off a new toy. 

"And who are all these people fighting?" He asked. Sophia's doctor had told him to push for conversation whenever he could; it helped exercise the brain.

"Do you live under a rock? It's the battle of Dusk. Look at how cool the black guys are!"

Ouch. He deserved that. "It seems very interesting. You said it's a game?"

"Of course it's interesting! It's an online game where you can go to a different world."

"Do you wish you could go?" He asked. "To a different world?"

The smile left her face and her knees slipped from her grasp. She knit her brows and seemed lost in thought for the longest time. Vince saw the glint of tears forming in her eyes. "Will you take me with you?" 

A chill run down his spine. "Sophia?" He reached over and touched her. 

Even if for a brief moment, she had remembered him. He could see it in her eyes. She wanted to connect, but the words floated in the air just beyond her grasp, unreachable. Her eyebrows knit together as she tried to hold onto that stray memory. 

"I'll show it to you one day!" He took her hand in his and rushed the words out while they still held meaning. "I promise you!" 

"You seem like a good friend." Sophia gave him a smile, soft and gentle. She was gone again, lost in the maze of her injured mind.

The tears burst forth like water from a dam, spilling down his face. The muscles of his chin trembled and he looked away, as if her absence could soothe him. A painful static surfaced in his head once more, a side effect of the constant fear and stress he lived with. 

"Please don't cry." Sophia touched his shoulder. "Did I say something wrong?"

"No, it's not your fault." Vince held back his tears and got up. He planted a quick kiss on her forehead and turned to leave. Being with her dug up a scar others couldn't see. A scar of guilt etched deep inside.

Peter lay on his back for quite a while feeling the pain on his nose. He did not move from the place where he had stumbled the second time. Lights coming from the outside were blocked by the thick curtain of the two large windows and made the brightness of the room subdued. The things that transpired moments ago preoccupied his mind.

He remembered too the payment he had to receive, and it dawned on him that he had nothing to expect now. Slowly he rose to his knees and painstakingly crawled to the bottom side of the bed to peek at the body. He wanted to see if the old man had made any slightest change of movement. Peter was hoping for the slimmest of sign that the Don was not dead. Evidently the body had not moved and it had not given a sign that it would move again. Overcoming his dread, he crawled towards the legs of the old man and touched one of them expecting a warm flesh. The reality came back to him immediately. The Don's body was lifelessly cold.

Peter weakly slumped on the floor beside the bed. He commanded his head, Think, think, think. If he had to leave the place he must first remove the signs of his presence, the signs that placed him at the site of the crime. Just like in the movies he had watched, the killer cleaned the crime scene of any evidence that would point back to him.

But I did not kill him!

Whatever protestation he would make to the authorities, the overwhelming evidence were all over—the fact that he was with the old man at the time of his death— bore witness that he was the killer. Who was he to be believed, he, a poor garbage picker with nothing to lose and everything to gain. The motive could be easily established: he killed the old man while asleep and robbed him.

He scanned the surrounding area to look for what he might have missed. The scattered gym bags were then rearranged to their original position near the bed. He remembered the bags were heavy so he dragged them on the floor rather than lifted them. The question again entered his mind. Why are they so heavy? Unrestrained by his curiosity, he unzipped the first bag.

Old newspaper prints covered the top layer; Peter removed them casually. When the top of the content was exposed it made his eyes expanded roundly in disbelief.

The discovery made Peter's hair stood on end. He had seen it before. It was just like in the movies all over again. Bars of tightly compressed white powder packed inside plastic wrappings were neatly arranged inside the bag. He was not sure though if they were what he thought they were. He had no idea how to find out if they were really drugs. Another bag was opened and its contents were similar to the first. He slightly lifted the third gym bag when he tried to push it near the two. He noticed it was lighter—then he remembered—it was the same gym bag that he had carried from the car to the house.

Peter opened it.

The opened bag overwhelmed him. He was dumbstruck. Inside were bundles of 1000 peso bills. Wrapped around each bundle was a piece of paper on the surface of it was printed the words "100 Thousand" and below it the name of a bank. The bundles were stacked on top of the other and arranged methodically. His heart started to beat faster; his fists closed tightly; his muscles constricted; and a mixture of hot and cold engulfed him. He sat paralyzed staring at the bagful of money. When he recovered from his shock, he rose and sat at the edge of the bed. It had dawned on him that the nice, soft-spoken old Don turned out to be a big time drug dealer. He was now sure of it. The white powdery stuff plus the money pointed to that direction. It had complicated his whole situation. His initial concern was to get away from the place, get away from a dead body, but it seemed fate had been playing on him the whole time and teasing him.

Alright, you tempted me, I'll act on it! The consequence! The consequence! How about the consequence?!

He paced the floor back and forth to calm his nerves from the arising tension. He had to put his brain to work to escape from what he had already considered an unfolding farce, but first he had to collect himself together. Cool water splash on his face would help, he thought, and strode into the bathroom. In front of the mirror he saw his face was a wreck; his long wavy hair was a mess; the nose that suffered two hits were reddish and swollen; traces of dried blood clung to the top of his upper lip; and the bandages on both writs were smeared with oil. He was on the act of pouring the rubbing alcohol to remove the oil— which he got from the medicine cabinet together with a roll of paper towel from the bathroom— when a thought broke his planned action. He paused for a long moment debating the idea that suddenly flashed and entered his mind.

Life of a young man turned upside down by his own choices. The rules of morality hindered him from achieving a good life for himself and for his loved ones.


Galaxy had entered the ventilation pipe, which was a very strange environment for it. The pipe was a straight channel made up of cold metal walls. Cool wind from outside was breezing through the channel and touching its cheeks gently. 
Galaxy bowed down and noticed that the metal wall below was covered with a thin layer of dust, and several rows of paw prints of small animals could be seen from one end to the other end of the pipe, and they disappeared at the corner. The paw prints were very messy, which were leading in both directions of the pipe, and it seemed that the paw prints belonged to different little animals.
