While doing some pretty standard paperwork Geneva pops her head in and says " hey Adrian the Colonel is struggling to interrogate that pilot we dragged in wanna watch"

After putting away my work we run to interrogation and see the colonel yelling at the very cute North Korean pilot while pacing and smacking the table while saying things like "If you don't tell me where your friends are hiding right now I'll have to get physical with you and nobody wants that do we hehehe"

After he says that the pilot responds in Korean  " Please Sir I'm telling you what you want to know but you aren't even trying to listen and you don't even have a translator for this interrogation. I mean fuck are you even qualified to hold that rank or did you just weasel your way up in rank politically" thankfully I learned to speak Korean while stationed in South Korea so I'm translating all of this for Geneva while we're both laughing our asses of while watching this until I see the Colonel raise his hand to slap the pilot so I rush in to stop him.


"That's enough Colonel you are acting like an idiot I mean fuck you didn't even call for a translator even after finding out she doesn't speak English so back off and let me translate or do you need to start a committee for that asshole"

While looking at me like he's never been confronted with his own stupidity before he says " Go ahead Private see if I care but just know I'm going to report this"

"Fine go away now sir" he walks away and I say in Korean " Hello Ma'am I am Private Class Adrian Nygaard and I am here to interrogate you now please what is your name ma'am"

"Finally someone who speaks Korean I am Captain Ling Kwan but you may call me Kwan and I would like to defect to your ship and in exchange I will provide information on where my former comrades are based and the location of a habitable planet and all I ask is to be allowed to fly a ship,not be treated like a prisoner, and just because you are extremely handsome I'd like a kiss now how much of that will I actually get" she says with a relieved smile on her face.


"Well I can give you the kiss" I say as I give her a short kiss on the lips" but I have to ask my commanding officer about the other stuff okay Kwan"

"Of course Adrian I understand it's what I expected"

After she agreed with me I went to the General's office and asked him "Sir I managed to get the North Korean Pilot to defect but her conditions are that she wants to continue being a pilot and to simply be treated as a person oh and a kiss"

General Smith looks at me looking confused and says "wait is that it, like you're being serious with me"

"Yes sir that's it so is it approved sir"

He thinks for a minute and says "Sure but she's your responsibility understand oh and I'm reinstating you as a Captain because those charges were total horseshit so goodbye kid"


After making my way back to interrogation I tell Kwan " your requests are all approved but you are under my command and you are now a lieutenant and you will have to take english classes is that satisfactory Kwan"

She answers "sir yes sir"

After setting Kwan up with a bunk, uniform,and set up her daily english class I go back to my bunk put back on my Captain's strips and finish up my paperwork before going to bed.

Jaemin, Mark, BamBam, Jackson, Jinyoung, Jaebum and Yugyeom were having their first group meeting. The name of their group, was GET7. JYP wasn't present due to an urgent matter that came up, since he was actually supposed to be there.

Which, by the way, greatly confused him, wasn't the name of the group supposed to be GOT7? Why has it suddenly become GET7?

Was it his influence? 

He didn't know, but he did know that he didn't like the name and so did the others. 

They were currently talking with each other, getting to know everyone. Their manager had already left the room so that they could have a good conversation.

Mark and Jackson were also busy showing off their martial arts skills.

Jackson interrupted Mark, "But hyung, can you do this?" He performed his usual, go-to front flip that he performs almost everytime when he gets asked to show a talent.

Mark replied, "Anyone can do that."

Jackson said, "Oh yeah? Show-" Jaebum was apparently annoyed with them and spoke up, "Come on, let's focus everybody."

Jaemin laughed and said, "As the leader, isn't that my phrase, Jaebum-ah?"

"Why use informal language? I'm your hyung Minjae-ya, I was born in 1994, you in 1995," said Jaebum questionably

Jaemin grinned, "I'm your sunbae in both the company and the entertainment business and I am also the leader of this group, doesn't it seem fit to adress you as such to not get the hierarchy messed up? I need to have my fair share of power to control you all don't I?"

Jackson was as loud as always, "We are all friends here, let there be no hierarc- Wait, wait, wait, Bboy King, you are born in 1994?"

"Mhm, why?" Jaebum asked.

"Then why have I been calling you hyung? I am born in 1994 as well!"

Jaemin thought, "Oh no, the notorious 1994 line dispute between Jackson and Jaebum had already taken place even before they debuted..."

Jaebum stated, "I'm born in January, I am a fast born!"

Jackson replied, "What is a mere two months difference?"

Jaemin threw a comment, "Why copy GFRIEND like that."

"What do you mean, what is GFRIEND?" asked Jackson.

The rest also all liked the name, so Jaemin eventually said, "Let's convince JYP then."

And after about an hour long discussion, it was all set.

The name of their group would be GOT7.

He exceeded the others by quite a margin, but they actually all had godlike appearances for normal Korean standards. They were definitely one of the top three boy groups with the best visuals, if not the best group.

GOT7 could be called a very special group.

Their choreo, was without a doubt, the hardest of all K-pop groups. 

Mainly due to the fact that they use tons and tons of martial arts and gymnastics moves in their choreographies. And their routine is in general, just hard to do while also singing. Their intro was the most respectable out of their routines, Mark was literally pushed sideways while he did a backflip, eventually flying over two members to then somehow still land without slipping.

This was the biggest reason that made them so popular in the beginning. No other groups did anything like this.

Jackson and Mark were the one's who did all of the flips, but that was all in the past.

Jaemin was now also added into the mix.

If you take into account the hard choreo's, exceptional visual quality, originality and overall uniqueness of it.

You get GOT7

And that wasn't even all.

GOT7 was the exact definition of; "meme lords".

BamBam was constantly dabbing, Jackson was just a crazy, funny, sweet and pure nutjob, Yugyeom was the giant maknae, Mark the cute hyung, Jinyoung the handsome savage, ** the cool guy, and currently, Jaemin. The absolute lady-killer of the group, an extremely handsome badass.

If this was all added together...

Imagine the craziness that would present itself on variety shows and V-live streams.....

That aside, their debut.

It was coming soon, very soon.

January 2014, it was going to be crazy.

When JYP finally announces the members of the group, the world would go crazy.

Jaemin did not believe that GOT7 would be less popular than it was before, that would simply be impossible. His fame was already over the roof, while the others were also well known in the country, although not as much as him.

That was like saying that if seven hobo's made a group, that it would somehow get more popular than a group with actual talented performers.

Adam Pokes my shoulder and asks "Can you meet me on the roof after class? I have something to ask you." I nod and go back to my book. I look over at his book and it's in English and ask " Do you know how to speak Korean at all?" He shakes his head. I say "We have all the same classes so I'm going to be your translator until you can speak Korean, Okay?" He nods his head and I hand him his book back to him.
          The bell rings and I say to Adam " I'll show you around the school then we will go to the roof, I'll go right over there for a sec then we will go, Okay?" He nods. I walk over to James and say " Hey I'm going to show Adam the new kid around the school so I have to skip lunch because he only understands English, Okay?" He nods and I walk back over to Adam and say "Let's get going."

Since the oil price was fluctuating over the world now, Zeynep Oilfield Service agreed with the Azerbaijani government to produce natural gas from District seven, which had been tested for extraction. The Azerbaijani government hurriedly announced that District seven's estimated amount of gas deposits was 10 billion m3. Until 2006, the government had imported gas from Gazprom, Russia's large oil and gas company. However, after the discovery of gas reservoir underneath Azerbaijani territorial waters, Azerbaijan now became an exporting country. It was natural that the government was so proud to announce their new resource discovery at District Seven.

The estimated daily production rate was 5.6 million m3 which was the amount that summed up to 2 billion m3 a year, the buried amount was what they could produce steadily for five more years. Although natural gas price particularly changed often, based on the standard of 2010, they were sold at 250 dollars for 1,000 m3, and every year they could make 500 million dollars from gas sales. They could make more money if the price fluctuates like this time.

When developing oil, the Azerbaijani government and oil corporation's profits were split at the ratio of 75% and 25%. Even if subtracting the pipeline installing fees and taxes, Yaniv would earn 80 million dollars a year, and since Youngho's share was 5%, he would get 4 million dollars for his portion. They say that oil exploration is either a jackpot or nothing.  Since it was a success, Youngho would be rolling in money soon.

The ones that spoke English although not fluently, were already sent to guard Baku's famous CEO, and the security guards sent as security supervisors of District six and seven were having a hard time since they mostly relied on translator apps on their smartphones and communicated using body languages.

Among the recent ten new recruits from Korea, three people could speak English but since they were still being trained for localization on Zeynep Farm, it did not seem right to place them in the work field.

After their work shifts were finished, the Korean recruits were busy to learn Azerbaijani and English. Since Youngho was also learning Russian from Kim Ilkwon he could not blame them. He knew learning a language was difficult, especially when they have to learn while working in the field with local people in a foreign land. Once the language problem was resolved, life in a foreign land would be half a success because there would be nothing to fear once people could communicate with others. Not being able to communicate would make people feel timid and act passively. If that continued for long, people's personalities could turn passive. In fact, there were a lot of Korean people who had been living in foreign lands for a long period but many of them would not even dare to go out alone due to communication problems, unless they lived in somewhere like Los Angeles, where there was a lot of Korean population residing in Koreatown.

The second floor of the Zeynep Farm's mansion or the management building was under renovation. Cha Insoo had called a renovation specialist and was making a plausible home for Youngho and Fatima.

Ji Zhiyao originally thought that this was a rumor, yet with one look today, he realized that knowing a man by his reputation is not as good as meeting him in person, Hyun Woo was very deserving of his status. 
After the greeting, Hyun Woo probably realized that they could not understand Korean and switched directly to speaking English. Ji Zhiyao felt much more comfortable, though his English wasn't considered superbly good, but it was much better than not understanding anything at all.

Hyun Woo said, "The club added half an hour to your arrival time, we thought you guys would arrive in a while, so we weren't mentally prepared at all. If there has been any negligence, we ask for your kind understanding." 
Mo Huaifeng nodded. "Thank you."
Hyun Woo then smiled to the others at the back, and then did an inviting gesture.
Everyone walked into the little villa together.
The first level of the villa was very much the same as that in Mix's base, it was made up of the main portions of a living room, kitchen and training room. With the exception of some differences in decor and structure, everything else was very similar. It was evident that much thought had gone into this arrangement. 
Ji Zhiyao then looked towards the direction of the stairs, though he could not see the next level clearly, but he knew that the second level was probably bedrooms and same for the third. It was probably one level for Vita members and the other for Mix.
Six people sat in the living room, seeing them walk in, they all stood up to bow. The two who appeared slightly older were both wearing tracksuits, especially similar to how Kang Kyung Chwa used to dress.
Ji Zhiyao guessed that they were probably Vita battleteam's coach and stats analyzer.
Mo Huaifeng conversed with those two people, then made known their identities to everyone in Mix. Ji Zhiyao was right, they were Vita battleteam's coach Park Jun Ji and stats analyzer Lee Sung Dae. 
Mix battleteam's stats analyzer and coach shook hands and bowed to them respectively, then everyone sat down. A total of three large sofas in the living room was just enough to accommodate everyone.
The few members from Vita battleteam who were better in English were only Hyun Woo, top-laner Lucia and support Qee. Hyun Woo even knew a little Chinese. Jungler Wu and ADC Sung Min only spoke Korean. Despite so, it still relieved quite a big burden from Mo Huaifeng who was translating concurrently.
Both teams made their introductions. When everyone was done, Park Jun Ji looked towards Ji Zhiyao and suddenly asked, "You are Mix battleteam's jungler reserve?"
Ji Zhiyao confusedly watched as he chattered on, yet he could not understand anything at all and could not help but turn towards Mo Huaifeng with look of seeking help. Before Mo Huaifeng spoke, Hyun Woo smiled and said, "Coach asked if you are Mix battleteam's jungler reserve?"
Mo Huaifeng narrowed his eyes.
Hyun Woo had used English, Ji Zhiyao understood him and nodded slightly.
Park Jun Ji continued to speak for a bit, after listening to him, Hyun Woo said to Ji Zhiyao, "Because Kang Kyung Chwa sunbae is coach's senior, before Mix battleteam came for the exchange, he had mentioned your name to coach. As such, coach watched several videos of your gameplay and he thinks that you are very outstanding." 
Ji Zhiyao could more or less understand what Hyun Woo said and smiled to express his thanks. "Thank you for the compliment." 
Park Jun Ji nodded slightly and did not continue to spend time on such small talk, instead returned to interacting with Mo Huaifeng, the stats analyzer and their coach.
Beside him, Xiao secretly asked Ji Zhiyao, "What did the Korean coach say to you?"
Ji Zhiyao boasted without shame, "He said my talent can't be found even amongst 100 professional players, sooner or later I will surpass Captain and rank as top jungler internationally!"
"Bullsh*t, please sober up quickly! It's so impossible to praise someone this way on the very first meeting!" 
Ji Zhiyao replied very seriously, "It's true, I'm not lying, I'm a dog if I lied."
The look in Xiao's eyes instantly became that of half belief and half doubt, he glanced complicatedly at Ji Zhiyao, then at Park Jun Ji. 
Ji Zhiyao was calm and poised, allowing him to examine as he liked.

Mr. Sunshine centres around a man who was born into slavery in Joseon but escaped to the United States after the 1871 Shinmiyangyo (U.S. expedition to Korea). He becomes a United States Marine Corps officer and returns to Joseon after the Spanish-American war. While in Joseon, he meets and falls in love with an aristocrat's daughter, who is part of the Righteous Army. At the same time, he discovers a plot by foreign forces to colonize Korea and soon, he becomes embroiled in the fight for Joseon’s sovereignty.

Normally, it shouldn't be too hard for ordinary folks to walk for a couple hours. However, the situation now wasn't normal. It was so eery and dreadful, such that it built onto people's anxiety. It affected everyone, the fighters and me included. It was more of mental fatigue than physical. We had to stop for a break. We found a stationary store and used it to hide and rest for a while.
     
     The couple that joined us the latest didn't seem to have eaten anything for a day. I took my energy bars and water. I handed them to the couple. They received them with gratitude and devoured them in an instant.
     
     The store was not big so when more than fifty people suddenly flooded in it was immediatelly full. Since everybody needed a rest, it was pretty quiet.
     
     I took this chance to introduce myself to the fighter group. With the exception of a single translator, they weren't Korean. Unfortunately, only a few of them could speak English. Davi was the best English speaker while Traikun only spoke a bit of English. Language problem aside, they were actually quite friendly.
     
     There was one proverb I learned in the past, it went 'be like the bamboo, the higher you grow the deeper you bow'. It taught us to be humble the further we grow. Traikun and Davi were an example of this kind of men. They're strong yet modest at the same time.
     
     I took out my energy bars and crackers and then shared them with anyone who wanted. Practically, I took out every single piece of food I had. They were finished in no time.
     
     Ten minutes after we entered the store, there was an argument between the Korean. Some people were talking in angry tones to each other. I noticed that on one group there were people like that handsome masculine-looking man and the short haired pretty while the others were some ordinary looking people. Jeong Yewon was in the middle of the argument as well.
     
     Seo Daho left the argument area and sat beside me. I pointed to the handsome man and the pretty woman because I thought I saw them somewhere and asked Seo Daho about their identity.
     
     "Oh him? That's Choi Doowon. Big shot actor. Have you never seen his movie? Anyway, he has a lot of backing so he used to having it his way. He said we're in this situation because we kept picking up people. Like we did to you," Seo Daho explained, "Don't mind him though. He's always been a prick."
     
     "The girl is Min Songhee. Well, long story short, she's the female version of Choi Doowon. Only difference is that Choi bullies people with his backing, Min uses her... assets."
     
     I watched as the argument just went back and forth without getting escalated from mere argument. At least they were still sane enough to try to keep their voices down.
     
     We rested for another ten minutes before getting ready to go. When we exited the store we took the same formation as before. Because of the arguments I could feel a bit of tension between the Korean. I felt lucky that I didn't know enough of the language to understand the detail of their quarrel.
     
     One of the bus driver was leading the group through the roads. He knew the way like it's the back of his hand. Traikun and Davi were on point as before. Every time they suspected something up ahead, we changed direction. 
     
     Just because we had many people who knew how to fight didn't mean we were able to go blindly. To be safe, it took several men to fight one purger, but what if we encountered a dozen purgers at the same time? That was why we need to exercise caution.
     
     Just like that, we traveled closer and closer to our destination. If my calculation was correct, we should soon be arriving near one of the two bridges that I saw on the GPS earlier.
     
     I never thought we would be so lucky as to not encounter any obstacle at all. This kind of luck should be considered comparable to winning a lottery. It was rare and almost inconceivable. And I was right. About half an hour passed when trouble finally found us. And it was not little trouble like earlier encounters.
     
     Three purgers appeared from the road in front of us. We didn't get the chance to hide. When they saw us they immediately ran after us. They were making high-pitched sound while running. Its noise was loud and heart-wrenching. Were they announcing our existence? Was it like 'lunch is here' or 'food spotted' or something similar because right away two more purgers broke through glass doors from the opposite end of road.
     
     Being pinned down by five purgers from the front and back was terrible news for this group. I could see the faces of Traikun and Davi were really ugly. The other fighters' expressions were even worse. I fully believed this group could actually fight them. But the worst thing happened, panic had spreaded out among the non fighters.
     
     "Run!" somebody shouted.
     
     The civilians immediately fled to another road intersecting with our current one. Some people were screaming in terror. This, to me, was something really foolish to do while running away. Everyone should just run as fast as they can, focused on surviving, why would there be any need of screaming?
     
     The fighters had no choice but to run along. They couldn't just stay and fight here while the people they're protecting ran far away. I would've help them fight but It didn't matter much now.
     
     Choi Doowon was among the fastest to run away, leaving the rest behind. The way he ran show that he was a physically fit person. Davi sprinted ahead, catching up with people in the front. I was amazed, this guy could really be fast if he wanted to. He surveyed and then directed the people on the front to one of the buildings on the road. They entered the building which had only one door and metal barred windows. 
     
     At this time, I didn't know about Davy's choice of escape route but later when I did know I praised him in my mind. He had the same idea I had yesterday. Davi wasn't easily panicked and was quite fast to assess the surrounding.
     
     Because the building was located after another turn of the street, the monsters that were running at our back could not see it. Several tens of people managed to get inside the building. However, not everyone was fast runners. More than ten people got left behind.
     
     I could run much faster than anyone here but I stopped after I saw some people were falling behind. Jeong Yewon also stopped and encouraged people to run faster. Instead of running faster, two girls tripped and fell. Jeong Yewon and me both ran back. So was Traikun and another fighter.
     
     The purgers were getting nearer. The distance between those monsters and the girls were probably only twenty meters. I reached them before anyone and immediately picked up one of the fallen girls. It was easy for me to lift her up. All of us were now very near with the purgers, about ten meters or so. Traikun lifted the other girl while the other fighter threw his weapon at the incoming purger. The purger wasn't hurt but it was slightly delayed.
     
     We ran, carrying the girls to the building. Choi Doowon saw us coming and immediately closed the door. I was shocked to see his action. Fortunately when I reached the door, it was opened again. One of the fighter who were already inside opened it and let us in. Jeong Yewon, Traikun and Davi, with all the rest of our group finally arrived.
     
     Because of the short delay due to the shuting door incident our distance was too near and the purger saw the last of us getting into the building. The purgers were now banging on the door. It was a thick wooden door, but I didn't think it would hold for long. Some of the purgers were now also attacking the barred windows.
     
     Bang! Bang!
     
     Davi, Traikun and all the fighters were standing at the front line, holding their weapons. I could see that even they felt various degree of fear. Their hands were slightly trembling, after all we're trapped.
     
     Compared to the fighters at the front the others were even worse. Some began sobbing and knelt down limply. Jeong Yewon was holding hands with one of the female celebrity. Seo Daho was looking at the door intensely. Choi Doowon, stood at the far end, was cursing ceaselessly.
     
     Bang! Bang! Bang!
     
     "Everyone, get back!" Davi instructed to the non fighters. Nobody wanted to fight the monsters but if it really got down to it, then the fighters stood the best chance of repelling them.
     
     The civilians didn't tarry. With some of them still screaming foolishly everytime a banging sound was heard, they moved to the back until they reached the wall. I already put down the girl I carried so she could join the civilian group. I crept my way to near the front after this.
     
     Bang! Skreeeeee!
     
     The door was finally broken and a purger forced itself in. Davi and Traikun both held the monsters at bay by attacking it from both sides. Their action kept the purger from rushing in and, therefore, blocked the entrance from the others.
     
     The purger was struggling to get free but didn't succeed. Both Davi and Traikun were very good at their blocks. They were both physically strong and they weren't trying to take the purger down. They're focusing on stopping the purger's advance.
     
     I frowned on this. They should have killed it immediately. Just like they did before. I understood that the fighting area was limited and it wasn't easy for a third person to join but this tactic would only make Traikun and Davi tired while the monster could keep going with its better stamina.
     
     The metal bars were finally creaking and breaking. The glass of the windows was already broken too. This cause the softhearted people inside to scream louder in fear. The ones with stronger mentality were preparing by grabbing anything that could be use as weapon.
     
     'Looks like I have to jump in', I thought. So I reached inside my backpack to take my police knife.
     
     Rattattattatta!
     
     Suddenly sounds of gunfire were heard.
     
     The purgers that were originally trying to break in now shifted their focus to outside. They left the windows and door. Loud firing sounds were mixed now with screeching and long growling voices of the purgers.
     
     Seeing that no other purger was at the door, Davi and Traikun used this chance to lure the one they were fighting deeper into the room. Two other fighters managed to sneak in from behind the monster and delivered their sword into its back. The purger screamed and swung its arms around causing the four people surrounding it taking a step back to dodge the powerful swing. Immediately after dodging they attacked it at the same time.
     
     How could an injured monster stood against the onslaught of four fighters? It went down.
     
     Shouts were heard from outside. Judging from the faces of the Korean, I guessed the shouts meant something good. Choi Doowon suddenly emerged from behind and shouted back. He went outside the door, the other people were following behind.
     
     There, on the road in front of the building, were two armored vehicles and several soldiers. The purgers were laying dead on the street. They were talking to the people from our groups.
     
     "We're saved," Jeong Yewon told me with a smile.
     
     "I guess we are," I replied.
     
     But how were they gonna fit everyone into the armored cars? The answer to my question came right away as one the soldiers motioned to someone around the corner. An army truck appeared.
     
     We were all brought onto the truck and immediately departed.
     
     The sound of the vehicles were attracting several monsters on the way, but they were taken care of by the guns. One or a couple purgers every single attack meant nothing to the soldiers with superior weapons.
     
     Compared to the bus, the military vehicles were more robust and able to handle more situations. The soldiers were coordinated and good. They were fast and efficient when clearing the road whenever there were obstacles.
     
     Soon, we saw the bridge. Murmurs of relieve were heard among us. We crossed the bridge and arrived at what I'd guess a temporary and hastily built military outpost. It also served as refugee camp.
     
     They were setting up blockades started right at the end of the bridge straight until further to the front. I guessed they did the same thing on the other bridge too. This felt strangely similar to the one bridge I crossed alone this morning, the one that failed.
     
     They brought us to a place near the front line. There were many buildings here. I couldn't tell what every single buildings were before yesterday since the building or store's names were written in Korean. That being said, it's easy to guess what building I was in now. It was a small transit hotel. We were registered and given medical care should we need one.
     
     I got a pretty good glimpse of the military status here. There were really not many soldiers. My rough count was that they were about a thousand, give or take. I later learned that they lost a good amount of soldiers back at the bridge where I found those hundreds of free marbles. They also lost their tanks. Based on what I saw here, the best weaponry they had here were probably those big machine guns at the end of the bridge. My grandfather would know the types and names of these guns, not me though.
     
     We were informed that this wasn't the only military outpost built. They managed to built several defense lines and refugee camps. This was good, I thought. The purgers weren't bulletproof. As long as we kept at it, we might push them back. 
     
     On top of that, the American managed to get a satellite picture of our world with the new lands and, I assumed, shared it to many countries. I hoped they had time to fight back. A full military assembly would be different from what we had here and now.
     
     Well, I was thinking too simple, I knew that, but I could hope right? This hope would carry me through the tough time. The doom that the god started would not be as simple as some mindless strong monsters going around eating people. It would be more than that.
     
     After the registration, we were brought further deep near the airport area. This was where we saw ocean of people. There were probably thousands if not tens of thousands of people here. As far as my eyes see, were people.
     
     Their faces were that of confusion and uncertainty. Despair was a common theme here. They were safe for the time being but their homes, loved ones, their very lives were destroyed. None of us knew what was in store for us in the future.
     
     Admittedly, some people were still under the illusion that everything would be alright soon. Though, judging from the atmosphere here, most were feeling that their future were pretty bleak. I should say it's our future because everyone was affected directly, me included.

The size of the United States is bigger than anyone can ever imagine.
How big is it you ask? It made me, who was born and raised in Seoul, feel as if I came from the countryside.
"The goal is Division 2, understood?"
"…"
To begin with, American College Basketball is categorized in 15 different divisions.
From those 15 divisions, it is then divided anywhere between 10 to 30 conferences. Each conference contains 10~20 different official college teams. This means there are at least 1,110 different teams associated.
My goodness. How does that even make sense?
"The audition is 3 days long. Don't overthink it though. You have to control the pace."
"Understood."
Ever since I was a junior in high school, my parents and I secretly prepared to move to America. We have been working on a contract with David Jung, who is a Korean man but native to the United States. He has been sending videos of my performance on the court to different colleges.
As a result, starting today, I will begin a 3-day workout (a period where you show your skills and abilities in from of scouts or team officials) where 200 College basketball teams will be observing me.
Although excited when he first heard this, David thought the situation was worse than what he had imagined.
The highest level is NCAA Division 1 and right below would be the NCAA Division 2.
The number of Colleges in NCAA Division 1 and NCAA Division 2, the very best and second best respectively, can be counted with your hands because of how difficult they are to attain.
220 teams would be more teams than middle school, high school, and college combined in South Korea.
"Let's start by slowly warming up. Hmm? Hey! Jo!!"
In the middle of giving support and encouragement, David began walking towards a baldheaded man spewing English from his mouth.
That man may be the person David had been talking about.
"Haha! Hold on! Min-Hyuk, come over here for a second!"
"…"
After some time, David, who was pleasantly laughing, called me over to him. Therefore, I walked over next to him casually with a natural expression on my face.
As this black guy with big bulky hands gripped my hand to shake it, he gave me a slightly surprised look and began saying something in English. At the same time, I turned to David with a look asking for help.
I had no idea what they were saying.
Although I diligently studied English for 2 years, the people in America speak way too fast for me to keep up. The fact that they used words that I didn't learn in school, strange sentences and phrases just made me even slower to follow.
However, David assured me there was no need to worry too much and soon enough I will be adjusted. Does that mean I'll slowly start to understand? I am also hoping that I can catch on quickly.
"They're saying that you're taller than they expected. You seem to be taller than what you have in your profile information?"
"Huh? Oh yeah, I grew about 4 cm this year."
"He said…"
As someone noticed my need for a translator, their eyes widened, as they slowly raised their hand with their thumbs hidden.
"That's nice."
This much I could understand.
"!@##$$"
Damnit! What are they saying?
"They're asking if you are 6'7" now."
"How tall am I if I'm 6'7"?"
And why do the people here not use centimeters and kilograms? Inches and pounds are metrics that I am not familiar with.
"Around 201cm?" David said, "202cm to be exact.'

As another period of silence came, another quick conversation came as David explained the situation.
"They're asking if you took your shoes off?"
"Isn't that normal?"
Oh yeah! That's right!
David has given me a lot of information about American Basketball. Among these, David gave me a few "physical conditions" that are important among the players.
Surprisingly, one's ability to jump high was not very important to them. In fact, the quality they emphasize as most important is lane agility and the time it takes to travel from one end of the court to another.  
An individual's height without shoes on and their wingspan are considered to be very important elements.
Therefore, when they measure your wingspan, you stand upright with your arms stretched from side to side.
"So that means you're about 6'8" when you have shoes on. Oh right! You see, the people here…"
Oh, that David. Everything is good about him, however, sometimes he could be overwhelming.
Anyways, David eventually revealed the identity of the bald-headed man from earlier. He was a scout from the University of San Diego, named Bill Hauzer.
Bill, you say? I liked the name because it's easy to remember.
"He wishes you luck!"
"Huh? Oh! Erm… thank you?"
"Hahaha. Good luck, kid."
As he patted my shoulders and turned away, my official warming up began.
Although it's been a whole week since I got here, I took that time to get my body used to the American-style workouts. From stretching, all the way to training methods, everything was completely different and unfamiliar compared to what I did in Korea.
That being said, I had to get used to this no matter what. I did not come all the way here just to fail.
"Come on, Kim! Come on!"
As I did the running and stretching, I felt as if I was a monkey trapped in a zoo. Each and every step and movement I made, the scouts were either taking pictures or were busy conversing with the other scouts.
As some scouts were conversing on their phones, there was one named Bryan Miller who was engaged with the players to help and encourage them.
The two words "keep focus" was heard plenty of times and could be easily understood.
"Great! Again!"
How do I put this? Bryan continued to be a sweet man.
That being said, when it came to our exercise, he was a monstrous man. However, he kept using simple English for me to understand him better. For example, when he wants to ask if I've eaten, he would simply say "Food. Eat?"
Because of that, I really liked Bryan.
"One more!"
After the warm-ups were finished, the first skill that we were showing was our dribbling skills.
Bryan kept insisting that I wear some sort of glove, but when I did, it made dribbling the ball much harder.
However, ever since I took it off yesterday, handling the ball became much easier!
"Next!"
After the dribbling section, we began the "Shooting Drills".
This is where we shoot a ball tens, if not hundreds, of times from whatever point line is chosen. David and Bryan told me it was very important to leave a good impression when it comes to my shooting skills.
Because of this, I tried harder to focus on my game.
*Toong*
"…"
A man named Corey who came with Bryan said if I receive a bounce pass, I would need to shoot the ball directly from my wing position (wing position: the most corner area to shoot a point).
As David said, the scouts were watching close my shooting balance and release. I was told they were going to observe my hand-eye coordination very closely as well.
In Korea, we emphasize the importance of going by the book. However, what the officials cared about were very different from what I had imagined.
This is the part that I put all my hope in.
"Woo!"
As I made 5 shots in a row, the crowds broke out in cheers of admiration.
["Wow… everything about you is great, but…"]
At this time, I heard Coach Yu Bu-Young's voice in my head.
*Ting!*
Ah! Damnit! I can't be thinking of something else.
"It's okay, Kim! It's okay! Again!"
Even I knew that I seemed to be distracted. To put it in simple terms, I had deep thoughts running through my head that made things more complicated than simple.
Because of having so many thoughts, if I get tied onto one idea, I can't get it out of my head.
*Ting*
*Ting…*
*Ting… Ting Ting…*
"KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKk"
After missing 8 shots in a row, the amazed crowds began to burst into a laughter. Missing these many shots consecutively seemed to be funny, even though it was just a simple workout.
I saw a guy that seemed to be saying something like this: "Well, what else would you expect from an Asian?"
Although you could say it was a simple misunderstanding, however, it seemed that what I thought was right.
It's because I'm Asian, you say?
"Bryan!"
Since I'm already upset, I decided to turn it up a notch.
Going back to the spot I was shooting at, I placed the ball in my left hand.
*Swoosh*
Good. On to the next.
Next, I switched my wing position to the 3-point line. From there, I directly shot the ball that was passed to me. Similar to the way my idols growing up would shoot 3 points. 
As if there were a screener, I juked them out as I simultaneously took the shot.
*Swoosh*
Now as I was near the hoop, I made a baby hook shot and it hit the shot off the top of the backboard. Then, I immediately did the same thing on the opposite side.
*Swoosh*
Lastly, I took a shot at the opposite end of where I took my first shot.
*Swoosh*
"Good! Alrig..."
"Bryan!"
What was I supposed to say in this situation again?
There was a term that my English teacher in Seoul taught me to use. Oh, yeah!
"I'm on fire!"
"Hahahahahaha"
What's so funny?
Because I got even more upset, I just kept shooting the balls that were passed to me in the same manner. I kept making shots until the laughter turned into astonishment.
That's because I made around 30 shots in a row.
How dare they laugh at me.
However, it does feel like I overdid it.
"You idiot!"
David was clearly mad at me. This terrible personality of mine.
My rebellious personality was clearly a problem.
