Tycondrius took a deep breath, taking in the scents of the sun-warmed sand. He was growing bored, watching his young companion so thoroughly trounced in front of fifty-thousand-odd people. 
Maximus of Ezyria was a grown man, twice the boy's age and near twice his size. In terms of combat, Tycon had initially deemed their abilities to be about equal.
The longer he watched them fight, the more he realized how flawed his judgment was. 
Pale needed more training. 
Tycon still had plenty he could teach the boy. Even accounting for the difference in mass, their force output was similar. However, he could win by comparing technical skill. 
Lone was the boy's usual training partner. The Ranger had greater physical strength but lagged slightly in reflexes and moderately in mana control. Both would improve from sparring matches, especially with Tycon to observe and advise. 
Pale displayed a high completion rating with several Skills-- far more than any mundane gladiator would bother with. However, his Skill activations were... extravagant, both visually and concerning energy expenditure. 
The boy was... far too much like his father. 
Rather than a monstrous mana pool, though, Quay had practiced the Blade Dance and effortlessly weaving Skills with striking for over a hundred years. 
According to legend, Heroes often adopted complex fighting styles, bastardizing and elevating them beyond commonly understood limits. Pale had a long road ahead of him, to get to that level. Admittedly, following his father's footsteps was a decent enough goal to start with. 
...But was too much expected of him? Especially considering that he was only a fraction of Quay's age. 
The boy undoubtedly had the potential. The considerable mana reserves of a Spear Hero allowed him to activate consecutive skills with ease. With his innate combat genius, he mastered a wide variety of Skills... and at an alarming rate. 
Tycon had nothing more to teach the boy about the spear. Pale's proficiency had vastly exceeded his own. He could teach him the basics of the Blade Dance-- but that would be a future lesson. 
The greatest critique he could provide... concerned the boy's Skill usage. 
Pale's mana formation of ⌈Legionbreaker⌋ was clean, perfectly executed... though the efficiency was sorely lacking. The Skill was designed to pierce rather than to overpower. 
His ⌈Misty Step⌋ was agile and effortless. He was likely as competent with it as Mister Wroe, from whom he'd learned the movement technique. 
Pale's timing for ⌈Shadowfang Strike⌋ was... appropriate. Unfortunately, it was rushed due to his circumstances. 
The failure cost him an electrified uppercut to the abdominal area, several kicks to the side, and a spear stab to his unarmored thigh. To top it off, Maximus very picked the boy up and hurled him several fulms away. 
Pale landed relatively near Tycon... probably to prove a point. 
It was exceedingly polite, considering the plausible lethality in gladiatorial bouts. Maximus may have had a soft spot for children. 
Tycon walked over to the defeated Hero and nudged him with his foot, "Pale. Do you submit?"
The boy got to his hands and knees, coughed violently, then rolled on his elbow to pomf onto his back. A bit of blood marked the sand beside him. Moderate to severe internal injuries. 
A lesser gladiator would have surrendered long before reaching that point. 
"Um... BosSs?" Pale sputtered, his voice as weak and pathetic as he looked, "Aren't you gonna ask me... ah... if this is the best I can do?"
"I wasn't planning to," Tycon rolled his eyes underneath his visor. "I think the answer, quite obvious."
"This... this isn't the best I can do!" Pale shouted, struggling but failing to sit up. 
⟬ ⌈Inspirational Surge⌋ conditions met. Activate? Y/N? ⟭
Tycon frowned, sensing his System's offer to heal the boy. It was... quite strange. In theory, his System should only respond to his own verbal or mental commands. 
« Negative. »
The boy would be on his own until the fight concluded. 
Tycon certainly preferred the boy not be killed... but the match was just too strange. The boy was certainly capable before he Class-changed to Spear Hero. 
In his current match against Maximus, something was missing. Conviction... combat creativity... daring and bravado, Tycon had seen none of it. He was activating Skills one after the other with little thought or planning. 
Pale plopped back onto the ground, billowing a light cloud of sand, "It's no use... I took... too much damage, Boss..."
"Indeed," Tycon nodded. "I advise magical healing."
"Boss... can... can I get a heal?"
"What?" Tycon furrowed his brows, "No..."
"But... it really hurts."
"If you can whine about it, then you're not in dire straits, just yet."
"Bossssss~!"
Tycon crossed his arms and glared down. He did not like repeating himself. 
Pale blinked several times, his gaze focusing slightly... "Should... should I just heal myself?"
"Yes. You should."
Pale looked to his side... gathered up a clump of sand... then poured it over his thigh injury, his bruised ankle, and even inside his chest plate... "⌈Healing Sands...⌋"
Tycon nodded, seeing the effects of the boy's rare ability. It seemed to tax him greatly, but his open wound sealed just as well as if he'd used his own ⌈Inspirational Surge⌋. 
It baffled him that the boy had to be reminded to heal himself. 
Also, that he put sand underneath his armor. It was going to chafe. 
"Can you continue?" He asked. 
Pale slowly got to his feet... 
He said nothing. 
Tycon felt his eye twitch as he uncrossed his arms, "Young man..."
The boy wiped at his eyes before looking up to him. 
He was supposed to be a Hero. Tycon saw nothing but a hurt and crying child. 
Grimacing and taking a deep breath, Tycon placed his hand on the boy's shoulder... "I once told you... how Sol Invictus operates. Do you remember?"
"Y-yes, Sir," The boy sniffed, "It was when Miss Seldin kidnapped me... I can't... give up. I haven't kicked... or struggled... or even tried to bite Mister Maximus yet."
So he did remember.
"I need you to fight... to the best of your ability. I will not ask for more... and I hope to accept no less. Your words... I believe them, as well. This... is not the best you can do."

« --not now. »
"If you feel overwhelmed..." Tycon continued, "there is no shame in admitting it."
"Has... my father ever given up?" Pale asked with trembling lips. 
Going on about that fool, again? Tycon bared his teeth, "I think you know the answer."
Pale gulped hard, nodding slowly... "I want to continue."
"Very well," Tycon wiped the tears from the boy's eyes-- it was more efficient than him rubbing more sand into them. "Move quickly. Act with intelligence. Strike to kill. The training concludes after one more exchange."
"...Y... yes, Sir."
"Your volume," Tycon groaned. "--It's lacking."
"Yes, Sir!"

There is an emphasis on combat growth as well as psychological growth on more than a few members of Guild Invictus. There is camaraderie and also the inevitable comedic dialogue amongst manly men. There are even elements of romance and Tycon running away from terrifying, powerful women. (Did you know most female snakes eat their partners after mating?)

2. Shake off Your Problems

A man's favorite donkey falls into a deep precipice. He can't pull it out no matter how hard he tries. He therefore decides to bury it alive.

Soil is poured onto the donkey from above. The donkey feels the load, shakes it off, and steps on it. More soil is poured.

It shakes it off and steps up. The more the load was poured, the higher it rose. By noon, the donkey was grazing in green pastures.

After much shaking off (of problems) And stepping up (learning from them), One will graze in GREEN PASTURES.



3. The Elephant Rope

As a man was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.

He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away. "Well," trainer said, "when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it's enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free."

The man was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn't, they were stuck right where they were.

Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before?

Failure is part of learning; we should never give up the struggle in life.

4. Potatoes, Eggs, and Coffee Beans

Once upon a time a daughter complained to her father that her life was miserable and that she didn't know how she was going to make it. She was tired of fighting and struggling all the time. It seemed just as one problem was solved, another one soon followed.

Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen. He filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Once the three pots began to boil, he placed potatoes in one pot, eggs in the second pot, and ground coffee beans in the third pot.

He then let them sit and boil, without saying a word to his daughter. The daughter, moaned and impatiently waited, wondering what he was doing.

After twenty minutes he turned off the burners. He took the potatoes out of the pot and placed them in a bowl. He pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl.

He then ladled the coffee out and placed it in a cup. Turning to her he asked. "Daughter, what do you see?"

"Potatoes, eggs, and coffee," she hastily replied.

"Look closer," he said, "and touch the potatoes." She did and noted that they were soft. He then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, he asked her to sip the coffee. Its rich aroma brought a smile to her face.

"Father, what does this mean?" she asked.

He then explained that the potatoes, the eggs and coffee beans had each faced the same adversity– the boiling water.

However, each one reacted differently.

The potato went in strong, hard, and unrelenting, but in boiling water, it became soft and weak.

The egg was fragile, with the thin outer shell protecting its liquid interior until it was put in the boiling water. Then the inside of the egg became hard.

However, the ground coffee beans were unique. After they were exposed to the boiling water, they changed the water and created something new.

Some authors in chat talked about a book's worth. 

Most agreed that its value depends on the readers' willingness to pay for a novel. And the most selling here in WN are romance and h e n t a i.

Honestly, it is true in a sense that most authors who don't write these two genres or have the general audience receive lesser income to none. However, there are also other genres that are popular.

What saddening is that a story which has no s** will be buried deep in the list of books.

One time, a person told me that he won't read books without s**. I think you understand what I mean.

Sad... 

Those good literary authors will just choose Amazon. I totally agree with that.

But, is that what really makes a book valuable? So, the authors will just resort to writing stories with s**  since most will welcome it.

I feel sad if it is.

I've been reading and watching epic and classic stories like Mary Poppins, The Twelve Kingdoms, Fushigi Yuugi, The Vision of Escaflowne, Star Wars, Anne of Green Gables, Pride and Prejudice, Little Women, and others. 

These are great books but I'm not sure if the new generation is still reading them.

Hoping they are.

So, what is the worth of a writer? Of a person's storyteller's heart and creativity?

Will it just be buried deep in isolation? Will it just be following the flow of readership and abandon its desire to produce good stories?

I disagree. We still love good stories. There are still more readers who love good reads. In fact, these type of stories are more engaging and imploring. Those epic stories won't be called epic if no one reads them anymore. They are classified as such because their worth is beyond trends.

They simply go against the flow and create a tsunami, leaving people awestruck.

That is the type of book I want to write. I prefer to be remembered as an author who writes good stories without compromising the principles I believe.

Don't get me wrong. There are still good books with a bit of those s** things out there that you can read. But they don't focus on those scenes but on the story itself.

I am a person who never follows trends. And I care less what people call me. I will rather be true to myself than to follow the crowd and lose my self-respect.

In my opinion, the worth of a story is not only on the business side but also on how much heart and effort the author gives to his/her books.

To authors: Let us enjoy writing good stories. Let us be proud of what we write for not everyone can be authors. And not all writers can finish a book. The truth, most books here are unfinished.

To readers: Support good books and give the authors that confidence to continue writing good stories. Without your support, the authors might give up. If no one read good stories, then there's no point on writing one. But I believe most readers still love those type of books.

The return was disorientating, the sudden movement, the complete shift was quite strange to me and the townsfolk who had never encountered such sophisticated magic, we would have never traveled by portal before. So that caused quite a few of us to bend over and throw up the heap of scraps they were given for food.
After a few seconds of pain my head began to clear. I looked around, at our so called "new home", from this point of view it wasn't a whole lot to look at. we were on top on a hill, looking over an encampment. The army that was stationed there seemed haphazard and disorganized, nothing like the ordered lines and camps of the Empire when they performed their yearly tour around the border, showing us border folk the true power of the Empire. 
They were very impressive it must be said. Earth Mages, Summoners and all manners of powers help set up an incredibly defense position in less than a few hours. It was a great holiday for us. We got to come out as a town and watch the true might of the Empire be the height of efficiency, of course they would tear down all the encampment they would make, just so it couldn't be used against our town or the Empire itself, their more destructive mages at work being just as inspirational in their power and force.
Looking down at this camp, filled with women and children, who looked far worse for wear. Barely outfitted troops walked around like kings. It looked a horrid place. The man that had brought us to the awakening podium breathing in a breath of fresh air, like it was a great drug, he seemed to relax, with that relaxation came a true sense of his power. He had been tightly coiled before in the Empire lands. Now though he let loose, revealing his full power of a high tier being.
"Welcome to Camp Hrack, one of many camps that belong to the great Warlords, rejoice, we are free"
With that inspirational message he flew off towards the largest tent in the Camp, a very fancy affair, a complete mishmash to the surrounding image.
"Come now, you are part of the Hordes now, newly awakened combatants follow me to be tested, the others follow Captain Nery over there who will bring you to your new homes"
With a sense of numbness we began to follow his orders, we fell into a haphazard line following him away from the main group. I was pretty sure I wouldn't be able to see those folks for a long time, for some that gave me immeasurable joy, for others great sadness.
Walking down the hill, we started to make our way towards the center of the camp, slowly getting closer to the giant tent looking down on the rest of the camp, even from its position in the bottom of the valley.
This wasn't a place of great prosperity, I could make out that much already, the equipment was outdated and rusty.
That soon became clear that was just for the fringe fighters, the gear grew better quite dramatically as we began to get closer to the tent, I hadn't seen such equipment on even the Empires High Warriors akin to the ones we were seeing just outside the Main tent. The whole thing was quite intimidating and hammered home the fact that escape by this point was certainly impossible. The silence of our death march was broken by our leader.
"You will now be tested and placed into the groups that best match your abilities, Good luck"
He went into the tent, it took a few minutes for him to come back out, leaving us to chat among ourselves. I was in no mood for talking, unfortunately I wasn't given a choice.
"How strong are you Byren, if we can get into the same troop then it will be far easier to plan our revenge."
His confident look spoke volumes that he didn't really think that we were in the same magic class.
"I am pretty sure I have potential for Tier 6"
I decided to be honest as for the moment he was probably one of my only reliable allies. His look made me feel a little self conscious. He didn't believe me.
"Okay, that would be great, I think I have similar potential from my visions, so if we can get into the primary encampments then that would be for the best"
I could only agree, but we were broken from any more talk, by two people emerging from the tent along with our original guide. They were wearing fancy robes, with a weird looking symbol on their chests.
"Primes, these are the new recruits from a small little village on the borders of the Empire."
These new guys didn't think much of us that much was obvious, the look of disdain on their face spoke volumes about their temperament. I wouldn't say any of them are even Heri material, never mind Huti. I don't think any of them have potential. For anything further."
The guide just nodded along as the two assholes began to look around us from all angles. It was quite annoying, I felt like a cattle ready for the sale. It was disconcerting. These people were obviously important. The guard was agreeing with everything they said about the low quality of their new stock.
 "Okay begin the testing, I want to see what these lowlanders are all about"
Rolling out another enchanted Vald stone, this was something I had always dreamed about, gaining glory in a single step from my immense potential. I just didn't think it would be under these circumstances.
We slowly began to line up, Ben was the most motivated for whatever reason, he pushed himself in the front of the line, I was more than happy with my place around the middle.
The crystal slowly began to rise in colour, as little particles in magic demonstrated him power potential. Of course you could go past your potential, it was just incredibly difficult, and generally never more than a tier or 2.The light reached a crescendo as a purple glow appeared around him. He had the potential for Tier 6, that had been proven. I was worried what I was going to get.

Dreams of grandeur and a lost life often get covered in mud. It takes some odd circumstances to clear it all up.

Groups of people ,the number of them hasn’t been identified, stuck in an unfamiliar world with no memories of their past lives. Life sure as hell got them hard. Anyway , I’m new to this so don’t expect this synopses to be the greatest thing in the universe-but whatever just crack on and read the goddamn story with hella short chapters: they’re not that short to be honest.

Kazuki left at 8.30pm, but of course, he would not demand any remuneration for the extra half an hour.
Before he left, he could feel how relieved Harunaka and the others were. Perhaps studying was indeed a tough task for them.
Moreover, he had brought two sets of test papers with him, one from the Senior High School Entrance Examination and another one from the Junior High School exam. He had left the Senior High School test papers with them along with a copy of his own Junior High School textbook.
He hoped that when he was here again the coming Wednesday, the Senior High School test paper would be filled with answers as they were allowed to refer to books and research for information. As long as they were earnest enough, they could basically find all the answers they needed from the textbook he photocopied.
They should be able to finish it... right?
Kazuki was slightly unsure of himself and sighed as he felt the road ahead of him as a private tutor would be a tough one.
However, he had already decided on the method that he would be using to teach the Furuhashi sisters. It was the simplest, but most boring and dry spoon-feeding method of education.
There was a fundamental difference in the nature of spoon-feeding and inspirational teaching.
There was a saying in inspirational teaching, which went like this, "I'll listen and forget about it; I'll look, and I'll have some impression of it; I'll do it, and it'll stay in my mind." The spoon-feeding method encapsulated the first two actions, but it missed out on the last part of actually 'doing' it. In contrast, inspirational teaching gave full consideration to the importance of 'doing.'
In terms of limitations, there were a lot of shortcomings in spoon-feeding since it only involved delivering the ideologies of teachers and books to students, leaving no room for innovation. The best part of spoon-feeding, however, was the speed at which students could learn content.
Therefore, a lot of people condemned the method of spoon-feeding for killing off the creativity in students, training them into individuals lacking in their own ideas, and turning them into machines that only knew how to sit for exams. Although they would excel in the exams, they would only excel at getting high marks. They would not even have half the creativity of a middle school student when they go out into society.
Although spoon-feeding was heavily criticized, Kazuki knew that this was the only way that would work for them after a mere two and a half hour's worth of observation.
Though it was dull, it had a remarkable impact on raising marks.
Blind memorization was another way too.
Of course, Kazuki had to inform Sena Nagayama to get her to grant him higher authority. Otherwise, he was afraid that the Furuhashi sisters would not last very long. As their teacher, he naturally needed to supervise them closely.
There were two means of supervising. One of them being some mild and kind advice while the other was to coerce them into doing something.
Yep, he was more inclined to the latter.
After all, after the past two and a half hours, he realized that these four girls had had numerous experiences and strategies in dealing with private tutors. Hence, extraordinary times called for extraordinary measures.
After thorough contemplation, he decided to call Sena Nagayama the next day to ask for her opinion.
As the elevator door opened and before Kazuki could get out of the elevator, an old lady tottered into the elevator with her back bent and her body shivering.
Her face was full of wrinkles, but it was easy to see that she was an old lady who had experienced much hardship in life. She stepped forward slowly with one of her hands softly beating against the back of her waist, coughing from time to time, causing an urge in people to lend her a helping hand. She had a head of short hair that looked like it was covered in a layer of white snow, teeth that were almost gone, and a pair of rough hands that were covered in veins that could almost pass off as earthworms. But at the moment, her dull eyes were filled with anxiety.
Her dry lips moved slightly as she murmured to herself, "Oh Sunny, please don't believe what Rieko said… she was lying… lying…"
The people waiting outside of the elevator looked confused as Kazuki, who was standing in the elevator, showed no intention of getting out. However, seeing that Kazuki made no move of going out, they did not continue waiting and walked straight in.
Kazuki watched silently as the three of them penetrated through the old lady's body, causing a chain of ripples without a sound. He had never imagined that he could witness an apparition here, and she seemed like a spirit too.
"Oh, Sunny, please don't believe what Rieko said… she was lying… lying…"
No one in the elevator was talking, and only Kazuki could hear what the old lady was saying, but she just kept on repeating the same sentence over and over again like a clockwork machine, confusing him to no end.
Observing her closely from the corner of his eye, it seemed to him that she was slightly mentally unstable?
Looking at the people around him, he paused in thought.
The people in the elevator left one by one until only Kazuki, and the repetitive old lady remained. However, the elevator door had already closed, and if no floor button were pressed, it would remain unmoving. The old lady beside him only stared intently at the floor buttons while repeating the same sentence.
Upon seeing this, Kazuki looked at the floor they were at, it was the ninth floor.
As he was thinking, he pressed the button for the 10th floor, and after a brief feeling of weightlessness, the elevator started to move upward quickly. When the elevator reached the 10th floor, the unknown old lady beside him still did not move.
Then, he pressed the button for the 11th floor.
When the elevator stopped on the 11th floor, the old lady started to move. With the same sentence still in her mouth, she staggered out of the elevator somewhat hurriedly.
Kazuki followed her steps silently because he knew that there were cameras both inside and outside of the elevator.
When he saw the old lady entering room 1105, he memorized the room number. Then, he took the elevator down, but he did not go home. Instead, he sat on one of the benches in the small square at Suiryu Apartment with his gaze fixed on the 15th block of Suiryu Apartment.
He did not wait for her on the 11th floor because there were cameras there as well as the fact that he did not know how long the old lady would stay in room 1105. Thus, he had come down first. After all, if he had stayed on the 11th floor for a long time without moving, he would probably have been suspected of having malicious intent.
After waiting for almost an hour and just as he thought that the apparition might not even come down, he saw the old lady at the brightly lit entrance of the 15th block.
With staggering steps and the occasional cough, it was challenging for her to walk without a walking stick.
Yet Kazuki knew that these were just habits that were embedded within the depths of the apparition's soul when she was still alive. In actual fact, she could walk normally, but he could also feel that this apparition was very much worn out.
The reason for this was self-evident. This apparition had most likely passed away for quite some time and had unsolved obsessiveness left after death. By continually mixing amongst crowds of the living, the apparition was damaged by constant showering of Yang energy, causing her consciousness to fade. Yet because of her unresolved obsessiveness, she still maintained her habits after death. If he had not discovered her, perhaps not long after, this old lady would not have been able to maintain her soul, and she would have probably disappeared from the face of the earth.
Kazuki followed the old lady from behind and did not try to talk to her because he knew that even if he spoke to her, she probably would not have answered him anyway.
After 15 minutes, both humans and ghosts came to the Jinwen market.
The Jinwen market was the largest in the Jinwen District, but since it was already 9 o'clock at night, the market was dark and quiet except for the rare bypassers walking by. All the shops within the market were closed.
He saw the old lady slowly sit down beside a rubbish bin that was surrounded by flies in a narrow alley beside a noodle shop. She stared in front of her with empty and dull eyes.
Like a homeless and lonely ghost.
