Leonie led the way to a study, sitting on top of a small mountain next to one of the many rivers. Its surroundings had a dense bamboo forest. Whilst walking on the path a faint melody drifted from the riverside. The melancholy expressed by the bamboo flute shook the soul of Zayne.

Leonie felt surprised as well, she never knew they had such an amazing flute player living here.

They deviated from their path, walking toward the sound of the flute. But before they could reach, the sound faded, leaving them wishing for more. They tried to find the person by keeping their route.

They reached the riverbank, but not even a shadow of a person remained.

Disappointed, they turned back, soon reaching the study.

The study looked old and was built with ebony like wood. The lack of fanciful decorations showed the serious attitude toward preserving and sharing knowledge the mages had. The building was hexagonal in shape together with a conical shaped roof made out of red brick tiles.

As they entered, a heavy scent of stagnant air brushed past them, escaping to the sky. Clearly, this place was not a place just anyone could enter willfully. The many filled bookcases lined up at the walls left Zayne slack-jawed. He once heard one of the elders in his village lecturing on how books are made. Every word, written by hand, taking months to make even just one. Now he saw thousands, placed there as if they were cabbages.

Leonie walked to a shelf, casually taking out some books. She flipped a short while before nodding and calling out: "I've found the basics of writing in this book here, let me show you first."

Zayne followed her to a big desk made of a bright red wood, creating a sharp contrast to its surroundings. 

Leonie pointed to the alphabet, saying: "You see, this is a set of common symbols, or also called letters....." 
Leonie started by teaching him the basic form of the letters making up the language, then introduced the way words were put together. Her teaching methods were superb.

Zayne found that remembering these letters was very easy, he could memorize them after seeing them once. Many times he started to call out the meaning of words Leonie was teaching him, surprising her.

Leonie: "You are quite the talent, aren't you?"

Zayne: "I've always been good at remembering things."

Leonie: "No- It's not just remembering, you are also good at inferring meaning. You might just become the next big poet of this era as fast as you are learning."

Zayne: "Uhgh. I've heard all poets are old people, I'm only 17 winters old."

Leonie: "Winters? Why would you count winters? Well, I'll tell you about our system now, forget your old way of counting. Today is the 3rd day of the fifth month 65,536 A.C."

Zayne: "A.C.?"

Leonie: "After the last calamity. You just read about that word. So you know what it means. But I didn't mention, that the last calamity isn't considered to be too long ago. Our family rose amid the ashes of many dead contemporaries. Our founder was said to have had ties with the god of calamity from back then, making his meteoric rise easy."

*sigh*

"But since then we have faced a lot of criticism, because of our dealings with the god of calamity."

Zayne: "What happened to the god of calamity?"

Leonie: "After killing almost all humans and most of the many other creatures, including god-beasts, he vanished."

Zayne: "But why did he do so?"

Leonie rolled her eyes again: "Go ask him yourself. Stop asking all these nonsensical questions. Not like I know the god of calamity from 65 thousand years back."

Zayne answered with a harrumph: "Fine once I meet him, I'll ask him!"

Leonie snickered: "Before you meet the destroyer of worlds, I'd suggest you learn to read first. You aren't even a wizard yet. The mere presence of him would disintegrate you over a thousand times."

Zayne: "Then forget it. Anyways, How Old Are You?"

Leonie: "You sure are good at changing the topic. I'm 18 years old, and my birthday was yesterday."

Zayne: "Birthday... I also want one!"

Leonie: "You can't just get a birthday, it's in the word."

Zayne: "Then my birthday in this world was yesterday. The same as your birthday, that works, right?"

Leonie: "Whatever."

Zayne: "Then It's settled, I'm just like you 18 years old now, then."

Leonie pointed at a word in the book: "You see this word here? It means, idiot. Or Zayne."

Zayne let out a cough, saying in a heroic manner: "You'll understand my greatness sooner or later! Just you wait. I'll learn magic faster than anyone!"

Leonie: "Yeah- sure- whatever you say. Not like your ten years late to start practicing magic."

Zayne: "When did age become a requirement?"

Leonie: "Although mages can live for thousands of years. The earlier you start the easier it is to understand and adapt to the way a mage needs to think."

Zayne: "A mage can live thousands of years?!"

Leonie: "Oh did I not tell you? My bad, well, now you know."

Time passed. Soon the light that shone through the cracks of the wooden walls turned a gentle red color, making the table they sat at look like it was on fire.

Zayne finished remembering the whole book. Leonie didn't know what to say, this speed was too terrifying for a mortal.

Leonie: "Are you sure you are just a mortal? You only needed one day to remember the whole book, that's not something a mortal should be able to do."

Zanye: "Do I look like a devil? Teach me the method of controlling my mind. My method is annoying to do, remembering the book was way harder because of it."

Leonie: "Fine." She then walked to a shelf located at the entrance. Shortly after she came back, holding a thin booklet in her hand.

Zayne looked at the book, he remembered the letters. It wrote 'Basic control of body and mind by Ilfguard Rorikstat' 

Leonie: "This book was the one that I used when I was a kid, just take it with you back to your room. I want to get a bath and have a good rest."

Zayne: "Sounds like a good idea. Can you tell me where I can get a bath as well? I'm used to bathing once a day."

Leonie: "Every main room has a bathroom, so it won't be a problem." She proceeded by walking out of the study and in the direction of her courtyard.

She walked to her room saying: "The room to the left is yours." Then she went into her room and closed the door.

Zayne went to his room. It was a beautiful room. The black granite tiles were in contrast to the bright, chiseled marble walls. The walls also had wooden planks stretched up to knee height. It was like the study, made out of ebony. It created a smooth contour between the dark ground and the bright wall.

The bed was again crafted out of the bright red wood. Clearly, a style that was kept over all buildings in this mansion.

Zayne then checked the bathroom. The bath was a roman styled open bath, an elevated statue of a beautiful woman was holding a pot in one hand, pouring the water. The water was comfortably warm.

Zayne took off his clothes, then he took the 'Basic control of body and mind' before walking into the open bathing area. After settling down in the water, he started to read expectantly.

What would you do, if you were to wake up in another world, a world that you know nothing about, yet somehow feel, as if you had traveled in it for ages before?

Zayne Norwood, the Protagonist of this story will bring us along on his adventures on this strange, yet familiar world.

Finding out who he is and getting to know his own history while accomplishing many tasks.

We have been in the castle for a few weeks just getting ready for people to know that we are here, we are the people in charge, and this is where we live. Cole likes to spend his free time in the root cellar because it reminds him of the room we were in when we met, dark and cold. While I spend most of my time writing letters to my family, trying to tell them that they were right. It has been weeks, yet, no reply. Weylyn says I can go see my family once the castle is done, we have shown who we are as rulers, and told the people the new laws. Which makes me think that I'm never going to see them, but you never know.

    "Two days until you can see your family." Weylyn said to me.

    "But I thought I had to give a speech and we need to finish the castle before I can." I said in confusion.

    "Well, the castle is done and that speech is happening today." She said.

    In a few hours the castle was surrounded by people.

"There are so many people." I said looking through the curtain.

"Yes there is. Now it is time to go out there and give your speech." She said.

"What about Cole? Why doesn't he need to do a speech?" I asked.

"He will later, he's going to be out there with you right behind you." She said. "Now stop stalling." she said and pushed me onto the balcony where I had to do the speech. Cole slid in behind me and I froze for a few seconds, then took a deep breath, and that is when I gave the greatest speech I will ever do in my life.

"This is how I rule. I will bury you alive if you define my laws. I will burn you to the ground if you try to hide. I will watch you rot away in a cell with no food or water for weeks if you try to run. I will drown you in the blood of your family if you don't tell me what I need to know. I will rip your head straight off if you don't answer my questions. And I will stop the food coming to your village if you betray me. But, follow me, and you will be rewarded with me letting you live, eat, drink, and breathe. This is how I rule." I said with power and anger behind my voice.

"Fuck you, you won't do shit to any of us." A man yelled from the crowd. I looked around to see who said it. At first I thought I saw Al, but then I blind a few times and it was just a normal man.

"What is your name sir?" I asked him angry and terrified of what I had to do next.

"My name is Donivan Martin you witch. I mean honestly, do you really think any of us believe that bullshit?" He said.

    I turned to Cole and whispered to him. "Can you ask Ace to get him up here?"

    "Are you sure?" He asked. "I know you don't want the blood on your hands."

    "I already have blood on my hands." I said angrily.

Ace walked on the balcony, whispered in my ear "What would you like to do?"

"Like I have been saying bring him up here." As I said, my eyes turned entirely black in rage for a few seconds. As I watched Ace drag this man by his ankles all the way to the door and then to the balcony, and he dropped him forcefully. I yelled to the crowd. "Let this man be a demonstration of what can happen to you." I leaned him over the balcony railing so that his back was arched over it. I put my hand on his chest and put my mouth next to his ear, then whispered "This is how I rule." My hand that was on his chest lit on fire, then his shirt caught on fire, and then I pushed him off the balcony. I heard him scream until his head hit the pavement five stories down.

I heard people gasping for air, as if I ripped their heart out of their chest. Then they looked up at me and clapped slowly and on a steady beat, it was creepy but cool, as the beat of their clapping got faster Cole grabbed my hand and we raised them in the air. Then they stopped suddenly and bowed.

    Cole and I walked off the balcony and into the castle. I got a drink of blood, I grabbed it with my hands shaking. Weylyn walked over to me. "Well, I don't think that Cole will need to do his speech anymore, that was awesome, you scared them into following you. Nobody can top that."

    "Yeah she really killed it out there." Ace said with sarcasm in his voice.

    "Yeah, well I'm really tired, that magic really wore me out. I'm just going to take a shower and go to bed. Goodnight." I said as I put my champagne glass of blood down and walked to the room.

    When I got into the shower, feeling the boiling hot water run down my back felt amazing, but I don't deserve it. Then I heard the door to our room open and close, then heard it from the bathroom door.

    "I need to use the sink to wash off that guys ashes we cleaned up." Cole said walking into the bathroom and closing the door behind him.

    "It's fine I'm done anyways." I said. I grabbed my towel off the railing next to the shower, the railing was on the wall across the wall with the shower head, the railing looked like a pipe coming out of the wall. I wrapped the towel around me and walked out of the bathroom. I grabbed some pajama shorts that are black and tite, I also grabbed a black tank top and a black silk robe I had on top of the night stand. I was walking towards the bed when I felt weak and fell to the floor in tears, I couldn't breathe.

    Cole walked out of the bathroom, and ran over to me. "What's wrong?"

    "Something is wrong, I feel like I'm on fire." I said out of breath. Cole feels my forehead.

    "You're burning up." He said, then picked me up and put me in bed, and got me the coldest thing he could find from the root cellar and put it on my head. You could hear me screaming from the other side of the castle. Ace didn't want to hear me screaming anymore and had Cole move me to the root cellar. A half an hour later, screaming in pain, it stopped, all the suffering.

    I spent days wondering why that happened. "Come on, it's time to go and see your family." Weylyn said walking into the room I've been drawing in. Most of my drawings I don't know what they are. She looked me up and down, "aren't you going to wear something a bit more casual, you don't want to scare them away do you?" I nodded my head in response to her and changed into a black dress. The dress was bell sleeved, see through on the top and sleeves, had a collar, and just above my knees. It was only Cole and I going. We left, and I wasn't prepared for what I was about to find out.

The year is 3201, all power is out, and no one is up for president after the government shut down. No laws, nothing. Analysis day, where six teen year olds are put through four tests to see what they will do in life and who they are, but Kenna knows it's just to see who the dark queen will be. The dark queen is a myth, mostly in the Hayes family, where in the year 3201 a evil queen with magical abilities will rise and destroy anyone who gets in her way of getting what she wants.

the couple walked out from the kitchen and bei ruolan wanted to escape from bringing her husband to her room. however the man hold her hand and excused themselves.

"we will take our rest now" rong longwei said to bei zhuang and pulled his wife upstairs.

bei ruolan looked at her brothers and cousins for help but neither of them stand up to help her instead they all smiled at her sweetly.

with a gentle shut, the couple slipped to bei ruolan's room. her room was the second one which was in between of her brothers' rooms. each of their bedrooms doors' have their name on it so rong longwei didn't need to ask her.

bei ruolan sighed helplessly. she looked at her large bedroom. her massive cozy dark purple's bed was neat and her room was tidy and clean. 

she let him inspect her room while she opened her closet and took out a middle-sized colorful cardboard. 

she placed it on her bed and opened the cardboard. a lot of letters perfectly sealed was there.

rong longwei smiled and sat on the edge of the bed. he randomly picked a letter and read it aloud,

"for the first time I saw you, I already know that you are nothing from the boys I know. because you are the man who my mother wanted to be my husband. but do you know? I also wanted you to be my husband! we can go to the beach together and eat food from the night market! isn't it so amazing? 

love, xiao ruo"

rong longwei laughed as he read the letter. the young bei ruolan sure is oblivious to the words she wrote. she is different from the bei ruolan now.

"you wanted to read more?!" bei ruolan saw him took a letter again. she tried to stop him by taking away the cardboard but the man swiftly pulled her back and she ended up falling to his lap.

rong longwei adjusted his position and locked his wife in his embrace. 

he read the letter with a smile, "hello senior long, we just graduated! congratulations! but how could you become the CEO of the large cheng entertainment so fast?! Its.so illogical! however I think its all because of your smart mind! I called qiuyue this morning and she told me that you changed your personality. I like you but I still like you even if you changed your personality!" 

bei ruolan was embarassed hearing that. her husband read her letter with correct intonation.

"your handwriting is neat and beautiful" rong longwei praised as he examined her handwriting. 

"are you sincere praising me?" bei ruolan hopped out from his lap and sat infront of him. she sighed and took the letter from him and put it in the cardboard. "you can read it anytime. but don't laugh at me!" she warned before putting the cardboard back to its place in the closet.

"you want to shower first?" she took out a clean white towel from her wardrobe and give it to him. 

"you have any spare clothes for me?" rong lpngwei took the towel and started unbuttoning his shirt.

bei ruolan gestured him to wait and entered her walk-in closet. she found an extra large black pajamas and give it to him.

"this is mine. it should fit your body" bei ruolan give the pajamas to him. "I didn't have a bathroom of my own so you need to go out to the bathroom". everyone have their own bathroom but she didn't. her brothers told her that she can just used their bathrooms or just used the bathroom outside. its because she was too lazy to clean her room much less cleaning her own bathroom.

"alright" rong longwei went out and entered the bathroom next door. 

bei ruolan then took her towel and nightgown before going to bei rujian's room.

"brother, are you using the bathroom?" she asked as she entered. however no one answeres her. she guessed that they must be still downstairs talking with her cousins. she shrugged and just take a shower in bei rujian's bathroom.

after half an hour, she walked out dressed with her nightgown as she dried her hair. she looked at the mirror and turned on the hairdryer from the shelf.

"using my bathroom without permission. I should charge you for that" bei rujian rolled his eyes before closing the door. he went to his bathroom and peeked inside. the smell of her rose sweet bodywash entered his nostrils. 

"where did you get that bodywash?"

"I put my bodywash and shampoo in your cabinet before" bei ruolan smiled and turned off the hairdryer. she combed her hair and turned to her brother who was still peeking at his bathroom. 

"thank you anyway. have a good night!" she winked at him and shut the door.

she walked in to her room and saw her husband standing near her bed stand, looking at the large frame picture on the wall.

it was her picture, dressed in a sexy striped black dress. she look hot and sexy in the picture, it was shot in the studio. everyone in the bei family have their own pictures shot that day. 

"you look beautiful" rong longwei glanced at her and than at her picture. 

bei ruolan smiled and walked towards him. she leaned on his shoulder, "lets take our picture together and then hang it in the living room"

"that dress.....its designed by your uncle liang?" rong longwei asked. the dress his wife's worn that day was way too revealing and its indeed a sexy one. qiao liang can make many type of dresses, innocent, sexy, hot and many more. his imagination and inspiration was wide.

The phone wailed in protest as Lucy flung it mercilessly across her room, hitting the stiff bedroom wall. She clasped her trembling hands over her mouth to conceal her silent screaming. Her face was pale and drained of blood, her eyes wide in shock and terror- or something in between. Still staring at the dim glow of the phone's now-cracked surface, she shambled backwards, her legs kicking desperately against the mattress in attempt to propel herself back to the comfort of the inhospitable wall. What might have caused all this, you ask? A message, and a simple one at that. 

Lucy blinked hard, stretching across her teddy-bear patterned mattress like a cat, and creased out the wrinkles in her plum-pink pyjamas. They say even the strongest men can't lift their eyelids in the morning. She patted around the mattress for her phone which, unlike the warm and fluffy blanket, was hard and icy-cold to the touch. She grabbed it, flopping back on her pillow and started replying to the piles of text messages she left unread the night before, the brightness stung her eyes. Suddenly, she had the urge to check her emails. Now she would never check her emails, not for updates on her social media, not for special offers on her favorite websites, and especially not for messaging anyone.

She wasn't sure what to expect, but sure enough, she received a message. At first glance it seemed as though it would be another 'get rich quick' scam that should've gone in her spam inbox, but after Lucy opened the email for a clearer look, her eyes grew wider than that of an owl's at night. The message read, 'tgfv211' which appears to be random gibberish- but she knew better than that. It was an encrypted word with her birth day and month, a secret code that she shared with her father; who burned in an arson three years ago. Her heart pounded furiously in her chest, "How could this be?" she almost swore under her breath. Underneath the word was a link, which she clicked with no hesitation. The light from the phone that previously stung her eyes dulled, and her screen was invaded by a black void. Letters printed in white typed itself out in a small corner of the screen, they were a set of numbers that Lucy realized were location coordinates. 

Sitting with her back pressed against the wall, and the phone still patiently waiting to be picked up from the floor she threw it on, she dug her nails in her skin, painfully reminding herself this wasn't all a big nightmare. The screen was now pure white and although the coordinates were gone and collapsed-as if it never occurred, yet they were drilled in her aching head, as if beckoning her to go. She picked up her phone, limping to the bathroom to throw up.

Lucy got ready as usual, casually stating she would hang out with her friends with her slightly shaky voice; as she didn't want to drag others in this mess. She had to find out for herself if her father somehow survived, because the authorities never found his body. With the remaining of her allowance, she hailed taxis from all directions, trying to get even close to her destination.

An Xiaxia had a rather unique train of thought and she sounded like a little penny pincher as she asked, "Is block booking very expensive? How much braised pork and sweet and sour spare ribs can we buy with all that money…"
Sheng Yize: … Having a glutton for a girlfriend is really… how should I put it… 
"No, it's not. This amusement park belongs to one of my buddies and he gave me a 50% discount." Sheng Yize bamboozled her without so much as blinking an eye. "Come. I'll show you around."
An Xiaxia calculated the number on both hands. 50% off? That must be a lot of braised pork~
Yippie! She scampered into the park.
They were in such a hurry last time that they only rode the ferris wheel. Today, Sheng Yize was able to take An Xiaxia on all sorts of rides and she smiled the whole time.
After each ride, the staff would give An Xiaxia a badge, each with a different letter on them.
"What's this for?" she asked curiously.
The staff smiled at her. "Collect all the badges and you'll get a most wonderful wish~"
An Xiaxia lost interest right away and handed the badges to Sheng Yize.
Sheng Yize, who had come up with this elaborate plan, was hurt by her reaction. He gritted his teeth and put the badges in his coat pocket.
Why on earth had he fallen in love with this little dumb glutton?!
By the time the afternoon arrived, An Xiaxia was already tired of the place. She tugged at Sheng Yize's sleeve and said, "I want to go home."
"Huh? I thought you like the amusement park."
"But we're the only customers here today and the atmosphere just isn't right!" An Xiaxia pouted. "I want to go home to my comics and games, then take a shower and go to bed!"
Sheng Yize was speechless. There were more surprises to come that evening! No, he couldn't let this dummy leave!
"Well, you can watch TV here, too." He took out his phone and dialed a number. A moment later, the largest LED screen in the park began to play… Sesame Street.
Sheng Yize almost dropped his phone. He dialed the number again. "Play something else."
The program changed to a Japanese cartoon. An Xiaxia sat down on the bench and watched with great interest.
Next to her, Sheng Yize was utterly frustrated.
An Xiaxia got tired and fell asleep on his shoulder. He stroked her hair carelessly and waited for nightfall, which felt like an eternity away.
An Xiaxia successfully slept all the way into the evening. When she woke up, she found herself wrapped in Sheng Yize's coat, while the owner himself sat there with a hopeless look in his eyes. He let out a breath of relief when he saw her wake up.
"Let's go for a ride on the ferris wheel." He took her hand, but An Xiaxia said in the nasal tone of someone who had just woken up, "I need to use the bathroom."
Caw, caw, caw —
She had just won herself the prize for "mood-killer of the year"!
Sheng Yize smacked his forehead. "Hurry up!"
"Teehee."
A few minutes later, Sheng Yize finally took her up in one of the compartments of the ferris wheel, together with the last badge.
They sat down and Sheng Yize handed her the badges. "Arrange them in order."
An Xiaxia darted a look at them. "It's too complicated. I can't be bothered."
Sheng Yize so felt like punching the wall!
Luckily, he managed to control his frustration and arranged the letters in order himself. He then showed them to An Xiaxia. "Look!"
The letters made up a sentence: Z. Love. X. Forever!
"Who's Z and who's X? That's so romantic!" An Xiaxia still had no idea what this was about.
Sheng Yize couldn't take it anymore. He pulled her onto his lap and covered her mouth with his!
You dummy! I'm gonna eat you up!
"Mhm…" An Xiaxia tried to push him away. Sheng Yize's eyes flickered. He then ripped his tie from her hair and bound her wrists together!

"From My mail!" She says. First me and Kaito on top of each other and now us in bed?! This has gone way to Far! I ran to my class. All the kids where taking notes accept for me. I was thinking about who keeps on trying to black-mailing me to the council. While in class there was two girls looking at me and whispering. It was probably about the photo. I knew there gonna come after me. Class was over. People stair at me while I'm walking in the hall. Deep down in the hallway I can see kaito walking down. Girls stare at me walking to Kaito. I had to do something because I want this rumor to end. Hey gets close "He-" before He says anything I say "I breaking up with you" and I stick a sticky note on his jacket. People where shocked what I said. They whisper. I go in my dorm and sit there cheerfully. 
The door opens.


                      THE TRUTH
The door opens. It was kaito. He drops his head phones and a bunch of love letters come out of his pockets. He lays on the bed and stairs at the wall. "I'm gonna be dead tomorrow." He says. I run over to him. "No your not. Your gonna be fine!" He stairs at me. There was a sticky not on his back . I pulled it off of his back
The sticky had a love note on it.

Dear kaito,
I heard you and your girlfriend broke up so I think I will be your Match I got big boobs and you can touch I can be yours.

I blush and giggle. He looks at me giggling and laughing on the floor. He starts to giggle and laugh. He jumps on the floor with me. Our heads both touch. We start to turn red as a tomato and laugh.

For a while i was still laying but I got the advantage to get up. "Where you going?" 
"To shower" i tell him
"Can I come" He tells me.
"No!" I say
While I run to the bathroom I forgot my clothes to wear. The only thing I got was my panties. I went out and grabbed my clothes and kaito was gone. It was strange wasn't he here a second ago. I run back to the bathroom and turn on the water. I rub my hair and my body. I heard the dorm open. I stop the water and I got dress and went out. There was no one intel kaito scared me. "Got invites to a party at the pool!" He says. "You should come!" 
I didn't want anyone to tell him the photos that where in the mail so I said "ok l will go!"
He smiled. He got dressed quick and push me to the bathroom to get dressed.
After when I was done he rushed me downstairs to go. The pool was filled with bunch of boys and mostly a little bit of girls. There where boys kissing girls on the side of the pool and some messing with girls in the shadows. I was grossed out. When I noticed all the girls stared at Kaito's body. All they scream the word "HES SOO CUTE" "I WANT HIM TO FUCK ME" I started to giggle but I didn't want to laugh louder tho. Kyoto yelled my name five times " Kuniko! Kuniko!" I went to to Kyoto's table. "How's the boy toy?!" Shes whispers. "Shut up!" I laugh I push her head away from me. When I look around I see my Ex-best friend. She was staring at me in the crowd with her other friends laughing. 
The music change to slow dance. Kaito put out his hand. "Wanna dance?" 


                          THE TRUTH

I glared at his eyes and he was blushing and I was too. I grab his Hand and we go off to dancing. We start to dance. I close my eyes. I look up and Kaito was close. I lean in on him and he leans on me. And he kisses me. We had the longest kiss in the world. We decided to ditch the place to our dorm. When he opens the dorm we begin to kiss. He pushes me on the bed. He touches my breast. "W-why..." I tell him. "Why this to me....Not anyone else!" He looks into my eyes again. "Because I love you Kuniko." He takes my dress off and thrusts in me. He covers my mouth from moaning. It hurt me bad. It felt like pain. But I liked him too and he likes me back so we have to do something.  This was love.

After Sihwa came to the pet shop, although she could only stay in the small bathroom, her ears were very sensitive. No matter what happened on the first floor or the second floor, she was able to hear everything––even the things happening on the streets outside. Nothing could escape her ears. She had heard the elfins talking and messing around, but she had never heard them cry. She, on the other hand, would cry whenever something didn't go her way. Although sometimes she was just faking it, the sadness was never a lie.
She didn't understand. How were they always so happy?
When the two cats and one man were made aware of why she was crying, they couldn't help but feel both angry and amused.
As for her question, no one was more qualified to speak on the issue than Zhang Zian. He said, "You're wrong. Most of the time, it isn't that we're not crying, but that we're forcing ourselves to smile. You think that you've suffered a lot, but actually, everyone has their own different problems and experiences. Everyone is very strong, so you don't see their sadness on their faces."
Sihwa said with suspicion, "I don't believe that. I can't even get out of this shabby bathroom––it's just like prisoners being sentenced to life imprisonment. I can only look at the outside world. Who else is worse off than me?"
"Is it very bad to be trapped in a bathroom? At the very least, you can still watch the scenery and play with your mobile phone." Zhang Zian snorted. "What if you're trapped in a dark, iron box, only to be revived and left to die, die and be revived again? What if you were forced to experience countless cycles of life and death, never catching a glimpse of the hope of freedom?"
Sihwa was shocked. There was such a thing?

Zhang Zian continued one by one, and each of them caused Sihwa to drop sweat like rain. She had always thought that she was the most miserable one and that the whole world should sympathize with her––everyone should give back to her––but what about the truth? Her life and experiences were much happier when compared to those situations.
Zian's gaze landed on Fina, and he was about to continue to speak, but immediately swallowed his words because he saw Fina perk up its ears, reveal her teeth, and posture itself to strike.
Old Time Tea also smiled and shook its head slightly. Zhang Zian knew what it meant: "You don't have to mention this old one's story again. Let the past go with the wind."
"They have experienced so much pain in their past, but today they're still laughing at life. They've never blamed anyone, and none of them have attempted to seek vengeance on anyone, even though they definitely have the ability to do so… Don't you think that they're very admirable?" Zian concluded. He wasn't only taking the opportunity to educate Sihwa, but he also took the opportunity to share his feelings.
Sihwa cried again.
Zhang Zian was shocked when he saw her tears drip into the bathtub, and both Old Time Tea and Fina took two steps back at the same time, thinking that she would cry with ultrasound again. Fortunately, she seemed to be crying silently, without making any sound.

I've tried numerous times to sing to the distant ends, in hopes of finding another one like me––another mermaid… I knew that it would take time for the song to go and come back, but it didn't matter. I was willing to wait. But no matter how long I waited, there was never a response… Maybe my song wasn't able to travel far enough, after all. The world is big, so I came to the other side of the world. From Germany, I came to China and continued to sing, but there was still no one here to respond to me… I'm probably the only one in this world. I was born alone, and maybe one day, I'll die alone…"
There were intermittent pauses between her story––she sometimes stopped to wipe her eyes and rub her nose––but in general, she made things clear.
"So, when I heard the song about loneliness, I could no longer control my tears… I know that you're outside, and I just wanted to cry a little… But the more I cried, the more I couldn't stop. I didn't want you to hear me, so I could only…"
Everyone knew the things that followed after. If she had continued to cry, even Meng Jiangnu would have to bow for her… Speaking of which, Meng Jiangnu cried the Great Wall down. Could her voice be…?

Before Feng Bujue started his investigation, like usual, he checked his pockets and found the three keys again. This was a sign that he might be using them soon. As someone who lived in the fiftieth decade of the twenty-first century, when a computer was placed before him, the first thing he would do was activate the computer, and then… there was no and then. Looking at the black screen and flickering code, Feng Bujue, who knew nothing about DOS, was stunned.
With a disappointed sigh, Feng Bujue turned to sift through the paper documents on the table. It took him twenty minutes to confirm that they were all pointless documents. Then, he moved to check out the drawers of his table, and finally, he found something useful. One of the drawers was locked. He tried the keys, and one fitted the lock perfectly.
After unlocking the drawer, Feng Bujue saw a large envelope. It was quite thick, and underneath the large envelope was a smaller one. On top of that was written 'Letter of Resignation'. Feng Bujue looked around like a spy before opening both letters. The larger envelope contained Hirata Shuichi's resume. The main character in this scenario graduated from Kyoto University. No wonder he was able to snatch the post of the vice manager at his young age of thirty. But that begged the question of why he surrendered his bright future to come work in such a small town.
In the smaller envelope, naturally, there was the letter of resignation. Feng Bujue scanned through it to gain a brief understanding. This Hirata was a kind person. He wished for the company to retain those employees whose lives were not that well-off, and in their place, he decided to hand in his own resignation. After reading through the letters, Feng Bujue replaced the stuff, locked the drawer, and went to the bathroom.
The reason he hid inside the cubicle was because he wanted to give Strategic Victory another try. He did not think that it would be wise to use it in the crowded office. What if the headache returned and he suddenly fell from the chair hugging his head? It would cause a major commotion.
Taking a deep breath, Feng Bujue activated the skill given to him by his title. The result was similar to before. The piercing pain erupted in his head, and no boss-related data appeared, only his own face that flashed before his sight. The face was similar to the one that he had seen earlier, dull with bulging yet lifeless eyes.
Just as Feng Bujue was holding his head, recovering from the pain and nausea, he heard the bathroom door being pushed open. From the footsteps, it sounded like two people had walked in. The two walked to the urinals and as they relieved themselves, they chatted.
"Hey… did you see him in the stairwell earlier?"
"Oh, yes, that horrible manager is becoming more and more brazen."
"Shh! Other people might hear you…"
"Pfft… So what if other people hear me? After all, I've been meaning to quit already. That b*stard, Fukui, isn't it his fault that the company has fallen into this state?" The man grumbled and huffed angrily. "He keeps making stupid decisions and pushes the blame onto others. I hear this is not his first time embezzling company funds. The company is facing bankruptcy, but the man is living his best life. A few days ago, he bought a western manor and happily moved into it. It is because the company has a parasite like him that we're going to lose our jobs."
"Sigh… Even if that's true, what can low-level employees like us do?"
The two had moved to the sink by then. After washing their hands, they flicked open their lighters. Each lit a cigarette and continued.
"The biggest victim here should be Hirata. He's been left with the unenviable task of cleaning up that b*stard's mess. To have Hirata make enemies of the seniors by having him let them go is probably the b*stard's idea as well."
"Good things never happen to good people. I heard Hirata's home was situated in the area most affected by the tornado. He and his wife have moved to the long house in San-chome."
"Huh? Is that place even habitable?"
"Well, what other choice do they have?" The man puffed out the smoke. "But the worst thing is that his wife is cheating on him."
"Yes, being so openly flirty with the manager on the stairs. Even bystanders like ourselves couldn't stomach it." The man paused to take a puff of the smoke. "Apparently, a few years ago, Hirata abandoned his bright future in Kyoto and purposely returned to his hometown for Haruko. In fact, Haruko got a job at this company because Hirata-kun used his connections and begged others to open a position for her at the company. Now that woman has mixed with the likes of that b*stard for the sake of money and did all those things while her husband could have discovered them easily. It's disgusting."
Feng Bujue was stunned when he heard the conversation. This whole scenario truly intended to ruin his good morals. Hirata Shuichi's life was more than unlucky. His house was uprooted by a tornado, he was going to lose his job, he did not have much money, he traded a bright future and youth for nothing, and now he was haunted by ghosts. Suicide might be a better option at this point.
"Hey… it sounds like someone's in that cubicle." The two suddenly lowered their voices.
"Did he hear everything? Who's in there?"
"Wait a minute… When we passed the office earlier, Hirata wasn't at his seat. Could it be…"
The two's voices lowered to such a stage that Feng Bujue could not hear them anymore. He was wondering how he should show himself… but that problem was resolved without him having to do anything because Feng Bujue lost control of his body once more.
What the f*ck? Again‽ Feng Bujue wanted to curse. Don't tell me this scenario has even more main quests‽ Is this scenario endless?
The answer was no—it had already ended.
This time, the system audio did not say anything. Feng Bujue's sight did not turn into a cinematic scene, but he was looking at a projection on the wall. He was situated inside a room made of cement. There were no windows, and the door was beyond his sight. When he recovered, he realized that color had returned, but the creaking sound had become more conspicuous.
Feng Bujue was wearing a straightjacket meant for mental patients. His arms were crossed before his chest. His sleeves did not have an opening, and they were curled around his body, tied behind his back. His neck, waist, legs, and ankles were secured in place by specially-made leather buckles. He was strapped to a chair, and the only posture he could take was a sitting position. Even wiggling left and right exhausted a great amount of energy.
But what gave him the greatest discomfort was the fact that his eyelids were taped to his forehead, and he could not close them. His eyes were incredibly dry and in need of lubrication.
The creaking sound came from a small projector placed on the table to the left of his back. The projector was facing the wall in front of Feng Bujue, showing black-and-white images. The last image was the toilet that he had just been in.
Clap, clap.
Someone reached out to snap his fingers twice before Feng Bujue's eyes. Feng Bujue turned his pupils and saw a man around thirty years old, wearing an old-fashioned patterned suit. The suit looked stiff and old, but the sartorial attention was exquisite, proving it was of a hefty price. The man was had black-rimmed glasses, a common hairstyle, a normal face, and kind expression. But the way that he looked at Feng Bujue was filled with a trace of confusion.
"Hirata-san, are you okay?" the man asked.
"Who are you?" Feng Bujue replied. The man's expression shifted. He took out a mini flashlight from his pocket, aimed it at Feng Bujue's pupils, and leaned in closer to study them.
Feng Bujue's eyes felt worse with the direct glare. "Hey, hey! Please don't do that! You're hurting my eyes. Who are you? Doctor‽"
"I am Doctor Watanabe. Don't you remember me?" the man asked.
"How did I arrive here? What are we doing?" Feng Bujue asked.
"I've told you, doc, you're just wasting your time." The other voice came from behind Feng Bujue. He was standing in his blind spot, but soon, the man walked out from behind him. The man was about fifty, with graying hair. He wore a vicious scowl on his face. He had a trench coat on, holding a half-smoked cigarette in his hand.
"Officer Tachibana, please do not disturb me. This might be the breakthrough we need," Watanabe said.
"Tsk…" Tachibana put the cigarette out and planted his hands inside his pockets. His fiery gaze fell on Feng Bujue, or rather, Hirata Shuichi.
"What can you remember, Hirata?" Watanabe asked.
"I…" Feng Bujue did not know how to answer. The only thing he could confirm was that the things that he had just experienced were Hirata Shuichi's memory. He decided to be forthright and see what kind of information this might get him. "I was on the way home when I ran into a woman whose lips were torn up to her ears…"
He had just said the first sentence when Tachibana next to him exploded. "You b*stard! Are you done toying with us‽"
Then, he made his move to grab Feng Bujue by his hair. Thankfully, Doctor Watanabe blocked him.
"Officer, please calm down!" Watanabe tried to calm him down.
"Officer…" Feng Bujue had been trying to figure out what was going on, and now he had a brave supposition. "Have I killed someone?"
"Have you killed someone?" Tachibana repeated his question and then smirked coldly before guffawing. "You have finally admitted to your crime? And I thought you would act dumb until the end."
Feng Bujue turned to ask, "Doctor Watanabe, you are a psychologist, yes?"
"Yes, I am."
"Then, you must know about multiple personality disorders."
After a short hesitation, Watanabe nodded. "I do."
"What is the meaning of this? You have come up with a new excuse to avoid paying for your crimes?" Tachibana, who stood to the side, was bursting with anger, with flames practically flaring above his hair.
Feng Bujue ignored him and said, "I am not Hirata Shuichi."

Feng Bujue lost his ability to fear because of an unknown psychological disorder. It is silent in the hospital room. Noises of ambulances arriving and departing can be heard throughout the night, but Andrew sleeps through that. The moonlight shines through the large window, into the room. Andrew is laying in the shade, covered by his blanket. He opens his eyes and looks at the clock. It reads 3:24 in the morning. He opens the curtain next to him, and his face gets washed in the moonlight.
[I wonder if you're still thinking about me, May. Keil, Sarah and Lin, too. And my family. Anyone I've ever known. I hope you all didn't forget me.]
His thoughts make him dreamy, and he turns around and closes his eyes. The moonlight vanishes from the room, as the moon goes behind a tall building. Andrew goes to sleep.

"Andrew. Hey, Andrew. It's time to wake up." Helen whispers. Andrew opens his eyes and looks at her. "Good morning, Andrew."
"Good morning." Andrew slowly lifts his head. He looks at the clock again. It's around ten in the morning.
"I already got your breakfast here, but I'll let you wake up first."
"There wasn't a choice this time?" Andrew asks.
"No, sorry. We couldn't give you anything else at this point in time." Helen apologises.
Andrew looks at the plate, and the glass of water. On the plate are simple toasts and breads, with bowls of generic toppings like cheese and ham, and packages of jam and butter.
"It's fine. Don't be sorry, it's not your fault."
Helen helps Andrew sit up straight, and she rolls the makeshift table in front of him again. She sits down on the bed next to him.
[She hasn't got a plate herself, so she probably already had breakfast. Makes sense given the time.]
Andrew starts eating. The toasts and breads don't taste well, but it works for Andrew. He only uses the jam and the butter, as the cheese and ham don't look too appealing.
"Say, Andrew." Helen starts. "How come it that you're so calm about the situation?"
[I thought we weren't going to discuss difficult questions.]
"I don't really know. It's just that… " Andrew pauses for a bit. "It just feels like I've been asleep like normal, so I guess it hasn't really sunk in yet."
"I see." Helen responds. "Sorry for asking, but most patients aren't this calm after realising where, or when I should say, they are."
"Don't be sorry, and I don't know what it is. The feeling that my friends and my family still know about me, keeps me calm in a way. I think." Andrew sounds unsure. "And the fact that they still exist, also warms me up. It would've been way worse if I woke up hundreds of years later."
Helen nods. She looks at the floor.
"Thank you."
"Wait, why?" Andrew says.
"The past patients I've gotten… almost all of them were immediately in a state of panic after the realisation, so I'm just thankful that you're a calm one. You're also my youngest patient yet, maybe it has something to do with life experience."
Andrew is silent, and looks from Helen to the floor. He nods, and smiles.
"Ah, nevermind." Helen says. "I'm just rambling. You should eat up your breakfast first, then we'll start to relearn walking."

Andrew finishes his breakfast, and Helen makes room around the bed.
"I guess we should practise walking to the toilet for today, which is more than enough."
[Now that I think about it, I haven't felt the need to go to the toilet for the past few days.]
"I know what you're thinking." Helen says. "It might sound a bit gross, but you were 'emptied' somewhere during the past week."
[Emptied, as in, that way emptied? It makes sense, but… ew.]
"Anyway." Helen says, as she walks towards his bed. She grabs hold of his arms. "Let's see if you can stand first. Try to pull yourself up on the count of three. One… two… "
[Can I already stand? Right after waking up? I heard people who have been in a coma for only a few months had to relearn to walk.]
"Three!"
[I feel her pulling on me. I don't think I can do this. I feel heavy.]
Andrew starts to work with her anyway. He is lifted from the bed, but immediately after, his legs give up.
"Woah!" Helen exclaims.
[I can't stand. There is no way after not doing anything for thirty something years, that I'm able to stand, let alone walk. What is she thinking?]
Andrew falls back on his bed.
"Well, I didn't expect this to happen." Helen says.
"What?" 
[You know I've slept for thirty or more years, right Helen?]
"No, no, it's not your fault, but usually people are able to stand at least. I hope that didn't hurt you."
[What does she mean? There is no way. How would anyone be able to stand feeling so heavy?]
Andrew holds his head.
[Stop thinking, brain. This isn't something to bother yourself about. I just need to keep going.]
"Can we try again?" Andrew asks.
"Sure." Helen responds. "If you're okay with it." Helen holds his hands again.
[Let's do it properly this time.]
"One… two… three!"
This time, Andrew tries to stand up without uncertain thoughts, and pulls on Helen's hands.
His legs slip away again and he falls onto his bed.
"Let's try again!" Andrew says.
"No, wait." Helen tells him. "We need to anchor your feet first, because it might not be your muscles that are weakened, but the floor that's slippery. I'm going to ask for some help."
[The floor isn't wet, so it couldn't be slippery.]
Helen leaves the room, and Andrew waits on his bed. She returns with a middle-aged man. He has a muscular build, but because of his glasses and his greying hair, he looks fairly timid.
"Hey there, Andrew." The man reaches out with his hand, and shakes Andrew's. "My name is Robert Carter, I also work as a rehabilitation nurse here, like Helen."
[Still no surname for her. She isn't wearing a name card either, Robert isn't as well. Doctor Mirad always wore it.]
"Sorry for calling you over so suddenly, Rob." Helen apologises. "I'll hold his feet, so if you can help him up."
"Seems like a plan to me. On the count of three…" Robert holds Andrew with one hand, and puts the other behind his back.
Andrew nods, and he settles his free hand on the bed.
[He seems like a nice guy.]
"One… two… three!"
Andrew uses his arm on the bed to force himself up, and Robert pulls him further. His feet don't slip away this time, and he is standing up straight. Helen lets go of his feet.
"So, looks like that worked." Helen says.
"I feel really heavy, I don't think I can keep this up for long."
"That's to be expected." Robert responds. "Your vestibular system has been inactive for over thirty-seven years, so it's only natural this puts an effect on your body."
[But didn't Helen say most people were fine standing up?]
"Vestibular system?"
"They are a set of tiny organs inside your ear that makes balancing possible. Most people are able to stand and walk after waking up, because we activate the sensors in the vestibular system during the week of recovery outside of Stasis. It's a way to give you a head start on relearning to walk."
"I see." Andrew responds.
[I didn't really pick up anything of that. It felt like he was speaking Chinese or something.]
"Anyway," Helen says, as she gives a signalling look to Robert. "we have the entire day to practise your walk to the bathroom, so let's see if you can take a few steps."
Robert lets go of Andrew, but he sticks close to him in case he falls over.
[It shouldn't be too hard. I just need to move my leg as if I were walking. The weak leg that is keeping up this heavy, unstable body. Can I do that? What if I fall over and Robert can't catch me? Well, he should be able to catch me if he's standing that close. Okay. Take a breath, no need to worry, and just lift your leg and place it somewhere in front of you.]
Andrew takes a deep breath. He lifts his leg, and feels the lack of balance kick in. The grounded leg is shivering. He leans his head slightly forward, and moves his leg accordingly. His leg lands on the ground, approximately three feet in front of his other leg. Andrew breathes out and looks up.
[That wasn't as hard as I expected.]
He moves his other leg in the same manner, but a lot quicker and less dramatic than the first step. His legs are now next to each other, and he looks at Helen and Robert, surprised.
"Well done!" Helen says.
"Looks like the problem was in standing up, I've had that with two or three of my patients before." Robert adds.
"Well, I haven't." Helen says. "Let's try walking to the bathroom door."
"Sure, although I still feel heavier than normal." Andrew takes another step.
He continues taking steps, concentrating on not falling over. Robert waits at the bathroom door and Helen walks with Andrew. He reaches the bathroom.
"Good job, Andrew." Robert says as he raises his hand for a high five.
[I'm not a little kid, but sure.]
Andrew gives him a high five.
"Well, looks like you two can continue now, so I'll be on my way." Robert says, as he waves. He walks out of the room. Helen opens the door to the bathroom and shows Andrew around. A toilet, a shower, a sink, all the usual bathroom objects are here. Throughout the room are multiple red buttons, the same alarm buttons as the one near Andrew's bed. After Helen has showed Andrew the bathroom, they go back into the main room. Andrew walks back to his bed and sits down.
"Here, this might help with standing up." Helen places a small, rugged mat next to Andrew's bed. "There was a spare one in the bathroom. You won't slip and fall using this."
"Thanks." Andrew says.
"It's almost two o clock, so I'll get us some lunch. Any special orders?" Helen asks with a smile. Andrew tells her what he wants, and Helen leaves the room. Andrew lays on his back and looks at the ceiling.
[I completely forgot about my phone, and the other stuff in the box.]

Helen returns to the room with lunch.
[Why does it look like she is in a hurry?]
"Here you go, Andrew." Helen says. "Sadly, I can't lunch with you this time, as I have other business to attend to. I'm already running a bit late, maybe you noticed."
I did, it's pretty obvious.
"Anyway, try walking around the room for a bit, maybe you can look in that box again, it's on the first platform in that closet." She points to the closet. Helen is out of breath from talking too fast, and waits a short while before continuing. "Okay, I really gotta hurry now. I'll be back for dinner. See you then!"
"Until then." Andrew says back. Helen leaves the room.
[She reminds me of mom, when she's being hasty like that.]
Andrew starts on his lunch.

After he is done, he gets up from his bed. Using the rugged mat, he is able to keep his balance and able to stand up quite easily. He walks to the closet and opens it. The box is indeed settled on the first platform. He lifts the box, which was surprisingly light, and places it down on his bed.
[The phone's first.]
He opens the box, and the phone and charger are laying on top. Next to the charger is an adapter.
[Oh, I completely forgot about it. Nice of her to put it here, where it's easy to find. Probably brought it over during the night.]
He plugs the adapter into the wall, and starts charging his phone. Moments after he put his phone in, the screen lights up with a picture of a battery, and a charge symbol in it.
[Looks like that still works. Let's see what else is in here while it charges.]
He places the phone on the bedside table, and starts unpacking the rest of the box. He pulls out two jeans, three shirts and a sweater, the ones he used to wear most often. Andrew smiles and puts his clothes to the side. He pulls out a book from the box. The picture book he loved when he was still young: The Rainbow Fish, a story about sharing. Andrew opens the book and starts reading. He reads through it fully, and closes the book and places it on his legs.
[To think that they even thought about this.]
A tear falls down from his eye, but he quickly wipes it away.
[Mom, once I meet you again, I'll thank you for this.]
Andrew puts the book next to his phone on the bedside table, and looks at the closet.
[I wonder if they have a library here, I'd love to read some books from the future. Sci-fi and Fantasy most likely changed too.]
He pulls out more stuff from the box. Small and large, cheap and expensive, useful and useless, all these things were once in his room. He goes through all of them, and thinks about where he got them, or why he collected it. On the bottom of the box lay three letters. They are all larger than a typical birthday card, and are coloured blue, red and purple from left to right. Without giving it much thought, Andrew grabs and opens the left, blue letter first.

To our dearest son and brother,

We don't know when, or where, you will read this, but we hope you are doing okay. Together, we filled this box with your most precious belongings, we hope we picked out the correct stuff! We asked May and your friends to put something in too, but they stuck to only letters. May put something in her letter too, but let's not spoil that here. We were devastated when it happened, but we quickly realised you could possibly wake up again, so our grief turned into hope. If you are reading this only thirty or forty years later, be sure to give us a visit! All of us are hoping we can hear your voice once more. If you are way ahead into the future, past our time, be sure to check if Periwinkle and Hillton Fishing Co. are still up! We decided to add this picture of us five during summer vacation, in Spain in 2019. Right after sending in this letter, Melissa will move out to London to study English Literature, and Connor is planning to study a physics related topic, although he is not sure yet which one. We hope you find a place in the world too, once you wake up. We miss you, Andrew, but we hope you can look back at the past with joy, and continue to live a prosperous future.

While reading the last sentence of the letter, Andrew starts crying. He couldn't keep the sorrow within him, after reading it. Andrew wipes the tears away with his arm, and looks at the attached picture. His mother smiling softly, his father looking proud, Connor expressing excitement, and Melissa showing exasperation. All of their personalities the way he remembered them, in a single shot. He stares at it for a while longer, before breaking out in tears again. The depressive feelings overwhelm him, and he decides to read the other letters later. In his mind the same thought repeats itself over and over again.
[I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.]


Andrew Hillton is resurrected in 2056, by the technology of Cryogenics. The day before his second anniversary of the relationship with his girlfriend, May, he died of cardiac arrest.
