it's sort of a cross between sci-fi and fantasy just to  give you an idea.
This book is a story that takes place in a distant world, focusing on three friends leading a group of people who just want to survive amidst the planet-wide faction wars going on.

[Knowledge database contains most important inventions, ideas, and achievements of humankind. The only first portion is unlocked. It contains the inventions from Stone age to the Middle Ages. Until society of this world is ready for higher level technology. The rest of the database will be locked. Another function is a recording of user's inventions. The recipes, art, languages that host learned will be all recorded in the database.]

(Interesting. We need to take everything from this place. Everything will be useful!)

All these things were transported at night to the mansion. There was a risk that someone could see them but it wasn't important. The Reis previous family would think that was revenge for deaths of his benefactor. It was obvious that they knew about captives from attack. The current Reis was harmless to them. 

(I need to create paper. It's important if I want to raise the education level of these people. Glass is important too. There is glassware but it's not for ordinary people. Probably someone monopolized the way of making it. People are not aware of, how to create glass. Glass is crucial for chemistry.) 

He entered the room that was arranged for his new servant.

"Let's start with some basics..." The explanation was enough for a man to worship him like a god. 

"I, Marcus son of Elmar will follow you to the end of the world. If I break my promise, all my intelligence and wisdom shall disappear!" It was really important for scientist only their minds were important. 

(We still need to check that all elements are the same in this world. This world could be different. That's why I need people that will research the particular area. So I can focus on other more important stuff.)

"Master, I have one request." Marcus wasn't sure that he has right to ask something from his master.

"What do you need?"

"Could you write down, things that you said earlier? It's too much for one session! I want to slowly research these things if you permit!" Neo shook his head. The man was right, even elementary chemistry was too much for one session. Especially for a person from the world with low science level.

"I will write it down for you and make one of the servants bring it to you later." The expression of the man became of a child that someone promised the candy. 

(The another problem is my weird condition that caused my eyes to glow. It's the first time I encounter something like this. As I analyzed that night, I had a temporary boost in strength, speed and many more. I don't remember much from this night. The reason for this must be soul fusion.)

The effects were positive but he was out of control. It was most terrifying that he almost attacked the Aron. 

(I will need to find a way to resolve this problem. It's time for finally take care of concoction of meridians expanding elixir. Too many things happened... It's perfect time to embark onto the martial road, I cannot screw anything up this time.)



This time his soul was stronger than before and he had high hopes. The process was almost ideal, he was close to finishing the concoction. Plop! The entire concoction failed.

This time concoction was perfect. The AI helped to keep timings to the milliseconds. Neo would be an idiot if he failed with such assistance.

"The first portion of meridian expanding elixir is ready!" He was excited because after expanding meridians his potential will be boosted to another level. The wider meridians meant stronger foundation at the beginning. There was only one disadvantage of the wider meridians. The body of the practitioner could store more inner energy, so their cultivation was slower than normal. It was compensated by stronger bodies and bigger potential.

Gulp! He took one dose of medicine. The feeling of warm energy entering the meridians was extremely pleasurable. 

The expanse of the meridians will take a few hours and in the final part of this process, the entire body will suffer pain. Meridians were responsible for many body functions and expanse of them will be shocking for the body. He sat cross-legged and enjoyed the easy parts. 

ARGHH! After easy parts, the worst part came. This time he could easily endure this pain. The body cleansing was more painful. He couldn't understand, in his previous life, it was way more painful than body cleansing.

(I am probably not human. Why should I care? I will evolve entire kind in the future. So none will be considered human that time!)

The final pain ended his meridians expanded more than two times in width. The drug was actually more efficient than the version from Earth. 

(Herbs are probably stronger and filled with world's energy. The ancient people called it Qi but it disappeared from Earth, so mystical beasts and most of the mystical herbs.) 

It was almost night, so Neo decided to meditate and start writing elementary chemistry book. The Marcus will valuable researcher in the future, so he decided to put the effort into writing this book.

The contents couldn't cover, only basics and part of the facts should be discovered by Marcus himself. 

(I call it to book but it's a pack of scrolls. The paper mill should be made soon. Paper is an important tool and it's cheaper than skin parchments.)

The elementary chemistry was ready, yet all the servants were already sleeping so Marcus will need to wait to another day. The book was extremely easy for Neo. Chemistry was one of his studies and it was a great help in the development of gene formula. 

(Maybe I should go and give him this book, personally. I am sure he wouldn't be able to sleep from excitement. The word shouldn't be thrown on the wind. Anyway, I want to see his reaction.)

This marks the end of my writing to this story. It has been a whirlwind of a journey, spanning a year in the making. I've no regrets. So many people I want to thank for the encouragement to reach this ending. Writing a novel is never an easy thing to do. Writing an historical fiction is especially a difficult thing to do. At least for me it is. Reaching this conclusion is a proud moment for me.

I'm going through some grammar fixes at the moment since I'm in the final act. Especially on dialect now that I have an updated tool to pick these up for me. Well, most of them anyway. I estimated about ten chapters are left to the end.

I'll post a light gift chapter after Black Rain. An attempt at another Tama POV and hopefully add some comical lightness to the heavy drama. Then it's back to Hinata for a number of chapters.  
[The Moment of Truth]-15220
Oh, man. That moment has arrived. The next three chapters will contain the bomb drop and lots of drama. When I first wrote to the prompt, I hadn't really thought about continuing the story at that time.  Then afterwards, had considered it to be a novella and was doing whatever I could to avoid that moment. Now that it's a book and an ensemble drama. It's one of those events that I can't avoid.   
All I can say is get the tissues ready. Well, I'm saying to that to me, since I'm a weirdo for crying for my characters when they undergo tragic moments.

[Back From Kyoto]-2220
I'm back from touring around Kansai region.  I'm happy to see  that my research wasn't far off the mark. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to visit Hiroshima first-hand.  I went to the Kyoto and Osaka city libraries and was able to read some wartime references and accounts.  Some broke my heart. There was a story about this young man who was a 7-year-old boy at the time when the bomb dropped. He and his older brother (by three years) had lost their family in one hit. They were staying with their aunt at the time, whilst their baby sister and parents went to the main town.  3 km was the distance that separated their family for life.  There were more stories like this in the library. Collected in anthology volumes.  I took some notes. 
What does this mean for the book? 
I'm back and so are the chapters.  I've planned out 5 x new chapters to date, and there're loads more to come before the final volume is ended.   
The new release chapters will kick off this coming Friday (07.02), and chapter releases scheduled for every Friday thereafter.  
"Only one chapter release weekly?!  Are you shitting me?" You may say (or not).  Fufufu.  Isn't there something called TGIF here?  That's all I'll say on the matter.

Kind of nervous about the new cover. I thought, screw it. If the ML stuff with harem can have babes with bazooka boobs about to fall out of string bikinis, I can have my Michaelangelos.  I was trying for a timeless love connection thing. Colors of time and so forth.

Did some chapters. Changed the cover. Still, not convinced on it. Screw it! Jesus-Eiji it is. Until I can think of something better. Besides, it's Christmas break anyway.  
Update: Scrapped the Jesus-Eiji version. As it looked really tacky and annoyed me. Went back to basics. Will leave with just flowers for now, until something better pops up.

Q&A Time: Why the dual perspectives? And chop and changed about?
I dunno. Thought it would be a good idea at the time. Never envisioned this story to be more than 60K worth of words. At that point, it would've been fine. It's now on its way to doubling that amount. This makes the volumes a bit messy. Since I'm writing to this format, too late to change now. I think it also helps with character design immersion. Still, it's hard writing from two setting perspectives, so not to break the continuity of the whole story line. If it doesn't work, I'll revise at the end of the story. When I dust it off and walk away.

Prologue: The Story behind Eranoth's Lore-books.

Eranoth stared at the blank pages of his outdated version of Microsoft word. "Growing up, I studied a large assortment of really random stuff in depth. How do I make this useful?" He asked his elder sister, RedPandaChick. 
"I don't have an answer for you, however, I am using my knowledge in writing. Using actual knowledge and applying it to my stories is great!" She replied.
"I'm doing that, but it doesn't seem like enough." Eranoth thought for a bit. My research has almost no real life application though… "Wait! I have an idea!"
RedPandaChick looked up. "Oh?"
"I have wanted to compile my research on various topics into one place anyways. Why don't I write it down and share it. Others can then learn different ways to apply story aspects and I can make my odd knowledge useful!"
The elder sister smiled. "That sounds like a great idea! There is another author that the people in the webnovel chat on discord they call "Wikipedia" because they have answers to a lot of things. This could be a great way for you to get involved in webnovel before you get further in your actual novels."
Eranoth smiled. "I think the other authors may appreciate it."
"I think more than just other authors will appreciate it." She replied.

Lore Book 1: Shapeshifting: An in depth on the myriad methods of creating change to oneself or others. 

Chapter 1: The basics of shapeshifting

 "Most people think of shapeshifting in a few simple ways." Eranoth muttered to himself as he pondered how to simplify the explanation for chapter 1. "The most commonly accepted method is known as blood-shifting even though most don't call it that. Blood shifting has a few sub-categories but that is for another chapter or 3..." 
Relaxing Gameboy Pokemon music played on youtube as he wrote.
He pet the cat sized white tiger plushy RedPandaChick got him while she was at the zoo last time. "How would you explain it?" 
The inanimate object did not respond. 
Eranoth steeled his nerves as this was something he had put off for years. "Over the ages many people have tried to give shapeshifting a very esoteric definition. For the sake of simplicity I am going to use the following very broad definition. *Shapeshifting is the act of changing from one shape into another.* This broad explanation is actually very inclusive and brings in topics not commonly associated with shapeshifting. But that is a topic for another chapter."
"Shapeshifting has many names. Some of these include: Form shifting, Mutating, Evolving, adaption, Transforming and so on. Despite the fact that these names talk about the same 'over-arching concept', they are actually very different when you get down to the nitty gritty. " 
"Logic is a difficult thing to have when involving shapeshifting outside of the 'norm'. Think about it, how can a frog suddenly become a rabbit? When push comes to shove, how does it actually work? Magically?"
Eranoth face palmed at his own sarcasm.  "Sorry, allow me to clarify. Often times, the 'how it works' for shapeshifting, magical or not, is glazed over, especially when it isn't the primary focus of the story. Lawless shapeshifting can actually lore break."
"Take Legendary Moonlight Sculpture for example. There is a low level npc evil priest that casts a transformation type unholy spell and turns a soldier from the enemy into a ferocious wolf that attacks his own best friends. The soldier couldn't stop it or resist. Holy! That is powerful! Why not use that spell to destroy an army rather than a fireball?"
Now let's turn our attention to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. For those who have not read it, I won't go into detail to avoid spoilers. My personal favorite chapter in that whole book is a lore broken transfiguration spell. The target couldn't resist. Their wand fell to the floor. They couldn't use their magic as a result and they became a harmless critter completely at the mercy of the caster. If that much power could be used from a simple spell, then couldn't the dark lord have been stopped ages ago by being turned into a pocket watch?"
Eranoth laughed to himself. "In games it is the same. The MC saves A B and C from transformation curse. But if you really thought about it, if the curse were cast on the MC wouldn't the story suddenly end? Instant game over? Another in game example, MC uses transformation spell to perform task D. They are able to pull it off flawlessly and nobody suspects a thing."
The old pokemon music ended and Eranoth pulled up another song by a remixer named Kamex.  He took a deep breath after complaining about ads about liberty mutual and google fi.
"As you can see, lawless shapeshifing can lead to a plethora of questions and break the lore of a story. However, Shapeshifting shouldn't be a taboo. In fact, when I start posting my own stories on webnovel, you will see that shapeshifting can actually amplify the story or allow for a very different way to affect a story. To be honest, I haven't read many people's works yet. However, I want to applaud the writer Harry_Dresden in regards to his comprehension of shapeshifting within the world of his book Werewolf in another world. Even though it is the easiest of the lore to find information regarding, (Conditional Bloodshifting and Illusion-shifting), every time transformations are involved in his story, the lore is maintained."
"When involving most things in a story, you should consider a few things. What purpose does it have? How does it work within the world I have created? Shapeshifting has a bit more to consider as well. What is the cost? What is the result? How does it happen? Does it end? ETC."
Eranoth put his face into his hands thinking that this is probably too much of an info dump despite the fact that the entirety of the book is intended to be an info dump.  "I should take a break and prepare the chicken I will be using for dinner." He said as he left his computer behind before getting ready to write chapter 2.

Our area of outer space began at a time as solid matter. It began to dissolve, this left the hollowed area we now live in called existence, hinting the root word exit, due to the eventual goal to exit the walls of solid matter, that to the time i am writing this are still dissolving.

During the process of the solid matter dissolving, matter, fire, and water were left here as extracted remnants.

It was due to the early childrens disobedience that a grouping of family such as ours began here at a distance from our oldest parents, the two oldest parents being outside the solid matter.

This was the last week of June, it was time for the end of the first school semester.
This meant Exams.
The students were already used to their notebooks and pens. It was way better and cleaner than using slateboards and chalk.
Landon had given all the children below ages 15: 4 empty notebooks, 3 eraser pencils and 7 pens (2 blue, 2 black, 2 red and 1 green).
If they needed more, their parents were to buy it for them. And those who were orphans, could take them free of charge from the school canteen.
The adults who took classes were required to buy their own textbooks as well. Afterall, they all worked and the books and pens were cheap.
9 pens cost 5 copper coins, 9 pencils cost 5 copper, while 1 book cost 3 copper coins.
The teachers still used chalk of course.
With these books, the students could go home and revise their lessons.
For those that came to school in the middle of the semester, they would only be given tests on what they know so far.
But within the 1 month break, it was compulsory for them to take make up classes, so as to catch up with the rest for the next semester.
Those that couldn't catch up would repeat their classes on the next semester. While those that passed would move on ahead to the next phase.
All they had been learning so far were language and math. Now, it was time to introduce them into the world of Chemistry.
Of course it wasnt intense chemistry, just the basics.
With the basics, they could go about and have assignments like science projects and so on.
Those that passed and did well, would advance and take Math 3, Language 2 and Chemistry 1.
Today, the little princess Linda, from Yodan empire was taking the final exam for the semester.
Back at Yodan, 9 year old Linda was ignored and bullied most of the time.
Since she wasn't a favoured princess, the maids, servants and even her teachers looked down on her. The only people who cared for her, were her mother Winnie and brother Beri.
She would cry daily and sometimes even feel like she was trapped, with no where to go.
But ever since she came to Baymard, the people were nice and she could finally go to school with other children who were very humble.
And for some reason, the food tasted better here as well.
Landon would come to her school and read amazing stories to her and the other children. She even played on the metal swing and something called a slide.
The little princess was very happy.
She loved everyone, even the funny grandpa Willow. He would always put flowers on her hair and push her on the garden swing (yet, he gave trouble to Landon for plucking Tulips).

Linda sat in the large classroom nervously.
Although she had math teachers and language teachers back in Yodan, she had realized that Baymard's educational system was different.
It was way better and more detailed. Plus she loved her rainbow painted exercise books, pencils and pens, which were much better and simpler to use.
For the tests, she liked that they were evenly spaced throughout the week, giving her more time to read at home.
The moment of truth had come.
The teacher placed a sheet of paper face-down in front of her.
Today, she was taking her first exam... Math 1.
Once all the papers were shared, Grace signaled for them to start.
Somewhere in another classroom, Linda's mother Winnie, Kim and Lucy, were also giving out the same exam.
Today was meant for math 1. So even if they weren't teaching it, they had to help supervise the exams as well.
All tests had different sections within them. Some of the sections in Math 1 and math 2 were similar to one another, but not actually the same.
Math 1 had 7 seven sections:
•15%: Additions
•15%: Subtractions
•15%: Playing with operations (using + or -)
•10%: Number writing
•15%: Word problems (using only + or -)
•15%: Measuring Length (using only + or -)
•15%: Measuring Time(using only + or -)
Linda looked through the section titled 'Addition' and began.
First question: 145 + 74 =? (show rough work)
She immediately started using her fingers and even showed the carry over process on the paper.
The more she answered, the more confident she became.
Time went on and she arrived at the 'Playing with operations (using only + or -)' part.
>Question: Achieve the result 20, by using the numbers: 2, 6 and 4, as many times as you like.
He looked at the question and her eyes lit up.
'6 plus 4 is 10, 10 plus 4 is 15....no no no!! its 14..' she thought.
Just like that, she completed that section.
Now, it was time for 'word problems'.
Question: There are 67 bird families living near the mountain. If 32 bird families flew away for winter, how many are left near the mountain?
She immediately started writing the main points, as she was taught in class.
'67 bird families.... flew away..... 32 bird families..... ahhh!! this is a subtraction.. this is taking away' she exclaimed inwardly as she immediately did the subtractions.
When she was at the last section, Grace kindly reminded them to drop their pens, pencils and papers.
She was currently in the last section and had 3 questions left to answer. She couldn't help but curse the 6th section for slowing her down.
All in all, she felt like she was going to do very well in the exam.
After the exam, she discussed her answer with some of her friends.
"Did you guys succeed in finishing the exam?"
"Ahh!!! I only had 1 question left, and then they took away for paper"
"Woo woo.... I'm not sure I did well"
"Don't cry, who can say that we will all pass?"
"Yeah plus there's still make up classes during the break."
"Don't forget that if you do well in Math 2 and Pyron 1, you will still advance."
"We have to study hard for the next tests"
"Ahh!!! Question 5 in section 4 was very confusing"
"It was definitely a trap"

Two days later, the exam for Math 2 began.
The Exam had 8 sections:

And under the Multiplication section, Linda still felt it was easy.

Moving forward, Linda realised that she had spend too much time with the Section 'number writing'.
Question: Write Nine thousand four hundred and sixty-one, in numbers.
'Thousand..thousand... Ahhh!!.. its 1000.. but since its 9, then its 9000...'
She also spent time doing the measuring length, weight and time sections.
Question: 2 m = ? cm
Question: 20 kg = ? g
Question: 9 hrs 45 min = ? min

Once again, she was unable to finish her exam on time.
Was it a curse for her to never to finish on time?
She quickly went home and started practicing her pre-tenses, present tenses and so on, for her Pyron exam.
All the people in Pyno spoke 1 language, so the language spoken in Yodan was the same as that in Arcadina.
Another 2 days passed and it was time for her final exam.
Pyron 1 was divided into sections:
•18%: Nouns, verbs, adjectives and pronouns
•18%: All Tenses: Present, past, simple.. etc
•9%:   Writing numbers into words
•15%: Prepositions
•20%: Choose correct/ Incorrect sentences
•20%: Choose complete/Incomplete sentences.
Linda kept seeing questions like;
Question: choose whether the following sentence is a simple or compound sentence.
Question: Which sentence shows the proper use of a noun?
Question: Write 109 in words.
Question: Which is not a complete sentence?
Question: Identify the adverb in the sentence
For her, language was easy compared to math. So for the first time ever, she had successfully finished all the questions for the exam. She even had 10 minutes to spare, so she decided to go over her work once more.
Once the exam papers were collected, she truly felt free as a bird. She had never had this type of feeling before.
She began discussing with her friend on what they would do with this 1 month vacation.
She had been told that the exams would be posted on the 12th day of July.
Also, the next semester was going to start in August.
 So for the entire month of July, she would hopefully have no school.
To be honest, she didn't want to spend the entire July doing makeup classes. That's why she earnestly prayed that her results would be atleast alright to take her to the next stage.
She had been so stressed during this exam period, that she didn't even care how her hair looked like when she left the house early this morning.
Her mom wanted to fix it, but she refused as she needed to use all her time for studying.
She looked at her mom as if saying: 'Mom, my holiday is at stake here and your worried about my hair?'
Right now, she didn't even want to see a single book, atleast until august.

"All right! Starting today I shall be in charge of your education. And my title is simply amazing! I'll be your tutor! Tutor Ferdel!"

Where on earth did it go wrong? I stared at the man sitting in front of me. I also knew that I had to study at a higher level, not at the same time as my teacher, and not at the same time as writing or writing.
But wait, this isn't right.

"...you?"
"Yes."

Ferrell nods, shining brightly in my eyes at my ridiculous response.
The twinkling eyes were unusually burdensome. I thought Abby would never take Ferdelman as my teacher, no matter how What kind of deal did the two of them make?

"Ferdel, isn't the Chancellor busy over there?"
"It's all right."

Ferdel looks very fine and nods his head exaggeratedly.

" Raising the talent of the country is one of my financial jobs."

Well, you can say it's an open mouth anyway. You may be okay, but I'm not!
But Ferdel did not seem to be interested in my mental health. He looks like he's going to die, and he's humming with excitement.

"Now, let's start with the basics today."

Can you really teach me right? Of course I wasn't questioning Ferdel's own ability, but doesn't that usually exist? Genius cannot teach others. Of course it is possible for a genius to teach a genius. In fact, I'm not a real genius, as maids and daughters-in-law make a noise.
Do you think I can keep up with this class? But if you say that to that face, it will be meaningless to say that it's okay to come back. I just sighed.

"What are you going to study?"
"How to be proper Princess?"

Huh? Ferdel smiles before I even ask what the hell that means.
I was frustrated by the fact that Ferdel was a teacher for another reason because his hands were so light that he came to teach his students. There is no book, and he brought something with him, which now unfolds before me. I was a little surprised to see it.
Is this map?

"This is Agrigent."

What Ferdel pointed out was a huge piece of land in the middle.

"I've never seen a map before."
"It's not necessary for real life. It's not distributed well."

Ferdel laughed that it was natural not to see, but I couldn't take my eyes off the real map I had never seen before.

He then showed me out where I met with a guard that led me away from the Palace walking all the way back to near the wall of the city. When the guard stopped, he gestured at a large rectangular building which seemed to be made out of the same green stone as the wall. 

In the middle of the building was a tower that soared up out of the building higher than the city walls. Seeing that I was finished admiring the premise that I apparently now owned, the guard said, 

"This building was first built by a sect that had taken residence in this city and typically ownership of it is passed down to the strongest sect in this area. But up until now, no sect has stayed around long enough to truly claim it as their own. Maybe yours will be different."

Now understanding why I had been given this particular building, I had to wonder why so many sects had failed to take root here unlike in the rest of the mainland. Not too worried about it, either way, I decided to check out the inside of the building. 

When I went inside the first room was what looked like an upper-class restaurant with a large bar along the back wall. On either side were doors which lead to sets of identical quest rooms where it was apparently planned for most of the sect to live.  

Behind the bar was another door which led to a room with carpet so thick it felt like a mattress and a table surrounded by four expensive couches placed in the corner. What dominated the room was a huge pillar and on its sides was painted a beautiful natural mountainous landscape. It was so realistic it was almost as if you could hear the sounds of nature in the room.

 At the base of the mountain in the center was an ornate door gilded with an intricate pattern of gold with no visible handle to open the door. Looking at the guard, he seemingly understood my unvoiced question, 

"If you place your palm on the door and you are recognized as its master, it should open for you. As for what makes you be recognized as its master, I'm not sure anyone really knows. It's one of the many mysteries surrounding this tower."

Shaking my head that the building I now owned might lock me out in over half of the area for some unknown reason, I crossed my fingers and laid my palm on the door. As soon as I did, the gold on the door started seemingly through some kind of supernatural occurrence visibly disappeared until we were left with just a plain wooden door that opened with a light touch. 

Revealing a narrow set of circular stairs, lucky for me it seemed I had at least found my way to the first floor of the tower. Climbing the steps, we quickly ran into two shut doors. One blocked off the way up further in the tower and the other most likely opened up to the first floor of the tower. 

Taking the door that I assumed lead to the first floor of the tower, I opened the door revealing bookcase after bookcase filled with leather bound books. Arranged by all the bookcases were leather chairs and lamps that burned with unearthly blue light with some method I had never encountered. 

All the blue light created a calming atmosphere that filled the room making me relax without my actual awareness. Further inspection of the room revealed an office that had a desk surrounded by scrolls, some blank and others filled with writing. In the back of the office was another door that led to a small bedroom with a locked chest and an extremely basic bed. 

My curiosity getting the best of me, I attempted to break the lock on the chest but no matter how much strength I used the bolt didn't even budge. Defeated, I turned to the guard dismissing him so I could check out what kinds of books were being kept in the library. I opened one book to see what was written. I opened it and read the title, "Manual of Arms for Sword Part 1, The Basics". 

Excited because if I could find one there on spears it would help immensely since I had no idea on even the basics of how to use a spear, I had only been getting by due to my physical abilities being able to overcome my enemies' technique.

 I quickly skimmed all the other books finding the ones that could be useful to me right now. There were three books on spears, three on general fighting and three on movement in combat. The final book was very different to all the others and was called, "An Introduction to the Tower." 

Scanning it made it evident that the tower it was referring to was the one I was currently in. Reading through it quickly, I interpreted as much as I could in a short time because it was written in an extremely flowery manner as if it was purposely written to be hard to understand. 

What I managed to decipher out of the confusing prose was a couple of things. First was a list of floors and their names although in many cases the name of the level did not help at all in identifying what might be on that particular floor. 

The names of the levels went as follows; the first was called the martial, second was the elemental, the third was the equipment, the fourth was the rune, the fifth was the lab, and the sixth was the master floor. Also, within the book was a brief overview of what was supposedly on this floor.

 The only problem was that no matter how hard I searched I could find no other rooms on this floor even though more rooms were clearly described in the books. The one other thing I could understand from the book was that somehow the doors measured your core strength and would only open to you once you reached a certain level of strength. 

The confusing part was it also seemed to somehow factor in talent, but it wasn't entirely clear how it worked. But one thing was sure, the stronger I got, the more likely it was for the doors to open for me. Since I was now considered the master of the tower, the doors would only open for me.
Setting aside the book for more studying later, I decided to start researching all three of the basics books. 

I quickly realized how many things I had been doing wrong and small corrections to things I had been doing right. As I slowly read and practiced the concepts in the books, time flew by until I suddenly remembered that I was supposed to be meeting the Prince in the morning. 

I stored the books in my ring before I quickly rushed downstairs having no idea what time it was since I had been isolated in my tower. Reaching downstairs, I saw light streaming through the windows of the first floor. I also noticed a guard standing by the entrance undoubtedly sent by the Prince to come to get me. Upon seeing my presence, the guard straightened up and bowed saying, 

"The Prince has ordered me to show you the way to the Runemaster as he is currently engaged and can't spare the time to show you himself. He also told me to give this to give to the Runemaster."


After saying this, the guard pulled out a letter and handed it to me before marching away expecting me to follow him. As we walked, we continued to go deeper into the worse parts of the city becoming surrounded by rundown houses barely fit for human habitation with garbage and filth washing over the road and covering every inch of it.

 Finally, the guard stopped next to a small hut that was at least still standing and appearing quite a bit more useful than the buildings surrounding it. Looking at the guard questioningly, he nodded and gestured towards the hut. 

Wondering if this was all some practical joke, I entered the hut shaking my head. I entered the hut although and my doubts about this being some kind of joke disappeared because as soon as I crossed the threshold instead of seeing a dingy hut like I expected, there was a large room filled with multiple tables on top of which were stacks of paper with a rune drawn on each of them. As soon as I entered, a young girl ran out and said,

 "Welcome, please wait here while the master finishes what he is working on. He should be with you shortly."
She then turned to leave, but before she could, I grabbed her shoulder pulling out the letter I was given saying,

 "Please give this to your master. The Prince gave it to me to deliver to your master."

She settled into a faded armchair in an out of the way corner that had a decent view of the computer cubicles and pretended to read the top book in her pile. She could tell from the way several of the computer users had their belongings sprawled across the desk—one had even removed his shoes—that they would be in place for a long while. The most promising station was being used by a teenage girl with a stack of reference books and a harried expression. The girl didn't seem to be checking social media—she was actually writing down titles and authors generated by search engine. While she waited, Chris kept her head bent over her book, which she had nestled in the crook of her left arm. With the razor blade hidden in her right hand, she neatly sliced off the magnetic sensor taped to the spine and stuffed it into the crevice between the cushion and the arm of the chair. Feigning a lack of interest, she moved on to the next book in the pile.

Chris was ready, her denuded novels already Stowed away in her backpack, when the teenage girl left to go find another source. Without jumping up or looking like she'd rushed, Chris was in the chair before any of the other lingering hopefuls even realised their chance had passed.

Actually checking her email usually took about three minutes.

After that, she would have another four hours, if she wasn't driving evasively, to get back to her temporary home. Then of course the reassembly of her safeguards before she could finally sleep. Email day was always a long one.


Though there was no connection between her present life and this email account—no repeat IP address, no discussion of places or    names—as soon as she was done reading and, if the occasion called for it, answering her mail, she would be out of the door speeding out of town, putting as many miles between herself and this location as possible. Just in case.


' just in case ' had become Chris's unintentional mantra. She lived a life of over preparation, but as she often reminded herself, without that preparation she wouldn't be living a life at all.


It would be nice not to have to take these risks, but the money wasn't going to last forever. Usually she would find a menial job at some mom-and-pop place, preferably one with handwritten records, but that kind of job generated only enough money for the basics—food and rent. Never the more expensive things in her life, like fake ID's, laboratory apparatus, and the various chemical components she hoarded. So she maintained a light presence on the Internet, found her rare paying client here and there, and did everything she could to keep this work from bringing her to the attention of those who wanted her to stop existing.


The last two email days had been fruitless, so she was pleased to see a message waiting for her—pleased for the approximately two-tenths of a second it took her to process the return address.
