Chapter 149: Resistance Camp

Lyra shivered as she wrapped Elias' jacket tightly around her shoulders, the chill of the night air biting at her skin as they emerged from the Nightfall Mansion. She paused for a moment, turning back to look at the imposing structure that had been their prison, her thoughts drifting to Dante and the sacrifice he had made to ensure their escape.

Clara, dressed in her resistance uniform, rushed forward, her face etched with concern. "Lyra, you don't understand how much we worried about you," she said, her voice trembling with emotion. "Especially Elias."

Lyra felt a pang of guilt as she met Clara's gaze. "I know, I am so sorry," she said softly.

Silas stepped forward, his eyes shining with admiration. "Your alchemy was excellent, Lyra. Breaking through that veil was no easy feat."

The others nodded in agreement, discussing how they had struggled to find a way to penetrate the magical barrier surrounding the mansion.

Kai chuckled, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "It was a risky gamble, using my Spatial Portal to teleport us inside the veil. It was a one-way ticket and required time to activate again. Luckily, it all played out."

The resistance members shared their own stories, revealing how their memories had been tampered with after the Nightfall raid at Nachesten. Only Elias had managed to hold onto his memories, convincing the others of the truth once they saw it for themselves. They had mobilized immediately, but had feared there was no hope of reaching Lyra through the veil.

As the adrenaline of their escape began to fade, Lyra felt the weight of exhaustion settle over her. The pain and pressure of the huge fight caught up to her all at once, and she swayed on her feet.

Clara noticed immediately, wrapping an arm around Lyra's waist to steady her. "There's so much to catch up on," she said gently, "but I know you're exhausted. Let's get you somewhere safe to rest."

Lyra nodded gratefully, allowing herself to be led away from the mansion and into the waiting embrace of her friends. As she drifted off to sleep, secure in the knowledge that she was finally safe, she knew that the fight was far from over. But for now, she could rest, gathering her strength for the battles that lay ahead.

As the resistance members transported Lyra to safety, exhaustion overtook her, and she drifted off into a fitful sleep. However, her dreams were far from peaceful. Lyra's mind kept replaying the events that had transpired with the Sanguine who had used her parity potion.

She had worked tirelessly with Dante to perfect the formula, pouring all of her alchemical knowledge and skill into its creation. Everything should have gone according to plan. Lyra's alchemy was usually spot-on, and she couldn't understand what had gone wrong.

Suddenly, the Sanguine's agonizing scream pierced through her dreams, jolting Lyra awake. She sat up, her heart racing and her skin damp with sweat.

Elias and Clara, who had been keeping watch over her, immediately noticed her distress. "Are you alright?" Clara asked, her voice filled with concern.

Lyra nodded, trying to calm her breathing. "Yes, I'm fine. Just a bad dream."

Clara reached out, placing a comforting hand on Lyra's shoulder. "You were very brave, Lyra. I'm sorry I wasn't there to protect you."

Elias shook his head, his expression somber. "No, Clara. It's not your fault. The resistance club failed Lyra. I failed her. We should have done more to keep her safe."

Lyra sat up straighter, looking between her two friends. "Stop it, both of you. This is what I signed up for when I joined the resistance. We all knew the risks. What happened at the Nightfall Mansion wasn't either of your faults."

Despite her words, Lyra couldn't shake the feeling of unease that had settled over her. The image of the Sanguine's reaction to her potion kept replaying in her mind, and she couldn't help but wonder what had gone wrong.

She knew that she would need to investigate further, to understand the true nature of her creation and the consequences it might hold. But for now, as the resistance members continued their journey to safety, Lyra pushed those thoughts aside, focusing instead on the challenges that lay ahead.
