Chapter 22: Essence training pt 1.
On a beautiful day, Lyra's Essence training class gathered on a vast outdoor field. The yard was breathtaking, dotted with an array of fascinating gizmos designed for testing and practicing various Essence techniques. Lyra, along with about 40 other students, arrived wearing their designated Essence training outfits—shorts and a t-shirt adorned with Ashborne Academy's mascot.
As they waited for the class to begin, a striking figure approached the group. It was the PE captain, a vampire who made no effort to conceal his true nature. His aura radiated power and confidence as he sauntered towards them, shielding himself from the sun with a sleek pair of shades and a stylish umbrella.
The PE captain addressed the class, his voice commanding attention. "Today, we'll be focusing on identifying Essence systems," he announced. "This means understanding the unique set of abilities that each Essence technique grants its user. Many people remain unaware of the full potential of their abilities, which can lead to weaknesses and ineffective utilization of their techniques."
He continued, emphasizing the importance of this knowledge. "By comprehending your limits and the intricacies of your technique, you can master and improve your abilities. This understanding will set you apart and make you a formidable Essence user."
As the captain spoke, Lyra felt a wave of frustration wash over her. Her own telepathic Essence technique seemed woefully inadequate compared to the impressive abilities possessed by her classmates. She couldn't help but feel that her technique was pretty much useless in the grand scheme of things.
The captain began to outline the day's activities, which included a series of tests and exercises designed to help each student identify the specific attributes and limitations of their Essence technique. Lyra's heart sank as she contemplated the prospect of showcasing her meager abilities in front of her peers.
As the class dispersed to begin their individual assessments, Lyra found herself approached by a friendly face. It was Elias, the charming young man with the camo pants whom she had partnered with in alchemy class.
"Hey, Lyra!" he greeted her with a warm smile. "Ready to explore the depths of your Essence technique?"
Lyra managed a weak smile in return, trying to mask her insecurity. "I guess so," she replied, her voice wavering slightly. "Though I'm not sure there's much to explore with my telepathy."
Elias placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder, his touch sending a slight tingle through her body. "Don't sell yourself short," he said, his eyes meeting hers with a sincere gaze. "Every Essence technique has its own unique strengths and applications. It's all about understanding how to harness them effectively."
Lyra felt a glimmer of hope at his words, the knot of anxiety in her stomach loosening slightly. As they made their way to the first assessment station, she couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for Elias's presence and support.
Throughout the class, Lyra pushed herself to explore the nuances of her telepathic abilities, guided by Elias's encouragement and the captain's expert instruction. While her technique might not have been as flashy or powerful as some of her classmates', she began to see glimmers of potential in the subtle ways she could gather information and influence others.
