Chapter 4: Gaining Control

Glacia

"Glacia, the food is ready to come down and eat."

I could hear my mother call but not wanting to move was more intense. The floor around me had frost over. I would freeze everything. I would wake up screaming at nights because I would freeze myself to my own bed. Mom and I found out if I calm down I would unfreeze. It became several nights of different blankets. I just did not want these powers anymore. I sat in the middle crying with my knees to my chest. I was scared that I might hurt someone. I quietly went down the stairs and through the back door. I would not touch anything and I would breathe through my nose. My powers were being triggered by my emotions. I wanted to be alone today.

I sat down in the meadow. I would take flowers in my hand and freeze them. I was happy here free to freeze anything I wanted and not able to hurt anyone. That's when I decided once I turned for the first time I was leaving the pack. It made me a bit uneasy to leave my mother. However, I felt that mom would be better off without me. After the incident, I became an outcast to my pack. The pack members were not allowed to visit us. We could not call the pack doctor unless we called the alpha first to get permission.

I looked at my hands. When I used my powers ice gloves would form around my hands. After the incident, the cold was never a problem. Even though the gloves were ice, I was able to move my fingers. I would blow out while imaging snow. It would snow for a few seconds then blow away. By shaking my hands after I calmed down would ease my powers. The next time I looked at my hands the gloves were gone. The flowers would not unfreeze. They would stay frozen almost in a crystallized state. I found it odd that it would not melt.

Flint

I was trying to get over my mother as best as I could. My father could not keep down his own emotions more or less my own. Dad gave me a backpack with survival gear.

"I'm asking you to leave till you gain control of your powers. You are my son so you are not becoming an outcast. I just can not have you burn down the packed house."

I felt horrible for believing it was my fault for my mother's death. I wanted to become an outcast. However, It was impossible for me since I was next in line to become alpha.

"Are you wanting me to control my powers for I won't kill anyone else?"

My father looked at me with sad eyes and then hugged me.

"Flint you are not at fault for your mother's death."

"It was the fire that came from my body that killed her. If this fire is a part of me then I killed her."

"Flint did you mean to kill your mother."

"No, I would never want to kill her. If she was still alive I would want to protect her."

Dad looked me in the eyes and smiled

"If you did not mean for her death to occur. Then you did not kill her."

He hugged me once more.

"Do you remember the cave I showed you to go to if I went missing."

I nodded.

"Good, There is a secret room at the back of the cave. The door has a white paw print on it with blue claws. It will be different than the other paws. I will visit you once a week to bring you more food. Flint, I love you and I'm sorry it has come to this."

I looked at my father one last time before leaving. While walking into the woods Austin ran up to me.

"Flint, Where are you going?"

"Austin, I'm going away for several months maybe till I turn. I can't stay here till I gain control."

Austin hugged me.

"We'll still be friends once you come back."

I nodded then turned away continuing on his journey.

It took me five hours to reach the cave. It took me a while to find the door. Once inside I was surprised at how larger the room was. A kitchen, living room, and bedroom combine into this large room. There was a wooden door behind the sofa. I decided that it was the bathroom and would check it out after I practiced.

I laid my belongings along the full-size bed. Since I had not turned yet, I had weapons to protect me. My father packed a pocket knife, a machete, and a gun. There were also several pairs of clothes and a canister to hold water. The sofa seems to be a pullout. I walked over to the kitchen. The sink and oven worked perfectly surprisingly. I knew how to hunt but not to cook. I hoped once dad would come to visit me he would teach me. When I looked in the fridge I found containers with dates on them. I open one. Right, when the lid was off I quickly knew that the product had gone bad. I almost threw up from the smell.

After closing the lid without knowing what to do with the container so I just put it back closing the fridge. I decided to go out and practice.

I sat in the middle of the cave. I hated my power it killed my mother. I needed to practice for I could reenter the pack. I looked at my hand and thought of fire. I was not sure how to use his power. I never tried using it before. When I noticed my hand on fire, I freaked out shaking my hand. It did not go out. I just stared at one hand then the other. My hand never changed color. I guessed this was the reason I did not have scars from the incident. I held my hands out and imagined a fireball but nothing happen. Then I tried facing my hands toward each other about ten inches from myself. The fireball appeared. I was amazed and scared of what it could do. I launched it across the cave at a pile of rocks. The ball exploded crumbling the rock.

"Flint, can you turn the fire off?"

"Dad?"

"Yes, now turn the fire off."

"I still do not know how."

"I'll go get a bucket of water from inside. Maybe if you let your hands sit then the fire will die out."

"Maybe."

Dad came back in the cave with a bucket of water. I set my hands in it for several minutes but nothing happened. I felt uneasy so I took a deep breath in. When I opened my eyes after calming down my hands were no longer on fire.

"Flint I knew you could figure it out."

"My powers are connected to my emotions."
