Chapter 1: prologue: part one
Damions POV
"Gaah," I yelled as I was shoved to the ground. I looked to see a tall boy with sharp features holding out his hand. A teacher stared at us, but quickly turned back around indifferently "Pay up, unless you want a good beating and third degree burns. A salamander like creature snorted proudly on his shoulder. I pulled the small wallet i kept in my bag out and handed it to the boy. He took the 5 dollar bill and smiled. I sighed in relief. Right before he kicked me in the mouth, laughing wildly as he walked off.
I sighed as this kind of treatment was merely routine to me. I was just glad the money the welxx gave me was enough to satisfy him, or i would have been beaten senseless. Some bullies were brutal physically or verbally. Some would simply have me do tasks for them and i would be off. All of it went completely ignored by other students and even teachers and staff, too scared to anger a future talent or their family.
At least i had the welx family to give my life meaning. Ive been with them since i could remember, and they have treated me like family. They were apparently good friends with my previous family. But when i tried to talk to about them, i realized how easily they could divert my focus and change the subject and gave up. Im surpised they dont have any mental weakening magic.
I doubt they were anyone notable. since birth i have been unable to cast a single spell. My mana is only enough to strengthen my body enough to survive the blows i get from school. Although i have incredible control to be able to strengthen my body without using body strengthening magic, what's the point if i barely have any?
I soldiered through the day, though i could hardly focus in class due to not being able to buy lunch. And finally arrived at the welx house, A modest and small house. The sight of it made me sigh in relief. Allia ran over to slammed me with a huge hug. I could barely react before i was slammed to the ground. I slightly groaned and used my mana to ease the pain. But what she would say next would completely rid me of it.
"I was accepted into barion academy!" She yelled as she shook me with superman strength, mana subconsciously spreading through their body as her excitement spread through her voice. I could hardly register what i was hearing. Barion academy? the greatest magic school in not only this country but likely the world? "I took the entrance test and they were so impressed that the academy is going to pay for all my fees and even the welx family debt and then some! You mom and dad will live in luxury!" Her bond, a winged wolf like creature, noticed us and came to play with us as we excitedly fooled around. Allia was going to have the future she deserved! The welx family would have the life they deserved!
Id seen allia practice and we had gone to some tournaments she was involved in, but for the greatest magic academy in history to go to such lengths to secure her? i could never imagine such a situation. I pity for whoever would stand in her way in the future.
Eventually we became tired and went back inside, Still laughing and chuckling. "Sup my little champs, Felix welx said as he gave us both a bear hug. "Hey dad," we said happily but struggling to breath. This got worse when merium welx joined in. As people who had spent their lives usproper magic, they were incredibly strong compared to a mere cripple like me.. The fact that they worked as small time monster hunters was not helping my survival chances.
Before we could start our celebrations though, a knock was heard at the door. Instantly, it was if a dark blanket had been cast over the entire home. There was only one type of person the would knock at this hour. The black toad gang.
The black toad gang was not a particularly large or powerful gang, but compared to the welx family they were powerful, and they could force us to bend to their will.
Felix quickly grabbed a pouch of money off the table and ran to the door. Allia tugged on his pants. "Father, i am a student of barion! there is no reason to bend to the will of these tyrants!" Felix sighed. Allia i apologize. we still cannot afford. angering a gang like the black toads.
The man outside banged the door again, And this time it seemed like the door could simply come off its hinges at a moments notice. Felix hurried to the door and opened it cautiously.
"The rent as usual." A muscular bald man with a scar on his left cheek. Demanded as he held out his hand. Felix hurriedly handed the man the pouch.
The looked at the pouch for a moment, and we all stood in anticipation. Suddenly the mans expression changed. "You think this is enough?" He yelled as he punched my father. He attempted to retaliate with fired magic but the man simply countered with rock. He kicked felix and he flew across the house.
I was devastated. The man i had viewed as invincible, as my father had been defeated in an instant. He layed there, unconscious and barely breathing. My mother began to tear up in sadness. A cry of rage was heard throughout the house. A bright flash was seen. and before the man could even react, he was already on the ground, allia stood above him furious.
She began to bombard him with spells until he was a blooy mess begging her to stop. Stop merium said quietly, As it would seem allia would soon become the murderer of this man scum as he may be.
Merium yelled stop before allia could deliver the finishing blow, and the man quickly scurried off screaming. I stood there in silence that allia could be capable of such things.
Black toad gang leader POV
I shook my fist angrily at small amount of money i had been brought by my lackey. "Where is the rest," I asked, mana gathering at my fist. "I was injured before i could gather enough money to satisfy you my lord."
"How?"
"Um, well one of the of the targets had a very powerful family member."
"And what family was this?"
"The welx's"
