That evening, of the same day that Agnes went to the tower, Stefan and Francesca returned to their small stone-built home after a grueling day at work.
When they lay down on their bed to sleep, Stefan revealed to her Agnes's visit.
"Do you remember Agnes from Lord Augustine's mansion?" he asked, surprising her by the question.
In the darkness, however, Stefan hadn't noticed her reaction.
"Yes, I remember her. Why are you asking?" she asked him in as calm a voice as she could.
She couldn't believe her ears. How could this bad girl dare to go and meet Stefan?
And what had she told him? Is it possible that she revealed to him all that had happened? All the truth?
But after thinking it, she ruled out that possibility. Stefan wouldn't have been so calm If she had told him. Unless it was a trick, he had thought of to see if she would confess him the truth by herself. At this thought, cold sweat began to bathe her. How would she deal with it?
