Chapter 13: So you decided to come back to life.

Kathleen's eyes widened in panic and she suddenly placed her hands on her baby bump, her teeth gritting in pain.

"What is it, Kathleen?" Elizabeth instantly grabbed her shoulder.

"My stomach hurts," beads of sweat were already forming on Kathleen's forehead.

With just two strides of his long legs, the man arrived at Kathleen's side followed by the woman.

With furrowed brows, the woman's eyes darted all over Kathleen.

Taking Kathleen's hand, she felt her pulse then instructed calmly. "Look at me, don't be scared. Now, take a deep breath."

Kathleen was trapped in the mesmerizing purple eyes that were exactly like hers and obeyed automatically.

"Now exhale." After repeating the actions several times, not willing to look away from those beautiful eyes for a second, Kathleen felt better.

She knew without being told that they were her parents, Robin and Stacy Wyatt.

Kathleen was a splitting image of the man; the female version though. She bore a slight resemblance to the lady, however, their lustrous blonde hair and color of eyes were exactly the same.

"Mom, dad?" she called out in a low voice, her eyes flickering from Stacy to Robin.

"My baby…, sorry I found you late, please forgive mummy, ….."

She wasn't able to finish the sentence when she noticed the liquid dripping down Kathleen's legs.

"Her water has broken, and she should be in labor, hurry up, let's take her to the hospital."

Elizabeth, who was already a nervous wreck sprang up immediately, rushed to the door, came back, made to go to Kathleen's room and came back, looked at her long lost friend and asked, "what do we do?"

Despite the situation, Stacy couldn't help but shake her head and say with a pathetic smile, "you're still like this Betty after so many years. How can you be so muddle-headed? She's already in labor. Has her bag been packed?"

"Bag?Oh. Yes, Yes," answered Elizabeth.

"Then send someone to get it." I can't believe I still need to tell you what to do. How have you been managing all these years without me by your side?"

"Of course, I've been doing great," Elizabeth threw back, clearly not in the mood to quibble with Stacy and called out to the butler. "Alex! inform the driver to prepare the car without delay."

"Right away Madam."

"Mrs Carr… Mrs Carr… where are you..? She's never available when needed."

Mrs Carr rushed in at that moment. "Madam, you called me?"

"Hurry up and go to Kathleen's room, get the bag I instructed you to pack for the hospital from her wardrobe, you're going with us to the hospital."

"There'll be no need for her to tag along, Betty. We'll accompany our daughter to the hospital," Stacy Wyatt said, already helping Kathleen to her feet.

"Come on Robin, give me a hand with Janice," she said to her husband.

All these while, Robin Wyatt had not said anything. He couldn't believe his daughter who had disappeared for years was before his very eyes and to crown it all, he was going to be a grandfather out of the blues. His eyes were tearing just at the thought of that. He has never felt this happy in a long while.

In less than five minutes Elizabeth was able to organize everything and they took off at lightning speed to the hospital.

There were nurses already waiting for them at the entrance of the hospital when they arrived and Kathleen was taken straight to the labor room.

Her vitals were taken to assess her condition.

"She's already in labour, prepare her and take her to the delivery room," the doctor instructed the nurses.

"Then hook her on to a fetal monitor so that we can track the babies' heart rate and monitor her contraction pattern."

Two hours into the labour, Professor Gaius entered the delivery room. It appears Elizabeth had called him at some point.

"So you finally decided to come back to life." His gaze was full of mockery as he glanced at Stacy.

"I…," began Stacy, her expression complicated.

"Forget it," he cut in tersely. "You decided to run away 26 years ago, what have I got to do with you?"

Looking at Kathleen writhing in pain on the delivery table, he frowned, "why has she not given birth yet?"

"Her dilation rate is very slow Prof. From her medical history, her pregnancy had some complications at the initial stage, I think a C-section will be the best option at this point," Dr Smith, the chief surgeon in Roseville hospital suggested hesitatingly.

"Tsk! There will be no need for that," Prof Gaius dismissed with a wave of the hand.

He then proceeded to do some acupuncture treatment to speed up the labour.

Not long afterwards, the contractions became more frequent and every contraction brought with it a pain that overwhelmed Kathleen's entire being. All her life, she had never experienced pain that was as severe as the one she was currently going through.

"Prof, why is the pain this much, didn't you say the pain won't be too severe, I don't think I can take it anymore," Kathleen cried out amidst pains.

"Hold on my dear, it's called labor pains. Just persevere and it will be over soon. Don't be chicken hearted like a certain someone that I don't want to be bothered with." While saying that he just cast a disdainful look at Stacy who was still holding Kathleen's hand.

"Listen, you must push hard while the pain is at its peak," Professor Gaius instructed as Stacy wiped the sweat off Kathleen's face.

Two minutes later, Kathleen felt a more intense wave of pain and screamed.

"You can now push, he said"

She pushed with every strength she could muster until she was asked to stop.

She repeated the process four more times through each subsequent contraction, the pain so excruciating that she feared she was about to die.

It was so piercing that nothing could have been more terrible during those split-second intervals that seemed to last forever.

At some point, she experienced a burning, stinging sensation around her vaginal opening as it stretched. She was told that her baby was crowning and with one final prompt from Prof Gaius, Kathleen pushed with an earth shattering growl and her baby slid into the waiting hands of the Prof..

A vociferous wail rang through the entire room as he made his presence known.

He was pink all over and so tiny with puffy eyes. 'This is my son.' A smile formed on Kathleen's parched lips as she saw him for the first time.

She was still basking in the euphoria of motherhood when she felt another bout of pain, Prof Gaius who had been keeping watch took position between her legs again.

"Now!" he urged again. "Push now!"

She shut her eyes, with clenched jaws and pushed, accompanied by a guttural sound…
