Chapter 14: Do you have an appointment?

It's been six years since Kathleen left Baltimore and seeing the place again brought back some nostalgic memories. Nothing much had changed about the place, but the person returning with two adorable children was completely different from the one that left six years ago.

"Mom, how come there's no one here to receive us, are you sure Mr Duncan has not forgotten the time of our arrival?" complained a sweet, chubby but beautiful girl; her thick curly blonde locks bouncing on her shoulders.

"Shhh… Eleanor, how can you say that about him?" rebuked Elvis. "Mr Duncan is not that kind of person, even though sometimes he would confuse mummy with grandma, his memory is still as sharp as a three-year-old's." With his two little hands clasped behind his back, neatly styled hair and the serious expression in those sapphire blue eyes, he had a dignified aura even at such a young age.

"What can a three year old remember? you might as well say that Mr Duncan doesn't even have a memory," Eleanor snorted.

"Can you two stop arguing for once, my head is about to fall off, please show some mercy and be quiet." Kathleen was already exasperated by their constant bantering.

"Of course mummy, you know I'm the most merciful, if anything were to happen to your head, I'll operate on it, pronto"

"Eleanor Wyatt!" yelled Elvis, "can you grow up a bit? mum is not one of your stupid dolls that you perform experiments on."

"Mum…," cried an aggrieved Eleanor.

"Your toys are the best dear, and I'm sure you'll be a great doctor someday just like your grandma." Eleanor has always been a spoiled little princess by her grandparents, and Kathleen had no choice but to coax her now as she wasn't in the mood for one of her tantrums.

Just then, a limited edition silver Rolls Royce pulled up in front of them and a well dressed gentleman hurried out.

Bowing deeply, he said, "I'm very sorry Madam to have kept you waiting. I was held up by traffic."

"That's Ok Mr Duncan, we just got off the plane and have not been waiting for long."

"How is my brother?"

"President Wyatt is doing fine and can't wait to see you," replied Mr Duncan as he turned to the children.

"Master Elvis, Miss Eleanor, you are both welcome to Baltimore, how was your flight?"

"Thank you Mr Duncan, it was good," chorused the two children.

"Are these all your luggage?" Duncan asked respectfully.

"Yes, you can move them to the trunk."

"Would you like to get to the company first or go home to freshen up?" Duncan asked after taking his seat behind the wheel.

"Drop me at the company first then take the children home to rest. They're tired from the long flight and I'm sure the chairman of Mason Group will be waiting for me by now."

"Yes Ma'am," replied Mr Duncan, "not only him but this morning three other companies sent their representatives with proposals for a cooperation."

It took them about thirty minutes to arrive at the company.

"We are here Madam," announced Mr Duncan.

"Thanks so much, please take the children home, you don't need to send me in," Kathleen said.

"But Madam, President Jason specifically instructed me to bring you up since you're new here."

"I don't need a grand entry, moreover, Jason told me the design here is the same as the one abroad, so I'm sure I'll find my way to the president's office. I also want to see how things work around here that's why I'll be going in through the front door and not the underground parking lot. Ok?"

"Yes Ma'am, but I'll have to inform President Jason that you're at the company"

"Go ahead then."

"Elvis, take care of your sister and ensure you don't give your nanny a hard time, I'll meet you at home as soon as I'm done with my work here."

"And remember, take your milk…"

"... no carbonated drinks, you are still growing up and need to be always healthy," echoed the two cuties as they completed Kathleen's instructions for her.

Kathleen was speechless and could only ruffle their heads with a smile.

They were so adorable, their faces which still had baby fat were like two peas in a pod as they both gave her a "we know, mummy" smile.

She leaned in and gave each of them a kiss on their cheeks, before stepping out of the car.

Wyatt Corporations was very large, looming conspicuously at the center of the city. The eighty-seven floor building was an architectural masterpiece, creating an ambience that was both unique and intimidating.

Kathleen walked in through the giant hinge door into the reception and towards the receptionist.

"Hello ma'am, how may I help you?" The receptionist asked, giving Kathleen a nice professional smile.

"I'm here to see President Wyatt," Kathleen replied.

"Do you have an appointment?"

The response Kathleen was prepared to give froze on her lips when a disdainful voice spoke.

"These days even paupers think they can appear at the same place as the nobles. They even have the audacity to think the President can see anyone casually." This was followed by a cold snort.

Kathleen was taken aback. She wasn't aware that she had offended someone as soon as she came back?

'Hold on, that voice was somewhat familiar, I can recognize it anywhere. Other than Linda Beazell, there's hardly anyone that is as averse to my existence in Baltimore as her.'

Sure enough, as Kathleen turned around, she was confronted by a pair of hateful eyes.

She was dressed in a designer labeled outfit and looked as snobbish as ever. Her green eyes shrouded with hatred and other unknown emotions.

'Is she not supposed to be happy seeing I have left her beloved Shawn to her all these years? Why does she look so angry with me?'

"Miss Beazell, who is she? Do you know her?" asked a brunette with thick make-up.

"Who else but a two-timing nobody, someone that should have disappeared and hidden her head in shame but decided to be more shameless instead," Linda Beazell replied with open disdain.
