Synopsis
Zhao Du'an, a government official leading a cautious life, finds himself transported to another world where he becomes the favored 'pretty face' of a female emperor and an oppressive, power-abusing villain. Before he can relish the moment, he faces mortal danger for releasing a national criminal. Cornered and desperate, he plans to soothe the female emperor to seek mercy, only to discover his 'leading gigolo' role is a sham.
Worse still, his notorious reputation prompts officials and heroes alike to impeach and eliminate him; and martial artists and clerical magicians consider him a disgrace. Overwhelmed, Zhao Du'an decides it's better to stop being human to survive.

Truly appreciate the development around the MC. Although the story tries to tend towards romance but not quite yet. It is quite intriguing to read some palatial theatrics after a long list of cultivation novels, I guess. It's a good read, and I would recommend to give it a try, although translation still fails to rectify the pronouns and titles sometimes. P.S.: I would be thankful to those who suggest me some good novels that has some of the elements like 'court intrigues', with some comedy elements, less on the 'romance' and 'raw violence' department. Thanks.
The very first paragraph of this book succeeds in immersing one in a different world. I've finished reading the free chapters, and I can say with conviction that it is a far better read than most. For a change, the ruling structure and power scaling seem to be well thought out, and the grudges and designs are interesting. The politics at play aren't laughable, and the people in power are described well enough. Some far-fetched events do occur, but it does not take away from the intrigue. However, the translation isn't great. It's not horrible either, but there are some glaring errors. For instance, a woman wrongly refers to her (step) son as 'husband' multiple times. Occasionally, entire paragraphs get lost in translation. I sincerely hope this novel doesn't end up being a harem novel. It would really take away from the character settings and would honestly make no sense. Given the way things are progressing, my somewhat sizeable experience reading CNs suggests that I may be disappointed in this regard, but one can still hope. The main character's lascivious thoughts on seeing beautiful women, in particular, make me feel that this work may be headed in such a direction. I'd be grateful to any kind soul who has access to the raws and can warn me about the future direction of this work before I continue.
