The very first paragraph of this book succeeds in immersing one in a different world. I've finished reading the free chapters, and I can say with conviction that it is a far better read than most. For a change, the ruling structure and power scaling seem to be well thought out, and the grudges and designs are interesting. The politics at play aren't laughable, and the people in power are described well enough. Some far-fetched events do occur, but it does not take away from the intrigue. However, the translation isn't great. It's not horrible either, but there are some glaring errors. For instance, a woman wrongly refers to her (step) son as 'husband' multiple times. Occasionally, entire paragraphs get lost in translation. I sincerely hope this novel doesn't end up being a harem novel. It would really take away from the character settings and would honestly make no sense. Given the way things are progressing, my somewhat sizeable experience reading CNs suggests that I may be disappointed in this regard, but one can still hope. The main character's lascivious thoughts on seeing beautiful women, in particular, make me feel that this work may be headed in such a direction. I'd be grateful to any kind soul who has access to the raws and can warn me about the future direction of this work before I continue.

I quite liked it. I usually enjoy reading family slice-of-life stories, and this one clears the checklist. Sweet moments, a leisurely pace, and well written characters. The problems faced by the main characters are real, and it is a grounded story. There is, however, a bit of an overly dramatic feel to events. Too many coincidences, too many forced situations that simply weren't required. Still, if you enjoy this genre, it is worth reading.

It's certainly very well written, with a nicely established world background. There are a few grammatical errors, but the meaning gets across well enough. The proceedings are interesting, with a sustained tension, and the schemes and machinations involved are fun to read. I personally liked how a seemingly desperate situation was gradually overturned, all due to the efforts of the protagonist. The trials were also constructed well, making them seem like an important event, rather than a random examination that could have been covered in a chapter or two, as most hunter exams in novels tend to be. So many chapters spent covering hunter exams should normally be a negative, but in this case, it is quite the opposite. However, the character designs could have been handled better. For some reason, the author chooses to give sexual undertones to every interaction the protagonist has with a woman. They are always flirtatious in nature, with the protagonist reciprocating to a certain extent. Emotional infidelity is a complex topic, but I'm sure most would agree when I say that it's not fair to his wife. The male characters introduced are almost always either eccentric and mysterious, or simply irritating in his perception. It is a repetitive setup in this sense. This work hasn't been updated in a while, so I'm not sure whether it'll be continued, but the available chapters finished on a real high note. It undeniably arouses my curiosity, and I've been left with the feeling of wanting more.

It is an intriguing read, quite different from other novels with this setting. The planning and foresight also make it significantly better, making it feel much more like a polished novel than most entries on this platform, especially in this genre. The character designs are great; I personally loved how they've been written. To make everyone feel like their own entity, despite some barely participating in proceedings, is not an easy task by any measure. The mental health of most characters in situations similar to these is often ignored, but the author does well to not only include it but also make it look natural. There are quite a few grammatical errors and some repeated errors. It's still better than average webnovel quality, but this work is good enough for me to evaluate as a proper novel, rather than a webnovel entry, so I'm holding it to higher standards. However, I was disappointed by some of the writing. While this work loosely follows the vein of a tragedy, with the protagonist suffering throughout, the plot choices sometimes make it feel forced. Midway through a particular arc, the story becomes needlessly convoluted, with the revelations surrounding Jin and Brandon Locke not landing an impact. Even 400-odd chapters later, there are more questions than answers, and nothing is known about the main disaster that Brandon seems to be preparing so fervently to face. The author keeps introducing new variables in the story, while unexplored plotlines still remain, perhaps in a worse state than when they were introduced.  With all that said, it's definitely worth exploring, if only for the interesting world built by the author.

The writing quality deteriorates progressively. Grammar and sentence structure aren't the only issues, as even the plot fails to be engaging. The protagonist is, like in many of the stories in this genre, an unprecedented talent. Armed with knowledge of the game that this world is based on, everything comes to him very easily, making proceedings boring. Attempts at humour fall flat, and the few fights that do take place are described in a dull and impassionate manner. The whole first volume of sixty chapters feels like a ridiculously long prologue. Characters aren't realistic or well designed either. I'm quite sure that any parent with teenage children would agree with me when I say that his parents trust him way too much. A 27-year-old flirting with his 16-year-old fiancée also makes for uncomfortable reading. Overall, this work isn't nearly as good as the ratings suggest.

It's not something I'd read unless I had a lot of free time, and nothing to do with it. Despite the generic title, the story does contain a few novel ideas. Unfortunately, there are some aspects that ruin this work, namely the low translation quality, the discontinuation of the novel as a whole, and the weak character design. I'm not against slow moving stories in general, but this one has very convenient plot devices that make it look superficial. There are also many unanswered questions that are alluded to but never addressed in future chapters, making them redundant.

A frustrating read. The main character has a very small role in proceedings, preferring to start out of the limelight despite being very powerful. The author opts for an absurd plot point where the main character is not aware of his own strength, and overprepares for situations that end up being extremely simple for him to deal with. There is never any real sense of danger for his disciples either, since their master can solve any problem they could ever possibly face. This makes for a very dull journey, where everything comes easy for the disciple characters.

Nothing new, nothing different. It's a tried and tested premise, and the execution isn't anything to write home about either. The translation is horrible, and really disrupts the reading experience.

A very late review, perhaps, but here we go all the same. A lovely novel. Sure, it has its flaws, but no other novel had me hungry for more quite like this one. Likeable characters, conflicts that I actually cared about, comedic moments, interesting fights and a quirky plot. Nostalgia possibly has a big role to play in my undiminished admiration for this work, but its appeal is apparent regardless of the view through my rose-tinted glasses. All one needs to do is to try it, and further encouragement becomes meaningless, since this novel will not let you stop. All this coming from someone who hated the climax portions, and the incessantly repetitive power progression of the main character. Long story short, I highly recommend it. While the destination may not be worth it by itself, the journey definitely makes it enjoyable.
