Chapter 26: New enemies

The simulation wasn't over yet. I watched that spot of moving ground. It wasn't the only spot that was moving either. I tensed, and steadied myself. My muscles tensed as I readied myself.

Stepping away from the moving ground slowly, and carefully. I didn't know how strong these things were or how they tracked me so caution was my best option. One of them started to surface slowly. It was a freaky looking thing. Like a worm with spikes on all sides, and its head looked like that of a snake with no eyes, but bigger.

Focused on it as it raised its head slowly. It head made a gross peeling sound, like duck tape being peeled off rubber, as its head peeled apart into four sections slowly. I felt my heart rate pick up as another surfaced slowly. I wanted to move away from the creature in front of me, but I couldn't without making some sort of sound. It didn't have eyes so it had to be listening for me.

Two more surfaced, so now I was surrounded by these creatures. They started gurgling at me. Their heads were all clearly directed at me. I was pretty sure they could see me. One jumped at me, and I dodged it, but the others seemed to focus on me now that I'd moved.

I lashed out. Striking the one in next to me quickly. Its spikes broke on my skin as my punch propelled the nasty thing away from me. It burrowed back into the ground quickly. The other three all followed the first one back into the ground.

I stopped a growl from making its way out of my throat. I couldn't sound like a beast in my human form. That defeated the whole purpose of the camouflage. I rushed forward quickly. Grabbing my gun of the ground, and ejecting the clip quickly.

I went to shove the clip back in when that freaky snake mouth clamped onto my foot. It pulled itself out of the ground slowly curling around my leg slowly. I slammed the clip back in as another one of them clamped down on my other foot. I pointed the gun down at my foot, and watched as the last two started dragging me down into the ground. I started shooting.

I didn't like these creatures. I wouldn't let them bury me. I shot them over, and over again. Until they started melting one by one.

2 Greapers killed 30 xp awarded. 65/200 xp until level 5. Marksmanship level up. Marksmanship level 3.

Greapers huh? I wondered briefly as I ejected the clip. Slamming it back into place so I could shoot the other two on my other leg. No mercy was given to them as I emptied the clip into the two of them. They melted off my leg slowly, but they'd had time to bury me up to my knee.

95/200 xp until level 5.

"Simulation complete," the computers monotone voice made me look up.

My leg was shot out of the fake ground as everything started melting back into flat grey field. I stumbled back, and it was hard to keep my balance on one leg as the ground moved. I managed to get my foot back down flat on the ground, and got most of my balance back as the ground slowed. Stopping when it was back to flat. I straightened slowly, and looked at the little gun for a second.

"Nicely done," Goliath clapped once to draw my attention, "I haven't seen a first year complete that course by themselves before."

"What?" I felt a chill run through me, "I didn't do that good did I?"

I felt this urge to run away, but I wanted to confirm that he knew something before I ran. I started walking toward him when he didn't say anything else. Nervously climbing up the ladder, and stepping up over the ledge. Goliath walked down to me slowly. He stopped a few feet from me, and looked around slowly.

Checking the doors out for a few seconds each.

"I find it hard to believe that you don't have an ability," Goliath crossed his big arms skeptically.

"Nope," I smiled nervously, "No ability here."

Goliath grabbed my injured shoulder suddenly. I winced, and held my ground as Goliath used his free hand to push my sleeve up slowly. He whistled, and raised his eyebrows. Nodding slowly as he released his grip on my shoulder.

"Healing a bit too quick for a class F," Goliath crossed him arms again.

"Just my natural talent at work," My hand went up to my shoulder slowly, and stopped when I realized I still had the gun in my hand, "This is yours."

I held the gun out to him. Goliath took it, and looked it over as if it were the most interesting thing in the universe. I took this opportunity to start heading out.

"Club meeting isn't over yet," Goliath spoke up before I could leave, "I can tell you're not a bad kid Wyatt. I can only think of one reason why you wouldn't come forward with your ability."

I turned around slowly to face him.

"Relax," Goliath walked towards me slowly, "I won't say anything, and I don't want you to tell me anything either, but I would hold back when the other club members get here. In my opinion there aren't enough people like you on our side."

"You're okay with this," I looked at him skeptically.

"With what?" Goliath smiles, "Well, we're done for today. Until the rest of club members get here there isn't much for us to do."

I turned slowly. Watching Goliath carefully as I moved away from him slowly. I opened the door, and went out of the dome building. I started heading back towards my room. I didn't know what Goliath was getting at, but he seemed to know I was archaic.

At the very least he knew I was a mage. I didn't think he knew I was an archaic beast. Not just an archaic beast, but an intelligent one. I didn't know what he was trying to get out of just letting me go. Even though he knew I was a mage.

I was so deep in thought I didn't notice when Luke stepped into front of me. I flat out walked into him.

"Oh sorry," I looked up at him, "Just heading back to my room."

Luke grabbed me stopping me from leaving.

"Why are you walking around like you own the place?" Luke tightened his grip on my arm.

"I'm not a fragile little girl," I frowned, "Squeezing won't make me squeal like one."
