Chapter 206: Absorbed skill
I flared my wings as I lowered my head to growl at the stupid demon in front of me. I temporarily had the mana of two additional dragons to draw from. If I didn't kill him before I ran out I'd be dead. I had two skills that I'd learned of when going through the memories of the female water dragon. She had been quite the magic enthusiast.
I gently pulled my tail off of Goliath. Flaring my wings again as I prowled closer. Activating the spell I'd learned from her. Creating a copy of myself from water, and ice as I spread a thin mist out around me. The mist was so thin that it was barely visible even to my sharp eyes.
It consumed a lot of mana so I'd need to end this fight quickly. The mist refracted the light around my water double. Making it's color match my own closely. Refracting my own color to make myself appear less real. The copy rushed forward.
The demon slashed his sword creating a flaming sword strike that ripped the water clone in half. More mist was thrown into the air as one copy became two. The demon's surprise had gotten him to take his eyes off of me. He slashed again, and two became three. His familiar lashed out, and three became seven.
I couldn't make them as strong or as fast as me, but I was relying on the sheer number of them. They were even harder to control than my ice needles. I could feel myself nearing my mental limit quickly. My mana reserve had dropped to almost nothing after barely more than a minute of this fighting. I found that I couldn't make more than ten, and control them at the same time.
Refracting the light on the other hand. That was easy. I distorted the light for everything within my mist area. I reduced the number of copies to three, and threw realistic illusions at the demon, and his familiar. Mixing in attacks from the actual copies as well.
The demon was getting more, and more irritated. He was so irritated that he didn't notice his flaming familiar getting overwhelmed, or that they were slowly being separated. I leapt through the mist completely unseen since I changed my color to match the sun-bleached environment around us, and distorted the light. Grabbing onto the overwhelmed familiar as it lashed out, and freezing it. Pouring mana from the blue crystal I'd absorbed into freezing the flaming snake that writhed in pain.
The demon realized too late what I'd been wasting mana on this whole time was a distraction. He couldn't sense me coming with my mana spread everywhere. He flapped his wings hard dispersing the mana laced mist in his immediate surroundings. Revealing my deception as I froze his familiar to death. It was a wasteful way to use mana, but I didn't have time to think over my mana use.
"You bastard!" He screamed at me in a rage as he flapped his wings.
Launching himself far into the air with that single powerful wing beat. Turning so he can launch attacks down on us from above only to be reminded that he wasn't the only one with wings. I grabbed his legs, and dug my teeth into him. Injecting all the venom I had in my glands. The paralytic, and the basilisk venom.
He slashed down with his sword. Slicing into my neck as I recoiled away from the blow to avoid getting my head cut off. Letting him go as I tumbled back to the earth. Flaring my wings to slow my descent. I stumbled into an awkward landing as the demon came back down as well.
He was fighting off the basilisk venom that was turning him to stone. I didn't know if the paralytic venom from the Jackers was doing anything. I didn't have time to wait for the venom to take effect. I needed to kill him now before he retaliated. I rushed forward.
Trying to get to him before he was able to fight off the poison. He lashed out with his blade as I got close. Only to be grabbed from behind by a massive fist. His movement was restricted by Goliath's massive fist. I continued forward.
Launching myself over his massive fingers as I buried my teeth into his neck. Ripping his throat out with a single jerk of my neck. Jumping back so I would be clear of his blade when Goliath let go. Goliath's fingers got burned by a desperate burst of flames. Forcing him to release his grip or risk losing his fingers.
I rushed into those flames. Ignoring the pain as I was burned from all angles. Slamming my teeth into whatever fleshy part of his body that I could reach first. Biting down as hard as I could. When the flames died out I found that my teeth were dug into his shoulder.
I yanked my teeth out of his shoulder as the basilisk venom started turning him to stone even faster than it was before. I healed myself with the mana from the second dragon crystal. I'd completely absorbed the first one in the fight. I'd started the fight with no mana so just absorbing one crystal was lucky. I'd lost most the information the blue crystal had brought me.
Fighting, and absorbing the information the crystal gave me at the same time didn't exactly work in my favor. My legs wobbled as the corpse finished turning to stone. I collapsed. Completely spent. I was exhausted before round two had even started.
Goliath was still shrinking down when my eyes closed. Sinking into comfortable warmth. I can't go to sleep here I tried to pull myself out of the darkness. It's too dangerous. I need to get somewhere safe first.
Goliath was in no condition to protect me. He had to be exhausted as I was. I'd handled him gently because I thought his ribs might be broken. He would barely be able to breath. Let alone fight.
