Chapter 274: 9

Aurora looked up at me hesitantly. Freezing in place as if she'd just been caught doing something she wasn't supposed to be doing. She was nervous when it came to talking to Goliath for multiple reasons. For one. She'd only spoken to me so far.

Ethan was aware of the conversation, but the others weren't as good at reading me. Aurora knew that I couldn't really keep secrets from Ethan. For one Ethan was quite good at reading me, and the more he got good at reading me better the stronger his bond got. Aurora looked at me funny before backing away from Goliath, and sitting back on her haunches.

"I would like to stay with you," Aurora looked at Goliath hesitantly as she shrank back, "The same way Ethan stays with Wyatt."

Goliath looked stunned by how well the young drakeling was able to speak. At the same time I thought he would say something, but he remained completely silent. I'd never seen Goliath so stunned by anything in his life. My wings twitched as I waited to see how Goliath would respond to Aurora. I wanted to know if he'd take the option in front of him.

Goliath had his own ingrained hatred toward Archaic species, but his wasn't as one sided as most people. He was willing to work with me, and helped me a great deal throughout my time in school. His relationship with the alpha was another example of his flexible mindset. Goliath looked at me in confusion as he tried to figure out what the end goal was here. I was hard to read due to my ability to change forms so easily.

I stretched as I debated on experimenting with my shapeshifting ability again. I'd gotten pretty good at combining different elements of my dragon body with my human form. I hadn't managed to make a form that combined perfectly with my dragon abilities yet. I was getting pretty close to what I wanted.

"Goliath," I smirked at this odd stand off, "You can talk back to her."

"She wants me to become her bonded?" Goliath looked at me curiously, "How does that work?"

"Oh so you're not saying no?" I glanced down at Aurora who was fumbling with her little hands.

"I don't understand what becoming her bonded means," Goliath frowned at me, "What does it change?"

"Ethan would know better than me what it changes for you," I intentionally tried to draw him into the conversation.

Ethan flinched as if he'd been smacked when Goliath's gaze fell on him. I swung my tail around behind him, and pushed him forward. Forcing him to join the conversation whether he wanted to or not.

"Go on," I gave him another nudge forward.

"It changes everything," Ethan looked at the ground while he was talking, "You get access to the emotions of the dragon first, but it's more than that. It protects you from your dragon's magic, and as it gets stronger you become more loyal to each other. It becomes a way you can communicate. Share memories. Share power. We don't even have the strongest bond yet."

Goliath looked at Aurora again, "I don't have anything against becoming your bonded Aurora."

I figured he'd say yes. I could sense when someone was compatible with me so it stood to reason that Aurora also had that ability. She'd taken a liking to him the moment she realized that he wasn't someone to fear. My only worry was how Goliath would react. Goliath was far more accepting when it came to earthborn Archaics.

"I have a few things I need to do before we get to know each other better," Goliath smiled down at her gently.

Aurora jumped onto his lap, grabbing his head, and pressing her own to his forehead. I felt it like a thread of lifeforce suddenly started connecting the two of them. Goliath's eyes widened as soon as the connection was formed. He wasn't prepared for her to jump head first into bonding with him. Aurora yawned, and dropped down into his lap.

A faint image of a dragon lingered above his heart for a few seconds before fading away. I didn't think anyone saw it but me. My eyes were considerably stronger then anyone else here. It made me wonder if the same thing happened when I bonded with the others. I took the same form I'd had the last time I went to the town, and headed that way without Goliath.

He'd need a little time to adjust to what just happened. I walked into town without the slightest bit of hesitation. The wolves recognized that I was using the same face I'd used before. I was more worried about Goliath's idiot friend. Being left alone in town was almost a guarantee that he would do something he shouldn't.

I kept walking until I was close to the guest house he was staying at. I could test that circle when I got back. If it did what I thought it did then I could charge the crystals up with my extra energy. Then send them back to the earth when they were full to be placed in the circle. Over, and over again until I could return.

I wanted to stretch my wings out in the sunlight, but that wasn't a good idea for now. I stood outside of the guest house for a little while. Checking to see if he was still in the house with my infrared. He wasn't in there. My eyes narrowed as I looked around the village.

Werewolves ran hotter than humans so it should be easy enough to spot him. He wasn't too far away, and he appeared to be arguing with someone. I rushed to their location. Putting mana through my limbs to strengthen myself, and increase my speed. I was still as fast as the werewolves even with my strength cut down.

The reduction in my strength was much smaller than when I was using physical camouflage. I was at about seventy-five percent of my original strength. I leapt over one of the buildings in my path. Taking full advantage of my high strength, and reduced weight. I landed behind a group of angry wolves.
