Chapter 271: 6

"What happened to you?" Goliath sat down carefully so Aurora could keep sleeping on his shoulder.

"Do you really need an answer to that question?" I smirked to myself.

He shook his head. He already knew what happened to me.

"How is she possible?" Goliath stroked her gently, and she began purring lightly.

"I don't plan on answering that question," I flicked the tip of my tail against the wall.

Creating a smack sound. Like stone smacking against stone. My scales were harder than any normal human could penetrate after all.

"I was under the assumption that you were male, and the only dragon," Goliath ran his fingers along the underside of her jaw gently.

Encouraging more purring out of her.

"No," I crossed my arms one over the other, "I didn't lay an egg if that's what you're asking."

"Then how did you get a dragon egg?" Goliath looked at me thoughtfully.

"I found it," I answered vaguely.

"You really don't intend to tell me," He shook his head, "How did Jax get here? I'd heard he disappeared, but I didn't know you took him."

"Nix told me it was my fault that I ended up here," Jax didn't appear to like calling me Wyatt when I was in dragon form.

"Idiot decided to take a piece of my mind after entering one of my dreams," I snorted, "He became one of my bonded. By force. I just didn't choose to terminate the connection."

"Terminate?" Goliath looked at Jax again, "Hostile choice of words."

"I think Wyatt was being pretty generous," Savannah shrugged, "It would have been a painful experience for him to be cut off with how strong his forced bond is."

Ethan just nodded in agreement. Those two seemed to be able to talk freely now that Ethan had gotten used to Savannah. It was only a matter of time before they became more than friendly associates. My lip curled up into a half smile. Ethan was already starting to think romantically about Savannah.

My bond with Savannah wasn't strong enough yet to know if she thought the same way. Savannah often reminisced, and worried about the things she was missing out on now that she'd been taken with me, but she seemed to be turning to Ethan for support. I wasn't much help when it came to moral support. I was glad that they could rely on each other. I wished I could give them more support emotionally.

I wasn't really that kind of creature. I got angry easily, and protected my bonded to the best of my ability. They could rely on me for that. I just had to hope that that was enough, and keep pushing forward until I knew for sure that it was. My wings twitched as I stared at Aurora.

"He's been treating you all well then?" Goliath continued to stroke Aurora absentmindedly.

"Of course," Savannah shrugged, "We've been training hand to hand with the wolves, and he's been pushing me to increase my mana pool."

"His unique elemental awareness has been helpful in learning through observation," Jax shrugged.

Ethan just shrugged. Sure he was fine with talking to Savannah, and the wolves. Goliath on the other hand.

"Still not the talkative type," Goliath tried to ease Aurora off his shoulders, and into his lap, "I'll get Reynold's out of here as soon as I can. He's a nuisance even under normal circumstances. His hatred for other races, and his human supremacy complex make him the worst man to come here."

"You still owe me a favor since I managed to get here on my own," I smirked as I moved forward to take Aurora from him, "We can discuss that after you're done with your racist friend."

Aurora's eyes opened slightly as she clung to Goliath tightly. She growled at me tiredly as I picked her up. Easing her down so she was between my arms, and my chest. She crawled up on my hands, and watched Goliath leave before falling asleep again. She liked him.

I hadn't expected her to like him so much or for him to allow her to cuddle him like that. I wondered what would happen if I allowed her to push for this connection. She'd always been indifferent about anyone she met except for me. The reason she liked me was obvious. I'm a dragon just like her.

Sure she played with the wolf pups, but she didn't prefer any of them. She just seemed to know that I wouldn't want to play with her the way she liked to play. It wasn't that she didn't like playing with me. It was that I was too mature to enjoy playing with her the way she liked to play. Her innate intelligence showed more everyday.

Part of me wished that I could just wind back my mind to my less mature state, and actually enjoy playing with her, but I couldn't. That just wasn't the way things worked. I stood up, and stretched slowly. We wouldn't have to wait much longer until dark.

"You guys feel like fish tonight?" I definitely did.

"Don't tell me you're going to get them yourself," Savannah complained, "Take Ethan with you. He's better at gutting the fish then you are."

"He's also better at spotting the good tasting ones," I agreed.

I just wanted Ethan to agree before taking him with me. Ethan smiled since he had decided not to turn down any opportunity to go out flying with me. I didn't have to wait for very long before Ethan followed me out into the cold night air. He climbed up on my back willingly, and tried to adjust the way he was sitting so that I could fly more freely. I guess I should look into getting some sort of saddle made.

My wings extended slowly as I leaned over the drop. I jumped off the ledge willingly. My fear of heights jumped up in my throat for a split second before my wings caught me. The surge of strength, and fearlessness that my wings gave me was something I looked forward to. I couldn't believe I'd stupidly been putting off flying because of such a shallow fear.
