Chapter 415: 28.2

I jumped into the air. Opening a portal ahead of us as I reappeared over the frontline. My black scales made me invisible in the night sky. I circled down silently. Flaring my wings, and buffering all the people within my landing pad with air.

My eyes glowed brightly in the air above them, and they all seemed to agree to aim their weapons at me at once. Lightning flared within my scales. Instantly lighting each of my individual scales with the gold light of lightning. My scales caused the light to look more silver then gold. Some of them relaxed, and moved aside as soon as they saw it was me.

Others tensed up, and looked as if they were going to shoot until they were ordered to stand down. I hovered in place the whole time I was waiting for them to clear out. I set down as soon as I had enough room to. My wings twitched as I pulled them in close. My muscles twitched as I relaxed.

Laying down on the gravel calmly. As if this whole standoff didn't happen in the first place. I would need to head north sooner or later.

{I got it,} Savannah jumped off my back.

Landing lightly on the ground. She'd taken some time to adjust to her strength. The change in her didn't go unnoticed. Luckily the light glow of her eyes was easily masked by the other lights. Jax was underground somewhere.

He'd built three underground shelters while we'd been gone. They were simple. Meant to allow fire to pass through to the other side of the passage without getting into the actual shelter area. If you were in the path that led to the opening of the underground shelter then you'd get burned up. I watched Savannah leave before snapping my eyes Jax's direction.

{Force him to get some sleep,} I glanced to Ethan, {He's been working too hard while we've been gone.}

Ethan nodded before jumping down. His landing wasn't as light, but it didn't hurt him in any way. He walked off in Jax's direction. I settled slowly. It was completely quiet here now.

Nothing more needed to be done. No one here had heard about the destruction back at the guild yet. Agitation would run high when that happened. I held the cloth wrapped tablet in my claws. Careful not to mess with the cloth.

This thing was a time bomb. Waiting to go off whenever someone discovered I had it. I wrapped the cloth up in a backpack.

{Could you let Calen know that this'll be in his office when he gets there?} I asked Savannah since she still had the phone.

{Yeah,} she replied, {I can do that.}

I would have to wait a while before I had enough mana to open even a small portal back to Calen's office. I could still draw from the dragon cores if I really wanted to but thought it would be better if I saved the mana for a life or death situation. I laid my head down slowly, and pretended to sleep. I could sit here pretending to sleep for a few hours easily. Word wouldn't spread about the attack on the guild until morning.

Eric would be pissed that he hadn't been able to capture the woman responsible for the attack. I almost chuckled at that. He wasn't going to find her anywhere on the planet because she didn't really exist. The guys that had failed to stop her from destroying the building would both be in major trouble. I was glad that Eric didn't have any blood samples from me.

He might try to clone, and recreate dragons if he did. I couldn't have him doing that. I didn't want him to get a single drop of my blood. I wasn't going to have him making mutated clones of dragons. That meant I'd have to avoid getting wounded.

It wasn't as if I wasn't already trying to avoid injury. That was the goal. Avoiding getting wounded means avoiding getting killed. I'm overthinking this. My eyes snapped open when I sensed someone approaching me.

"What do you want?" I rumbled as my head came off the ground.

That little tech guy had made the mistake of approaching me from the side I didn't have my head on. My dislike of that was clearly represented in my tone. The guy just fell on his ass trying not to hyperventilate. I shifted my weight so I could bring my head over to his side comfortably.

"Would you stop panicking?" I snorted, "If I wanted to eat you, you wouldn't have seen it coming."

He swallowed again nervously as the sun framed my outline. My eyes narrowed at him. He was about twenty feet from where I was laying right now. I didn't know I had a personal bubble until now, but he was definitely in it. I guess I just didn't mind it as much when I was in human form.

I was more alert when I was in human form then the rest of the time. Maybe it's because my senses are suppressed, and I'm weaker. I flicked my tail stiffly. I wanted a response. Not this odd stand off.

"Are you going to tell me what you came here for or not?" I exhaled slowly with sparks of lightning on my breath.

"My drones are specialized in tracking," he started nervously, "And you lost them twice."

"Spatial magic," I narrowed my eyes further, "It's not difficult to lose pursuers when you can teleport."

"Yeah," he stumbled through the word, "I thought that maybe you'd allow me to study the mana fluctuations of your spatial portals so I build drones that'll be able to track them."

"You built those drones, and he still sent you out here?" I felt my pinched nerves relax a little.

"I'm a class D technopath," he shrugged, "This new ranking system didn't do me much good when I finished my deployment with the military. I had a decent amount of points before they threw it out to change the ranks."
