Chapter 546: 23

I would probably regret the next few moments for the rest of the week as I lashed out toward him with dark flames. The flames struck Wyatt's back as he defended against the lord's sword strikes. The wrath that followed felt as real as if I'd attacked him for real. I had attacked him for real, but it was on his orders. The mana that came down on me made me feel as if I'd just been hit.

I collapsed to the floor as drool flowed freely from the corner of my mouth. My mind felt as if it were mush. Black lightning arched off of his body. Raining destruction on all that surrounded him. I felt his double pick me up, and leap away from the black lightning as it struck all that surrounded him.

The lightning wouldn't affect the double. It was composed from Wyatt's mana so it wouldn't be affected. Ability users couldn't sense mana like magic users could so it made sense that the double was mostly unaffected. Black lightning lashed out. Killing all the nearby elven nobles.

Angry black marks were spreading throughout the hall as Wyatt's black lightning damaged it all. The lord was getting more, and more agitated as time went on. His beautiful home was being destroyed. The lord's magic surged. Overpowering the spell that was keeping him here.

They blinked out of the banquet hall a moment later. Half the nobles in the hall had been killed by Wyatt's stray attacks. Many of those that remained here either poisoned or seriously injured. We were still surrounded by Wyatt's mana so I was sure that he hadn't died. The mental connection he'd placed on me made it so I could tell he was about a mile away.

The lord had drug him outside the walls of the city. Somewhere he could fight without worrying about destroying his home. Wyatt hadn't shown the lord all of his tricks, but the lord hadn't shown him all of his either. The two men were determined to keep their secrets, and now they would be out of the line of sight of all those they wanted to keep secrets from. I was glad that I wasn't part of this particular fight.

I had my own job to do.

-Wyatt-

I was overjoyed that the lord had managed to overpower my spell. His dominance over space was stronger then my own. I didn't know where we were, but I did know we hadn't gone far. He'd wasted a good amount of mana freeing himself from my spell. Now that he wasn't under the effects of eye of the storm he would have his full power.

My advantage had been taken away. I was still powering the massive spell, and I wasn't sealing his elements anymore. I was now at a significant disadvantage. It was a smart move on his part. I couldn't play around anymore.

There were a few tricks I hadn't yet pulled out yet.

"I could use that one," I mumbled aloud to myself as I summoned gauntlets from my spatial storage.

They were made from Aurora's scales. All dragon scale weapons responded positively to me. The two poison crystals woven into them were far more potent than any I'd allowed Bryce to forge with before. The interaction between the two materials had caused the white scaled gauntlets to have small purple lines throughout. They would heal me each time I struck my opponent, but I wasn't planning on taking advantage of that part.

I wanted to take advantage of the other ability they had. That meant I had to avoid causing the lord physical harm. Putting me at an even bigger disadvantage. I smirked to myself as he came at me. He wouldn't know what hit him.

I abandoned my ice sword as I switched to a defensive stance. I preferred an offensive stance, but I'd had this defensive style of combat hammered into me quite thoroughly. I actually knew how to defend better then attack. I found that kind of ironic. The predator that preferred to attack was better at defense. I was glad that I decided to switch my stance though.

The speed the lord was using now far surpassed what he'd been using when we were in his house. I was having a hard time keeping up even with mana accelerating my movements. I was burning through my mana far faster then I wanted to. The lord finally unleashed his divine energy. Lacing through the spells he weaved.

He didn't use rune casting like me, but he did have some sort of structure to his spells. I observed it as carefully as I could without getting myself killed. I tried to avoid using any of my own divine energy mainly because I didn't have time to hide the evidence of my use of divine energy. It was better if I just didn't use it unless I was forced. I wouldn't need to take it that far.

The lord's blade came down on my gauntlets once again. The gauntlets continued to absorb small traces of the lord's mana as it worked to heal me. The divine energy that ran down the blade was putting chinks in the armor of the gauntlets. This lord would be able to overwhelm me if he was allowed to fight me at his full strength. I stepped on a spell that caused the ground to soften.

Sucking my foot into the soft mud. The next strike aimed to slash across my chest since most would try to stop themselves from falling when they lost their footing. I did not. My arms were crossed over my chest when his blade came down. The force of the strike wasn't a problem but there was something different about this strike.

It cut through the gauntlets with divine energy. It forced me to block with divine energy. This simple act surprised the city lord. Humans of today could not use divine energy. This gave away a bit of my true nature.
