Chapter 446: 21

If I circulated too much mana through them I could trigger the effects of resonance. As much of a power boost as that was I wasn't willing to put my bonded through that unless it was strictly necessary. I could distinctly feel the presence of the alpha female as she approached. Circulating this mana would be easier if I didn't have a headache pressing down on my mind. I was keeping the vast majority of the mana that was being amplified when it went through Savannah, and Jax.

My body could contain the mana much better then theirs could. I wasn't interested in expanding their reserves right now. I needed them ready to fight. They wouldn't have time to recover if their reserves were expanded right now. My wings flared as I lost focus on maintaining a human form.

My body expanding slowly as I returned to my human form. I was irritated when my tail hit the tents, and ammo boxes behind me. They skidded along as my body continued to expand. I kept on focusing on circulating that mana. My reserve was filling much faster then it would naturally.

I looked up to Ethan on the tower. His eyesight was considerably better then the other humans around. Even without binoculars Ethan might spot them first. He shook his head almost imperceptibly. I was the only one that could see the slight gesture.

It relieved me. I was glad that he didn't see them yet. All the anti air cannons were loaded, and ready. We were just waiting for the battle to begin. I hated this lull before all hell broke loose.

I wanted to lash out. I wanted to kill something. The longer I waited for this battle to begin, the more I wanted to lash out. I closed my eyes, and focused on the flow of mana. Closing my eyes eased the tension on my mind from the expanded spatial awareness.

I could tell that they were getting closer. I had a clearer picture in my mind of all the people moving around me as well as the wyverns flying toward us. There were forty-three of them headed our way. Ten females including the alpha, and thirty-three males. The males led in a V followed by the females in a smaller V.

My mana crackled around me in the form of small sparks. I wrapped my tail tightly around my back feet. My hands still glued to Savannah, and Jax. I'd managed to shift my weight enough that I didn't crush them. My wings trembled as excitement, and fear made me want to drive into the fight as quickly as possible.

Now wasn't the time. I needed to focus on the mana circulation. Savannah was constantly giving me a steady stream of mana. Jax went up, and down, but at his peak he was able to give me four times as much mana as Savannah. Savannah had higher talent.

Jax had higher capacity. I was getting close to a quarter of my reserve when I opened my eyes, and looked up to see little winged dots at the edge of my range of vision. I glanced up at Ethan. He didn't see them yet. I still had time.

I ramped up the amount of mana I circulated through my bonded. Savannah, and Jax both broke out in a sweat now that I was approaching the thin line that lay just before resonating. I had to pull back a few times. Carefully. I knew that even a little more mana would push them over the edge, and they would start the transformation into dragon kin.

I tightened my tail around my feet. I'd start lashing it back, and forth if I didn't keep it in check. Closing my eyes so I could focus completely on circulating my mana through them. If only I could just draw in the naturally dense mana around me. I tilted my head slightly as I tried to focus solely on the flow of mana.

I lost track of all my other senses. Even my sense of spatial awareness fell away as I focused entirely on the flow of mana. The only thing I could feel was the beat of my heart, and the flow of mana. My mana started to pulse in rhythm with my heart. I could clearly sense the barrier between activating resonance, and just circulating, and amplifying mana.

I stayed just below that barrier. Treating it like the unbroken surface of perfectly clear reflective water. Not wanting to break the perfectly still surface. Not today anyway. I was yanked out of the vision by a burning feeling.

My reserve was overflowing. I didn't know any way of putting up a barrier besides my eye of the storm spell. I needed a more experienced spell caster because my barrier would only be able to stop the wyverns that got trapped within the range of the spell, and I didn't think it would work to stop the alpha female. Savannah, and Jax both looked more then a little worn out.

"Rest here," I flared my wings, and jumped into the sky.

It only took me a second to activate the summoning circle, and bring Gaia to me. She hovered in the air beside me. A slight smile turned up the corners of her lips. My wing beats were loud, and would be intimidating to anything or anyone smaller then me. I roared challenge at the tiny wyverns in the distance.

My loud roar startled everyone below me.

"I really hope you didn't summon me here to ruin my hearing," Gaia raised an eyebrow at me.

"Stop the alpha," I snarled, "Kill her if you can. I don't want any of them getting over that line." I glanced downward at the line of anti air cannons below, "Put up a barrier first."

"Another tall order," She sighed, "I'll do what I can."

If I'd just asked her to fight the alpha I'm sure she would have managed it just fine. It was the barrier that was going to hold her up, and drain most of her power. I hovered in the air as I watched Gaia fly along the front line with incredible speed. I was about to head into battle when Savannah flagged me down mentally. I dropped lower, and offered her my tail.
