Chapter 504: 20

He attempted to launch flames at Sekka only his flames simply stopped in the air in front of him. Dying out before they could get anywhere near Sekka.

"Do you know what Sekka means in elvish?" I asked.

Listening to the silence for a few moments before deciding to speak up again.

"Sekka translates to garbage," I moved my eyes back to Magnus, "His name is garbage. The elves named him garbage, and sent him here to spy on you in exchange for his mother's life. Not that you would understand being willing to suffer for your family."

Now Magnus's rage was directed at me again. I was more than capable of handling myself. His rage was really nothing. I was getting tired of dealing with his anger. I just wanted to rearrange his face a few times. I could file that impulse away, and save it for another time.

"Now the guards can go downstairs," I gestured toward the stairs, "And the rest of you should sit. We should start talking. I get the feeling that most of you don't want to be here."

The tired man sat down across from me. He seemed to be the authority figure in this group. He shot out another thread toward Letty, and it hit Letty right in the chest. Letty didn't flinch. Not even when the thread went tight.

The thread was pulled out of his chest, and yet he seemed unaffected. Maybe I was worried about the thread for no reason. Another thread attached to him, and was tugged tight. Letty remained unaffected. Yet when the thread was thrown at me it felt threatening enough that I blocked it.

What was he doing? Why was Letty fine when his attacks landed, and why did it feel dangerous when the same attack was thrown at me? I decided to ignore it for now as the talking began. I didn't do much speaking. Eliza was the one that outlined most of the points in our truce.

I looked at Letty briefly, and he had more thread attached to his head this time. He remained completely unaffected. I found this whole meeting irritating. The only reason I was managing to remain patient while sitting here listening to all this bullshit was because I was dissing half the people here to Ethan in my head. Bullshitting with him was keeping him calm, and we were having a good laugh about it all in our heads.

The discussion was civil for the most part. Mostly the humans refusing to allow us to live on land that they hadn't been on in over a decade.

"You can't live on our land," The guy next to the old looking guy argued, "This is our land. We can't just give it to you."

"We never said you would give it to us," I smirked as I looked at all the humans arguing amongst each other, "I want the land, and you can't use it. The smartest course of action for me would be to buy the land from you."

"With what?" Magnus shouted, "You have nothing that we want."

"Do you know what an artificial mana crystal is?" I gestured toward the people at the table.

Silence. I could feel a few mental smirks from my bonded. Mana gathered around my extended hand. Tension surrounded the table. My bonded were the only ones that weren't tense or nervous about what I was doing.

Aurora figured it out pretty quickly. The crystal was infused with fire elemental mana so it came out a brilliant hot ember red. The crystal fell into my hand when I was done. I rolled it down the table to the humans at the end.

"Pick it up, and cast a spell," I smirked.

No one moved. Then Snider jolted forward, and picked the crystal up.

"Snider!" The old guy shouted out.

Snider ignored him, and held up the red gem.

"I've never used a magic crystal before," Snider smiled widely, "This should be an interesting experience to add to my repertoire."

The crystal began to glow as Snider connected to it. A thick blast of flames soared skyward a second later. The flames went out a few seconds later, and the crystal darkened when it ran out of power. Snider dropped it on the table, and rubbed his hand on his jacket.

"That thing is hot," he laughed as he examined his hand.

"The crystal is much safer after it's been placed in a tool," I threw some light mana toward him with a flick of my wrist, "Just be glad its a weak crystal. A stronger one would produce a lot more heat."

The mana I emanated from my hand caused the crystal to jitter on the table a little since it was attracted to the mana it was missing. I released a bit more mana, and the crystal practically jumped into my hand. My hand snapped closed around it as the mana around my hand rushed into the crystal. The amount of mana it took to fill one of the crystals was trivial compared to how much mana it took to create the crystal so I really didn't mind just allowing the crystal to take what it needed. Dropping the fully recharged crystal back on the table with its bright hot ember glow restored.

"We can provide artificial mana crystals, and even some mana infused weapons as payment for land you can't even use," I crossed one leg over the other as I leaned on my closed fist, "We also have friendly connections with an intelligent race on another planet, and Sekka here has provided me with plenty of information required to infiltrate the elven world. We are in a position to offer you a great deal of assistance in this war, and the amount we can offer will only increase with time. So. The real question isn't can you trust us? The real question is can you afford to make us your enemy?"
