The moment Elena asked to watch a romcom, I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. Isabel and Lydia exchanged glances, clearly sharing some silent joke.

It wasn't that I disliked romcoms, but it was an odd choice given the kind of life-threatening situation we'd just escaped from.

Still, seeing Elena's hopeful smile tugged at something inside me. After everything she'd been through, if she wanted to watch a silly romantic comedy, who was I to argue?

"Fine, but you're picking," I said, trying not to roll my eyes too much.

Elena grinned and grabbed the remote, scrolling through the streaming service with the excitement of someone who hadn't nearly been drained of blood just hours before.

I watched her, my chest tightening with guilt as I caught a glimpse of the faint bite mark still visible on her neck. She caught my look and placed her hand gently over the mark.

"It's okay," she whispered, giving me a reassuring smile. "I'm fine, Carmen."
