Chapter 177: A Pretentious Bastard

Rolling backward to regain her footing, Helena quickly jumped back to put some distance between her and the howling Naib.

'Tch, that was close.' Helena thought as she tightened her grip around the handles of her enchanted greatsword. 'I have to pay more attention to my surroundings…'

After howling in pain for a short while, Naib wildly turned his head as he looked for Helena, the person responsible for the grievous leg wound he suffered.

Subsequently, upon spotting her a few meters away from him, another harrowing howl echoed inside Unclave City as Naib viciously lunged and slashed at Helena who once again managed to dodge his fearsome blow by jumping backward, leaving horrifying cracks on the ground as Naib's falchion struck nothing.

Without giving Helena any time to recover, Naib continued jumping at her, drowning her once again in a ruthless onslaught of hacks and slashes.

Although getting pushed back, Helena's eyes still contained the same chilling calmness she always had when fighting, tirelessly looking for openings to exploit.

Finally, after enduring for a few minutes, she managed to correctly predict the trajectory of one of Naib's attacks, allowing her to viciously counterattack with an upward slash after narrowly dodging Naib's horizontal slash by ducking.

*SPURT*

Scarlet blood spurted out of the horrifying left arm wound as another blood-curdling howl found its way out of Naib's mutated throat.

'That wasn't enough to cut the entire arm?!' Helena inwardly complained as she quickly got out of range before Naib could recover.

She was pretty confident in taking his entire left arm after such a brilliant counterattack but who would've thought that such a fine blow would only result in a deep wound?

Ridiculous.

Fortunately, Helena always had a positive outlook on battles.

Just a short while after, she was already back in a good mood, excited about the fact that she could now sneak in some counterattacks.

Earlier, she was helpless, so the current developments, albeit grim, were favorable in her optimistic eyes.

Now, if she could just continue doing this for a few more exchanges, then Naib will surely succumb to his injuries.

Helena's eyes resembled a hawk's as she waited for Naib to once again attack.

Sure enough, after a few seconds, the monstrous Naib once again resumed his mindless onslaught.

However, since Helena was already familiar with most of his attack patterns, she found it easier and easier to look for chances to counterattack.

Slowly but surely, she whittled Naib's vitality, his blood dripping out of his wounds in alarming volumes.

Just when Helena was getting confident, a shocking thing happened.

As they entered another familiar attacking sequence, Helena found another opening to exploit, then, after narrowly dodging Naib's vicious diagonal slash by leaning towards the right, Helena viciously counterattacked by attempting to stab Naib's throat.

Just when her attack was already in motion, a blood-curdling smile appeared on Naib's face.

"Oops…You fell for it." the monstrous Naib said as he quickly jerked his head sideways, narrowly avoiding Helena's stab.

'This bastard…' Helena inwardly cursed, her eyes staring straight at the incoming falchion. 'He's pretending?!'

"Grand Marshal!" the generals called out in worry as Naib's falchion quickly slashed through the air, aiming to decapitate Helena.

Then, just when the blades of the falchion were about to touch Helena's neck, she…disappeared.

Feeling his falchion hit nothing but air, Naib's eyes widened.

"What?! Where the hell did the b*tch go?!" The barely sane Naib exclaimed in frustration.

In the next few moments, his question was answered as a panting Helena reappeared a few meters away.

Fortunately, she had quick reflexes, allowing her to activate one of her skills, [Dash] to quickly get out of harm's way.

"Hahaha! I admit that you almost had me. However, I do apologize for laughing as it is truly too funny that you took all of those hits from me but still failed to catch me in the end! Hahahahahaha!"

Veins popped on the sides of Naib's head, as a furious expression appeared on his barely recognizable face.

Being insulted right after failing to reap the fruits of his labor was just too infuriating.

Just when he was about to lunge towards Helena again, his eyes widened.

Tears of blood streamed down Helena's cheeks forming intricate blood runes. The irises of her eyes turned pitch black as her body started emitting vapor–black vapor.

A monster recognizes a monster.

Her current appearance resembles that of a demon from ancient legends, making his monstrous mutated heart beat slightly faster in fear and trepidation.
