When Kang Jun had heard Rong Lihua's words through the phone, the man had left the office and driven straight home.
In the car, he worried about what had happened. But whatever it was, Kang Jun feared the worst. Rong Lihua had called from Lu AnLing's cellphone, after all, and Kang Jun had heard his wife's muffled voice in the background.
He did not know what she had said, but he had noticed that her usually sweet voice was a bit hoarse.
Had she been crying?
Kang Jun's heart squeezed at the thought.
Once he arrived, Kang Jun ran upstairs. There, he saw Rong Lihua with a medical kit. The woman walked into the room right across from his and Lu AnLing's bedroom, with an expression of worry on her face.
Seeing this, Kang Jun's heart froze. As he quickly approached the room, he felt more worried fill his heart until his eyes caught sight of the messy room.
This was shocking enough but when he saw Lu AnLing slouched in a corner, Kang Jun felt his world fall apart.
He ran towards Lu AnLing and bent down beside her.
Seeing the man, Rong Lihua handed him the medical kit and then she walked out of the room.
Without saying a thing, at first, Kang Jun began to treat Lu AnLing's wounds. Seeing the crimson blood from her palm, Kang Jun felt his eyes sting. He then looked to see if she had any more wounds but other than her palms and her raised nails, she didn't, but for the first time, Kang Jun noticed scars on her wrists...
'She was on suicide watch...' his grandfathers voice rang through his head as Kang Jun's heart began to race.
Had something triggered her suicidal urges?
Kang Jun felt fear, like he had never felt ever before.
After Kang Jun had treated Lu AnLing's wounds, he touched her tear stained cheeks and looked her deep in the eyes.
Kang Jun's worries were apparent. He did not need to speak but he felt like Lu AnLing needed to hear his voice so Kang Jun said,
"What happened?"
Hearing his words, it was like Kang Jun had broken an invisible barrier between Lu AnLing and the world around her. In a second, Lu AnLing could completely, see, smell and hear the man in front of her.
She was so glad to see him that all of her emotions suddenly hit her, all at once, and Lu AnLing began to cry.
"Jun... what do I do..." Lu AnLing said as tears slowly dropped from her eyes.
Wiping them away, Kang Jun looked at her sadly and said, "About what?"
"My father..." These words were quite ambiguous so Kang Jun did not know what to say, but then Lu AnLing spoke once more. "My father is alive... he doesn't remember me... and he had a stupid fake daughter..."
"How?" Kang Jun asked as he brought Lu AnLing into a hug.
Lu AnLing: "I told you I met my aunt... she's Bingyi's mother... I didn't know but my father, his name is Tang Yian..."
Lu AnLing crumbled into Kang Jun's arms.
Ever since she was a child her father had been important to her and as she had grown up he had remained important even when she had thought he had passed.
The two had had a pretty good-bad relationship, depending on the day but still... Lu AnLing loved him.
But now, that love that she had for him was being tested. Even if she knew he couldn't remember her, Lu AnLing felt a tinge of hate for her father...
As he held Lu AnLing close to his heart and coaxed her, Kang Jun said, "Anything you need me to do, I'll do it..."
Hearing this, Lu AnLing laughed dryly. "I want to handle this myself... but stay with me, please. Don't die, or fake die or I don't know, just... don't leave me all alone."
After saying these words, Lu AnLing began to bawl. She couldn't help it. She felt hurt, confused and completely powerless.
She couldn't believe that her father had forgotten her and gotten a replacement. And remembering her father's smile and he held Tang Yiling close to him, made Lu AnLing's heart hurt even more.
How could he allow himself to think someone else was his daughter? How could he look so much happier with Tang Yiling than he had ever been with her?
Lu AnLing was crushed.
When her father was with her, he seldom smiled. Every time he looked at her, a glint of sadness, or maybe it was hatred, would flash through his eyes.
Lu AnLing had always thought that it was because she did not look like him.
When Lu AnLing moved into the Lu family she noticed that she resembled them... Her face shape, her fox-like eyes and her pouty lips... it all came from the Lu's. Only her wavy hair had not...
Maybe her father had thought that she was not his daughter.
Thinking about this, Lu AnLing began to feel fear.
What if her father never came to recognize her and only thought of Tang Yiling as his daughter? Wasn't there nothing more painful than that?
Suddenly, Lu AnLing heard Kang Jun's heart beat loud in her ear.
"I'll always be with you... and if anything ever happens to me, I'll never forget you. You're the only one for me, and so, I'll fight to always stay by your side." Kang Jun's words came from his heart and Lu AnLing knew this well.
She hugged him hard as the man looked down at her with a mix of love and sadness.
Looking down at Lu AnLing who sank into his embrace, Kang Jun's mind filled with anger and malice. He did not care that Madame Tang was Lu AnLing's aunt or that Tang Yian was her father. They had both hurt his wife in their own ways and Kang Jun wouldn't stand for it.

Meanwhile, at the Tang household, Madame Tang stumbled into the house.
As soon as Madame Tang had walked through the doors she had heard Tang Yiling's joyous laugh and frozen momentarily.
Walking into the living room, Madame Tang saw a sight she seldom ever saw.
Tang Yiling, Tang Bingyi, and Tang Luoyi, along with Tang Yian and Elder Tang had gathered and they all seemed like they were in a good mood.
"What happened?" Madame Tang asked curiously.
Hearing her voice, Elder Tang smiled and said, "Huian, your brother has finally decided to get back to work!"
Madame Tang did not know what to feel so she faked a smile and said, "That's great! What will he be doing? Teaching?"
Elder Tang frowned. "Of course not, he'll be helping out with menial tasks, like judging competitions and scouting new talent. Yian had always had an ear for music, this will be a perfect job for him!"
Madame Tang felt awkward but she nodded nonetheless and then she excused herself.
Walking up the stairs, Madame Tang felt a strange feeling creep up on her which forced her to stop.
From the stairs, she then looked at this happy scene. Madame Tang could not help but think about how it would soon be destroyed but instead of her mind blaming Lu AnLing, the only person Madame Tang blamed was herself.
Why had she been so stupid as to think that Lu AnLing would be better off without her father? Why had she thought that Lu AnLing had been happy in the Lu family when, by the girl's own words, she clearly was not?
Feeling a prickling feeling in her chest, Madame Tang did something she hadn't done since Tang Yian was in a coma.
Madame Tang picked up her phone and gave Lu Xiaoling a call.
I'm getting better and better as the days go by but I'm still a bit tired. It's a bit hard to sleep when I'm sick because I feel hot and it's hard to breathe. But by Monday, I should be back with the usual 2 chapters per day.
Happy Valentines Day to all who celebrate. Even if you don't have someone to celebrate with, who cares! Do something nice for yourself or someone you care about, be it a parent, a child, a teacher, etc. :)
