Chapter 12: chapter 12- Quality time
"What are you doing? You're going to break your leg if you kick someone like that!" Ruth instructed a troublesome student, who looked about 17. 3 years have passed since David and Alex began to slowly introduce David's turret and other enchanted equipment and devices. At the start, it caused an uproar, and the public demanded to know how Alex got his hands on these clearly special things, but Alex changed their mind really quickly. Though it was in a somewhat weird way.
*3 years ago*
Shouts were coming at a public gathering after Alex introduced the very suspicious and clearly quirk-related turrets David made. Alex came out on top of a rooftop of a nearby house, and the crowd quieted down. "Hello, everyone. I hope you all are doing well. You might've noticed the new turrets stationed on some of the building, and how we got them. This meeting is meant to answer such questions. Now the most common question I heard was how I got the turrets, and are they trustworthy.
I got the turrets from a 3rd party that requested to stay anonymous as helping us is pretty dangerous for any quirk user's reputation, and although I can't tell you the 3rd party's name, I knew them personally and they are very trustworthy" Alex explained.
"But how can you know that he isn't scheming against us? He could be using us for some awful plan or experiment for all you know. You said you 'knew' him, as in past tense, how do you know he hasn't changed?" A concerned voice questioned.
"Listen, do you not want the advancement his tools can bring us? I vouch for him, he won't harm us, and if we refuse his offer it would be an astronomical waste. These turrets alone can take out small gangs with minimal effort, just imagine what he'll bring us in the future," Alex said. "Wait, he can make other things besides those turrets?" Asked someone in a surprised voice. "Indeed had does," Alex responded.
"Besides, I already talked with the council, and it was approved. But if it makes you feel better, you can get involved. Up until now, only Ethan and David sent design ideas since we wanted it to be a secret, but now, everyone can submit them. I'll make an idea box, and we'll take and pass on the good ideas in the box." Alex announced.
After that, there was caution with every new product for a while, but after some time people got used to it. And thanks to the new products now being the most valuable thing by far in the settlement, the supply department's importance skyrocketed, much to Alex's' delight.

"End me, please" David begged as he buried his head in the mountain of paper he had to read and implement. Each day, he would work his quirk until it was pushed to the very limit, and only then did David rest. That is if by "rest" you mean train under a scary mother that wants to use every second to push him to his physical limit, and then spend some time with Ethan or Sarah.
During those 3 years, Sarah eventually figured out the big secret after not being able to hold herself back and interrogating Alex for hours until he finally broke. The man could lie to an entire town for years with a straight face, yet he broke like a twig in front of his daughter. It really made David question what's she like behind closed doors. She didn't show much of a reaction to her father's surprise, but that was since she was already aware of a secret project going on from her talk with David. However, after discovering that David had a quirk, she was hurt. Although she didn't know what the secret project was, she didn't imagine it all wrapped around David. She excepted the fact that David needed some secrets, but the fact that he hid one this huge still hurt. She may have promised to let the matter go, but that didn't mean she wasn't deeply insulted by her exclusion from the project that was centered around her best friend.
After a little, secluded, "talk" with Sarah to ensure such a situation never happens again, David came back while swaying in the wind like a sheet of paper. He refused to work for days, as he just stared emptily at the wall until his parents' attempts to reach him worked. While Sarah was somewhat strong physically thanks to Ruth's classes, her true strength appeared when she spoke. And it was truly frightening.
"Oh, how I remember your words. What was it, "I won't overwork myself"? You look kind of overworked now, so why don't you take a small break" Alex laughed at David as he helped the boy filter out ideas.
"Don't worry David, your wish has been answered," Sarah giggled as she walked towards the traumatized kid. After their fight was over, she took the role of being responsible for his social life. Making sure he won't just stay indoors for years. "Yes! I'm done with this, and I don't want to see paper until the end of the day!" David declared as he jumped with renewed vigor. "I promise you won't see any until tomorrow, but I can't promise that there won't be an extra stack when you come back," Alex said with a devilish grin.
"You wouldn't!" David paled. "Don't worry, if he does something like that, just tell me and I'll solve the problem. I can't have you wasting away on this pile of papers for eternity, now can I?" Sarah asked with a smile that sent shivers down the boys' spine.
"Fine, fine, I'll finish up sorting the important ideas here, so go and enjoy your time until Ruth finds you." Alex waved his hand in fake anger as he sent the kids off.

I finally finished a really big work assignment, and I'm almost done with another big one. Although now I have to start my app for my computer science class for the year. Overall, It's been good. I hope you enjoyed the chapter.
