Chapter 144: Chapter 144: X-Men Universe

Nexus of All Realities

Jack's body was being pulled in a specific direction at high speed by an invisible force, surrounded by a faint blue energy shield.

The shield was put under a lot of pressure, and if Jack hadn't built up enough energy, it would have been broken a long time ago.

This also showed from the side that this place was very dangerous.

Jack was somewhat grateful that he didn't bring Wanda along. Although this small trouble was nothing to him, it was still dangerous.

Most importantly, after arriving here, Jack always felt like a pair of eyes were watching him.

This feeling of being observed made him uncomfortable, but he had no way to do anything about it.

Fortunately, this situation didn't last too long. After flying for nearly an hour, a spatial rift appeared in front of Jack.

Before he could react, a tremendous suction force came from behind the rift and directly pulled him in.

Everything went dark and then bright, like turning a light switch on and off. Shortly after, he found himself on a rooftop, with a continuous noise entering his ears.

He stood at the edge of a seven or eight-story rooftop, with half of his feet hanging in the air, looking as if he was about to jump off.

Looking down, there was a main road below, even though it was late at night, it was still filled with people.

The noise was coming from the bar on the other side of him.

Jack didn't know where he was. He was about to investigate when a man and a woman walked out of the bar below, causing him to stop.

Looking at the man below with lush hair, still able to walk, jump, and run, Jack breathed a sigh of relief.

At least he didn't come to the wrong place.

However... it seemed like the timing wasn't right.

But that couldn't be helped. It was already difficult for him to arrive in this universe, and he couldn't control the exact timing of his arrival.

At least not for now.

Meanwhile, down below, the man and the woman seemed to be arguing.

"... I just don't understand you. Using your abilities in public, aren't you afraid of being discovered?"

In a hidden spot, Charles glanced at Raven beside him and criticized her.

Earlier, she had changed the color of her eyes in front of ordinary people.

Although it wasn't a big deal, it could have caused a lot of trouble if someone had seen her.

After all, the two of them might be the only ones with superpowers. At least in all these years, he hadn't found a third person.

"You were the one who said 'embrace your mutation' and used your powers first."

Raven, on the other hand, didn't seem to care and was even a little bit rude. "I was just following what you said!"

"Listen, Raven."

Charles, with a headache, looked at his supposed sister. Being able to read minds, he knew Raven's thoughts well. Every time he flirted with someone, she would come and disrupt it.

It wasn't the first time, and he needed to make Raven understand the dangers of casually exposing their abilities.

"We are special, but we are also dangerous, not just to others but to ourselves as well."

Charles tried to speak softly, fearing that raising his voice might trigger Raven's temper.

"So you must understand, we cannot casually expose our abilities. Absolutely, no one can know how special we are! Understand?"

"I understand! I understand! You've said this hundreds of times."

Raven's expression showed some refusal. She didn't like hiding herself, but she had to listen to Charles's words.

"It's best if you understand."

Charles sighed. Even without reading minds, he could tell that Raven was just appeasing him. But there was nothing he could do.

That's just how she was, and a few words wouldn't convince her.

"To be honest, I don't think you need to hide so intentionally."

The sudden voice startled Charles and Raven. They looked around, with Charles placing his hand on his temple to activate his abilities and Raven swiftly pulling out a small handgun from her bag.

"Ahem, I apologize for startling you."

Jack's face wore a slightly awkward smile as he waved his hand and appeared from a dark corner nearby.

Raven remained silent, pointing her gun directly at him.

Charles, seeing the situation, quickly activated his abilities, planning to cause Jack unconscious and erase his memory.

Jack must have heard their secret, and while they couldn't kill him, erasing his memory was the best option.

However, when Charles attempted to enter Jack's mind, he was shocked to find that he couldn't sense anything at all.

It was as if there was no one in front of them.

Charles had a shocked expression, leaving Raven confused.

She instructed, "Why aren't you doing anything?"

Charles didn't know how to respond. He had a vague suspicion in his mind, but he couldn't confirm it.

"He can't do it."

Jack gestured with his hand, signaling, "Please relax. I mean no harm. In fact, I'm here to help you."

This move was developed by Jack after his encounter with Supergiant. Although mind readers couldn't penetrate his inner thoughts, they could still harm him.

To prevent similar situations from happening again, he mastered this technique, which simply created a spatial barrier, a small and simple trick around him.

"Help us?"

Raven became even more confused. Just as she was about to ask further, what happened in front of their eyes nearly made both her and Charles gasp in surprise.

Jack's body slowly levitated, floating in mid-air.

With arms crossed, Jack looked at the stunned duo with a smirk on his face.

"The truth is, we are of the same kind!"

...

Half an hour later, in the Xavier Mansion's living room.

"Well, this coffee is really good. Thank you, Miss Darkholm. Your skills are amazing," Ryan calmly placed down his half-filled cup of coffee.

Raven listened with great satisfaction. She wasn't as intelligent as Charles, nor did she earn such high degrees, but she was confident that she could beat Charles when it came to making coffee.

Raven gave Charles a playful look, but he didn't care about her at all right now.

He had only one thing on his mind—

'Who was he?'

"Um," Jack let out a sigh and glanced at Charles, who had a look of question on his face.

Jack raised his hand to signal, "If you have any questions, go ahead and ask. Don't hold it in."

Charles took a deep breath, organized his thoughts, and asked directly, "Who are you?"

"Jack Wayne," Jack replied with an open and honest expression.

Charles spoke up again, "So, what is your ability? Are you like us? What is your purpose in seeking us out?"

"Well," Jack scratched his cheek, showing a thoughtful expression, "It's not wrong to say that I'm like you. As for my abilities... which one are you referring to?"

"What do you mean, 'which one'?"

"In simple terms, I have many abilities!"
