Charles and Raven had completely different reactions to encountering someone like them.
Raven was excited. She had always wanted to find more people who were as special as them, but over the years, there had been no progress.
She even thought they might be the only two special people in the world. So when she suddenly discovered that she wasn't alone and that there were others like them, she was overjoyed.
Even ignoring Charles' persuasion in her mind, she insisted on inviting Jack to their home and warmly made coffee for him.
Charles, on the other hand, was different. Although he was also happy to find someone like them, he kept his vigilance. It made him even more uneasy, especially since he couldn't read Jack's mind.
After years of searching without any success, having someone come knocking at their door would raise suspicions for anyone.
Only Raven wasn't so careful because she was a young girl who didn't know much.
Since his powers didn't work, Charles thought to gather enough information through conversation to learn why Jack wanted to find them.
However, he was surprised to discover that Jack had more than one ability.
This made Charles curious.
"You said you have many abilities?" he asked, looking at Jack with suspicion and doubt. "Like what?"
"For example, I can teleport," Jack replied.
As soon as Jack finished speaking, he disappeared from his original spot and reappeared behind Charles, startling him and causing him to jump.
But then, just as quickly, Jack returned to his original spot.
"Wow!" Raven was shocked and didn't know what to say.
Charles was speechless as well. The previous ability to fly and now the teleportation had already proven Jack's words.
However, Jack's next words surprised him once again.
"Besides that, I can also predict the future."
Jack shamelessly began playing the role of a fortune teller. Although this method was outdated and overused, it was still effective, despite being sharp and straightforward.
"Predict the future?!"
As expected, when Jack revealed his ability to foresee the future, both Charles and Raven looked at him with shock.
Predicting the future? That was the future, and there was actually someone who could do it?
After a brief silence in the living room, Raven's voice broke the awkward atmosphere.
"Um... so, in the future... who will be my husband?" She asked with eyes that showed a mix of excitement and nervousness and a blush that wouldn't go away.
When hearing this question, Charles's body tensed, and he glanced at Raven helplessly. He also looked at Jack with deep concern.
He didn't know the future, but he had always considered Raven a sister. Even without reading her mind, Charles could sense her feelings.
He was afraid that the result revealed by Jack wouldn't be what she wanted.
"Uh... about that," Jack's smile froze, and he glanced at Raven, unable to bear her intense gaze.
He slightly turned his head away, not daring to look at her, and said,
"...because the ability to predict the future is not under my control, and I can only predict things that have a huge impact. Like marriage partners... I'm sorry, I haven't really paid attention to that."
Jack's answer clearly didn't satisfy Raven, but she understood. Though disappointed, she didn't pursue the matter further.
Charles, on the other hand, breathed a sigh of relief and looked gratefully at Jack, only to meet his meaningful gaze, sending a shiver down his spine.
His intuition told him that Jack wasn't unaware; he simply chose not to reveal it.
In that case, there was an eighty percent chance that the future wouldn't match Raven's desires.
While Charles felt relieved, he couldn't help but worry. He feared that Raven might not be able to accept it when the time came.
To prevent Raven from asking further questions, Charles quickly changed the subject, saying, "Mr. Wayne, you mentioned earlier that you could only see things with a huge impact... like what? What have you seen?"
"Oh, about that," Jack put on a facade of sorrow and sighed. "The future... it's not very good, especially for mutants like us."
When hearing this, both Charles and Raven's faces turned pale, and they exchanged a glance.
Charles continued to ask, "Something... has happened?"
"Disaster," Jack replied.
Jack's eyes turned empty, a trace of sorrow appearing on his face as he spoke in a low and resentful tone, "In the future, people will discover the existence of mutants. Don't doubt it, just like you mentioned in your theory, the essence of humanity is achieved through mutation. The nuclear age has accelerated this process, and soon you will find more companions!"
"But at the same time, ordinary people will also discover mutants. Just think about it, what will the mainstream population, ordinary humans, do when faced with mutants who are seriously different and highly dangerous?"
Both Charles and Raven could understand this, which was why Charles strictly prevented Raven from using her powers.
However, they thought it would at most be humans rejecting mutants, but as Jack continued to speak, more and more of the future was revealed in front of them.
The expressions on Charles and Raven's faces became increasingly gloomy, especially the Raven. Hatred began to flash in her eyes, directed at humans.
Also, when Jack mentioned Bolivar Trask, the future researcher of Sentinel robots who used mutants for experimentation, Raven couldn't restrain herself.
She stood up, clearly ready to drag him out and kill him.
"Raven, calm down!"
However, before she could take any further action, Charles quickly intervened, using his powers to knock out Raven.
"You shouldn't be saying these things."
Charles looked at Jack with a hint of dissatisfaction as he helped Raven lie on the couch. He seemed to be blaming him for making Raven feel those emotions by talking about these things.
"Do you believe what I said?"
Jack sat cross-legged, looking at Charles with a half-smile.
He could sense Charles's vigilance towards him, and sharing this information was just to provide him with a basis for his judgment.
But it seemed that Charles had already decided, considering everything he said to be true.
"The future you spoke of..."
Charles took a deep breath and asked solemnly, "Is it true?"
"In the future, are mutants really captured by humans for experimentation?"
Jack had only mentioned the events up until 1973 and gave a short situation of the Sentinel robot.
"Let me tell you, Charles."
Jack sighed with great seriousness, saying, "The future is much more devastating than you can imagine, not just for mutants, but for humans as well!"
Charles remained silent.
