Chapter 4: Who or What am I?
"Well, Lana, this may sound to some degree weird, but do you know what these chains did to me?", Arion asked the girl in a quiet voice. "You did just mention that you can't remember anything, does that mean you also don't remember who you are and where you come from?", replied Lana. "Exactly, I don't remember anything, not how I got here, where I am from, who my family is or anything. I just remember the name Arion, which I suspect is mine.", Arion tried to convince her. He does his best not to mention his meeting with the glowing entity. "As you don't remember anything, let me tell you a little story", Lana calmly voices. Arion a bit confused why Lana would tell him a story, attempted to say something, but she has already started.
"In this world there are humans, like me, but there are also those that are not human. These human like creatures can sometimes not be distinguished from a real human. Some people fear them, others are envious about them. On top of that there are the so called mixed breed. These mixed beings from human and non human parents are most of the time just like any other human. They don't inherit much genes from the non-human parent. But in the rare occasions that the children inherit from the non-human part, they are most likely even more powerful than their parent. Which is why, if the non-human knows about this, he most likely kills the infant at birth. Now you may ask, but what kind of non-humans exist out there? Well the answer to that is simple, close to None or even None. The main reason for this is that around 20 years ago there was a giant non-human hunt. This hunt had the purpose to eradicate all the non-human beings from this world. When the hunt was over, most of them had vanished, and the few that may have survived, have never been seen. The only things that pop up from time to time are mixed breeds. But again you may wonder, how many were there before the hunt, and that is a very good question that maybe no one can actually answer. All the records containing history about them have been burned or destroyed in another manner. But the few that we know about are, first the demons, which can clearly been identified by having horns on their heads. Second are the dragons, which have somewhere on their body a spot that is covered in dragon shaped scales. These children however, are extremely rare nowadays, and till now still often killed on sight. On the rare occasion though, the right person sees them and enchanted chains are available at that moment. The child will be caught and kept as a slave to be sold to the highest bidder. All the children till now that have been sold were never seen again."
"That's something my father used to tell me when i was little.", Lana explains. "So do you get a bit of an idea now?". Arion a bit shocked answers: "I do think I understand, but that would mean that I am such a mixed breed of a human and a demon considering my horn. A lot has been clarified for me now, but there is still a small little thing that I am curious about, do you know what that bright light was that appeared in front of your cage at that time?", Arion asks intrigued. "The only thing I can assume is, that it has something to do with your demon powers. I mean even the spells enchanted on the chains activated immediately.", replied the girl instantly. "Now that you were actually able to do something like that without even knowing how to do it, is in itself already amazing, but this shows also again why you are chained down and we aren't.". "Isn't it because everyone is afraid of me?", Arion surprisingly voiced. Lana let out a little laugh while replying: "No you idiot, just think about it, you could instantly make such a bright light appear out of nowhere, and the chains immediately stopped you from doing more, it is obviously so that you can't escape". Arion is really surprised by what Lana says, because he was convinced that everyone would be afraid of him. Just thinking about it, the hunt and his powers, he thinks it would be obvious that everyone is frightened of his powers. But it looks like this world might have a slight different way of thinking. They are not afraid of someone or something just because it has power. "Lana, do you know who enchanted these chains?", Arion suddenly asks. "Why are you asking that?", Lana replied taking a bit by surprise by the specific question. "If I am not mistaken the chains are enchanted with the help of demonic magic, or at least that is what my father said."
"So basically I am a half demon, so I obviously have demonic powers. These chains are enchanted with the help of demonic powers, So if I understand these powers better, I might be able to break the chains." Arion thinks.
