Chapter 5: Before the Auction
After Lana explained Arion a bit about this world and the history of the dispute of humans and non-humans. Arion is extremely interested in his own body, mainly because it is part demon. What does this exactly mean, from Lana's explanation, he would be a lot more powerful than his predecessor. Even though he knows this, it isn't really helping as he has not the slightest idea who is father would be, or how powerful he is. "This isn't really helping me, this basically tells me that I have a power. It doesn't tell me what kind of power or how much. Maybe I can trick the guard in telling me something, as these mixed-breeds are apparently sold more often when found.", Arion wonders. Without really devising a plan Arion calls out to the guard. The man instantly moves closely, but already has an annoyed look on his face. "What ya want this time?", he asks. "Well, as you probably already know, I don't remember who or what I am. I do know that I am not really like you, as I have a horn on my head, which indicates that I am probably a half demon. Do you think you could tell me a little bit about that?", Arion voices and attempts to execute his plan. "And why tha hell would I do that?", the man answers instantly. "This can benefit us both, at least I think so. On one hand I will be able to understand myself better and maybe my powers. On the other hand, if I know how to control them, would that not increase my value as your ware?", Arion suggests. The look on the guards face changes, but without saying a single word he leaves the room instantly.
Lana takes the chance and asks: "What are you doing?". "Attempting to get some useful information", Arion replies. "Do you actually know what these people do to slaves that don't behave?", "I can guess, but I don't think they will do that, if they can increase their income. Slave Traders are usually driven by their desire for money.", Arion explains. Their small exchange of words is interrupted when the guard abruptly returns. As the man moves closer to Arion's enclosure, he throws in an old looking paper roll. "Be happy. Tha boss thinks ya argument is valid, this is all tha information we have.", he says and returns his attention to patrolling. Arion is now turning his attention to the scroll that the guard brought in. It seems like a rather old paper scroll, dusty and dirty. Arion carefully opens the scroll as to not damage it, revealing something that looks similar to a magic circle and a few signs that he is unable to read. The only thing that he is able to make out is a small not on the top left, that must have been written later on. The note simply says: "Blood". "This scroll is full of mysteries, I don't understand the slightest thing on it. The note that says blood is intriguing, it makes me remember the movies where people would cut their finger and let a drip of blood fall on the paper. Ahh, what's the worst that could happen when I try.", Arion thinks. After letting his eyes wander a bit around, he can perceive a sharper looking edge on his cage.
Without thinking twice, he forcefully grabs the edge, resulting in a cut in the palm of his hand. Lana surprised by his actions after receiving the scroll continues to observe him intensively. Arion turns his head back to the scroll and presses his bloody palm on the magic circle. Lana and Arion paying close attention to the scroll as to await for something to happen. But Arion's actions are followed by nothing. Arion a bit disappointed by the fact that nothing happens, slowly removes his hand from the scroll. Arion expects to have ruined the scroll and that he will be punished for it pretty harshly. But to his surprise, there is not a single stain on the scroll and on top of that, the wound on his hand has disappeared. This gets Arion's hope back up that something might still happen.
During this time, another guard enters the room and walks up to the patrolling man. "On tomorrow's Auction, Slave 1 to 6 will be put on for bidding.", the guard proclaimed. "I will send over some men to move the cages.". After his announcement the guard leaves. Arion thinking out loudly: "Hmm, and who exactly is slave 1 to 6?". "That's us!", answers Lana. "Yea ya heard right, ya will be sold tomorrow, so ya better get good night sleep, so ya look presentable, hahaha...", the guard voices. His weird laugh is followed by 8 men entering the room and immediately starting to move Arions enclosure to the waiting room. The rest of the slaves that are to be sold are moved afterwards.
