Chapter 17: Inside the Armory
Finally standing in front of the door of the armory, Arion attempts not to show his excitement on his facial expression. Or at least he tries to but is not doing a very good job at it. Very soon Orelia looks at him with a grin on her face: "Are you that happy?", she asks. "Well, yes", he responds in a slight voice, Orelia now turns her attention to the guards in front of the armory. "Do you mind letting us in?", she asks, and without saying a sword the guards open the door. The more and more time Arion is with Orelia, he realises that she isn't like he thought. She doesn't hold herself like a princess, or at least like the princesses he knows from movies and books. She is very direct with the things she says and is definitely not arrogant in the slightest. She seems to talk in the same way to everyone, be it a guard, Arion or even the king. She doesn't hold back while talking to them. With all this going through Arion's head, he gets higher expectations of how he gets to live in the future. He wouldn't mind living with such a princess, as to him she seems more like a normal everyday girl, and a really pretty one.
The armory is finally opened. Arion and Orelia make their way inside, but to Arion's surprise it isn't as big as he thought. The room in itself is not small, but it is different from what he imagined. There are several closed boxes on the ground. A few more fancy weapons are exposed directly on the wall. A few shiny metal armors, that actually look like as if a person is still inside are standing throughout the room. It doesn't take very long until Arion's attention is drawn to the left corner of the room. He is unsure why he feels like there is something special there, but it seems like that something is calling him. Orelia is just standing in the middle of the room, and keeps staring at Arion. She seems to have realized that something is going on, but is unable to understand what exactly it is. Arion takes a closer look as he approaches the corner and sees a metal box that seems to be locked and chained down. The fact that the box is chained down surprised him as it isn't like the box can run away. He turns his head towards Orelia while pointing at the box: "Can I take a look inside this box?". "This box is a little bit special, we are unsure what is inside, as we have never opened it. We don't have the key, but I am unsure if there even is a key. If I remember correctly, the adventurer that found the box explained that the box in itself is magical. He apparently found it deep inside old ruins.", Orelia explains. This explanation peaks Arion's interest, but the main thing that peaks it is the tingly sense all over his body, The sense that he got instantly when he got closer to the box. Why does his body react to it, what is inside of it?
Now the only thing that he can think of is this box, so he turns his head towards Orelia: "Can I take a closer look like attempt to break it open?", he asks. "Why not, I mean this box has been lying around here for ages now and nobody knows what to do with it.", Orelia answers. "But as my father explained me, you can only receive one item from here. So you want this box? No sword?". Arion stops in his tracks for a second but shortly responds with a: "Yes!". "Even if I don't get a weapon in here now, I am sure I won't regret it, this box just seems to resonate with my demonic powers, so I am sure something special is in it. It is definitely something powerful.", Arion thinks. Orelia voices: "If you are sure, I'll get the keys for the chains", as she goes over to the guards. While Orelia fetches the keys, Arion keeps analyzing the box. The box in itself does not look that amazing, it looks like a general wooden box with a slight metal enforcement. On the front of it, it has a giant lock, or at least it looks like a lock, but it does not have an opening for a key. "How would one open this box?", Arion wonders.
Orelia is followed by a guard that holds several keys in his hands. As he enters the armory Arion moves to the side to let them get to the box. The guard gives Arion the usual disgusted look as he passes by. Arion already gets used to being treated this way, up till now no one has been directly hostile against him, except Julius a bit. After the guard removed the chains from the box, he instantly leaves without saying a word. Arion is surprised that most of the guards aren't really speaking much. Instantly Arion walks over to the box and tries to pick it up. To his surprise the box itself seems heavy yet very light. The box wasn't physically hard to lift but it seems to suck his demonic powers, as if something inside is feeding on his demonic powers. The box makes his arms feel heavy even though the box isn't heavy, but without giving it too much thought he walks towards the exit of the armory. As Oerlia follows him, she seems to realize again that something weird is happening, but is again unable to comprehend what exactly. Nevertheless, they make their way back to their rooms.
