Chapter 19: Chapter 18

After the third battle between Spider-Man and the Green Goblin at school, the Green Goblin fled through the sewers. Before disappearing, he ranted about purifying the world, creating super soldiers, and demonstrating his power to the North American military.

"Hahahahaha! I want them to see the might of Osborne's mass-produced warriors! I want to see military orders flooding in! I want my warriors to spread across the globe!"

Norman Osborn's obsession with creating super soldiers began when he was developing the super serum, hoping to collaborate with the military to turn the Osborne Group into a business empire. But when the serum proved unstable and was rejected by the military, Norman was forced to step down from his company, leading him down a path of revenge.

Norman's vendetta didn't stop with the executives he killed. His ultimate obsession was to produce super soldiers and prove his strength to the military. If they wouldn't work with him, they would regret it!

Peter Parker was struck with a sense of dread when he realized Norman's plan. He remembered seeing documents about the super serum while at the Osborne Building. The serum could be dispersed through a mist, turning anyone exposed into monsters like the Green Goblin.

This madman intended to use all of New York City as his stage!

"Gwen! I have to get to Osborn Enterprises and secure the serum to stop him. Tell your dad and evacuate the area around the Osborn Building—it's too dangerous!"

Before Gwen could respond, Peter swung away toward the Osborne Building. Meanwhile, the police arrived at the school, and Gwen relayed everything to her father, George. He instructed Gwen to go home while he and his officers headed to the Osborne Building to apprehend Norman.

Worried about Peter, Gwen seized a police motorcycle and sped off toward the Osborne Building. "I'm really sorry, I'll return the motorcycle!" she called out as she sped away.

This scene, with Gwen Stacy riding a police motorcycle in over-the-knee boots, was stunning and exhilarating! It was a striking departure from the 2002 version of "Spider-Man," where MJ was mostly seen screaming and being a damsel in distress. This new iteration of Gwen Stacy was fearless and cool, a heroine for a new era.

Spider-Man reached the Osborne Building first, ready to enter when suddenly, a dart severed his webbing. The Green Goblin swooped in, striking him hard and sending him crashing down onto a car below. Despite the fall, Peter maintained his usual humor. "Oh, my back! My_back! When this is over, I'm definitely getting a deep-tissue massage."

But before he could recover, he was surrounded by green-skinned monsters—the Green Goblin's experimental subjects. They had inhaled the serum mist and were now transformed into goblin-like creatures.

"Can't win alone, huh? Had to make some friends to help out?" Spider-Man quipped as he fought the mutants, struggling to subdue them without causing harm, knowing they were once innocent people.

Just then, the police arrived to help evacuate civilians and assist Spider-Man in battling the mutants. No longer viewing him as a criminal, they recognized Spider-Man as a true hero of New York City.

Meanwhile, Gwen, familiar with the lab from her internship at Osborn Enterprises, managed to break into the building amidst the chaos. She retrieved the healing serum just as the Green Goblin appeared, his sudden presence akin to a jump scare in a horror movie. The audience was jolted by the surprise, a clever trick by director Marc Webb.

As Spider-Man and the police subdued the mutants, Chief George Stacy aimed his gun at Spider-Man. "Spider-Man, come with me to the station. Take off your mask and reveal your identity!"

The audience was tense, fearing George would threaten Spider-Man. But then the Chief lowered his gun. "Don't worry, I just need you to give a statement. Under federal law, you have the right to refuse to remove your mask."

Just then, the Green Goblin appeared above the Osborne Building, holding Gwen in one hand. "Gwen! No!!!" Spider-Man's heart sank as he saw his girlfriend in danger. Chief George, recognizing the voice that had just called out to his daughter, was struck by a realization. Could it be...?

"Go! Go ahead! Please, save my daughter!" Chief George finally put aside his prejudices.

"Hold on tight! I'll get you out of this!" Spider-Man swung into action, with George and his officers following into the Osborne Building.

The audience's hearts were in their throats as the heroine was once again in the villain's clutches. Would Gwen make it out alive?

Spider-Man launched himself like a slingshot to intercept the Green Goblin. Before the Goblin could react, Spider-Man delivered a powerful kick, knocking him away and grabbing Gwen mid-air. He quickly secured her with a web, hanging her safely from the building.

"Got you!"

"Peter, look!" Gwen pointed out the Green Goblin, who was maniacally firing missiles at a sightseeing elevator filled with scientists trying to escape. "Oh, come on! This isn't over yet?" Peter muttered, exasperated. He hurriedly instructed Gwen to hold onto the webbing and stay put while he dashed to save the elevator.

The elevator's cables snapped, sending it plummeting down the building. Spider-Man arrived just in time, catching the elevator with his webbing and straining with superhuman strength to stop its fall. The intense scene had the audience gripping their seats.

But as Spider-Man tried to pull the elevator back up, the Green Goblin attacked again, knocking him off balance. Seizing the moment, the Goblin grabbed Gwen with one hand and the elevator cable with the other, leaving Spider-Man with an impossible choice.

"Spider-Man! You like being a hero, right? Let's see if you can save both! Ever heard of the trolley problem? This is the trolley problem made just for you!" the Green Goblin taunted, laughing maniacally.

Gwen, brave as ever, urged Peter to save the people in the elevator, but before she could finish, the Green Goblin let go of both at the same time.

"Shit!" Peter was left with an agonizing decision. The audience was frozen in suspense, unable to tear their eyes away from the screen.
