Chapter 1: Apologies
Back at the hospital, Xavier's dad was packing back and forth in his son's room, anxiously. When Xavier entered, his father was a bit shocked because his son who he had not seen smile sincerely was actually smiling like a child.
Of course he had seen him smiling, but his smiles always had a meaning and it was menacing. But as soon as he saw his father, the smile faded.
"Why are you here father?"
"were you smiling just now?"
"you're seeing things...", he paused then continued,
"you still haven't answered my question"
"Son, why do you insist on staying here when you can be transferred to Chryster"
Chryster was the hospital that their family always went to if anyone was feeling unwell.
"I'd like a change of scenery", Xavier proceeded to sit on a chair in the room and stared intently at his dad.
"Do you have a problem with this hospital"
"No... I don't", he answered hesitantly.
"Well since you don't, then I guess I'm staying and please pretend I'm away on a business trip and don't disturb me"
Xavier's dad sighed heavily, shook his head and left his room. In the parking lot, he called his wife.
"Honey, I couldn't persuade him..."
"What do you mean you couldn't persuade him!!", she shouted.
"You know how he is... let's just pray she doesn't recognize him"
"No she won't... she can't!"
"Don't worry, it's just a week and then they won't come in contact again", he assured her.
"Yes that's right"
The man ended the call and drove off. Michael suddenly came out from behind one of the cars and stared at the car as it zoomed off.
Xavier's room,
"You're right their hiding something"
"I know that, but did you hear anything else?"
"Something about 'her' not recognizing you I think"
"hmm"
The temperature in the room dropped and Michael could tell that Xavier was very angry, so he decided to change the topic.
"So... how'd it go with your ice queen?"
Xavier's expression changed and he chuckled,
"It went perfectly"
He seemed to have remembered something and kicked Michael.
"ow ow ow, what did I do?!"
"You silly bean, she knew it was you... but it's okay, she doesn't seem mad"
"phew, thank you"
Xavier looked puzzled and Michael proceeded to explain,
"you must have apologized for both of us"
"..."
"Are you serious right now... you didn't even apologize?"
"We were talking so it didn't cross my mind", Xavier's face grew pale and he started shaking Michael.
"That must be why she looked indifferent... she's trying to mask her anger"
Michael looked at Xavier strangely. Ever since he met Zuri, he changed but in a good way. He started showing more positive emotions.
"Okay chill out, may-maybe tomorrow when she comes for your check up you can apologize"
"But by then she would think it's insincere"
"So what are you gonna do... because it's already past 9 and she must have gone home already"
Xavier pushed him out the door and instructed him,
"no matter how indifferent she is, she is still a lady and she'll like flowers"
Michael's eyes widened, " where am I supposed to find flowers this night?!
"Do what I say and I'll give you a huge bonus next month", Xavier hurriedly removed his hospital clothes and put on some casual clothes that Michael had brought for him.
After Michael left, Xavier hit his forehead with his hand. There was one problem... he didn't know her address.
"think Xavier, think... ahah"
He rushed out the room and went straight to the receptionist downstairs.
"I would like to have Doctor Zuri's address... she forgot something in my room during my check up", he tried to say it with the straightest face.
The lady smiled and stretched her hand towards him,
"Thank you sir, but you can just give me the item and when she comes tomorrow morning, I'll give it to her".
Xavier let out a frustrated sigh and waved his hands at her and walked away. He was thinking of a solution while walking out when he bumped into someone.
Kelly quickly apologized but as she looked up at the person she had bumped into, she froze.
"Oh... sorry didn't see you there"
"..."
"Wait... aren't you doctor Zuri's PA?"
Kelly tried so hard to maintain her composure as she answered,
"Yes I am!"
Before he could say anything else, she started talking non-stop.
"Mr Xavier, my name is Kelly Parker and I follow you on every media platform!!"
"..."
"look! I have all your apps and oh I also have your new phone, it's aaaamazing and I also-"
Xavier had to cut her short as he was running out of time,
"that's good but I have to ask you for a favor"
"really?!... anything I'll do for you"
"good, can I have doctor Zuri's address... she forgot something in my room and I would like to return it"
"oh it's..."
It was when she had already told him the address did she realize that that was nothing she was supposed to say to anybody, even him.
She started to panic but Xavier had already gone out the door. She let her excitement get the better of her.
On his way out, Xavier thought Kelly to be a very unreliable PA and planned to tell Zuri to change her.
"I got it... it-it wasn't easy to fi-find!!", it was Michael who had come with fresh and beautiful roses.
He was gasping for air as he handed him the flowers.
"Thanks bro, you're a life saver"
Xavier entered his car and started the engine. He was about to drive off when Michael stopped him,
"bro... what are you doing... you don't even know where she lives"
"Who says I don't", Xavier smiled and winked at him.
Michael was not surprised, Xavier always got what he wanted.
