Chapter 42: Do you like her?

"Get some water," Reylan commanded Darren, who darted towards the dining hall. He ushered Christina to the sofa, helping her sit, while Blaze hovered nearby, his silent presence a comfort. 

Raymond was surprised by the kindness these vampires showed, especially towards Christina who was a human. It eased his worries about Christina falling for the wrong guy again. 

"Drink," Reylan instructed as Darren handed him a glass of water. He helped her take a few sips before passing back the glass.

"Is she alright?" Christina asked, her voice choked with emotion. Reylan's heart ached at the sight of her tear-filled eyes, and he nodded, inwardly cursing himself for lying again. Her fragile state confirmed that she wasn't ready for the truth yet. And though he knew it was wrong to keep it from her, they had to, especially now that the demon was on the Defenders' hunt list.
