"This is a military base on the coast. They were supposed to come to our rescue, not you, but you arrived first. We haven't received any response from that military base," Ben Miller clarified everyone's doubts in the room.
"You're being attacked by walkers. It would be impossible to get there in time to save them." Daryl couldn't help but mention this.
"Not exactly. We could get there in less time if we traveled in a C5. Of course, we'd need to make a quick stop to return as soon as possible." Eric proposed this to Dominic, who had been silent until now.
Ben looked at Dominic and said, "There are good soldiers with entire families at that base. We can save them if you make that decision. It's likely they will die if we don't."
Dominic remained silent for a moment before rising from the table. "This wasn't part of the plan. It's a very risky request that I need to consider carefully."
After saying this, Dominic left the room and walked to an open space not far away. This had become a real dilemma. On one hand, he had spoken about saving everyone and rebuilding humanity, but on the other hand, someone needed his help.
If he decided to go and help those survivors at the military base, he could endanger his own people, which he obviously didn't want to do. There was already enough danger coming to this place, so he didn't intend to change all his plans and take such a risk.
Moreover, these people seemed to have abandoned their duties as soldiers, staying here for years without receiving or sending distress signals.
It wasn't just about his decision. Of course, he wanted to save all those people in Texas, but he had to consider the situation of his family. Just as he was about to turn back, Dominic felt someone approaching his side.
"They say they can hold out for about six hours. What's the decision you're going to make?"
Hearing Daryl's words in silence, to be honest, Dominic was really thinking hard about his next decision. He hesitated for a moment, and before Daryl could say another word, he asked, "What do you think about this?"
"We've done many things together, and we've made it."
In some way, Daryl understood what Dominic was thinking and what he really wanted for everyone. He wasn't dumb, and even if they looked at him in silence, he was one of the smartest in the group. So he said, "But of all the people left in the world, we're the only ones who can go and save those people. I'm ready and will accept any decision you make."
Of course, Daryl didn't want to say some words that emphasized how dangerous this mission was. He knew what Dominic was thinking and also that the best thing for everyone was to go and try to save those people.
"Hmm, it seems my old friend Daryl is becoming more committed to the community. Later, the children of those you saved will write old legends about a man holding a large crossbow and riding a motorcycle." Negan emerged holding a blood-stained bat, looking at the soldiers with a slight smile.
When Negan mentioned this, Daryl showed a smile and said, "Shut up!"
"Well, I propose we kill them all and take their resources." Negan clearly preferred that those people die before going to save them.
"I'll make a decision later."
After having these words with Daryl, Dominic gained the confidence he needed and committed to ensuring that no one would get hurt under his responsibility. Those people needed a hero, and his community would come to their aid.
When he approached the others, Dominic asked his people to gather along with the civilians and the soldiers from this military base. In no time, everyone was gathered in front of Dominic, and he said, "I know it's difficult. There are people who need our help, and I believe we can do it without much trouble."
"Ben Miller, I've considered what you told me, and I think we can do something for those people at the military base. But there's something I need. Most of your soldiers must stay here, loading all the supplies onto the C5 planes and starting to transport everything to the border base, where we've saved everyone we could in this country."
"However, to go to that border base, I need you to come with me since you know that base and have been in contact with its people. I need you to contact them now and tell them they must be ready with all their people and the weapons, food, and resources they can carry in a short time."
Dominic took a deep breath and continued, "Gentlemen, we are the New Dawn Unification, and right now, there are people who need our help. We will do what we know best to save them and return as soon as we touch the ground. Eric, I need you to prepare a C5 plane to depart as soon as possible. If you think you can't do it, let me know, and I'll risk my people on this mission."
"Yes, sir!" Eric responded with a serious expression and immediately left with some soldiers to prepare and check the remaining C5 planes at the base.
Many of the soldiers from the three squads that came with their group to this base remained silent. None were really scared of this. They had trained for this: to save, kill walkers, and build a future.
On the other hand, the soldiers smiled with satisfaction. If Dominic had refused to save those people now, although it would be difficult, they would question whether he was really a good leader willing to do anything.
"Alright, gentlemen, along with the civilians, start moving all the supplies from this place to the locations for extraction to the border. A squad of fifteen men will follow me, and the rest will stay here to ensure everything goes smoothly."
"Yes, sir!"
"I'll go with you, Dominic. I promised to accompany you wherever you go, and this time will be no exception," said Rick as he approached Dominic.
"No, I need you here to carry out the work in this place."
"You can leave Negan. Daryl and the others also want to go with you and hopefully see if there's any change in the world." Rick didn't yield to Dominic's refusal.
"I'll go with you, Dominic, no exceptions!"
"And I'll go with my master!"
Daryl turned to get his gear, and Carlos followed him, talking about a bad joke he heard from Glenn. Daryl simply said nothing and kept walking.
Negan understood Dominic. There were combat planes and a maritime fleet that few knew how to control due to their different protocols, so Dominic had recently been focusing on recruiting Canadians to do that job for him.
World dominance, it's called. Negan knew Dominic didn't give a damn about these people, and his attitude now was more fake than lying to a child.
...
Half an hour later, a C5 plane was moving and positioned on the military base highway, ready to take off for the military base in Texas, which had been under attack by walkers for an hour.
Dominic left Elias, along with most of his soldiers, in charge of this place. And since they had to stay at this base for a while, they closed the opening in the military base to prevent any walkers from invading.
Those accompanying Dominic on this trip were Daryl, Negan, Abraham, and Glenn, along with some other soldiers who had accompanied him. Some soldiers from this military base who were not pilots and Colonel Ben Miller also went on this trip.
After a few minutes of preparation, the C5 was piloted by Eric, and Dominic's group set off on a surprising journey to Texas.
"Guys, on this damn trip, we'll get a lot of things and finally leave Atlanta," Carlos shouted with a happy smile.
"Calm down, boy. You just told me you're afraid of heights."
"I'll close my eyes."
"Ha, ha, ha."
In no time, the C5 flew in the direction with a purpose that united them all: to save the people at the military base and return as soon as possible with quality resources.
