Keeping the unreliable at bay ensures a safe atmosphere. Dominic, who knew the people around him, had learned this well. Simply put, he would never be betrayed by these people because he knew them perfectly.
The difference between them and others is loyalty. This is how he slowly brought them all into his exploration team on the Canadian border, gradually building closer communication.
Now, they were all loyal subordinates, understanding the work they were doing and grateful for the opportunity to rescue those in need.
"Zz... Descending."
Stuart stayed with the soldiers at the base he had cleared a few minutes ago. He would monitor them and, if necessary, kill them due to trust issues.
Everyone knew who Dominic was, but they didn't really understand the extent of his madness.
At that moment, a large horde was heading towards the coastal military base. The soldiers began shooting with everything they had at the undead while waiting for the supposed help. After all, this was the least they could do at that moment.
Beside the highway, numerous large crates of weapons and ammunition, military food, and many other crucial supplies were being moved. Both soldiers and civilians, including children, had been transporting materials since receiving the message that help was on the way.
Just when they thought no one was coming to help, a C5 plane expertly maneuvered through the sky. In a short time, it landed perfectly on the military base's runway, as if it were about to crash into the ground.
"Move now! The first team, load the supplies, and the others, refuel the tank!"
"Yes, sir!"
Everyone was extremely excited. The help they had long awaited had finally arrived. Initially, they inevitably thought it wouldn't happen.
When the plane landed and gradually came to a stop, it positioned itself for a quick departure. The rear door opened, and the soldiers Dominic had brought disembarked in an orderly manner.
Their uniforms varied between gray and dark green, their weapons were identical, and they began securing the perimeter. Ben Miller watched as Dominic approached.
A man in a dirty military suit approached Ben and Dominic, who had exited last, and said, "I'm proud to have you here. We'll start bringing in all the essential supplies for the journey now."
"How many are there?" Dominic asked, watching his people establish a secure perimeter.
"There are a little over two hundred civilians and one hundred and twenty soldiers. Our people are currently eliminating the infected, but we won't last long here," the soldier said nervously.
"Hmm, have the soldiers start loading the supplies and the civilians board the plane. My people will ensure no one has any bites."
Dominic signaled to Daryl, who nodded and followed closely. They needed to see if the situation was as bad as these people claimed, simply verifying it in a few words.
Negan approached and asked, "Just the hands or the feet too?"
"Both. If they resist, remove them from the plane. If they refuse, kill them," Dominic said, knowing they could all be infected. This was the only way to keep them alive.
At that moment, an explosion was heard in the distance. A few seconds later, several military vehicles and armored cars approached, with hundreds of fast-running walkers closely following.
"Form a defensive line at the mouth of the plane! Don't retreat too far!"
Hearing Dominic's shout, everyone fixed their sights on the distant walkers and began firing. The numerous gunshots soon flooded the area, and the situation became chaotic.
Amid the sound of gunfire and the noises of the walkers, this sudden movement naturally alarmed everyone at the military base, waking them from their calm and joy.
In just a few seconds, the entire military base was in chaos. People ran out of their shelters, attacking other soldiers and trying to invade the military plane in a hurry, watching the disaster unfold with horror or concern.
Rooooarrrrr
"Damn, this is bad!" Abraham shouted, holding a machine gun and firing hundreds of bullets per second.
Crack!
"Children first, you damned animals. If no one understands words, you won't board the plane."
Bang! Bang! Bang!
A dozen soldiers aimed at the survivors, trying to rush into the plane. Seeing the situation worsen, Dominic ordered a retreat.
"Let's go! We'll only take the children and the supplies." Dominic hadn't anticipated the complexity of the situation. It was beyond his control.
Ben looked at Dominic and demanded, "You must take them all."
"No, it doesn't work that way, Mr. Ben. You can stay with them if you wish." Dominic entered the plane with his people as his parents left their children behind.
"You can take them all."
Of course he could, but there were hundreds of uncontrolled people who could cause problems once they were in the air. Since they had no control and had even attacked his soldiers, they could die at this base.
"Just the children. Fight and reclaim the dignity you've lost as soldiers."
Ben looked at the soldiers, who had stopped shooting. They all understood perfectly what he meant, so they didn't turn back and advanced as their families did too.
"Give me your weapon," Ben said to Daryl, who reluctantly handed it over. Then he joined those brave men. "Let's go, soldiers. We've abandoned the country we swore to protect. Now it's time to reclaim our honor."
"Your children are safe. Let's give them the time they need to take off."
"For humanity!"
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Boom!
The plane's doors closed, and it prepared for takeoff. Dominic looked at all the crying children but said nothing. He would return to this base for the resources, but it would require better planning.
