Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Soul Awakening Ceremony

The children were lined side by side on the altar inside the Spirit Hall, and Wong Yazhu deliberately stood right beside Tang San, who stood at the leftmost side. He was a little thinner and smaller than other children his age, but Wong Yazhu was almost a head shorter than him.

'I feel like I will be short when I grow up.' He thought, acting excited to keep the 'Wong Yazhu' persona up. 'I hope I inherit some of my father's height. I do NOT want to be short.'

"I am called Su Yuntao, a twenty-sixth-ranked Spirit Grandmaster, and will be your guide. Now, I will have you undergo spirit awakening one by one. Remember, regardless of what happens, do not be afraid."

While speaking, Su Yuntao unfolded a bundle on a desk to one side, taking out two things from inside: six round pitch-black stones and one sparkling blue crystal ball.

'I am about to awaken!' He was acting as excited as Wong Yazhu, but he was scared. 'Please. Please, GOD. Just give me 1 point in soul power. That would be enough.' He paused. 'No, at least three... at most 5... I might be pushing it with 7… 9 would be generous... Fuck, it. Please, GOD Almighty, give me a level ten soul power.'

Su Yuntao placed the six black stones on the ground in a hexagon form, just large enough for a child to stand in the middle, then motioned the first child on the right to stand inside. "Don't be afraid."

"Now, I will show you what a Martial Soul is." As the child silently stood in the circle, Su Yuntao's eyes suddenly lit up before the children's and adult eyes standing at the back. He shouted in a deep voice, "Lone Wolf Body Enhancement."

A wisp of thin blue-green light rose from between his eyebrows, following straight up, entering into the hair knot. Su Yuntao's hair was originally black, but just after that blue-green light poured in, it had turned gray in a flash. Furthermore, it quickly grew longer, and colored fur appeared on both his uncovered hands. At the same time, his body also seemed to expand a great deal compared to before, his growing taller and his whole body swelling with muscle.

The Spirit Hall clothing he wore had very good elasticity; it actually didn't rip when filling to the point of bursting because of his body growing large. Su Yuntao's eyes had already changed to a faint green color. Sharp claws stretched out from the ten fingers on both hands, glimmering coolly with a dazzling gleam. Two concentric halos of light, one white and the other yellow, shone brightly up from underfoot, constantly moving from underfoot to the crown of his head.

The boy he told to stand among the black stones, with eyes staring at Su Yuntao's body transforming, suddenly shouted, "Aaaaah~~~~~~," crying as he was about to run away from fear.

The fresh green radiance in Su Yuntao's eyes was truly frightening. Even Wong Yazhu froze. This wasn't part of his act. He felt as if he was actually being stared at by a wolf.

'Damn.' He thought, instinctively stepping back like the other children except for Tang San. 'This is genuinely scary.' He knew this was coming, but seeing a 205 cm tall werewolf with realistic textures right in front of him was not something he had expected.

"Don't move." Su Yuntao quickly caught hold of that child. "I said not to be afraid. This is my Martial Soul, my spirit, Lone Wolf. If one of you is capable of becoming a spirit master in the future, they will also be able to employ similar abilities."

He then arranged the boy in the circle and clapped, performing multiple Naruto-like hand signs at lightning speed, before extending one palm to the six stones as faint green lights poured out from his palm, flowing into the stones on the ground around the boy. At once, a layer of golden misty light released from the stones and rose.

The previously noisily crying child was enveloped in the faint golden light flowing out from the stone, and he immediately became quiet, just somewhat dully standing there. Every speck of the golden light came fluttering up from the black stones, further entering the body of the boy.

"Extend your hands" Su Yuntao commanded.

The boy extended his hands and then paused. All the light specks surged out from his body, and instantly, a sickle appeared in his hand. It would appear that the sickle wasn't any trick of the light, and rather it truly existed.

"It's a Tool Spirit." Su Yuntao's brows creased. "Can a sickle be regarded as a weapon? It ought to with effort."

The golden light gradually disappeared. The boy, somewhat amazed, looked at the not particularly small sickle in his hand, rather at a loss.

"Come, let me test if you have spirit power." Su Yuntao called out. "If you possess spirit power, even a tool spirit can undergo Battle Spirit Cultivation. After all, a sickle certainly has potential for attack."

"Great-, great teacher, what should I do?" The boy timidly asked.

"Intentionally recall your spirit." Su Yuntao replied. "From now on try to remember the time you employed it and use that thought to call it out."

The boy tried for a long time just to recall the sickle, and when he finally did, Su Yuntao held the blue crystal ball on his left palm in front of the boy, motioning him to place his right hand on it.

The boy placed both of his little hands above and below the crystal and after a moment of silence, Su Yuntao somewhat dejectedly said: "No spirit power. You can't become a Spirit Master. For now, step aside."

Wong Yazhu heard the murmur of the parents behind but he ignored them.

Similar scenes continued to play out, and one after the eight children in front of Wong Yazhu had their spirit awakened.

Martial Spirit Spoon. A tool spirit with no soul power.

Martial Spirit Empty Bottle. A tool spirit with no soul power.

Martial Spirit Shovel. A tool spirit with no soul power.

Martial Spirit Sickle. A tool spirit with no soul power.

Martial Spirit Axe. A tool spirit with no soul power.

Martial Spirit Rake. A tool spirit with no soul power.

Martial Spirit Sickle. A tool spirit with no soul power.

Martial Spirit River Grass. A tool spirit with no soul power. The girl beside Wong Yazhu went, one of his 'friends.'

Now, it was Wong Yazhu's turn. His heart was pounding fast against his chest, his palms slick with sweat. After witnessing eight consecutive awakenings without any spirit power, his hope of possessing any was nearly extinguished, hovering close to zero.

"Next, step forward," Su Yuntao called out briskly, his tone carrying a hint of exhaustion.

Wong Yazhu hurried forward, stumbling slightly but catching herself as she entered the hexagonal arrangement of stones. Taking a deep breath, she steadied her nerves, watching as Su Yuntao performed the same hand signs as before. As the energy flowed from his palms into the stones, they began to levitate slightly, enveloping Wong Yazhu in a golden light.

Warmth was Wong Yazhu's first sensation as if her whole body was wrapped up inside a nice and warm world, unspeakably comfortable, calming her nerves. Now she understood why the previous children had calmed down so quickly under its glow. The warmth seemed to breathe through her body, gathering in her stomach and filling her with an inexplicable peace.

As the stones ceased their glow and settled back to the ground, Wong Yazhu raised her hands in front of her. The light from her body gathered around on top the palms of her hands and it slowly gathered into a faint red light bubbled, which then condensed into her martial spirit.

It was a plant, seemingly a palm-like tree with a thick stem about 15 cm long. The stem looked as if multiple sticks with thich barks were twisted together, the top thinner than the broad bottom that's as thick as her fist from which small roots extended out. Atop this stem sat a huge, red flower, similar to a rose, yet closed, as if not yet to bloom.

'I've seen this somewhere before,' she thought, a sense of déjà vu washing over her.

Su Yuntao peered closely, his brows knitting together in concentration. "Hmm. A new martial spirit," he said aloud.

It wasn't rare to see a martial spirit not recorded in the Spirit Hall Records during an awakening, especially against commoners with no family lineage. Most of the time, they are useless, just like this plant that looked like the mix of a rose and a palm tree. But there was once a commoner who awakened a dragon Martial Spirit, but that was a hundred years ago.

Not holding much hope but adhering to procedure, he instructed, "Put your spirit away and touch the orb."

With a mere thought, Wong Yazhu sent the spirit away much faster than the other children. With her palm just about to touch the blue crystal ball, Wong Yazhu's body fiercely trembled all of a sudden. She was shocked to discover that the seemingly very beautiful blue crystal ball unexpectedly possessed tremendous attraction, his inner strength surging out as if finding an outlet.

Once his palms touched it, the blue crystal ball in his hand began to shine, dazzling blue light starting from a point in the middle and spreading outwards, stopping after a few seconds, after about 90% of the inside orb had been engulfed by the light.

In accordance with the traditional test, as long as the crystal ball gave some response, even a single trace of radiance, it would prove by a test that spirit power existed, and at present, the blue crystal ball radiated at about 90%, meaning there was only one explanation.

"It seems... she has a level 9 soul power!" Su Yuntao was shocked. It was rare for a commoner to even have soul power. He has awakened about a thousand children in the past few years, and from them, only about 100 had soul power. From that 100, 90 had their innate soul power below 3. The other ten had below five.

This was his first time seeing a nine. You should know your innate soul power determines your cultivation speed. This is a high-grade talent!

"FUCK YEAH!" Wong Yazhu roared, drawing all attention to him. "My baby can be a Spirit Master! HAHAHAHA!" He roared out in laughter, earning scorn from the parents around him.

Wong Yazhu was also thrilled. He was excited. His whole body felt like it was on fire. "Fuck yeah, daddy!!!" She roared, holding her hands up and grinning from ear to ear. 'THANK YOU GOD! I will pray to you EVERY NIGHT!'

All eyes turned to Wong Yazhu, who was jumping onto the stage, shouting fuck yeah, then back at Wong Yazhu, who cleared his throat, realizing his mistake.

Su Yuntao quickly calmed her down. "Return to the line and let the boy awaken his martial spirit.'

Wong Yazhu, riding the high of his success, had to bite back the sentence 'fuck you, I can cultivate' and moved to stand beside Tang San, a wide grin on his face.

This was all he wanted. Fuck his martial spirit. All he wanted was a soul power, and GOD granted him his wish. GOD is indeed generous.

Tang San, seemingly unaffected by the commotion around him, stepped forward without needing an invitation, entering the hexagonal arrangement of stones with a calm demeanor.

As Su Yuntao initiated the awakening for Tang San, a remarkable amount of golden light surged from the boy's body, casting a luminous glow over the stage. This spectacle drew gasps from Su Yuntao, the parents, and the children alike, their eyes widening as they watched the droplets of light dance through the air, only to converge and form a simple Blue Silver Grass.

A heavy silence enveloped the hall, the sort that comes from dashed expectations. After the dazzling display of golden light, everyone had anticipated something extraordinary. Yet, the appearance of the Blue Silver Grass felt like a collective letdown, robbing the audience of their anticipation for greatness.

Su Yuntao, disappointed, sighed deeply before picking up the orb from the podium. He held it out to Tang San, who, having observed the others, dismissed his Blue Silver Grass with a swift thought, rivaling Wong Yazhu's quick dismissal of her spirit.

As Tang San's palm made contact with the blue crystal ball, an immediate transformation occurred. The orb began to shine with a dazzling blue light that spread instantaneously, engulfing the orb in a brilliance that made it resemble a resplendent, sparkling gem.

"Heavens! It actually is innate full spirit power!?" It was Su Yuntao's time to roar.
