Chapter 89: Chapter 88

Kara guessed correctly; Bruce and Harvey indeed had a plan in motion, which became clear when Bruce called her.

"Harvey's trying to use himself as bait for the Joker," Bruce explained. "And the plan is for me to capture the Joker."

"Joker knows your identity, Bruce," Kara reminded him, "and even if Harvey can draw him out, it's only because Harvey is already Joker's target, putting him in immediate danger." Kara's thoughts returned to the past—she remembered all too well how Joker had deduced her identity through Bruce.

Bruce was well aware of the risk, which is why he had turned to Kara for help. "So, I need your assistance," he urged.

"No way, Bruce. You know that's impossible," Kara refused him without hesitation. "You wouldn't let me kill the Joker, so there's nothing I can do."

"He needs to face justice!" Bruce shouted.

But his idea of justice wasn't one Kara could accept. She knew that Bruce's version of justice would only end in Joker being imprisoned, an outcome that was both too lenient and would inevitably lead to further chaos.

Unable to reach an agreement, she decided to end the call. As she prepared to hang up, Bruce's voice broke through once more: "Kara, you can't abandon Harvey over personal reasons."

Kara paused, her voice cutting through coldly. "Bruce, Harvey's life matters, but so does Jennifer's." She reminded him of how the Joker had targeted Jennifer repeatedly, including during yesterday's encounter, when he threatened her as a means to taunt Kara.

She continued, "I can't let her be in danger anymore. At least Harvey has you. If I leave, what will happen to Jennifer?"

Bruce had no response. Kara's tone made it clear she was finished with the conversation, snapping the phone shut before Bruce could argue further.

Just then, she noticed Jennifer standing nearby with two boxes of ice cream in her hands. "Want some?" Jennifer asked.

Kara quickly took both boxes from her. "You shouldn't be eating anything too cold right now."

"When did you become a doctor?" Jennifer chuckled. Then, her smile faded slightly. "So, you're letting the Joker go because of me. I'm sorry."

Kara shrugged, dismissing Jennifer's worries. "Bruce will handle it."

"And if he doesn't?"

"Then he can deal with the consequences," Kara replied, half-jokingly, before adding, "I'm kidding. Don't worry, Batman will get it done." With a small smirk, she stepped aside with both boxes of ice cream.

Jennifer watched Kara, a bit exasperated but more relieved than anything. Kara, noticing Jennifer's expression, sighed and handed back the half-eaten box. As she returned the other to the fridge, she pulled out her phone. "Alfred, I need you to bring my gear."

To her surprise, Alfred replied, "Miss Kara, I'm already downstairs. I'll bring it up now."

Kara's eyebrows lifted. It seemed Bruce was set on her helping, despite her objections.

When Alfred arrived, Kara retreated to her bedroom, donning her silver-gray suit. Alfred was waiting as she emerged, saying, "Your vehicle is ready downstairs, Miss Kara."

Kara's lips turned up in a small smile. She'd been wanting to take that vehicle for a spin for a while now. Before leaving, she turned to Alfred. "Alfred, look after Jennifer. I trust no one more than you."

Alfred nodded. "Miss Rachel already left for the manor, so you can rest assured. I'll protect Miss Jennifer—and the little Wayne she carries."

Kara's expression softened as she glanced at Jennifer, who was rubbing her stomach, muttering something about "the kid" being hers alone. Kara chuckled to herself. She had no doubt the child was Bruce's, given the peculiar dreams she'd had of a mischievous little boy named Damian.

Clearing her mind of that thought, Kara swept down the stairs, her silver-gray suit exuding a quiet elegance. When she reached the street, a sleek, silver-gray vehicle awaited her, drawing the attention of passersby, some of whom were already snapping photos.

Kara approached confidently, stepping up onto the front of the car. "What are you looking at?" she called to the onlookers with a smirk.

One bold spectator replied, "We've never seen this car before."

Kara grinned. "Well, then, snap a picture for me."

She held her pose for a moment, then opened the car door and slipped inside. She took a moment to familiarize herself with the complex console before raising her hand confidently to start the vehicle. But as she did, a warning chimed, and a voice from the car's system spoke: "Goodbye."

With a loud explosion, the car detonated, leaving Kara shocked as she scrambled from the wreckage, now astride a motorcycle. Dazed and irritated, she muttered, "What the hell just happened? Four wheels turned into two?"

The crowd that had been filming was now equally stunned, watching as Kara sped off, unshaken and as fierce as ever.
