Chapter 90: Chapter 89

Kara operated with the fierce precision of a tiger, but in her haste, she accidentally activated the self-destruct system of the tank, abandoning it in favor of a backup locomotive hidden inside. She sped off in the direction of the convoy.

Upstairs, Alfred and Jennifer had clearly heard the commotion downstairs.

Standing by the window, Jennifer held her ice cream, savoring each bite, as she watched the sleek, silver-gray machine disappearing into the distance. She turned and glanced at Alfred.

Alfred muttered, "Did I forget to mention that this is the latest prototype tank?"

Apparently, this cutting-edge model was equipped with a backup motorcycle concealed within the tank's system. In the event of severe damage, the tank could be replaced by the motorcycle to maintain mobility. However, to prevent the tank from being recovered by anyone else, activating the motorcycle would trigger the tank's self-destruct sequence.

Kara, unfortunately, knew how to operate the older models but had accidentally triggered the self-destruct in this new one.

When she finally located Bruce and joined him, Bruce looked her over, eyebrows raised. "Were you attacked?"

Kara, too embarrassed to admit her mistake, nodded vaguely. "Something like that. Where's Harvey?"

Bruce didn't press her further. "Harvey's drawing the Joker out. Once he does, we'll make our move."

In other words, they were lying in wait, setting a trap for the Joker.

Kara straightened up from her new ride, taking a closer look. This wasn't an ordinary motorcycle. Designed for maximum speed, it had been adapted for concealment within the tank, which meant comfort had been sacrificed for performance. The tripod support at the back of the bike forced her to lean forward uncomfortably, putting all her weight on her hands, which quickly grew tiresome.

"If you're going to stash a bike in a tank, you could at least make it something cooler," she muttered under her breath. "A sleek sports car would have been better."

Bruce chuckled. If he had known that giving her the latest tank would be met with complaints, he might have chosen an older model just to keep her satisfied.

Just as Kara finished voicing her complaints, Bruce received a message: the convoy transporting Harvey had set out. Earlier that day, Harvey had publicly claimed to be Batman, drawing Joker's attention. To ensure Harvey's safety, he was being escorted to another prison facility, but the journey was designed as bait for Joker.

The entire plan hinged on Joker's notorious unpredictability and penchant for chaos.

Sure enough, shortly after the convoy departed, they encountered a series of obstacles—a row of burning trucks blocking the road, forcing the convoy to divert into an underground tunnel. But once inside, they were ambushed by several other trucks, initiating a brutal attack on the escort convoy.

With the attackers' firepower overwhelming the guards, Bruce and Kara knew it was time to act.

Bruce glanced at Kara, offering her a seat in the Batmobile, but she shook her head. "No thanks. Teaming up with you only ties me down," she quipped.

Bruce knew what she meant—she wasn't willing to hold back.

Before Bruce could object, Kara said pointedly, "Bruce, do you know how many people have already died because of him?"

He fell silent.

Without another word, Kara revved her motorcycle and shot forward, a silver blur streaking toward the scene.

Bruce quickly followed her lead.

When they arrived, the battle in the tunnel had reached its peak, with the Joker's men even pulling out rocket launchers.

Kara cast Bruce a sideways glance. "You really want to keep someone like that alive?" she asked with a sarcastic tone over the comms.

Bruce's voice was calm but firm. "We at least need to keep the Joker alive."

"Yeah, sure." Kara rolled her eyes, accelerating to leave Bruce's vehicle behind as she charged head-on toward the convoy.

Unlike the attackers, who had been trailing the convoy, Bruce and Kara approached from the opposite direction, blocking them off.

Kara weaved around the police vehicles, zeroing in on one of the Joker's trucks. Inside the truck, the driver and his partner exchanged glances, sneering as they saw her approach. Confident in their truck's size and power, they revved toward her, certain she would veer off.

But Kara didn't flinch.

From a distance, Bruce's voice crackled over the comms. "Kara, what are you—" His words were cut off as he realized what she intended.

At the last second, Kara lifted the front of her bike, launching it into the truck's windshield. The force shattered the glass, propelling her into the cabin with brutal precision.

She braced herself, the impact and momentum hurling her through the truck's cockpit, slamming the driver and his partner against the dashboard with a sickening crunch.

Seconds later, the truck veered off course, slamming into the tunnel wall.

Over the comms, Kara's voice came through, slightly breathless but unhurt. "Relax, Bruce. I'm still in one piece."

Relieved, Bruce quickly focused on his own target. Pressing down on the accelerator, he maneuvered his armored vehicle under another of the Joker's trucks, flipping it into the air. Within moments, both Kara and Bruce had taken down one of the enemy trucks each.

The Joker's convoy was quickly dwindling, with the remaining trucks forced into a defensive formation as Bruce and Kara closed in, ready to bring Joker to justice once and for all.
