"I hope you're right about that." She entered the two-story apartment complex and parked it under the metal car park.

"We probably didn't get past them. But if they didn't see us coming here, they'd probably just keep driving and -"

A police car approached and Bella and Diana bowed.

Seconds passed. The car continued on the road, its engine rumbled slightly.

Diana looked out the windshield. "They're still going. If they come back to check the parking lots, they might find the SUV, especially if they see the license plate before we turn into the street perpendicular to where the barricades were set."

He got out of the car, glad that the police didn't notice the wet drizzle in the car while those parked next to him were as dry as the desert. "You don't have to come."

"You're not avoiding me again." She slammed her door shut.
