Chapter 1: Chapter 1 Start Of The Invasion

it's the year 2027 and advanced technology went up to the rising point as the Kingdom of Novergrad introduced its advanced technology to the world, the capital city of Novergrad, Basswood City has a combination of traditional to advanced architecture, tourism is quite booming as numerous tourists from all over the world to discover the hidden gems or try out the Amethyst Cove, it's like the Copacabana of Brazil and Miami Beach in Florida combined in one, the country's government is Hereditary-Monarchy. the head of state is King Daniel Walker and the Walker Royal Family, the Prime Minister and founder of the Phantom Forces, Jaune Sharp used to be a soldier of the Kingdom of Novergrad Armed Forces or KNAF.
every country has a flag and Novergrad has that, the crown symbolizes the current choice of government: Hereditary Monarchy, blue was the symbol of vigilance while the red means bravery and the yellow symbolize generosity, just like the residents of the wonderful country. the culture was mixed with European, Asian Pacific, and the Caribbean. the Kingdom was located not far from the East of the United Kingdom
despite Novergrad has all the advanced technology that could shock the whole world, it has an archenemy that could rule them over someday and it's the Ghosts, a terrorist organization founded by the previous prime minister of state, Javier Roiland, and the former Five Star General of the KNAF, Christian Taylor and the defunct 87th Delta Ghosts Regiment, the reason the whole regiment was defunct as the said General and former prime minister are behind of the attempted coup d'etat against the Royal Family but they were failed as the elite 170th Phantoms Regiment foiled their plans
on the following day after the failed coup, the 87th Regiment was defunct and the General was expelled from service, and the Prime Minister was sacked and replaced by current Prime Minister Jaune Sharp, as time goes by, the foiled officials are planning for the ultimate revenge of the Royal Family and the current Prime Minister for ruining their plans to restore the glory of the Kingdom of Novergrad. the Kingdom was founded on the 15th of August, 1948 and the day of independence was celebrated on the 30th of September, 1987 after the Battle of Amethyst Cove and Battle of Murdoch Hill.
it was hell out there and they were claimed victorious as the Ghosts were plummeted by the Blitzkrieg, a military tactic that trembled the European Theater during the Second World War and it's proven to be effective by the Novergrad Army to defeat the Ghosts but it gained a little controversy as they copied the war tactic from Nazi Germany but the Generals of that time explained that the Blitzkrieg was proven effective during the Second World War and they said that none of the officers nor field marshals nor soldiers that were deployed during the time are ex-soldiers from Nazi Germany during WW2 or associated with the organization whatsoever and the little question is that where did they get weapons from the fifty-two-year-old war came from a vast kingdom of Novergrad? as the war ended, the remaining firearms from the Axis to the Allied Powers were brought by the former king of Novergrad, King Joseph Maximilian II.
the said king brought one gun by each nation by the Allies and the Axis and started the production of making the certified copies of the guns of the Second World War, since Novergrad joined NATO on June 15, 1950, after three days after joining to UN by June 12, 1950. the copied guns were added bullets that NATO specified that all weapons that the member of NATO are obliged to fit in. and they did it all thanks to the booming factories that they made until the country hit rock-bottomed during the mid-1960s, kinda like how the US felt during the Great Depression in the '30s and they sprung up in the '70s
they even fixed the defunct G-11 rifles from Heckler and Koch.
the planes from the Second World War were rebuilt with improved performance but some were reserved for ceremonial and training purposes. as new firearms were introduced in the market with new military machines and advanced tech, they decided to add them to the military arsenal but the weapons from the old war were still used until this day due to overall performance, some of which are deployed on infantry regiments, sniper teams and reserved for the National Guard of Novergrad or used in combat training
that's enough for history for today and let's get to the story, it's one fine morning as the protagonist is ready to set sail for work. his name is Zane McBride, an 18 year old young professional. graduated cum laude from Heather University and finished Westerburg Highschool. he even joined the school's varsity team in volleyball despite the recent ankle injury and weak lungs, his teammates made it to the finals and Team Westerburg was declared champions in the school year of 2025-2026, right now. he's heading for the hospital for the awaited lung transplant. good thing the Universal Health Care Law approved by the Novergrad Parliament, all residents and immigrants of Novergrad will receive free of charge from treatment bills from hospitals and medicine if they have a health insurance card issued by the Department of Health. if the patient didn't have a health insurance card, they're free to get one with a birth certificate and one valid id, the confirmation can last a day or two.
if the hospital failed to receive equal treatment of both poor and rich patients, the hospital will be paying a hefty fine of 100,000 Alz to the Parliament, as added funds for further projects or helping out with the poor.
Zane's current occupation is working on a restaurant called Treasure Kitchen, it served the finest Asian Pacific-European cuisine at a decent price that a normal family can afford when he's not in the line of work. he's a small-time entrepreneur and he's selling cosmetics, perfume, cologne, and beauty products also freshly baked pretzels.
he has a stand on the Market District, he lived in an apartment with the Konmari method in A. Hamilton Street and A. Burr Road. the organ transplant turned out to be successful and he's seeking to recover in the next two weeks, five days have passed and Zane is walking down the hallways of the hospital just for a stroll rather than sitting down on the bed while doing nothing, he was told by the doctors to do breathing exercises and try not to run, so he was on the wheelchair daily while listening to music to cure his boredom. one day his life was changed after numerous explosions were heard farther away from the hospital that he was confined. the patients were evacuated including the protagonist as the invasion is getting worse as they expected, each of the patients is transported by military ambulances or by airlift. the Kingdom of Novergrad Armed Forces are trying their best to outsmart the Ghost Army but they were surprised as they bombed the whole city including the Royal Palace and the Royal Family and the Parliament were survived during the bombardment except for the whole city and its citizens, the 170th Phantoms Regiment, the 76th Mockingjay Battalion, and the 57th Delta Stormtrooper Regiment were deployed to alleviate the situation along with the 5th and 20th Royal Guard Detachment, the units fought hard to liberate the city including the Air Force as numerous jets are seen in the sky while the Navy held strong as numerous bombardments from enemy ships and aircraft that could cripple the Novergrad fleet. citizens of Novergrad were evacuated underground along with the Parliament and the Royal Family, Zane woke up after being unconscious for five days as they got into a gunfight while evacuating him.
"where am I? how long I was out?" Zane asked
"you're in the evacuation center, you're conked out for five days now, at least things are okay for now" the doctor replied
"Woah, it's been five days after the invasion started? is the city alright after the Ghost Army invaded? I kinda forgot my things up there" Zane said
"rest assured McBride, your belongings and your parents are also here, so you won't risk your life to get out of here"
"if you wanted to be like them, better ask the army officer right there if you want to join like them"
"Thanks for the information m' am"
Zane got up from the fold-able bedding and walk up to the army officer in his mid 40's, has a normal build like any other soldier in the army, he's about to sign up for the Army to fight against the Ghost Army but he needs his parent's consent to avail it, they were concerned because the protagonist was recovered from the surgeries before it all happened and the nurse said earlier, his recovery went well and he's ready to join the army. he was placed on the 19th Trainees Corps along with the other recruits. they went to vigorous training in the military academy located on Sapphire Grove, just a couple miles from the city, each of the recruits is getting picked by the other troops after 6 months of training.
before he left the evacuation center, his father handed out his equipment during his time on the Keepers of Royal Woods Chapter, the Keepers are the secret organization that is responsible for the low crime rate of Royal Woods, despite the RWPD are clueless about it but at least the locals are safe for now. the Keepers were disbanded in 2022 after their ring leader mysteriously died on his yacht in Florida. his father trained him like an assassin even his elder sister was trained to be an assassin, last time he used it, he beat up a red-head jerk that bullied his albino best friend, he got suspended after that but it's all worth it because the red-head preteen was picking on him because he's making fun of him and adding his 15-year old sister and his girlfriend, that was not cool until Zane broke his lights out. his father picked him up and he wasn't mad since he did a huge mistake in school but he was praised for doing what's right, and luckily his mother didn't pick him up during that day or he's toast on that day.
"here have this, it's been a long time since I wield this bad boy for decades. I'm going to pass this to you, for the legacy of the Keepers" his father said to Zane
"Thanks, dad, it's an honor to continue the forgotten legacy of the Keepers. since you trained me and my sister into one someday. too bad they're gone five years ago, we were Novices back then and you're the Master Assassin during the good old times in Royal Woods. at least they're okay after we left without saying goodbye, I kinda regret that day we left our old home." Zane replied sadly
"don't worry son, it's been a few years since we left Royal Woods. life can be unfair but something can be good as you do something good to your kind during times like this, and remember good luck out there and don't die out there" his father added
"I won't go home on the coffin dad, it's going to be a long journey ahead for me"
"It sure is son, it's going to be a long journey for you."
Zane entered the train along with the other recruits and sets off to Sapphire Grove because the streets of Basswood isn't a good idea to drive amid the battle, the train is taking the alternate route as the route to Ruby Hill was located in the hot zone, half of the city was destroyed during the invasion while some were intact or partially destroyed. the smoke has risen in the air while the recruits wanted to see whether it's the Ghost Army or the KNAF. the smoke was revealed and it's the KNAF. they've become victorious while the Ghost Army didn't take it anymore. Zane wasn't in the mood to see in the window as he fell asleep during the trip
