Night.
The bright moonlight cast down upon the earth, but instead of bringing comfort, it only added a touch of deathly desolation.
The Fifth Day.
Time moved quickly. It wouldn't be long before the city would experience a brief period of liberation.
Chen Feng was prepared.
In the coming days, he planned to explore nearby ruins and hone his spiritual energy, striving to reach the Silver level as soon as possible.
Improving his strength wasn't just about having two summoned beasts and fighting off monsters. Even if his spiritual energy was sufficient, unforeseen circumstances could easily cost him his life.
This city was his supply station. Compared to wandering the open wilderness alone, staying near the city would greatly increase his safety.
There was still much to prepare: enhancing his combat power, summoning new creatures, crafting a weapon for self-defense, and, if possible, taking on some missions to improve his rank within the military.
Time was of the essence.
If he wanted to venture out, explore broader territories, and gain greater power, Chen Feng needed time to accumulate resources.
---
Late at night.
Chen Feng closed his eyes, allowing his tense nerves to finally rest in the darkness. Tomorrow would be another day, bringing him one step closer to the fleeting safety he sought.
Suddenly, a roar echoed from afar, like thunder. The windows quivered, and Chen Feng quickly sat up. He glanced out the window, his pupils narrowing into slits.
What he saw was a colossal beast over four meters tall, charging forward in the distance. It had thick hind legs and two sharp forelimbs. Its body was covered in purple scales, tightly fitted together, giving it formidable defensive power.
Chen Feng's gaze hardened as he muttered, "An Earth Dragon?"
Boom!
The Earth Dragon's massive feet crushed the stone bricks beneath them. It looked furious, its eyes glowing a menacing red.
Dragonkin.
This was a dragonkin.
From its appearance to its aura, this Earth Dragon was clearly not a native creature of this planet. It had come from another dimension, a monster with the blood of dragons.
Though its draconic blood was extremely diluted—so weak that it couldn't even release dragon might—it was still a formidable creature. Adult Earth Dragons possessed Silver-level strength, and only a few leaders could break through to Gold.
Dragons.
Even the word was taboo.
Although the Earth Dragon's bloodline was thin compared to true dragons, its power was not to be underestimated. It had high defense and excellent endurance. As an all-around combatant, it was highly sought after by powerful professionals who tamed them as mounts. Riding a dragon was a status symbol, an act of sheer dominance.
But this Earth Dragon was in a rage, its emotions unstable. It seemed to be pursuing an enemy, attacking indiscriminately. In just a few minutes, it had already demolished a nearby house.
Whoosh!
A figure darted through the rubble. She was petite, her hand glowing with a soft light that resembled the shape of a long blade. In the split second that she was spotted, she swung her arm, slashing at the Earth Dragon's chest.
Squelch!
Blood spurted out as the Earth Dragon's chest was torn open, thick blood splattering onto the ground.
"Did I see that right?" Chen Feng muttered in disbelief. A weapon capable of piercing a Earth Dragon's defense? What kind of joke was this? A Earth Dragon's scales were as hard as steel. To wield a weapon that could slice through steel, the wielder would need immense strength and incredible speed.
This counterattack even caught Chen Feng off guard.
Roar!
The Earth Dragon bellowed in fury, its gaping maw releasing a thunderous roar that sent shockwaves through the air. The force of the roar acted like an air cannon, causing massive damage within a three-meter radius.
A deadly howl.
The Earth Dragon compressed its power into an air cannon, dealing fatal damage to any nearby enemies. At close range, even ordinary people would be torn to shreds.
A figure was blasted out of the dust.
"A woman?"
Chen Feng's eyes widened. The figure lying on the ground was indeed a woman.
Her long black hair was tied into a simple ponytail, and she wore a black and white martial arts uniform. The round neckline revealed a clear, beautiful collarbone. A gray miniskirt paired with leggings perfectly accentuated her long legs, and a delicate crescent moon chain dangled from her wrist.
From her appearance, she didn't seem very old.
But what caught Chen Feng's attention was the light in her right hand—a pale yellow glow in the shape of a long blade. It looked fragile, yet it had enough destructive power to cut through the Earth Dragon's defense.
"A professional..."
"A professional with a background in martial arts."
Chen Feng carefully observed his surroundings, focusing on the woman's attire and abilities. He sighed inwardly, "An awakened professional who can manifest their power into a weapon."
The abilities of professionals were diverse and bizarre. Some could manifest their power into beast claws or wings, while others could transform their power into weapons.
Weapons.
In the apocalypse, weapons were vital.
For combat-type professionals, the most important pursuit was a weapon that suited them perfectly.
Chen Feng hadn't expected that the woman who dared to confront a Earth Dragon would possess such an ability. Unlike other weapons, the blade in her hand could evolve. As her strength increased, so would the power of her weapon.
If she reached the Legendary level, she could potentially kill any enemy of the same rank in a sneak attack.
But…
She wouldn't get that chance.
Taking a Earth Dragon's air cannon at close range, she had likely lost consciousness. In the next second, she would be torn to shreds by the beast.
Rescue.
Chen Feng shook his head. The term 'hero complex' was not in his dictionary.
The Earth Dragon was not weak. Even if Chen Feng managed to defeat it, it would come at a cost.
This was a lesson.
No matter how powerful one's abilities, a single moment of carelessness could lead to death.
The Earth Dragon huffed, two streams of white mist emerging from its nostrils. The wound on its chest had sapped some of its strength. It wobbled toward the woman, a hint of human-like resentment in its eyes. The next second, it opened its mouth and lunged at her head.
It's over.
Chen Feng's interest waned. He only hoped that once the Earth Dragon finished its meal, it would leave soon.
Whoosh!
A strange sound came from the ground. When Chen Feng looked again, he saw the woman who had been lying on the ground suddenly jump up and dart to the side.
Not dead?
Chen Feng couldn't help but chuckle. The woman had played dead, deceiving the Earth Dragon and escaping when it let its guard down.
Good psychological tactics. This further confirmed Chen Feng's initial guess that the woman had received some professional training before awakening—perhaps in taekwondo, boxing, or other combat techniques.
But this had nothing to do with Chen Feng. He was just an observer, nothing more.
The woman was clearly in shock. Her movements had slowed considerably. She searched for a safe place, but the surrounding buildings were all low-rise. The Earth Dragon could easily flatten them with a single charge. She looked around desperately until she spotted a tall building. Without thinking, she ran towards it with all her might.
"Damn it!"
Chen Feng's previously lazy gaze suddenly sharpened as he cursed under his breath.
His reaction was so intense because the direction the woman was running was straight toward the nursing home where he was staying!
Heroine?!?!
Let's find out!
