Chapter 15: Xu Hongzhuang

Xu Hongzhuang was panting heavily, enduring the searing pain in her lungs as she sprinted forward with all her might. Even though the Earth Dragon was chasing her down, there was not a trace of fear on her face.

Her willpower was remarkable.

Willpower is a force of its own.

It was hard to believe that a girl who looked no more than twenty could face such a terrifying creature without flinching. This level of endurance placed her among the elite, even among professionals.

"Ten zhang of soft red, ten li of red bridal attire."1

Just from her name, it was clear that her family had placed great hopes on her. She came from a distinguished background. Though born a daughter, she had loved swordplay from a young age, and her skills with the blade had already begun to show promise.

If life had followed its intended course, she would have become a master swordswoman, married well, and lived out her days in peace.

But the apocalypse had shattered all her hopes. Her entire family of six—parents and elders—had died tragically.

When the apocalypse came, she awakened, gaining the ability to manifest her energy into a blade. Every monster she encountered was cut down without hesitation.

The sight of her family's gruesome deaths forced this nineteen-year-old girl to grow up overnight. Although she didn't fully understand what had happened, she swore to make these monsters pay for the pain and suffering they had inflicted on humanity—and on her.

But…

Maybe it was all just a dream now.

Feeling the relentless pursuit behind her, Xu Hongzhuang ran with all her remaining strength. The Earth Dragon's power had far exceeded her expectations, but even so, she refused to give up.

After witnessing her family's horrific end, she vowed to make these monsters pay. She couldn't fall here—not now, not ever!

Xu Hongzhuang's expression was resolute as she sprinted toward the tall buildings ahead. No matter what, she had to try.

The chances of survival might only be about 1%, but it was better than waiting to die!

---

Chen Feng raised his head.

He watched the figure charging toward him. It wouldn't be long before the woman reached the nursing home. If she did, the Earth Dragon would inevitably crash into it.

There was only one solution.

Chen Feng pressed his hand to the ground and whispered, "I need your help!"

A dimensional rift appeared, and a graceful figure emerged from it. The dark elf, still as alluring as ever, with long white hair and flawless skin. Her outfit, made from some unknown material—perhaps leather or animal hide—covered only a small portion of her hips, leaving the rest exposed to Chen Feng's gaze.

There was no denying it.

The dark elf was a seductive beauty. In the abyss, her allure drove countless monsters mad. In a way, she had the power to rival even a succubus.

"Kill her!"

Chen Feng's eyes darkened as he gave the order. He had to make a decision, and to avoid trouble, he had to make the hard choice.

The woman had to die!

If she entered this building, the Earth Dragon's immense strength would destroy everything. Only by eliminating her could he prevent the danger from escalating.

The dark elf raised her hand, an arrow appearing between her fingers.

Whoosh!

She didn't even need to aim. The arrow was an extension of herself. Every dark elf was a master archer, raised with a bow in hand from a young age.

Thorn branch.

The dark elf's arrows were made from a particular type of branch covered in sharp barbs. Once embedded in flesh, pulling them out would tear skin and muscle apart.

Leopard stalking its prey.

This simple habit revealed the dark elf's cruel nature.

Dark elves loved using these materials for their arrows. The sight of enemies writhing in agony brought them great pleasure.

The arrow flew through the air in a perfect arc, speeding toward the girl. It moved so fast that it created a miniature whirlwind, its trajectory driving the air around it.

One strike.

In a surprise attack like this, few could avoid a fatal blow, not even professionals.

It's over.

Chen Feng had only one goal—to survive these seven days in peace. Anyone or anything that threatened this plan, be it man, woman, or some other creature, was an enemy.

And when facing an enemy, there could be no mercy.

The Earth Dragon's only target was the woman. At this distance, if she were killed by the arrow, the chances of Chen Feng being discovered were nearly zero.

Injured and fleeing for her life, the woman had no reason to survive this fatal strike. Chen Feng felt a wave of relief.

Clang!

A sharp crash echoed as the arrow was sliced in two and fell to the ground.

How is this possible?

Chen Feng's face registered shock.

Xu Hongzhuang was disheveled and surprised. She hadn't even realized what had happened, but the numbness in her arm and the broken arrow on the ground told her this wasn't a dream.

Besides the Earth Dragon, someone else was trying to kill her?

But regardless, she had survived once more. Xu Hongzhuang gritted her teeth and used the last of her strength to sprint forward. Her agile speed brought her within a step of the door.

Something isn't right.

Chen Feng frowned, his mind racing. Once might be luck, twice could be good fortune, but to survive death repeatedly like this—it stirred something within him.

In just a few minutes, the woman had not only survived the Earth Dragon's roar but had also instinctively blocked the dark elf's arrow, despite being mentally and physically exhausted.

When she blocked the arrow, she had been surprised herself. It was an action based purely on instinct, not sight—a subconscious response.

She possessed at least two specializations.

Immense Endurance and Unearthly Agility.

There were many injustices in this world. There were mediocre people, and then there were geniuses favored by the heavens. Some gifted professionals were blessed with enviable specializations from the moment they awakened.

Some were innately sensitive to spiritual energy, absorbing energy from the air at twice the rate of ordinary people.

Others had an affinity for monsters, so even the most ferocious beasts wouldn't attack them.

And some had enhanced bodies, like the woman in front of him. Surviving the Earth Dragon's roar at close range without fainting was a clear sign of her endurance, and blocking an arrow with pure instinct was a hallmark of unearthly agility.

Out of envy, helplessness, or perhaps sour jealousy, these people were given an interesting title.

They were called...

Hero Templates.

  1. This phrase is often used to describe a grand and lavish wedding scene.
"丈" (zhang) being a unit of length (about 3.3 meters)
"里" (li) representing a traditional Chinese mile (approximately 500 meters).

"红妆" (red bridal attire) refers to the traditional red garments worn by a bride.
