Chapter 27: Chapter 27: Defeating Treecko

Next, Lian prepared to enhance his Special Attack Ability. Currently at 260 points and with over three hundred Combat Points available, he could only increase his special attack by five points.

Well, five points will have to do.

Lian felt somewhat helpless; the system was truly relentless. However, it wasn't entirely its fault - the system had already been impressive, considering it allowed him to break through base stat limitations, likely permanently enhancing his abilities.

Finally, his Combat Points decreased to 12, while his Special Attack Ability increased to 265 points. Although not a significant leap, he anticipated reaching above 280 points for Special Attack during the next level-up.

His current level is still too low, how frustrating!

Lian's thoughts were filled with mixed emotions.

Although limited to one combat rating per day, his level could still improve through multiple battles. In essence, Lian already had a clear path towards becoming stronger. Once his level increases, given his current base stats, defeating Treecko should be effortless.

Perhaps from now on, I should add an extra battle each day?

There seems to be no downside, as long as my output remains high. No matter how many Pokemon I encounter, I can instantly defeat them without getting exhausted.

Yes, that sounds like a great plan!

Determined, Lian decided from tomorrow onwards, he would add an extra battle daily to accelerate his growth. Otherwise, it would be a significant waste if accumulated Combat Points could not effectively enhance his base stats due to insufficient Level progression.

Without lingering further, Lian exited the system space in the next moment, returning to his dream-filled sleep.

The following day, Lian was woken up quite early, but surprisingly, it wasn't by Kalia; instead, Treecko roused him.

Treecko's intentions were clear: while the sun had yet to rise and Kalia remained asleep, they should have a battle at the training arena within their room. It was evident that Treecko felt highly confident and eager to defeat Lian, proving himself.

Having his peaceful slumber disrupted already put Lian in a foul mood. Since Treecko was so impatient for a battle, Lian naturally obliged.

Although still slower than Treecko, with 300 speed compared to its 260+, the difference wasn't substantial. Moreover, Lian possessed Ember, which can be utilized at mid-to-long range distances.

Additionally, as a Grass-type, Treecko is minimally affected by Mega Drain, significantly reducing its chances of victory against Lian.

Entering the battlefield, Lian observed Treecko and pondered if one Ember blast could defeat it. However, he felt uncertain due to Treecko's three-level advantage.

Overcoming such a gap was not easy, despite his high Special Attack Attribute. Unfortunately, Lian only knew Ember; with a more powerful Fire-type move, he would undoubtedly take down Treecko instantly.

As he contemplated, Treecko wasted no time and charged first. These Pokemon were naturally combative, feeling restless without daily battles.

Lian focused on Treecko, waiting for the right moment to unleash Ember. The relatively small size of this battlefield worked in his favor, as even if Treecko tried to evade, it couldn't escape the range of Ember's reach.

Moreover, with Lian's speed, even if he waited for Treecko's initial attack before responding, there wouldn't be any issue.

Although Treecko had a high special attack, its only Grass-type special move was Mega Drain, which posed minimal threat to him.

And considering Quick Attack, given Treecko's modest attack value of just over 100, it couldn't swiftly defeat him.

The Treecko rapidly approached Lian. Despite lacking Kalia's commands, its inherent combat experience was substantial, and it instinctively knew not to use Mega Drain against him.

In the next moment, Treecko closed the distance, readying for an attack. Instead of Quick Attack, it opted for Pound.

For Treeckos, using their tail to defeat opponents is seen as a testament to their strength, bringing them immense joy and excitement.

Treecko leaped high, its large tail shimmering with a faint glow, aiming directly at Lian.

He could dodge this!

Although Treecko was swift, its mastery over Pound was clearly lacking. Kalia usually focused on training Quick Attack.

Lian showcased his increased speed from the previous night. Although he wasn't fully accustomed to this sudden boost, it proved just enough to evade Treecko's Pound maneuver.

As Treecko's tail descended, Lian swiftly moved out of harm's way. Before, even if he had reacted, he wouldn't have been able to avoid it.

Having successfully dodged, Lian wasted no time, opening his mouth wide and unleashing a burst of sparks.

A burst of scorching flames headed straight for Treecko. If Treecko's Mega Drain proficiency was ten thousand, Lian's Ember proficiency stood at thirty thousand.

Kalia had instructed Lian to practice Ember daily, and although he often slacked off, there were times when he diligently trained.

As a result, his mastery over Ember was significantly high. In this situation, it was virtually impossible for Treecko to evade the attack.

Caught off guard by Lian evading its strike, Treecko momentarily froze. By the time it reacted, it could only watch helplessly as Ember approached.

The Ember made intimate contact with Treecko, dispersing into countless sparks that scattered across its body.

Treecko's once-pink belly now bore charred patches from Ember's burns. A pained expression emerged on its face, marked by numerous black spots where the sparks had scorched its skin.

With great effort, Treecko rose to its feet, determination burning in its eyes, indicating it still possessed some fighting capability.

Hmm?

Lian suddenly noticed Treecko's tail swelling larger, while its body turned increasingly vibrant green, and some of its wounds seemed to diminish.

Lian recalled that this was Treecko's Overgrow Ability, similar to his own Blaze ability. When its stamina drops below a certain threshold, it activates latent potential, enhancing the power of its moves.

However, unfortunately for Treecko, the Overgrow Ability boosts Grass-type moves. Even if their strength increases, it still wouldn't cause significant damage to Lian.

Moreover, Treecko is already nearing exhaustion. Just one more Ember from Lian would likely finish it off.

After entering the Overgrow state, Treecko regained some composure and swiftly increased the distance between them, relying on its speed.

Now fearing Lian's Ember attacks, Treecko hesitated to engage directly and instead focused on evasive maneuvers.

Lian, however, wouldn't let it slip away. Although not as fast as Treecko, with such a small battlefield, he could cover the entire area within seconds. Regardless of how much Treecko tried to evade, they remained close proximity.

Seizing an opportunity, Lian spat out another Ember. Unfortunately, Treecko seemed more vigilant this time and managed to dodge.

Lian remained unfazed; it was Treecko that should be anxious. Whenever Treecko attempted a move, Lian had a chance to strike back. Moreover, the cooldown period for his Ember attack was very short. Even if he missed, it would only take a few seconds before he could unleash another Ember.

Even if relying on luck, with so many Embers, just one successful hit would mean defeat for Treecko. It underestimated its opponent by thinking speed alone could outmaneuver Lian's strategy.

As time passed and the sun gradually rose higher,

Kalia woke up from her slumber, suddenly hearing sounds of battle nearby, which puzzled her.

Rubbing her eyes, Kalia spotted Treecko and Charmander engaged in a fierce combat at a distance.

Why have they started fighting?

She hastily got up, skipping her morning routine, and shouted to intervene, "Treecko, Charmander, what are you doing? Stop this fight!"

Upon hearing Kalia's voice, Lian did not pause but continued unleashing Ember. However, Treecko hesitated momentarily due to Kalia's call.

In that brief instant, Treecko lost its chance to dodge, allowing another Ember to strike it.

The impact severely wounded Treecko, causing it to lose consciousness as it collapsed, unable to continue battling.

Lian looked contentedly at the defeated Treecko. He couldn't be blamed for external factors influencing the battle; he himself remained unaffected by Kalia's intervention. It simply highlighted Treecko's lack of experience.
